As expected, the so called best and most talented batsman in the world bottles it in the big game and so does Amla, who not only choked with the bat but also bottled it in the field :amla

This settles the debate who the better batsman is and that accolade always belongs to the man who steps up on the big occasions.

I'm sure if this was a bilateral or a group game, we'd have seen a full range of Mr.360 AKA de villier's stroke play as well as Amla's classy stroke play.

:amla

Kohli and ABDV are Lara and Tendulkar of this generation, hard to seperate. All others are one tier below them.

ABDV is a genious too, no sane Indian cricket fan will mock him.

Fully agree with Tera Gawaandi and tempus.

Kohli is reaching a zone that Sachin never reached (not talking about just skill but skill + effectiveness combo).

If this was a bilateral series, India would've been whitewashed . India really turn up for big events, and then get whitewashed from the likes of NZ for the rest of the year. SA is the opposite who never go all the way in a big event.

As expected Mamoon is over the moon for India and Kohli. Congratulations by the way.

IMO its SRT, MS and Kohli. Kohli can easily trump these 2 and become no.1 because he is just 25 and can do so much more. To be compared to these 2 already is immense achievement in itself.

In terms of effectiveness he has already trumped Sachin.

Its Kohli Vs MSD for effectiveness.

Sachin was a lot more brilliant to watch. He wasn't just clinical, but had more flair than Kohli.

What Kohli has on Sachin though is his match finishing ability.

De Villiers is a top draw player no need to insult him like this Mamoon he failed today but Kohli is the best LOI batsman in the world under pressure the best LOI batsman ive seen in Tests id still say Amla and De Villiers but i think Virat can surpass them eventually

Kohli is the pressure player.might not show in stats but the kind of player you'd love to have

TBH, AB DV is still the boss , its just Amla who sucks. When was the last time Amla played such a dominating innings in an important match ?

Tendulkar had been unlucky a few times.. like his 175 against Australia when India lost by 3 runs..

but having said that, Kohli makes sure he stays till the end, and Tendulkar didn't do that.

Re: Kohli showing de Villiers and Amla who the boss is.

Abdv is still the better player.

Imagine the mindset and outcomes if Dhoni was walking at 6 when SRT was at his peak. He makes a huge difference. You know that even if you get out, here comes the one of the best finishers in limited overs cricket.

I think SA would have won few ICC events if Dhoni was walking in to bat after AB. Others can simply play with a huge confidence.

Do you know Tendulkar was an opener?

Kohli kuch aur hai bhaiyo .. he must be an alien of some description.

Consistently brutal.

IMO, Kohli has already surpassed Tendu in terms of his match winning ability.

Tendu is more of a contributor. Kohli wins games and usually stays till the end.

Sachin was a lot more brilliant to watch. He wasn't just clinical, but had more flair than Kohli.

No way, Kohli has much more flair, whilst Tendulkar was much more methodical and technically sound.

I know but in the large scheme of things that's a negligible amount.

Kohli's temperament is so much higher now that its a joke to compare with Sachin's temperament.

Sachin is the kind of player who will come, smash a lot of deliveries, make an unbelievable 50 (or 100) and then just play a stupid shot and walk away.

Eg - Hobart Innings (his powers may have dwindled by then but he was in good flow and there was no need for shuffling across the wicket and getting lbw)

Kohli's ODI temperament is INFINITELY higher than Sachin's.

Test match is a different case.

Not sure how Amla gets abused here ... got an absolute jaffa. ABD also came in with 4 overs to go.

Can't really compare Tendy and Kohli I don't think ... Kohli is the kind of batsman I imagine Viv Richards would've been like. Tendulkar accumulated but never had that fear factor about him.

I think Raina is the one who finished the match for India..

Definitely Dhoni is a calming influence, but Kohli doesn't leave it for him.

absolutely wrong , Kohli is effective but boring. Tendulkar's batting was so so so soooooooooooooooooo enjoyable.

lol.... as usual, amla and ABCD failed....

they just.... can't play in pressure.

Thanks for enlightening me.. but there is not much difference b/w no.3 and no.2.

i agree. Kohli wants to make sure that he stays till the end and make the team reach the goal.

tendu hadn't had THAT much intention.

Tendulkar was much more destructive in first 14 years of his career, only after injury he changed his batting. Kohli will be 2nd all time ODI great after Tendulkar.

Do you know Tendulkar was an opener?
Which is why I think this comparison is a little unfair. Don't think Kohli could've opened and smashed Wasim, Waqar and Akhtar like Sachin did in WC03. Kohli will be toast if Junaid regains his form or at the sight of Irfan.

Kohli was never meant to be the next Tendulkar. I see him as a modern Dravid instead. Solid number 3 with technique and temperament willing to occupy the crease, tuk tuk if needed and then finish matches.

Sachin was an opener who demolished attacks and wasn't meant to carry the bat.

These are greatest India LOI players -

Kapil Dev
Saurav Ganguly
Yuvraj Singh
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Virat Kohli
Sachin Tendulkar

Which is why MS is easily one of the top 3 Indian bats. Without him would Kohli be so successful?

How exactly did ABD "bottle" here? He went out there to carry on where Faf left off and got out rather unfortunately looking for a six. There's a difference of a country-mile between the roles these two batsmen had to play today and by no means does it lend itself to a fair comparison between the two.

Tendulkar was much more destructive in first 14 years of his career, only after injury he changed his batting. Kohli will be 2nd all time ODI great after Tendulkar.

He's already got 19 ODI hundreds at 25. He will saunter past Tendulkar's stats in ODIs by the end of his career.

No way was Tendulkar better than Kholi in odi, Kholi match winning ability is out of the world..

When did Rahul Dravid win an important ODI match for India on his own like Kohli did ?

Whats weird with Kohli is that we sense he will further peak from here on, currently he seems to be in normal mode. He's a beast.

He's already got 19 ODI hundreds at 25. He will saunter past Tendulkar's stats in ODIs by the end of his career.

Purely as a batsmen he will never be rated above Tendulkar, people will talk about Kohli's run making ability and compare him to Ricky Ponting. He will not join Tendulkar's or Lara's at end of his career.

All Indians in this thread agreed that ABDV is equally good or even better than Kohli, Mamoon is over-reacting. You don't need false flag to praise a genius like Kohli.

Both ABDevilliers and KOHLI are excellent players. Currently Kohli is marginally better

I think Raina is the one who finished the match for India..

Definitely Dhoni is a calming influence, but Kohli doesn't leave it for him.

Yes, Raina is a very good finisher as well. His 20 runs in 10 balls made sure that Indians were never under pressure from the other end.

ABD is the best

Why criticise ABD ? ABD is the best. In TESTS+oDIS+t20S, ABD is untouchable.

AB might choke in a big event held every other year, but most of the year he's not going to lose 15 games in a row like Kohli does. He's a genius batsman. Tackled Irfan a lot better than Kohli who was a sitting duck in front of Irfan and genuinely looked scared. Kohli doesn't have it in him to score a 28 ball 69 that AB scored in his previous match.

Have an irrational dislike for Kohli but he's a beast, no reason why he can't bat this way in Tests either. Will have an average average of just under 50 across all formats. If ever there was one player who encapsulates the current modern age of batting, it's Kohli.

Mamoon is the biggest Kohli fanboy so of course he gets insecure at the sound of AB being the best.

Can Kohli EVER be able to come out of the shadow of being sitting duck against Junaid and Irfan ?

How about if he scores 50 centuries ? Will you then stop talking about stuff happened in 2012 ?

Yeah right as I can see all Indians are also praising De Villiers in this thread so the accusations of being Indian must stop. One has to be a poor observer of the game to not appreciate a player like AB.

When the gping gets tough, Virat Kohli gets going! :kohli

Best cricketer going around!

In Tests De Villiers is better and so is Amla Amla has scored some brilliant 4th innings ton his ton chasing 236 in Cape Town 2011 Tests against Aus 414 chase at Perth him and AB have accomplished more in Tests in Virat but Virats career is young he has time to replicate those moments. Even Indians arent hyping up Kohli as much as Mamoon they are happy of course but they arent using Kohlis success to talk trash about AB and Amla well done to Kohli he outperformed them in this game but no need to insult Amla and AB for no reason.

what a beast, an absolute genius and the way he bossed the game in the end was unbelievable. It felt India were chasing 120 runs. He has the class of Sachin and mind-boggling consistency with chasing from Dhoni.

Kohli = MSD + Sachin

Mere speculation. I don't think Sachin was capable of chasing 320 off 40 overs in an ODI game any time, even at his peak.

Junaid will be toast the next time he bowls to Kohli.

De Villiers is awesome. But he has to pick his game in tournaments. The only thing South Africa have missing is an ICC trophy, and this should be a reason enough for ABD to pick his game up in such events.

I will take Rahul Dravid's opinion about LOI batting if I get some free time.. there are better experts out there.

Like who? Name any expert who says opening and playing at no.3 are same. Name any expert who expects openers to finish the job. Name any expert who says Kohli is better than Tendulkar.

Why the heck is this Junaid vs Kohli thing so hyped? Kohli treats Steyn like a normal bowler, who the hell is Junaid? I am sure kohli will beat the crap out of him in a ODI or test.

Garbage like Junaid being compared to Kohli is indeed an insult.

Amla has always been a big failure in ICC events and de Villiers has done better but still bottles it in the big games. Has failed in two successive semifinals.

I hope we agree we are talking about LOIs and not Tests ?

Wait for Kohli's career to end.

As a Sachin fan, I can tell you Kohli is unlike anything I have seen.

Not skills but as an overall effective batsman.

hehe , thats absolutely correct.

Amla is way overrated. Ab is good as long as it's not a crunch match in an ICC tournament.

Not sure about Sachin not being capable part. Also in that match Sehwag and Tendulkar gave India a fine start and others also played well.. Tendulkar usually played a lone warrior innings.. his 175 against Australia.

The second part of your statement is also a speculation, isn't it ?

Tbh Junaid getting the better of Kohli is like Razzaq vs Tendulkar it was a fluke Junaid isnt half the bowler he was then and Kohli is twice the player he would destroy Junaid now Irfan vs Kohli would be a good battle though in ODIS

Sachin dint have the ability to finish, Kohli kills other team while chasing. Pure torture.
Sachin was although a destroyer of attacks.

Yes its a speculation but a logical one.

Of course, it can go either way. Junaid can own Kohli too.

I have a question for you:

You are a very good poster. Always you see the context and reply. But may I ask you one thing (if you dont mind):

Why do you micro analyze every little sentence?

Of course, IndianWillow (another awesome poster) meant that considering Junaid doesn't now bring the ball back into right handers.

You got the main gist of right?

Sometimes when we make posts, we don't add in all disclaimers. In a close knit forum, that's totally okay cos if I name 5 frequent posters, almost everyone can tell their likes and dislikes to some extent.

Who cares?

Im sure ABD himself would love to trade some of the good innings he has played in meaningless games in exchange for a match winning knock in the semi innings of a WC!

This.

Sachin was not finisher.

Leaving aside the fact that he had no support in hey days, he just couldn't play a finisher's role like Kohli.

A few games here and there doesn't say anything.

Kohli time and again has shown that he can accumulate, accelerate and finish.

Our fans are utterly clueless.

They think Junaid Khan is some sort of a future all-time great bowler.lol

I am not doubting IndianWillow's posting sense, I think he talks a lot of sense. But I have a habit of replying to the post and not to the poster (play the ball not the bowler.. he he he).

Unless Kohli owns Junaid in swinging conditions, can't say "he will be toast".

I think you are right in pointing out to me that I micro analyse, but I try and ask questions for clarifications first so that I make sure I get the right intention of the post rather than just rely on the words, hence I asked the question to him rather than interpreting it myself.

Never. :yk

#Aanay do

On a serious note, averages 5.25 with a strike rate of 38 while batting first against Pakistan in 4 ODIs. Averages 11 vs Pak if you take out that 183* innings. Even with it, averages 33 against Pak. So chillax with those 50 centuries.

Tendulkar can be expected to chase down 6 runs per over, I would not be confident if India were chasing 8 RPO from the start, which is a stiff target even for a T20 game. But Kohli oozes such confidence that any target appears within reach if he does not lose his wicket.

No. Junaid has gone down after that game (he no longer swings the ball well) and Kohli has gone several notches up. And add in the factor - India and Pakistan do not play a lot of bilateral games, and meet mostly in World games, who do you think can be expected to dominate?

Embaressing Thread.AB is a class-act but never seem to have been a fan of Amla...Over-rated on Pak Passion

I think Tendulkar's 175 against Australia was chasing 359 which you agree is a daunting task and he brought India so close.. also it was mostly a one-man-show.

That 320 in 40 overs was setup beautifully by Sehwag and Tendulkar and Kohli bulldozed the rest. I don't think that was Kohli's best effort.. I rate today's innings much better.
