[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a blunt spearhead

A fit Bhuvneshwar is a top bowler in all formats. So much ability and intelligence. A proper team man as well.

It is not surprising to see him last for 9 years and counting. I remember the days when was compared to Junaid Khan and our fans thought he was nowhere in comparison, but today Junaid has completely lost his way and disappeared into oblivion.

He will never play for Pakistan again but Bhuvneshwar has plenty left in the tank.

One of the most intelligent bowlers in the world. His IQ must be very high.

Great skill with the new ball as well. A fit Bhuvneshwar is always an asset for India and his absence in England in 2018 was a major reason why India lost 4-1.

Yup, Bhuvi is 31 and can play International cricket for another 3-4 years and IPL for 5-6 years, he will Retire with a good career record and 200 crore INR or 425 crore PKR in the bank.

Excellent bowler.

His stats in the ODI series against England:

29-0-135-6

Economy-rate of just 4.65

The bowler who Kohli could rely on.

He is so good with the new ball and really smart at the end of the innings. England didn’t have an answer for him.

Best LOI bowler in India right now. Bumrah has been mediocre for almost couple of years now.

Yeah bhuvi can swing the ball both ways, can bowl off cutter, leg cutter, knuckle ball, yorker. Most complete bowler. If everything comes out nicely he is way better than bumrah.

If anyone thinks bowling is complicated, you just need to look at this guy.

Standard run up, just bowls wicket to wicket, on a difficult length and moves the ball a bit both ways.

Job done.

With that easy runup and clean simple, less stress action yet he get so many injuries. Strange

I wonder if he can make a comeback to the test side.

The last time he played a fc match was Indias last test in south Africa 3 years ago.

If he remains fit, he could be one of our biggest assets for tests in England.

He was told to increase his speed, which he did. He not only lost his swing but also got so many injuries. Now he is back to bowling a bit slower

Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Saturday took to Twitter to rubbish reports that claimed he didn't want to play Test cricket anymore. Bhuvneshwar wasn't picked in India's Test squad for the upcoming England tour that left many shell-shocked and caused a huge wave on social media.

The fast bowler, in his post, said that "irrespective of the team selection", he has always prepared himself to represent the nation in all three formats and will continue to do the same in the future as well. Bhuvneshwar ended his tweet with a "suggestion": "Please don't write your assumptions based on “sources”!"

"There have been articles about me not wanting to play Test cricket. Just to clarify, I have always prepared myself for all three formats irrespective of the team selection and will continue to do the same. Suggestion - please don't write your assumptions based on “sources”!" Bhuvneshwar tweeted.

Bhunvneshwar, who has played 21 Tests for India, last appeared in the longest format way back in 2018 against South Africa in January 2018. The seamer suffered multiple injuries in the last couple of years and missed some important Test series both at home and away.

Bhuvneshwar has picked up 63 wickets in just 37 innings and boasts an impressive average of 26.90. He also has four five-wicket hauls in the red-ball format.

He last featured in the now postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 for the SunRisers Hyderabad and picked up three wickets from five outings.

Should just focus on white ball cricket. Is only good in tests when conditions are extremely bowler friendly.

He should stay away from courting media attention and focus more on his cricket.

India fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been under the scanner for his performances against South Africa in the first two ODIs of the three-match series, which India lost by 0-3. The veteran pacer has been pretty disappointing, leaking runs heavily. He also failed to pick up a single wicket in the series. He was eventually dropped from India's playing XI for the third and final game at the Newlands in Cape Town. Citing Bhuvneshwar's poor fine, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has asked the managed to look at Deepak Chahar as a replacement for the 31-year-old in white-ball cricket, adding that the 29-year-old can also make a difference with the bat down the order.

"I think it's time to look at Deepak Chahar now. He is pretty much the same bowler, can swing the ball both ways, and bats handily down the order," Gavaskar said during a discussion Sports Today.

Incidentally it was Chahar who replaced Bhuvneshwar in the third ODI and nearly took India home with his superlative batting effort. Chahar also picked up a couple of wickets with the new ball.

Despite suggesting that Bhuvneshwar has been a "tremendous servant" of the Indian cricket team, Gavaskar suggested that it's time to look at someone else since for the longer run the veteran cricketer is struggling to find his rhythm.

"Bhuvi has been a tremendous servant of Indian cricket. But, in the last year or so, even in franchise cricket, he has been expensive. He used to bowl those brilliant yorkers and slower deliveries, but those are not working anymore as the opposition is studying you all the time and they will know how to be prepared for it. So maybe it is time to look at somebody else," he added.

India's South Africa tour ended on a disappointing note as the visitors lost the final match by four runs despite needing just 10 in the last three overs with three wickets in hand. Chahar, who played a brilliant knock of 54 off just 34 balls, was out in the first ball of the 48th over. India's last two wickets added just five more runs as South Africa took the series 3-0.

India had also lost the Test series 1-2.

When he first came to the scene, he was quite good.

It seems like he has declined massively. Age is catching up perhaps.

Yes plenty left in the tank.
What intelligent bowling, unfortunately he hasn't played the test series this time around.

For those that were saying Bhuvneshwar Kumar was better than Amir and Junaid Khan.

STATS IN ODI’s.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Ave - 35 + SR - 41

Junaid Khan: Ave - 29 + SR - 32

Mohammad Amir: Ave - 29 + SR - 37

Look at those stats, and tell me how anyone can come up with the opinion that Bhuvi is better than Amir and Junaid.

Wow, you are a huge fan of his. I would be interested to see how many T20 leagues worldwide are dying to sign up this high IQ bowler.

I think he was mishandled. When he broke through in the aaneh doh series he was swinging the ball alot. Indian coaches/management should've invested in him alot more in tests kinda like they did for ishant. Instead he became a IPL legend tranforming in to economical bowler limited to just t20s. It's a shame for Indians he couldve been great on English and especially south African pitches. Reminds me of kinda like Irfan Pathan how he started off and then ended up being a bits and pieces cricketer.

Aane do series was played with older power play rules And single new ball which swung for some time
When two new balls introduced ball makers removed few layers of lauquers. As a result white ball stopped swinging after 2 Or 3 overs.when bhuvi tried to pitch up with this new ball he got clobbed. Swing bowlers with Pace such as starc even boult can get away. Bhuvi started to bowl back of length which was hard to hit but he lost his wicket taking ability with the white ball.

Aane do series was played with older power play rules And single new ball which swung for some time

This is not totally accurate, the two white balls rule was introduced by the ICC in October 2011, so all ODIs since then have been played with two new balls.

The bit about the lacquer being removed is correct, but can't remember if those tweaks were made after 2012.

3/10 in 3 overs for Bhuvi in the 2nd T20I - pretty much destroyed SA batting!

Bhuvi on receiving the award said, “When you get Man of the Series, it’s always a proud moment, and as a bowler in T20, it’s even better. I’m always focused on getting back stronger, whether it’s my bowling or my fitness. I’m playing for years now, my role has always been the same. Bowl two in the powerplay, bowl two at the end.

These things are always the same, but as a senior, I always think about helping the youngsters. I’ve been lucky that the captain has given me the full hand and said do what you want. In that regard, I’ve been blessed.”

Not sure how he is gonna do in Aus but at the moment, he has sealed his place.

Payer of the series award? What did Bhuvi pay to get this award lol? :inti

I wish he had improved his power hitting, thats the only way to take his bowling in Aus , damn!

Gee whiz - Player of the series awards are handed out like candy nowadays.

Am sure this guy knows someone pretty high up in the BCCI to be selected year after year of continous mediocrity, super jugaadu and now he gets this award. He'd struggle to make the A teams of the top 8 white ball playing nations.

To get wickets, you need at least 3 and minimum 2 of the below :
-Pace
- Bounce
- Swing
-movement off the seam.

At least 3 and minimum of 2mentioned above in high quantities.

this dude has nothing. Can't see him tick even one of the above boxes. Its all good when he's bowling on a spicy green mamba or a two paced uneven wicket
It all turns to custard when he is on true bouncy wicket when the ball is coming on nicely and theres no swing, seam and he will never have pace, and these are the wickets we gonna get in Asia cup T20 and in Aus during the WC.

He's toast on ice. epic phainty gone viral.

And yet come every tournament, BCCI picks him year after year blocking the progress of some young deserving guy.
& the icing onthe cake - horror of horrors - he is our VC for the tour of Ireland. The VC is given to a young guy, an incumbent in the waiting to take on the bigger honors. For getting this post, the young dude shoud have shown some flashes of brilliance, some captaincy insight, nous, instinct, leadership ability.
This dude is not the captain of an IPL side , ranji or regional side, i doubt if he even captained his mates in their backyard plays. Cant see any flash of originality in his captaincy, yet the cementheads at BCCI give him the VC. I'd like some of whatever they smoke in the BCCI!
his story is the typical indian govermental buerecrat babu who gets promoted by just sitting on his backside for a particular length of time, no weigtage to inherent talents etc.
What a waste!!

India gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series against England after the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated the hosts by 49 runs in the second T20I at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the star of the show as he returned with three wickets and two of those came in the powerplay. Defending 170, India got off to the best start possible as Bhuvneshwar returned with wickets of Jason Roy and Jos Buttler in the powerplay.

After the game, Bhuvneshwar Kumar spoke to reporters during a post-match press conference and he talked about how the ball is swinging for him in the UK, his mindset, and whether he looks forward to playing Test cricket for India.

"Honestly, I do not know. I have been to England many times and it did not swing in the past few series so yes, even I was a bit surprised that the ball was swinging and it is swinging for a long period of time, especially in T20 cricket and there is a bit more bounce in the wicket as well. When the ball swings, you enjoy it more. Honestly, I do not know whether I am swinging it, it is the condition or it is the ball. If the ball is swinging, that is my strength so I look for attacking options then. In both these matches, the ball swung and I attacked and hence I got the wickets," said Bhuvneshwar.

"When you go to any series, you always imagine that you will win. We are not surprised that we are 2-0 up, we did all the hard work, and even they could have been 2-0 up, but we are at this stage and all credit goes to the team. It is a team thing, players and combinations can change, as an individual, I am happy with the way I am bowling, Hardik is coming back again, and we are happy that we are contributing to the team's wins. If we win the series 3-0 in the UK, it would be a very good feeling," he added.

Bhuvneshwar's career has been hampered by injuries and when he was asked whether he thought that his career might end because of those injuries, Bhuvneshwar said that he never looked at things that way.

"I never thought that it was it for me. When you are out of the game, you are never confident and you can feel disappointed or frustrated. You want to come back and you want to play for the country again. Honestly, I am not thinking about anything at this moment, whatever opportunities I am getting, I am trying to do well in that so if I'll get any opportunities in the red-ball format, I would not say no. I'll try to do well there but I am not thinking whether I'll get the opportunity or not," said Bhuvneshwar.

Talking about India's score in the second T20, Bhuvneshwar said: "In T20, maybe it was a less score, but the totals like 170-175 are always tricky, the opponent does not know at what pace to go about their things. If they get a good start, it is good for them and if we as a bowling unit get a good start, we can create pressure on them. When we go about to bowl, it is always about taking wickets in powerplay so that the pressure can be created."

70 T20I wickets in 67 innings.

Economy rate of 6.92, which is absolutely brilliant.

English condition is suitable for his bowling style. He should have played a lot more tests in England. But he is highly injury-prone.

He is a good Test bowler especially in English conditions. He would have been an asset in the one off Test. India should have played him if he was fit. He also gives India depth in batting. His LOI bowling is underrated, he does not pick up too many wickets but does not give away runs. In favorable conditions he will pick up wickets with the new ball almost every time. A skill which other Indian pacers lack in white ball formats.

4-26! What a performance today in a pressure match. Set the tone by getting Babar

Not blunt, very sharp today

4 for 26.

Superb and thoughtful bowling from a fantastic bowler.

Whenever OP backs a player, that player ends up fumbling the bag soon after.

Whenever he berates a player, he almost always gets proven wrong.

It’s the Bilal7 Principle.

He is very pitch and conditions dependent bowler.

In T20's he does not get thrashed around that much on any type of pitch which is why his economy rate is under 7. He bowls with the new ball and at the death and does not go for too many.

blunt in ODIs, yes.
does a decent job in T20s. especially if it swings upfront.
would've been good to watch him bowl in the tests in NZ, ENG and SA bit more. shame, that ship has sailed.

He's good in the right conditions but he will be a liability on flat tracks in every format.

It was Hardik Pandya who came up with an unbeaten 33-run knock of just 17 balls to help India seal a tight contest against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in the Group A clash of the ongoing Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium. After having bundled out Pakistan for 147, Rohit Sharma-led Team India were in a spot of bother, but Hardik along with Ravindra Jadeja (35) ensured that the team does not slip up and goes over the line. After the win, Bhuvneshwar Kumar spoke about the win and how the match could have gone either way.

"After the 10 overs of our innings, it was a tight match. In those situations, the game can go either way. But the way Hardik and Jadeja batted, they played very well. But honestly, the match was 50-50. Till the time Hardik scored runs, the match was 50-50. We were praying that Hardik scores runs. I can just pray that Hardik continues with his performances and he stays in this form in the World Cup as well," said Bhuvneshwar during the post-match press conference.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had returned with figures of 4-26 in his four overs as India bundled out Pakistan for 147. The experienced seamer also got the key breakthrough of Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the third over of the innings.

"I am very happy with the performance, not just with the wickets. Yes, when you get wickets, you feel happy to contribute but sometimes bowling economically is also a contribution to the team's cause. The way the others bowled as well, I think it was a complete team performance," said Bhuvneshwar.

"Once Babar was dismissed, we did not think that half of the Pakistan team has been dismissed. He is a good player but technically there were 9 other batters still left. As a team, we do not think that if the best batter is out, then half of the team is dismissed. But yes, once he was out, we knew their plans will be disturbed as the batter who plays the role of the anchor was gone," he added.

Further talking about the pitch and the defeat India suffered against Pakistan last year, the pacer said: "Bowling first was the good option. The wicket had some grass and it was patchy so it was not suitable for the batters. So that is why we decided to bowl first."

"We had forgotten about the match against Pakistan that we lost last year. Honestly, as a cricketer we do not think about the result, I know people can have their expectations. We lose against other teams as well, but we do not talk about them that match as compared to when we lose against Pakistan. We just leave everything behind and keep moving ahead," he added.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4-1-4-5 is the most economical 4-over spell by an Indian bowler in T20Is.

It's also the 3rd best figures in T20Is by an Indian bowler, behind 6-7 by Chahar versus Bangladesh in 2019 and 6-25 by Chahal versus England in 2017

Few better sights in than BK swinging the ball. He is like a mini version of Anderson. One of the best swing bowlers in the world and criminally underrated.

He is still great option with new ball.

Today's spell gives him edge over his closest competitor Deepak chahar for wt20 selection.

BK should bowl his 4 overs upfront. He is conceding a lot of runs at the death. He is unable to bowl yorkers or slower wide yorkers. But he is pretty good with the new ball.

Let's just hope India don't have to turn to him in the death overs. Otherwise he will likely go back into coward mode and try to bowl to wide slow balls that on most occasions turn out to be wides. Probably because he does not have the capability or skill or pace to be effective in any other way.

He bowled well and was lucky that the ball was swinging today.Normally the ball stops swinging after two overs in UAE.Sfghans we’re not mentally prepared for this game after losing to Pakistan.

Agreed, definitely one of the best swing bowlers remaining in world cricket. Should be playing all formats for India. But not bowling at the death if they can avoid it.

This 5fer was a special gift by the Afghanistan team.

B Kumar is a slow swing bowler with the new ball and a pathetic death bowler. Any top class batsman should deal with him quite easily.

Performs in a meaningless game against a minnow. In games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, games that matter, he didn’t perform. His 19th over in matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka went for 19 and 14 runs, which ultimately cost India both matches. Extremely overrated bowler.

Anyone can bowl well in a dead rubber against Afghanistan. Bouvier is too short and too slow to have any affect on a non-associate cricket nation!
