What's new

West Indies beat South Africa by 100 runs in the Tri-Nation Series (South Africa knocked out)

Great to see Windies go from strength to strength. Also great to see the haters with their mouths shut.

ODI cricket can be so great when played right. When there is something there for bowlers and the batsmen have to work for their runs like Bravo did then this format can be amazing. Shame some people are saying it should be finished.

These two need to bat positively. Going into their shells will only quicken their demise.

Must say, I've been quite impressed with Behardien today; looks confident playing his shots.

If Behardien saves the game from here, he'll earn back some respect. Highly doubt it though.

This Gabriel is like Rahat Ali in that he has talent but has a loser body language and weak in the field.

Current partnership is 17 off 43. These two need to get a move on or they might end up regretting it.

Behardien finally holes out. Resilient 35 (57), but South Africa needed more.

Impressed with Tahir. Wish we could have him in our top order. :shehzad

We need to do something quick. The way WI are going the gap between #8 and #9 will grow wider and wider and we may be stuck at #9 if PCB doesn't wake up and persists with the usual dross in ODIs.

Excellent win for Windies, hopefully they topple AUS once again in the finale :)

Finally we have 9 & 11 strong ODI & T20 units respectively.

Come again. :misbah:inzi

Lmao man I went to sleep when the windies were tottering at some 20 odd for 3 wickets and I woke up to see a score of SA 150/9..

You can't fault me for thinking this was another massacre..The windies have been the whipping boys for SA for far too long. Great to see them rise back. Knockout game, chasing, I guess old habits die hard for the south africans:srini

Looks like the windies have bowled really well too:holding

Very happy for WI. IPL has done a great job nurturing these West Indians. :gayle

Delighted for West Indies. With a couple of decent openers this can be a strong ODI lineup.

Very embarrassing result for South Africa, this could mark an end to Russel Domingo's tenure as coach. I think South Africa should also re-consider ABD as a captain, it should probably be given to Faf, would also like to see Dale Steyn back in the ODI set up.

Other than Hashim and Tahir, and probably to some extent Shamsi and Rabada, none of the other players we up to the mark which is extremely disappointing.

Their senior generation of cricketers (faf included) don't seem to enthusiastic about playing for the national team.

One thing I have noticed in the last year so is South Africa have a lot of players in there LOI team who are near 30 or 9ver. Most of them are the best players I think they need to try and introduce some new players. I do not know how much talent is in the South African domestic circuit

Rabada didn't do well other than last match. Btw it's not an embarrassing result, Windies played very well throughout the tournament. De Villiers need to be replaced though!

Welcome to minnow territory South Africa, we were getting lonely out here :))

Btw that was a sarcasm comment. Some people's here blames IPL for India's dismal performance against Zimbabwe, so why not give credits to IPL when some of its players played well?!?

It's sarcastic but to some extent it's true.

West Indian domestic cricket has always been weak and even in the past generations Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge etc developed their games in domestic cricket elsewhere (World Series Cricket or more commonly English county cricket).

Michael Holding once attributed a lot of the improvement to WSC when they were professional players under Kerry Packer who demanded that they train like professionals since he was paying them like they were professionals.

County Cricket cutting down on overseas players has really hampered West Indian and to a lesser extent Pakistani cricket

Yes, WI played well but given the kind of side RSA are, at least on paper, it is a little embarrassing for them to lose out to a 8th ranked team.

I think they are serious about doing well for RSA mate, I think ABD and Hash both are keen to play on till the next WC, Dale Steyn has said that he would like to win one major tournament and may also be keen to play on till 2019. Their biggest problem right now is a good leader, after Graeme Smith and Kallis have gone RSA seem to have struggled a lot without a good leadership group. Hash is not interested in captaincy, neither is AB (by the look of it), probably only Faf is, but he is also not an exceptional leader and then there is no other senior player (or even youngsters) whom RSA can actually look upon as a future leader.

Not sure about De Kock's credentials as a leader, but they need to groom someone and do that very soon.

Sure they all talk about getting silverware but none have the credentials or form (faf) or willingness to do it. Besides, I think CSA ought to move on from these guys: understandably the senior players should maximize their paydays now that requirement beckons. Besides if the same set of world beating players are unable to get across the finishing line despite multiple tries, then it's time to move on.

I would like the seniors to stay actually, esp Hashim and AB because they are still 32-33 and have a lot of cricket left in them. I still think that they are a very very good team, but their inconsistency really baffles me, lets not forget they have secured ODI series wins over India and England not that long ago, but yeah the consistency is just not there.

Also I don't know what's up with their selection policy on colored players, surely your best players must be selected, colored or not... I hope RSA won't go down Zimbabwe route, that really scares me.
