It wasn't a personal comment, it was a metaphor. You seem intelligent enough to have realised as such, so why try to paint it otherwise. Silly.

sounds like something harbhajan would come up with :21: :P

Everyone's complaining about Lee's bat which has a silver sticker on it, thus causing the sun to glare into the fielders' eyes. Sarwan pointed it out, and the umpires are going to wrap it in duct-tape or something - cricinfo

12th man comes out to stick some tape around the bat. Sarwan looks perplexed.

The bat's still shining like a beacon out there. It really is a bit bright

12th man has brought out a white sticker for Lee's troublesome "mirror bat". It's mirrorgate out there, I tell you. He's only taped up the back of the bat, not the front. Drama of dramas

126.5 Powell to Clarke, OUT, excellent bouncer outside off, Clarke goes to fetch-and-hook it but can only top-edge it to Marshall at midwicket

MJ Clarke c Marshall b Powell 110 (187b 12x4 0x6) SR: 58.82

127.5 Sammy to Lee, 1 run, dropped him! Lee goes for a huge smack over long-off but skies it, and in comes Edwards who makes excellent ground ... but somehow the ball slipped through

Australia 415-7 after 128 overs

runs are flowing again
last 4 overs 7, 12, 9, 12 runs
Last 10 ovs 67/1 RR 6.70
Lee 63 - Johnson 29
Current partnership 65 runs, 9.1 overs, RR: 7.09 (Lee 35, Johnson 29)
Australia 479/7 (136.0 ov)

Tea time

Australia have declared - no chance for Lee to make a Test-best. West Indies need 280 to avoid the follow-on. - cricinfo

Mr rain/drizzle is performing. covers on the pitch

3.22pm Apparently play will start in 13 minutes. We don't know why it's so specific, but that's the word.

Game started. Lee bowling. The second ball swung and four leg byes leg side
WI 4-0

another swinging ball but on leg and 4 legbyes again.
Close LBW shout next ball.

0.5 Lee to Smith, no run, huge shout from Lee as Smith's rapped on the pads! Looks pretty close but I just felt it was a little high. Hawkeye suggests it would have clipped the leg-stump bail

Wii 8-0

WI 16 for 0 from 10 balls.

Is this T20 or a test match ?

with that kind of attitude no wonder they won 16 in a row twice. India can't even win 2 in a row let alone 16. :pissed:

Strange that Clark hasnt opened the bowling.

Some commentator on radio saying M Johnson with the arm so low will not get the natural swing that Bracken or Bollinger will get. It makes him one dimensional bowler.
He is not happy
WI 24-0 after 4 overs

PlanetPakistan said:
yeah he should not be opening the bowling in fact he shouldn't be in the team
yup
if ponting wants to win in india later this year, then he better go with lee and calrk combo instead of lee johnson, or he will have to pay

and i thought we had opening problems ... marshal is averaging a healthy 9.5 :O :P

Some stats on Marshall for you. He's 22, this is his third Test, and he's yet to make a first-class hundred. He has four fifties in first-class cricket...and although he can hardly get a game for Jamaica, West Indies rate him very highly
- cricinfo

Xavier marshall providing a good start, has anyone seen his innings, is he looking good?

Heard good things about him but he's been a big failiure so far.

Smith pulls an Imran Farhat.

What a horrible way to throw ur wicket away on a batting beauty.

some of his fours have been very good. I am mostly listening to radio

He's supposed to be one of those batsmen who look good but keeping falling short of expectations, this could be his day.

Didn't realize Sarwan only averages 40. I thought he was high 40s guy.

Any WI fan knows why Viv Richards doesn't commentate on TV. He comes on radio commentary as expert analyst. TV has Cozier who is good. The other two that I like Holding (is in UK) and Dujon (probably banned as he joined ICL). The TV one sounds boring

I was surprised Australia didn't bat on, to be honest.

I know this is a new ground, but Antigua in recent years has been noted for its flat, batsman-friendly surfaces. I think I also remember hearing during the last World Cup that it's the same groundsman as they had at the old ground. I would think that the Windies ought to fancy themselves to get a first innings lead against this attack.

Apparently the locals are not happy about the ground being in the middle of nowhere, hence the pitiful attendances there, both at this match, and during the World Cup. I don't know why the WICB doesn't cut its losses and move international matches back to the old ground in St. John's. My understanding is that it's still there.

Some commentators have really bad eye sight i think, or they don't see the replay's we see. Haddin just dropped a catch off Xavier's glove, it was hardly catchable because he's standing up to the stumps, but Pommie did not see it at all. He thinks haddin is playing mind games because of his reaction :))

Other than that Xaver is looking like a classy batsman. How is he averaging 14 in tests and 26 in FC?!!

I think it was a reaction to batsman not getting bowled

16.5 Clark to Marshall, no run, nearly bowled him! Well - how close was that? A little off-cutter that he left, and it was mere inches from knocking over his off stump. Haddin can't believe it

It was close to off stump but it also brushed Marshall's gloves and haddin almost caught it. Even cricinfo missed it, well nothing new there.

McGill bowls a full toss to marshall on 49* :))) he's almost a liability.

Good innings by marshall though, 50 at almost a run a ball.

Xavier Manboy Marshall gets to 50 off 57 balls :123:. His first in tests

West Indies 96/1 (22.0 ov) @ 4.36

And another one for Clarke!! Turns to be a good over for him

There are no words for that kind of batsmanship, ladies and gents.

26.6 Clarke to Morton, OUT, gone! What sort of shot was that from Morton? In the blockhole, he tried to smash it over midwicket but got a thick inside edge straight to Simon Katich at short midwicket. A careless waste of a shot

RS Morton c Katich b Clarke 2 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 40.00

Wii 105-3 after 27 overs

Clarke now has 14 test wickets and average of 19. He should move to Paksitan and he can be turned into an allrounder

They were thinking time as well as runs on the board I guess. Plus if it's overcast they probably wanted to get the quicks bowling to see if they could get any swing.

Windies stumbling btw - 3 down for 103, Sarwan and Chunderpaul at the crease.

MacGilla is a shadow of his former self - doing his best to get dropped from the side, it looks like. Chanders is totally owning him.

The swing was there but the line was not good from bowlers. Maybe Lee didn't expect that much swing???

Sarwan hits a six off MacGill
WI 121-3

They should get Symonds to bowl an over or two instead of MacGill. Play will end very soon

Lee replaces MacGill

what happened here?

34.1 Clarke to Chanderpaul, no run, a huge full toss which Chanderpaul pulls with furious intent, straight into Phil Jaques' helmet at short-leg, the ball ballooning to short midwicket. "How's that?" one wag asks

Of course, he can't be out if it hit his helmet, in case you didn't know

Good day overall. If we can get rid of one of these two early tomorrow we should be able to keep them below 250. Then post 250-odd on Day 4 and make them chase 500+ on day 5.

Whats happened to the crowds in the West Indies?

Are the stadiums empty due to high cost of tickets like during the World Cup, or is cricket a "dying" sport in the Caribbean these days, or perhaps seeing their team being outclassed is too painful for the locals to see?

lets see
aus made 479, and in WI's reply they are 125-3 with still trailing by 354
and since no credible spinner from the WI side, expect macgill and clark torun all over WI on a 4th day pitch.

10am The news is not good I'm afraid. The covers are on, there has been some rain and the drainage at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is not the best in the world. As a result we're going to have a lengthy delay this morning and the umpires will inspect the ground in an hour, at 11am local time.

11am The umpires have just made their way into the middle to have a look. The rain has stopped for the moment, although the covers are still on. There's a bit of activity among the groundstaff, mopping up with some minuscule sponges. It'll only take them about a week to get the ground in shape with that equipment. The super-sopper will make its way out there, of course, and the sky looks vaguely blue so we'll just have to wait and see what the umpires think

commentators don't have any info about start of play. I am guessing it will not start before lunch. Lunch is very important and cannot be skipped

edit: They just said rain is falling

11.30am Better news - the sun is shining, the covers are off, and there's a buzz of activity out in the middle. Play will still be some time away as the outfield will require significant work, but things are definitely looking more promising. Lunch will be taken at the normal time, at 12 noon local time

great news

11.55am The good news continues, of a sort. It's even sunnier than 25 minutes ago and we should be back with some action very soon. Hang in there

No early lunch taken. Lunch in 5 minutes :)

12.45pm An inspection is due in 15 minutes and the sun is still shining - we'll keep you updated. In the meanwhile, Stuart MacGill has announced his retirement from international cricket. - cricinfo

radio people are saying that area around pitch is okay, The boundry area needs some work

No replacement player will be sent from Australia for the next test in Barbados

commentators not happy with the drainage system. A new stadium but lacks certain things related to playing cricket. They might be digging it up soon to fix it. Water is coming out when umpires and captains press the ground. This is now mostly around boundry area. No play looks right away. super sopper is working

1.15pm Disappointing news I'm afraid. Ponting's throwing his arms around, gesticulating like mad, but he can't persuade the umpires who are still not happy that it's dry enough. It certainly looks soggy. Sarwan, meanwhile, has his arms crossed and is keeping very quiet. So, another inspection is due in one hour's time. We're in for a frustrating day, I'm afraid. Anyway - crack on, leave the scorecard open, and check back often.

:) Ponting may or may not want to start as he is the one to field or worry about the ball

Inspection due at 2:15 pm (local and USA EST)

2.20pm They're all out there, but concerns linger over the outfield. There's a groundsman with a sponge, about two-feet square, and is jumping up and down on it before wringing it out into a bucket. He could be there about a week if he has to do the whole ground. It's not quite a farce, but something approaching it. It's bright, sunny - beautiful conditions in fact - but still we wait. More news when we get it...

commentators are saying it may now be on Australians if they want to start

2.55pm Very exciting news: play will begin in 35 minutes at 3.30pm (7.30pm GMT). At last.

Absolute farce today. The groundstaff were out there with little sponges trying to mop up the outfield.

They build this fancy new stadium, but nobody obviously thought about the drainage of the ground.

Its been sunny for hours out there - ridiculous.

building of a new stadium showed they were not thinking right. A different point was brought up in WC to by commentators that stadium is far away too. Fix the ground you already have.

Well I guess they have a multi-purpose stadium now if it was not before. There is a concert and soccer match with Cuba??? here soon but you can do that in most cricket grounds as they are big enough. Waste of money and people not coming with most stands empty

Play to start 30 minutes early next two days. 9:30 start scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
Players are out. Lee to bowl

They be the laziest cheerleaders I have ever seen!!!!

radio commentator going on about officials and captains could have started this earlier. They want their 5 star hotels but when on the ground play the game. There were some wet patches but they were very far away and with only two days left and this pitch delays mean draw

Listening to the FIFA vice-Prsident (Football), Jack Warner

He said 'Cricket is DEAD in the West Indies'

WI 111 runs away from avoiding follow on
Wii 168-3 after 49 overs
Sarwan 58 - Chanderpaul 21

yea he is right.....stanford trying something, but it will take more than that

to revive cricket in the caribbean

Finally jori of wicket takers MacGill and Johnson are on together to take control of the game.
MacGill is #6 on the list of fastest 200 test wickets so Jihnson has good support
WI 182-3

And MacGill strikes. Sarwan ct at slip. brilliant catch by Clarke, diving to the right
182-4

Maybe few people there watching the rain song and dance of Lagaan movie

can bet your bottom dollar they dont know what lagaan is :19:
I thought there were quite a few Indians there. I see some radio stations in WI with Indian songs and unless there is enough population they probably wouldn't have that

yes but mostly here in trinidad, guyana, a small amount in grenada and barbados.

indian culture is more developed in trinidad and guyana......nothing much
in the other islands.

This is looking like a draw I think unless we can remove Chanderpaul. We may run out of time.

MacGill has now bowled 8 noballs and a wide. Too many for a spinner
Wi 241-4

Maybe last over coming up as 6:00 pm has passed
Bravo hits a six off MacGill
WI 248-4 - trail by 231 runs
