What's new

Virat Kohli becomes the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs, beats Sachin Tendulkar by 54 innings

54 innings faster than Tendulkar...Simply awesome, whatever excuses one may come up with...

From Cricinfo,

Kohli got from 9k to 10k ODI runs in just 11 innings!

The 2nd greatest ODI batsman of all time behind Sir Viv. One outstanding WC and he is undisputed GOAT.

Unfortunately, "sir' viv is not fit to be in the same post code as Kohli. Kohli hasn't had the luxury of feasting on Madan lal, roger binny, and the assorted trundlers england put in the park.

Wow! Outstanding

The day Babar gets to 10k runs would be declared as a public holiday in Pakistan. This is an outstanding achievement and only the best ever reach this club

Yeah, no. Play enough ODIs and a good enough bat would get there. Exhibit 1: Jayawardene.

Sir Viv scored when it mattered the most.
His SR was 90 in an era when 70SR was supposed to be good. He played in an era of proper boundaries, no fielding restrictions and unlimited bouncers. 250 was considered a winning score. Viv averages 47 in an era when 40 was considered to be great.

The game has change hence one can safely say that both are the best of their generation, useless to compare as there is no real way to know.

Jayawardene is a class batsman. As I said, this is an elite club, it takes consistent performance to get selected to play enough ODIs as a batsman, especially considering this format of the game is constantly evolving

Sachin started opening only after 112 matches. He was batting at 5 before. So this does not tell the whole story.

FUN FACT

Kohli has now scored more ODI hundreds since the start of 2016 (13) than any England batsman has managed ever (Trescothick and Root with 12).

Insane numbers.

That’s the thing about great players. They are game changers. They don’t just beat records they destroy them.

Needs to make sure he ends up with highest number of runs in history

You are ignorant about the history of the game, as they say ignorance is bliss. Carry on.

Top 3 Indian :asif

How does it matter? Please don't insult the purest form of the game and the biggest test of a cricketer i.e domestic cricket by comparing it with International ODI cricket. Kohli can only ever imagine being ATG's like Graeme Hick and Mark Ramprakash.

Not everything written in cricket history books is a statement of fact.

I find this part by that poster unacceptably biased "unfortunately, "sir' viv is not fit to be in the same post code as Kohli. "

Not everything written in cricket history books is a statement of fact.

People often forget that the plaudits which players from the past have earned are opinions as well. They are not facts derived from the laws of physics :))

Sir Viv scored when it mattered the most.

Actually Viv did not score when it mattered most, that is in the 1983 WC Final. After having won 2 WCs in a row, WI was heavily favored to win the third and keep winning. Instead Viv slogged wildly and gave Kapil a chance to create a legendary moment. WI not even being able to reach India's meagre total. It was the end of WI dominance, they never got to the final of a WC again.

Sachin as an opener was somewhat near. Till January 2014 he played 214 innings as opener and scored 10075 runs.
Sachin played 6 matches as no. 3 & flopped
Virat played 6 matches as opener & flopped

And you are a sorry bag of cliche who offers nothing except uncritically parroting received wisdom. Caryr on indeed.

Amazing Stats for Kohli. I still think Sachin will always remain the bigger batsman than him. By no means taking away the greatness of kohli in any manner but I believe Sachin played the game in different conditions than kohli.
- Conditions as in the 2 new balls takes reverse swing out of the picture.
- Having T20 in this era has changed the game/mindset of batsmen these days.
- The amount of great fast/spin bowlers is very less now than compared to Sachin Era.

However the way kohli has been played the game so far its just unbelievable :salute

You can twist the 'position' and stats all you want. Doesn't change the fact he took longer and wasn't as impactful as Kohli.

Lol when did I twist anything. Sachin played more matches as lower order bat than Kohli on 5th & 6th position that too in 1990-95 which was a different era compared to today. May be played only 10-11 matches with two new ball rule (at 38) and still a better bat in ICC tournaments and finals.

He is better than Sachin. I hope he smashes all records of Sachin who selfishly prolonged his career just for the sake of making records. Sachin lost all my respects in his last 2 years of his career

what did Sachin do in any ICC finals, he won one ICC world where Kohli was the one along wih Gambhir set that chase up.Kohli was highest scorer in CT finals which India won.Stop giving this nonsense that tendulkar was better.

Looks like you can't read properly. I said ICC tournaments and finals. Sachin has a superior average in ICC tournaments, in WC, has 3 half centuries in knockout games in WC. By finals I meant all tournament finals. Sachin has 6 centuries in finals of different tournaments much more half centuries and averages 55

Sachin played so many tri series in his career becuase it was norm then so he will have more 100s in finals. Now a days there are no tri series at all so how do you expect Kohli to score 100s or fifties.

Kohli has played lot fewer ICC tournaments so obviously he will not have so many runs.

Kohli single handedly dragged a very ordinary Indian t20 teams to finals and semis of two consecutive T20 tournaments proving he does not buckle under pressure.

He will go down as one of the greatest batsmen to have lived the game.

Not even 30 years old. Already 37 ODI centuries. You know how hard it is to score one hundred in any format let alone one dayer.

This man is a freak of nature. A pure genius. Super human.

He is now becoming the Bradman of our time.
