What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 1st Test | Sabina Park, Kingston | Apr 21-25, 2017 | Day 5

6 wickets for Yasir. Didn't think it would only take one session to end the match today.

This is after the man scoring 49 wasn't reviewed at 23 (?) .....

Excellent, this is proceeding quicker than I expected.

Great to see us able to force a result in this match despite the rain interruptions.

Great effort from pakistan . The windies batted out the whole 5th day vs india the last time around to save the test .

The CT squad is such a dampener though.

Alas, our spinners, despite being top bowlers (Ash, Jaddu and Mish),couldn't get these tailenders out.

Can't enjoy this victory after viewing the CT squad :(

Let's not take out our anger with the ODI team on the Test team.

Despite the awful winter, its still the one Pakistan team that generally selects on merit (bar Sami Aslam dropping) and has its house in order.

Let's forget the CT squad - every away Test victory is something to savour.

Sami Aslam isn't doing any wonders as far as his form is concerned in domestic cricket..

Looking at the way things are going, I won't be surprised if Hafeez and Junaid Khan make a comeback to the test team as well.

Inzi is either clueless or another one of our selectors who are worried more about filling their own pockets.

For all the comments yesterday crucifying Misbah . . His innings proving to be decisive in this test match!

West Indies v Pakistan, Georgetown 1988

West Indies 292
Pakistan 435
West Indies 172
Pakistan 32-1

This is like a repetition with vastly inferior players.

People like my much-valued friends Tusker and CricketAnalyst should be required to compare the teamsheets. By my reckoning the only 1988 player who would not walk into either team's 2017 side is Ijaz Fakih.

West Indies 1988 11/11 better than 2017.
Pakistan 1988 10/11 better than 2017.

It shows just how far batting and bowling standards have slipped. Oh well, the fielding is better now.

Shezad is such a terrible opener, I don't know how Shezad and Hafeez keeps getting selected

This is also a slap to the face of those who say Pakistan can only win Tests by winning toss, batting first and racking up 1st innings totals.

Pallekele, Edgbaston, The Oval and Jamaica Tests have shown we can beat or challenge a team via the 2nd innings.

I really feel for all those Windies fans there.

Still loyal, still patient but badly let down by abysmal administration and players who haven't done justice to their talents.

There's some promising youngsters like Hetmyer and Joseph emerging so don't lose hope.

Good point - won't talk about that WI side, but these were the PAK XI

Mudassar, Rameez
Shoaib Md., Javed, Malik, Ijaz,
Imran
Yousuf, Faqih, Wasim, Qadir

What you are saying that Azhar, YK, Babar, Amir, Misbah, Yasir & Sarfraz won't get into that team over
Rameez, Ijaz, Yousuf, Shoaib & Mudassar........ I leave Faqih, as you mentioned.

Azhar to celebrate his return to the ODI side with a solid 10(50)*. :afridi

we cant even close out a dominating performance without some embarrassment.

Another down, wth is going on. Are they really trying to make match out of this?

LOL, What has happen to Azhar, second time getting out casually :acp:

hehe. moral victory to the windies. They should have know that all they need to dismiss Pakistan is 75 runs and one session. We are forever chokers.

Reminds me of the Abu Dhabi Test in 2013 where we were 7-3 chasing 40.

Think YK and Misbah joked to each other that they may have to prevent a collapse.

Who should be man of the match

Amir 6-41
Misbah 99 not out
Yasir 6-63

Amir - he set up the match, that 6/44 was of 26 overs, in a score of 280+ @ 3+. Also, he took the most vital wicket today - 1st break through of the day, which happen to be the last recognized batsman.

Saleem Yousuf had an incredible series in the West Indies in 1988.

I would say:

Mudassar Nazar = Azhar Ali
Rameez Raja > Ahmed Shehzad
Shoaib Mohammad 88 > Babar Azam
Javed Miandad 88 > Younis 17
Saleem Malik 88 > Misbah
Ijaz Ahmed > Asad Shafiq
Saleem Yousuf 88 = Sarfraz Ahmed
Imran Khan > Mohammad Abbas
Wasim Akram > Mohammad Amir
Abdul Qadir > Yasir Shah
Ijaz Fakih < Wahab Riaz

So the only 2017 better player is.....Wahab Riaz!

My prediction is that Pakistan will win by 5 wickets and Sarfaraz will hit the winning runs.

They should have been in CT as well in place of us.

Watching Azhar and Shizzy in CT will be bloody painful.

We also have Hafeez too to insult the wounds... We would need Advil to go over CT, for Indian match 800mg might work :sanga:

Sorry have to disagree

Mudassar Nazar < Azhar Ali (purely as a opeing batsman)
Shoaib Mohammad 88 < Babar Azam (no way was Shoaib better than Babar). The only shot he was good was the defensive block.

This team has way more capability than Pakistan's squad. Just inexperience caught up to them. I hope they back their younguns because they will repay that faith.

Now, you are comparing player with the then (not career) contest, which is a bit misleading because, in that regard, I can prove one of WI opener is better than Desi Haynes or Gabriel is better than Ambrose.

May I ask now, how do you justify
Mudassar = Azhar
Rameez Raja > Ahmed Shehzad
Ijaz Ahmed > Asad Shafiq
Saleem Yousuf 88 = Sarfraz Ahmed

even Amir & Yasir looks better in respective comparison.

Good decision not to take the extra time.

No Pakistani will say no to the chance for a free lunch.

I really want the windies back to their former glory, absolutely love the flair they play the game with. Board politics keeps bringing them down. Cricket would benefit greatly.

Is these players really such dumb? They could have wrapped this before lunch - now enjoying free lunch on a ground, for last 4 days it has rained in after noon!!!!!!!

1 Mudassar was an all-round package but yes, on his last legs in 1988.

2 Ahmed Shehzad had literally never scored a Test run outside Asia until this match.

3 Ijaz tamed the West Indies and Australia. I think he really was better than Shafiq.

4 Saleem Yousuf (and Shoaib Mohammad) had career-defining series in the West Indies in 1988. Against the best opposition - away - they really rose to the task.

No extra half hour?

Has Younis Khan lost his mind? With thunderstorms hitting other parts of the island?

I wanted to bring you exactly to this point - if Shoaib Md. is better than Babar for his career defining blocking, why you have put Malik (Salim) over Misbah, who has won this Test with bat? :)

Lightning struck twice. Shoaib had a second great World Championship series v West Indies!

Watching this Curtly Ambrose masterclass on Sky Sports.

Man Curtly is effortlessly cool. Was so intimidating back in the day.

Don't shift goal post - Shoaib had a series average of 37, Malik 29 & Rambo Raja 25.

If you go by career, YK, Misbah, Yasir walks in that team. If you go by contemporary performance, probably Amir, Asad as well - in any case YK & Azhar always.

I decided to post here, for your nauseating hate for Misbah & YK - which ended in Ramiz & Ijaj being picked over them. Icing on the cake was to discard Azhar .......................

That's an impressive team barring Raja and Fakih.

Just checked Shoaib only came good in the 3rd test in Barbados where he scored a couple of 50s. Other than that he had an average series.

Pakistan could have won the test had it not been for some dubious umpiring decisions.
