I'm willing to open myself for a future @Bhaag_Viru_Bhaag-type humiliation :rishabhpant
Dislaimer - I've pretty much watched snatches of him only in national colours.
I'm aware he's some kind of an IPL hero, but this guy reminds me of a Ravi Bopara level player. Plays some attractive shots - the straight hits even look Kohliesque. But you just know and so does he, that he will only score when it really doesn't matter. He needs to be allowed to ply his trade in the IPL and leave the national team to players who can actually win games. I saw full replays of that Tewatia guy in the last IPL and I'd take him over Iyer for the WC.
In the unlikely event that Iyer humiliates an internet nobody like me, I'll take the small pleasure that India won the game. Unlike some others
Where have I humiliated myself? I gave a prediction that Pant will end his career with a below 30 average. Has he retired yet? Plenty of series and years still left. Calm down.
Played well today but still not sold on him yet for some reason....
But he should be backed nevertheless. Not gonna hate on a youngster and make sweeping wishful statements on how his career would pan out like a sore loser..
Iyer, Rahul, Mayank, Manish , Samson- somehow this generation is most lackluster imo I have no faith in them to win anything.
This generation has already won in Aus, stop spreading this negativity everywhere.
Manish is from Kohli's U19 batch. Samson isn't even a top level performer in domestic cricket. He won't get opportunities in other formats.
Iyer and Agarwal haven't got long runs.
This generation will dominate world cricket because now we have much better bowling than our previous teams.
It's laughable when 90s era fans call current team player lackluster
90s era fans also watched greatest Aussie team, best South African team ever, Pakistan's and Sri Lanka's best line up and not so bad West Indian side. Not to mention Zimbabwe side who wouldn't let any team (except Aus) win comfortably in Zim. NZ was always a dark horse . This generation has seen nothing of that sort so joke is on you, not us.This generation has already won in Aus, stop spreading this negativity everywhere.

If it makes you feel any better 90s was lackluster as well.
Also my opinion was only on those players- my expectations are better(now) from Pant, washi,Gill,Devdutt,Jaisval set...
Shreyas on Instagram and against pace
Hmm what matches will he play for them? Can he join in August to play test series?
Royals London Cup is a 50-overs limited series, so it is an ODI tournament and can help him for ODI matches which I feel is his best format.
Kanpur: India skipper Ajinkya Rahane confirmed that middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will make his Test debut in the first Test against New Zealand on Thursday after opener KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to a muscle strain on left thigh.
Or perfecting his dance moves.Shreyas Iyer should focus on selling mutual funds rather than playing cricket.
Is he that bad against pace? He has got problems against short-pitch bowling but many of our legends like Ganguly had that problem. He reminds me a lot of Handscomb actually, who is also a good player of spin, but bad against pace bowling because of his poor technique.

Australia has also Labuchane.I don't think he will succeed in overseas conditions with that unconventional technique, I've got nothing against him. I just don't like unorthodox players in test cricket as their technique will let them down in difficult conditions, unless their name is Steve Smith.
Every country has such players tbh - Iyer for India, Handscomb for Australia, Fawad Alam for Pakistan.

Don't rate him much but to be fair, most of our batsman average in 30s overseas, so it is not like our so called talented and technically equipped players do any great overseas.
He did played a crucial knock today or else we could have bowled out under 300.
Sundar on the other hand was hardly rated as a batsman. Turns out he played better than many specialists.
Nowadays it is hard to tell who will make it big who will suck overseas. Agarwal despite a great start to his career in the boxing day Test got progressively worse exposing huge holes in his batting technique. Same with almost all the highly-rated players. I think he should play in asain conditions only excellent player of spin

Great innings from Shreyas today . He is indeed a complete cricketer and has that maturity . I hope he is now permanent in all 3 formats

Excellent news.
Cant wait for this fraud to flop in grand manner.
I cannot believe how someone with no talent, no skill and and zero ability make it to the national side. He must be related to someone up in BCCI....

Executed the reverse jinx brilliantly.
Agree with you, quite similar to Dhoni.Another home track bully who can thrash spinners very well on flat tracks.
No, he should play in all conditions. In the middle order (No.5 or No.6). Yes he might not look that good against pace, but he can manage if he plays in lower middle order with balls getting old & bowlers getting tired on most occasions! That's how people like Steven Waugh, Hansie Cronje, etc, thrived!
Batting is a multi-dimensioned, multi-skilled art... You are wrong if you think you should counter spin only in Asian Conditions (just like some people think that "art of fast bowling" is useless in Asia!) In fact batting gets tougher against spin at times in Australia, England... on 4th & 5th days with hard cracks coming into play...
Bowlers need to be rotated (you can't play more spinners outside Asia and more pacers in Asia) because they are bowling in only one dimension, but batsmen have to always play different bowlers. Also injury/fatigue doesn't affect as much to batsmen compared to bowlers... In addition to that batsmen always need to continue their rhythm because they won't get a second chance in their batting innings, they should not miss any big match unless they are injured! That's why I felt Rohit, Pant, etc, should not have missed this series...
Shreyas Iyer should be first choice in Test Team from hereon even if it means that one out of Pujara/Rahane has to be kept out...
Look at his performances in new zealand. He has century and many 50s playing there in odi cricket. He has skills to be successful everywhere
