[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Rohit 'the Hitman' Sharma - Discussion Thread

Last world cup for Rohit and should be dropped from the team immediately after the WC. He is 36 and he has not been the same player for a while now.

These days whatever he scores at the top is just a bonus for the team. Nobody expects much from this guy. He is simply blocking the space that Jaiswal should have been in all formats.

The main challenge with Rohit is that he often appears vulnerable during the first few deliveries he faces.

However, once he settles in, his extensive repertoire of shots becomes unstoppable making him a formidable force.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a 50-run opening stand. Excellent batting by Rohit sharma and gill, putting a solid foundation for the batters to come.

He is at the stage of his career where he will have a massive knock surrounded by poor ones. The consistency deserts at this stage usually. Even during Kohli's slump, he was still scoring fifties but was unable to make them biggies. Warner is the similar stage but is in poorer touch that Rohit.

It happened in the second ball of the second innings of the match after Bangladesh set India a target of 266 runs. Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib went slightly widish and fuller to Rohit, who looked to carve it over cover for a boundary, but failed to get the necessary elevation as the fielder grabbed it comfortably, hence sending back Rohit for a two-ball duck.

This was Rohit's first ever dismissal for duck since July 14 of 2022, in the Lord's ODI against England. This is also the first time Rohit incurred such a dismissal since becoming the full-time ODI captain last year. Overall, it is his 15th dismissal for duck in his ODI career, putting him at par with Kohli in the sixth spot with Sachin leading the chart with 20 such dismissals. Only two of these have come as an ODI captain, equalling Virender Sehwag, and standing one behind Kohli (3) while Sourav Ganguly leads the chart with nine such dismissals.

During India’s match against Australia in Chennai, David Warner reached the milestone in 19 innings to break the previous record, held jointly by Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers, who got to the milestone in 20 innings.

India captain Rohit Sharma then equalled Warner’s feat in the second match against Afghanistan in Delhi.

Fastest to 1000 runs in ODI World Cup (innings)

20 - Sachin Tendulkar
20 - A B de Villiers
21 - Viv Richards

Whoever bat first in their match should be able to get past this landmark first. India and Australia will meet in their first match of the upcoming World Cup on 8th October.

With a few exceptions openers are likely to dominate world cup matches. PUnter needed 26 matches to get there.

But this stat hides more than it tells you. 2019 world cup handsdown the most batter friendly world cup in world cup history.

Looks like Warner managed to eek it out at the tender age of 36. What a big occasion player he is, those WC stats are something to admire

Rohit and Warner will be in race for the Fastest to 1000 runs in ICC World Cup history.

Who will win this race?
Impressive to see 3 Indian's potentially in that list.
Shows how much they step up their game in big tournaments,

How is 36 old? As long as your fit a cricket is fine even till 40 like Sachin was, same with Dhoni, Dhoni was aking even at 36 lol.

Officially the greatest six hitter of all time.

And unlike modern big hitters like Bairstow and Roy , he's the most watchable too. Beautiful ball striking .

Hats off to the real Hitman of cricket.

Fastest hundreds for India at the men's ODI World Cup:

63 - Rohit Sharma vs AFG, 2023
81 - Virender Sehwag vs BER, 2007
83 - Virat Kohli vs BAN, 2011
84 - Shikhar Dhawan vs IRE, 2015
84 - Sachin Tendulkar vs KEN, 1999

7 centuries in 19’knocks is quite phenomenal.
actually that would be 7 centuries in last what 11 knocks?

I’m so happy for Rohit bhai.

Let’s give him his flowers for being an ATG in there ball cricket.

What a player. Very confident that he will be a World Cup winning captain in 5 weeks time. An all-time great of the game.

Ahead of the India-Bangladesh clash in the 2023 World Cup on Thursday (October 19) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, it has emerged that Indian captain Rohit Sharma was given multiple traffic challans for overspeeding on the scenic Mumbai-Pune expressway, according to a report by the Pune Mirror.

The newspaper claimed that Rohit was given three challans as he crossed the speed limit of more than 200 km/h and even hit a speed limit of 215 km/h.

The same report claims that the incident is said to have happened when Rohit was joining the team in Pune for the big match.

he should be shown Pant's accident pictures. irrespecitve of how good the roads have become; it is never a good idea to go at that speed on Indian highways.

India captain Rohit Sharma has been handed multiple fines by the Pune traffic police for over speeding on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, according to reports from the Pune Mirror. This comes just a day before India's clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

According to reports from the Pune Mirror, Rohit was handed three traffic tickets for exceeding speed limits on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, reported officials from the traffic department. Sharma was en route to Pune to reconnect with his team ahead of their ongoing World Cup match at the MCA Stadium.

Rohit was driving at staggering speeds, breaching the 200 kmph limit, and even reaching up to 215 kmph at certain times. In the wake of this incident, his vehicle was reprimanded with three online traffic challans.

Interestingly, the car that Rohit was driving, a Lamborghini Urus, displays a number plate featuring his highest score in one-day cricket, 264.

3 speed challans and that too over a distance of just 100-odd KMs! Poor from Rohit. He should be careful.

Oh bhai.
Please don’t do that, you are too precious.

The speed cameras actually record your speed quite lower than what you're doing.

Mumai-Pune expressway doesn't feel safe while speeding unlike others for some reason. I'm talking of my experience from 7-8 years back, maybe things have changed. But it's noisy and you never feel in control compared to other tarmac.

He is just hustling. This will make for nice real life scenes for his biopic.

Maximum i have driven is 180 kph at the NH152-D when it was newly opened and didn’t have much traffic and speed cameras. Speeding however is nothing to boast about. You have to drive safe not just for your own safety but for those who depend on you and of course those that are driving in the road (and their dependents).

I must say Bharatiya expressways are getting better and better only and more studs with high end gaddiyan will be taking their babies on the road on full throttle.

You are actually going slower than what the speedometer on the car shows, that's by design brother.
Speedometers are designed to overestimate speed by around 10%

Had heard this and forgot about it lol. It's become more significant last decade in India with speed limits actually being enforced at least on some accident-prone flyovers and highway stretches.

not really, at least not the cars here in US. have seen multiple roadside speed sensors showing exactly same that is shown on my speedometer. difference is at most 1 or 2 miles per hour which can be attributed to when we are seeing the display and other cars which might affect it. Have had multiple GPS based speedometer apps show exactly same as those on my truck's speedometer. Have had few friends who got speeding tickets and the police speed guns showed same as what those guys were driving. So unless everything is showing 10% higher then it is not true.

He is surely playing like a HITMAN in this World Cup. Today he was also looking very good before he got out on 48 off 40 balls. With this kind of form he might finish the tournament with nearly a thousand runs.

He coudl have easily scored 3 back to back 100s. But he was somewhat unselfish assuming the role of enforcer.

So true
I think he also knows he’s in some unreal form and is pretty much unstoppable if he can literally get through the opening swing bowling spell like few overs then only he can get himself out

Virender sehwag is known as the greatest and finest opener in indian cricket history

When I compared the records
I realised rohit sharma as opener is far better than sehwag
His record in T20 n Odi is far superior than viru record while in test sehwag average is just slightly higher
I would choose rohit over sehwag as an opener

What your thoughts about it???
Who is a better opener across all formats among these 2 great batsmen??

When it comes to chasing a target in the ICC World Cup matches, No other batter has scored more runs than your very own Rohit Sharma. Some Fantastic numbers for him. 13 innings and 771 runs with 70 plus average is not a joke.

Great numbers for Ranatunga actually.
A very forgotten or less talked about leader in this era but back then he was the ultimate captain

No, he is not. Sunny truimps him in Test cricket, Sachin and Rohit truimp him in ODI cricket. However, Tests + ODI's = Sehwag.

He also tops the list of successful run chase. Terrific strike rate too. No messing around

Ricky Ponting striking at 69 is a surprise
Ricky has a massive starting problem unless it is an absolute road. He works his way into the innings. He happened to be part of a great ODI side where Gilly and Haydos took care of bullying mostly. HE just had to steady the ship. Kane is another safe tuk tuker. Never an enforcer. Small totals he handles with care. Rohit could have scored atleast 2 centuries in this world cup even with a strike rate of 90. But his new bold approach means he will lose some statpadding which he doesn't care about.

Looks like haters need to come up with new filters and criteria for Rohit.

Something like

"Can he perform in a World cup KO which falls on a full moon day and happens to be a Wednesday where the opposition team do not have players starting with the letter 'S' "

200 Kmph? No, The Speeds Rohit Sharma Has Been Fined For Are
Rohit Sharma was caught overspeeding while driving from Mumbai to Pune ahead of India's Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh.

India captain Rohit Sharma found himself making the headlines for the wrong reason on Wednesday as reports emerged of him being fined for overspeeding twice on the Pune-Mumbai highway. Rohit was driving to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune from Mumbai ahead of the Indian team's Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. Police confirmed that Rohit was caught driving at speeds of 105kph and 117 kph on the highway while the speed limit is 100 kph. Rohit was handed a fine of INR 4,000 in total (2,000 each on both occasions). He paid the fine on Thursday.

"These speeding violations occurred on October 17 and as per rule action was taken. The fines were promptly paid," Lata Phad, superintendent of highway police confirmed the news.

Reports claimed that Rohit was driving at the speed of over 200 kph but that isn't the truth. Th maximum speed the India captain touched, as per the official report, on that highway was actually 117kph. His luxury car was captured by auto cameras installed on both lanes of the expressway. The car was captured exceeding the permissible speed limit on two separate occasions.

According to police, there are automated cameras installed on both lanes of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to monitor vehicle speeds. If a vehicle violates the speed limit and the camera records it, the system issues traffic challans with the imposed fee to the car's owner.

A police officer from the Highway Police stationed at Vadgaon provided further details officially, the first violation was recorded near the Kamshet tunnel as the car travelled from Mumbai to Pune, and the violation was observed at 117 kmph.

According to police, the second violation took place near Somatane Phata as the car was travelling from Pune to Mumbai on the same day at 111 kmph.

Rohit Sharma is copying Sehwag very successfully like he did in 2011, read somewhere India had 3 day workshop understanding and analyzing the 2011 victory template

Haven’t been following LOI cricket for the last few years, only turning up for the WCs.

Till the last WC, Rohit was a slow starter. Since when has he become so aggressive. Since taking over captaincy?

I love the way, he counter attacks the bowlers. Every time the bowler beats him,you are guaranteed next ball he tries to send it into orbit. Exciting stuff.

He has been talking about this for 2 years. Finally he is employing it.

One of the most clever captains in the ongoing World Cup, his strategy is straightforward: "Attack the strike bowlers so that they are taken off before completing the Power-play," effectively putting the opponents under pressure.

He has the liberty to employ this tactic, knowing that Gill, Kohli, KR, and Pandya are still available to bat.

Here's a thought. WC records are super inflated and super overrated. Why? Too many matches against minnows and teams with average or below average attacks.

Kenya, BD, Netherlands, Ireland, etc etc.

It's the KO record that matters.

Rohit Sharma's batting in this WC reminds me of what Sanath Jayasuriya did in 1996. Don't take too much time to settle. Utilise the powerplay field restrictions. Smash anything too short or too full. Score at least at 7 RPO. Set the platform. Get out and leave the rest to the middle order. This approach worked wonders for Srilanka back then and so far it's been good for India too.

By taking this approach, Rohit does two things.
1. He demoralises the opposition in the first 10 overs itself, breaking their psyche, forcing them to make more mistakes which can be capitalised by the other batsmen.
2. Even if he gets out early, the other batsmen won't panic. They can afford to take time because of the platform he had set. The middle order will eventually get used to Rohit not being out there and will take up responsibility. Therefore reducing chances of batting collapses in knock out games.

All Rohit needs to do now is repeat this against the big boys in New Zealand, South Africa and England and we're done.

Hayden and gilly as good as they were, they would not survive vs India's current attack. It is relentless. If india can get that kid tyagi in as well it would be brutal.

Warner is Australia’s best ever limited overs opener. He has surpassed Mark Waugh, Gilchrist and Hayden.

Simply phenomenal in the shorter formats but massively overhyped in Test cricket. He has been awful outside Australia and South Africa.

18000 international runs for the Hitman Rohit Sharma. What a player this guys has transformed into.

Another day, another fifty for Rohit "the Hitman" Sharma against England. Excellent knock under pressure when his team was struggling as 3 wickets fell down cheaply. This is the 54th fifty-plus score for him.

Yesterday Rohit played a memorable knock of his career…. Pitch was difficult to bat and 3 early wkts were down, but Hitman played incredible inning with a strike rate of 90….

Gautam Gambhir about Rohit Sharma:

"Leader - the thing he wants from the team, he does it himself. If you expect positive batting from your teammates, you have to do it yourself. This act - leading from the front - you have to do it yourself. No kind of PR or marketing agency can do it for you,"

"Rohit Sharma has done that. Maybe in terms of run tally, he is at the No. 10 or No. 5 slot. It does not matter. But your aim is winning the trophy on November 19. You have to decide whether your aim is to hit 100 or win the World Cup. If your aim is to hit a ton, then you play that way. But if the aim is to win the World Cup, then a selfless captain, like the way Rohit Sharma has batted, I expect him to do that more."

Sharma has now DOMINATED two world cups in a row. Warner also.

Only Tendulkar has dominated 3.
