Cricket West Indies (CWI) today unveiled an exciting and dynamic 15-member squad for three (3) One Day International (ODI) matches against Ireland from May 21-25 and three (3) against England from May 29 to June 3.

The squad has the nucleus of players who were successful during home series wins against England and Bangladesh to end 2024. The highly anticipated tour will be the first one of this year for the limited overs team and provides an opportunity for CWI to focus on building its ODI team ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

CWI also announced changes to the coaching staff for the tour. Former West Indies fast bowler and 2012 World Cup champion Ravi Rampaul will be the team’s bowling coach, replacing James Franklin. CWI will also utilize the services of former Ireland allrounder Kevin O’Brien as part of the coaching staff during the Ireland leg of the tour.

Selectors have named 14-player squads for Ireland Men’s two white-ball series against West Indies Men starting in Clontarf next week.

This is the first time the West Indies Men have played in Ireland since 2019, with the two sides playing a three-match one-day international series next week, and a three-match T20 International series at Bready in June.

Paul Stirling will captain both squads, with Lorcan Tucker as his vice-captain.

Three uncapped players will potentially make international debuts: Cade Carmichael, Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy.

Mark Adair, who is recovering from injury, will miss the ODI series, but is expected to play in the T20I series.

Andrew White, National Men’s Selector, said:

“Selection decisions for these two series were challenging, given the growing depth of talent we have in Ireland. However, one programme that has truly shown its value for everyone involved in High Performance was the Ireland Wolves tour to the UAE last month. As a means of preparing emerging players for international cricket life and testing those players at a higher standard of cricket, the Wolves tour made clear to us that several players were ready to progress to the senior setup.

“Cade Carmichael has been in the pathway for several years now. His talent, stroke play, and resilience were on full display for the Wolves in April, and his rise over the last couple of years is a real demonstration of how consistent performances – and his ability to adapt his game to conditions – have been recognised with an International call-up.

“In a similar vein, two seam bowlers – Liam McCarthy and Tom Mayes – have also been recognised for consistency and demonstrating the ability to step their game up a level at each time of asking. Both players offer something different to the squad – Mayes with his height and accuracy, while McCarthy brings a slightly different dynamic to our attack and will certainly challenge the batters techniques.

“While we’re disappointed that Mark Adair is not quite there yet in his return-to-play plan and will miss the ODIs, we do have hopes that he will be ready for the T20I series next month.”

Shepherd & Rutherford to miss England tour for IPL

West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford and all-rounder Romario Shepherd will miss the upcoming tour of England and Ireland to remain at the Indian Premier League.

The IPL, the world's richest T20 franchise league, restarts on Saturday but its' postponement means the play-offs now begin on 29 May and clash with the Windies' one-day and T20 tour of England.

England - with a richer national board - picked five IPL players in their one-day international squad but those players are expected to return.

"We acknowledge that players have their individual contractual arrangements which they would want to honour as it relates to their continued participation," Cricket West Indies said.

"CWI fully supports those players who choose to remain in India to complete the tournament."

Shepherd, who has played 37 ODIs and 53 T20s, will be replaced in the squad by left-arm seamer Jediah Blades.

He has played four matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, including a 14-ball 53 not out in his most recent innings.

Rutherford has played in nine matches for current IPL leaders Gujarat Titans this season.

He will be replaced by top-order batter John Campbell for the Ireland leg of the tour while Shimron Hetmyer will take his place for the matches against England.

Hetmyer is another West Indies player at the IPL but his Rajasthan Royals side are already eliminated. He was originally left out of the Windies ODI squad after a poor run of form.

Seamer Shamar Joseph is at the IPL but has not featured for his side Lucknow Super Giants and remains in the West Indies squad.

The Windies play three ODIs in Ireland from 21 May before a three-match series in England from 29 May.

Three T20s against England follow from 6 June but the tourists are yet to name a squad for that contest.

Ireland lose two players to injury for West Indies series

Injury has forced Ireland to make two late changes to their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series at home against the West Indies.

Key all-rounder Curtis Campher fractured his finger in the nets when batting, while veteran quick Craig Young hurt his hamstring during a recent domestic contest and the duo have been ruled out of the three-game series that commences in Clontarf on May 21.

Uncapped teenage all-rounder Jordan Neill and batter Stephen Doheny are the two players added to the 14-member squad, with veteran opener Paul Stirling to captain Ireland throughout the series against the Caribbean side that will be led by Shai Hope.

While disappointed to lose a pair of key players to injury, selector Andrew White is excited by the opportunity their absence will provide for other squad members.

“It’s not ideal when you lose a player to injury just prior to a series, but unfortunately, both Young and Campher join a bit of a lengthy list on the rehabilitation table. Most pertinently, our seam attack is heavily impacted with Mark Adair, Graham Hume, Craig Young, Fionn Hand and Curtis Campher all out.

“This series will be a real test of our depth, and instead of bemoaning what we won’t have, my view is that these absences provide a real opportunity for some of our up-and-coming talent to play at home against a world-class opposition.”

Ireland squad: Paul Stirling (c), Andrew Balbirnie, Cade Carmichael, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Matthew Humphreys, Josh Little, Tom Mayes, Andrew McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Liam McCarthy, Jordan Neill, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker

Ireland 303 -6, West Indies 179. Nice win for Ireland to get the series underway, with the help of an Andrew Balbirnie century and 50s from Paul Stirling and Harry Tector.

I expect Ireland to win the ODI series 2-1. They have never won a series against West Indies before.

Ireland win the the first game and go up 1-0.

Golden chance for the Irish boys to get a series win over Windies.

Paul Stirling has made history by becoming the first Irish cricketer to score over 10,000 international runs

He reached the milestone during the first ODI against West Indies in Dublin. After first ODI, he now has 10,017 runs across formats, including 16 centuries and 57 fifties, a strike rate of 98.10, and an average of 32.31. Since debuting in 2008, Stirling has been a consistent force at the top of Ireland’s batting order and now stands alone as the most prolific run-scorer in the country's cricket history.

West Indies really are a terrible team nowadays. No decent batters or bowlers. There needs to be some form of relegation to let them compete with teams at their level like Oman or Namibia.

England begin Brook era by hammering West Indies

England racked up 400 to begin Harry Brook's reign as captain with a comprehensive 238-run defeat of West Indies in the first one-day international at Edgbaston.

Brook, Ben Duckett and Joe Root all posted half-centuries, but the most impressive contribution came from Jacob Bethell, who struck 82 from 53 balls.

England's 400-8 after being asked to bat was the sixth time they have reached 400 in an ODI, their highest total in three years and best against a Test-playing nation since they won the World Cup in 2019.

West Indies were ordinary with the ball and would have conceded plenty more had they not taken three superb catches.

The chase was a non-event, the second half of the game little more than a procession after Saqib Mahmood ran through the West Indies top order for 3-32.

The highlight was Brydon Carse's spectacular catch at deep square leg to hold West Indies captain Shai Hope off Mahmood. The tourists were hustled out for 162 in 26.2 overs.

The lack of spectacle will matter little to England, who were desperate for any sort of victory after a wretched 18 months in white-ball cricket.

This ended a seven-match losing streak in ODIs and the series can be sealed with victory in Cardiff on Sunday.

Was certainly harder batting 2nd. But to bowl first and bowl rubbish in the PP is just poor.

38 % of deliveries by Windies in the PP were too wide on both sides. England only 19 % . Their lines were much tighter.

Windies need another pacer to partner Seales and Alzarri. Forde is not good enough

Jamie Overton ruled out of West Indies series

England and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remaining Metro Bank One-Day Internationals and the Vitality IT20s against the West Indies due to a broken right little finger.

Overton sustained the injury during England’s first Metro Bank ODI victory at Edgbaston on Thursday.

He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team.

No replacement will be added to the ODI squad.

Adding to this, the average speeds of WI frontline quicks (deliberate slower balls excluded)

Matthew Forde - 123.3 kph

Jayden Seales - 134 kph

Alzarri Joseph - 137.1 kph

This WI attack needs to risk either left armer Jediah Blades (similar pace to Seales) or Shamar Joseph and tighten their lines in the PP. Will make a massive difference.

I thought Seales was quicker. Joseph looks like a good prospect but I'm not sure how much luck he will have with injuries.

I thought Seales was quicker. Joseph looks like a good prospect but I'm not sure how much luck he will have with injuries.

Seales can clock 140 ks but average pace has never been high. Very good control at his best though.

Ideally , Shamar should be the 3rd seamer as he has pace but lack of accuracy and height (barely 5'8") makes it a tough selection for Windies.

Joseph is 28. Wouldn't call him a prospect at this stage. Been around for 8 years orso.

Do you know?

West Indies haven't won a bilateral ODI series in England since 2007. Their last such visit, in 2017, resulted in a 4-0 defeat.

Root needs 42 runs to overtake Eoin Morgan as England's leading scorer in ODIs. Another 84 will make him the first Englishman to 7000.

Roston Chase is 47 runs short of 1000 in ODIs.

West Indies fined for slow over-rate in first England ODI

Shai Hope-led West Indies have been penalised for falling an over short against England in the first ODI at Birmingham.

The West Indies have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first ODI against England, held on Thursday, May 29, in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Match Referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel imposed a five per cent fine on each player’s match fee, after Shai Hope’s team was found to be one over short of the required target at the end of the innings, once time allowances were taken into consideration.

The penalty is in line with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences. As per ICC regulations, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl within the allotted time.

West Indies captain Shai Hope accepted the sanction to the offence, with a formal hearing not deemed necessary.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Martin Saggers, along with third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.

England registered a massive 238-run win after posting 400/8 on the board, courtesy sizzling half-centuries from Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell.

In response to England's mammoth score, the West Indies were bowled out for 162, with Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton grabbing three wickets apiece.

The second ODI between the two sides commences today.
