Most 100s, highest average and 5th highest SR in WC. Also 3 double tons (and highest ODI individual score). Rohit is a legit GOAT contender in ODIs now.

It’s crazy but the GOAT Top 5 ODI batsmen would probably feature at least 3 or 4 Indians

Tendulkar
Kohli
Richards
Sharma
Dhoni

I would swap Ponting and ABD over Dhoni easily. Dhoni has been a dud in ODIs for over half a decade. He also doesn't have any record to speak of.

Hits more sixes than Afridi and Gayle

The Hitman :viv

still overrated. everyone knows he is a FTB like warner. he is terrible against swing seam in England and n.z. He might only be good in Australia as he can play bounce well.

In s.africa he would struggle again as he can play seam/swing.

Can't say he is overrated but he is definiteley bit of a flat track bully.

It is not bad because most of the world pitches are flat nowadays.

with more practice on swing pitches do you think he can improve? would he do county cricket? I think he would never go to that extent.

It is hard to say. Pitches worldwide have become quite flat. But, he can definitely give county cricket a try.

Another test century for The Hitman.

He now averages 46+ in test cricket and has crossed 2000 runs.

Highest test score for The Hitman

199 not out at lunch

Gets hundred with a six

Now a double hundred with a six

Congrats Hitman :14:

That six against Cummins!!

Goodness. What a stunning player!!!

ODI hundred #29

#8 against Australia, equals Kohli

2nd greatest ODI opener ever after Tendulkar

Well done Hitman

Third fastest to 9000.

Even though he had a mediocre record for half his career.

That life changing decision of pushing him to open the innings did the trick. Have to thank Dhoni for that

As an opener

138 innings 7148 runs 58.11 avge 92.26 strike rate 27 centuries 31 fifties 682 furs 221 sixes

In other positions

79 innings 1967 runs 31.72 avge 78.5 strike rate 2 centuries 12 fifties 135 fours 23 sixes

ok this guy is just unreal in odi.
in saying that he isn't an all time great. You have to be a test legend to be a truly great player. If he can prove himself vs australia, England and n.z in the next away tours then yes sure. He could be a test legend too.

"Rohit Sharma is probably among the top 5 ODI batsmen of all time." - Aaron Finch

People have started to acknowledge the greatness of The Hitman!

What a change? Till 2015 he was one of most hated and trolled player on social media along with Sir Jadeja. Happy that both have been able to shut up the haters.

Since 2015 he has scored more centuries than even kohli. His first few years as middle order batsman will make his career stats poor though. Atm he has 29 centuries and i guess he should finish around 45 tons by the time he retires.

Phenomenal from Hitman.
Wow

Look at the number of sixes. Its not even close. The next 3 batsmen combined haven't hit as many :)))

Effect of super flat pitches. This guy is biggest benificiary of flat piches after 2013.

yea that's why England even fluked a world cup. flat pitches with shady short leg side boundaries rofl. Biggest scam ever. So undeserved.

Anyway rohit is still an odi Great no doubt but he will never be a true legend unless he performs vs SENA away in tests.

Also if we consider odi+t20 format then he has 28 centuries since 2015 while next best has 22.

Ironically Kohli and Dhawan both have a better SR during this time than Hitman despite all the sixes hit.

Just goes to show, Hitman uses his six hitting power strategically. He plays very safe and targets particular deliveries to balance his SR out. Its his genius actually and reason behind his success. There is after all some thought to his crazy hitting. He's not an Afridi or Pollard. He is simply a more talented version of Chris Gayle who cannot be rendered useless by quality spin bowling .

Rohit Sharma produced two magical hits in the super over against New Zealand on Wednesday to help Team India to a miraculous victory in the 3rd T20 international. The victory gave India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, having outplayed the Kiwis in the first two matches.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson played a scintillating knock of 95 to all but seal the match for the hosts, but Mohammed Shami bowled a stupendous final over to force a Super Over. The Kiwi captain was on fire again as he along with Martin Guptill plundered 17 off Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit came out to bat with KL Rahul in the Super over but failed to connect on the first two deliveries. Rahul kept India’s hopes alive but the target was stiff as Rohit needed to score 10 runs off the last two deliveries. Tim Southee is a seasoned bowler and Rohit’s job was not going to be easy. But he played two amazing shots and hit back to back sixes to take India over the line. The victory gave India their maiden T20I series win in New Zealand.

What is an astonishing fact though is that this is the first time that Rohit Sharma has got off the mark in a Super Over in a T20 encounter. This was India’s second tied match ever but their first super over, since the 2007 ICC WT20 match against Pakistan was decided by a bowl out.

In T20 cricket overall, this is the fourth time Rohit came out to bat in a Super over. Prior to this had not opened his account in a super over of a T20 match.

Rohit Sharma in Super Overs in Twenty20 cricket:

vs WI A, 2012 - 0 (1) run out (Representing in India A)

vs GL, 2017 - 0* (0) (In IPL representing Mumbai Indians)

vs SRH, 2019 - DNB (In IPL representing Mumbai Indians)

vs NZ, 2020 - 15* (4) (Representing India)

It must be kept in mind that Rohit is India’s most capped T20 player (327 matches) ever.

On this day, The Hitman hit 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka

Some shocking posts in this thread. Thankfully BCCI never doubted his ability.

Hitman is an LOI ATG. A team that has two ODI ATGs deserves to win a 50-over World Cup.

Hitman is defiantly LOI ATG.
At the end of LOI careers runs wise there wont be huge difference between Hitman & Kohli, both will remain same.

If Hitman bosses another world cup in 2023 compared to KohlI, he would have a very strong case of being greatest white ball batsman of this era.

Kohli needs to at least match him in 2023 if not exceed

"He Is Making A Mistake": Rohit Sharma's Coach Finds Flaws In India Captain's Game

Rohit Sharma's coach Dinesh Lad is not impressed with the way the Indian captain has been getting out of late, saying he must resort to playing the anchor's role instead of a "high-risk" game. Lad wants his ward to spend more time on the wicket. The Indian skipper got out for four runs against Pakistan on Sunday and scored just 14 against Australia in a warm-up match in the ongoing T20 World Cup. "Yes, he is playing a high-risk game for quite some time now, which he should not. I have no idea why he is doing that. I think he is making a mistake in playing an overly aggressive game," Lad told PTI in an interview on Wednesday.

"I feel he should spend more time on the crease and not throw his wicket away. I don't want him to take chances in the first six overs of the powerplay. He should play his normal and natural game.

"He should try to play 17-18 overs and score around 70-80 runs in every match he plays," Lad added.

The coach said that he would like to see a change in Rohit's approach in T20 cricket, especially in the ongoing showpiece.

"As his coach, I would like to see him as an anchor and not as a destroyer who plays high-risk games. If he stays on the wicket for some time, he will play long and useful innings.

"He plays too much in the air, maybe because sometimes it is needed in T20 cricket. But I would say he should go with controlled aggression. If he cuts down the risky shots, he will do well in every match." Recalling his last conversation with Rohit, Lad said: "The last time I spoke to him was before he went to the World Cup. We did not talk much about the technique as he has played so much cricket for India.

"I advised him to stay on the crease and play sensibly. I always want him to lead from the front and contribute maximum towards India's victory. But he is not getting the time as he is throwing his wickets away.

"Sometimes he gets out cheaply playing rash shots and he has to face criticism for that." He expressed confidence that Rohit will come back strongly in the upcoming matches.

"I am sure Rohit will come back very strongly. I feel he must show some patience. He should spend more time on the crease. The wickets in Australia are ideally suited for his kind of game. He is a stroke player and the ball nicely comes into the bat.

"In T20 cricket, it's difficult to talk about technique much. He should start enjoying the game more and do well for the country both as a player and as a captain.

"I am very happy and feel proud that my ward Rohit Sharma is leading India in the T20 World Cup. Just like India won the World Cup on his debut World Cup in 2007 I would like to see him lift the World Cup on his debut as captain." On Virat Kohli's spectacular match-winning innings against Pakistan, Lad said: "Virat Kohli played the best T20 innings I have ever seen. The best part was that he was always in control. He never played a false or wrong shot.

"In T20 cricket, there is a lot of improvisation, reverse sweeps, scoops, etc. but Virat did not play any such shot. He played proper cricketing shots. This had to be his best innings given the magnitude and the pressure situation India was in." He also said that Rohit must try to adapt and play like Kohli did during his wondrous knock against a lethal Pakistan attack.

"I feel that Rohit will start playing like a match-winner again. We are about to see the best of Rohit once again, like the 2019 World Cup in England." "He has won five IPL titles. He is an involved captain. He has self-belief. He knows how to take the best out of which player and how to utilize the best out of them.

"Our chances of lifting the World Cup have increased as the momentum is with us. Momentum is there in India's favour after their thrilling victory over Pakistan on Sunday."

Indian openers in this T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma- 116 runs off 109 balls, Strike rate- 106
KL Rahul- 128 runs off 106 balls, Strike rate-120

Combined- 244 runs off just 215 balls with gigantic strike rate of 113

What a performance by these academy beast.

Rohit is finished, both as T20 player & Captain (in all formats)

Rohit is no "hitman"! Change this thread title... the only hitman is Pandya after hitting wicket :))

Should be the first to retire from T20Is in this squad with a few to accompany him.
knocked out from T20 WC 2021 with top order's timid batting approach, realized the mistake and adopted aggressive powerplay batting for the last 1 year, only to repeat the timid batting in WC 2022 again. absolutely shocking.
poor poor poor tournament for rohit with bat.
get back in shape and start getting runs to be in the ODI and test squad.

Rohit as a captain especially in the Australian condition has looked very poor

The bowlers Rohit as a captain and the selectors and team management have selected have been very poor

B.Kumar and Arshdeep are the only two wicket taking options and all others have been defensive

Although, that being said Rohit"s captaincy maybe different when Ind is playin in conditions similar to that found in India.

Other than that his captaincy looks pretty poor as he failed find a aggressive wicket taking spinner in Aus conditions

Clearly Rohit was relying on Bumrah but still Ind knew he wont make it to WC and they still failed to find a suitable replacement

Overall India"s poor showing should be held responsible on Rohit"s captaincy

Rohit Sharma dismissal

Is that Rohit Sharma or Haider Ali in a blue jersey?

Indian openers in this T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma- 116 runs off 109 balls, Strike rate- 106
KL Rahul- 128 runs off 106 balls, Strike rate-120

Combined- 244 runs off just 215 balls with gigantic strike rate of 113

What a performance by these academy beast.
They have three fifties to their name against Netherlands, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. They are not out of form, just not made for good cricket matches.

I will say that about KL Rahul. Not about ROhit. Rohit has one foot at retirement. Don't get fooled by his fifty against Netherlands. He was dropped very early in his innings. Rohit failed entire IPL.

Crazy to think in 2 days it will be the 8 year anniversary of when he hit that 264 Vs SL. Time flies man… to think where he was in 2014 and where he was just the other day Vs England in a WC

He was one of the key contributor in 2007 final lol He is that old

Rohit has a few more milestones in sight.

He is closing on 10,000 runs in ODI, he is 163 runs away from the milestone. He will become the 15th player in ODI to score 10000+ runs and the 6th Indian player.

He has a strike-rate of 100+ in both 2022 and 2023 so far whereas in between 2007 and 2021 he had struck at 100+ only once.

(In 2018) He is also closing in on 300 sixes in ODI- he will become the 3rd player to hit 300+ sixes in ODI and the first Indian player.

Seems Rohit was practicing for the Shaheen dismissal? :D

Him & kholi look washed up must be playing for commercial reasons !

In this Asia Cup I observed that Rohit Sharma made a slight adjustment to his stance possibly to counter the impact of inswing deliveries. However this adaptation did not prove to be highly effective against Shaheen.

Rohit looks woefully out of form. All the fingers have been on Kohli for not being in form while Rohit hasn't been his self since being appointed captain.

Given the kind of delivery on which Rohit got dismissed in the last match, I don't think he can easily regain his form at this point.

"I think Rohit is unable to read or understand Shaheen. The visual of Rohit Sharma being beaten like this was not good, but he is a far better player than this. Rohit can bat much better than this. I think he is worrying too much," Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

"The constant interruptions by rain, leading to the players going off the ground and coming back in, it affects the focus of the batters. Gill lost his wicket because of this reason, he lost his concentration, and that is why he played such a loose shot," said Akhtar.

For someone blessed with the gift of timing, Rohit Sharma's strokeplay can be deceiving. Always labelled with the moniker of 'having an extra split second', Rohit has never been considered a power hitter like MS Dhoni, Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill or the mighty Chris Gayle. Yet, here is he, just 14 sixes shy of breaking one of the most revered records in the world of cricket. With 539, Rohit holds the distinction of smashing the second highest sixes in international cricket, with only Gayle ahead of him. But with a packed calendar ahead, it is only a matter of time before Rohit leaves the Universe Boss behind to become the undisputed king of sixes.

For a 22-year-old starting off for India in 2007, and not being a permanent fixture in Team India colours, this achievement is quite thunderous for Rohit. He has 280 sixes in ODIs, 182 in T20Is and another 77 in Tests – even doesn't have these many (he has 78 in Tests) and neither does Sachin Tendulkar – so for Rohit to reach the landmark will add further glory to his already rich CV that boasts three ODI triple centuries.

"It will be a unique record for sure. Never in my life would I have imagined that I would be the one to break Chris Gayle's record. It is funny. I am not a muscle person but I like hitting the ball hard," he told senior journalist Vimal Kumar in a chat on his YouTube channel.
