What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Bridgetown, Barbados | Apr 30-May 4, 2017 | Day 4

How good is this Shai Hope? To show such defense on such a wicket against 2 quality leg spin bowlers takes some doing.

So everyone was raving about Shadab's ability to spin the ball much much more than Yasir . . How is it that on a 4th day pitch, Yasir is spinning the ball so much more than Shadab?

its not about spin , its about getting the ball to consistently in right areas. Shadab has been either too full or too short. In short , not ready.

That's what happens when Inzi decides to select an 18 year old kid for test match cricket on the back of PSL. Prior to this match he had only played 4 FC games.

Well done Inzi

Yasir Shah is nowhere near as good as he is rated here

Ashwin was getting wickets for fun against these batsmen

Shadab selection is debacle from the selectors and management.

Shadab will never be your front line spinner, good enough for LOIs and an all rounder option in Test cricket.

and he does not have luxury of using rough patch either like Yasir.

well Waqar did say the replaced ball would have reversed more and they should not have gone for a change..

I am not an expert on this topic and could be wrong. I am going by what I think is the physics of a swinging ball, and a not round ball will be constantly disturb the streamline flow around it.

Maybe Waqar was referring to the fact that the older ball also had a rougher surface (difference in roughness of the two sides is also needed for swing).

I agree that he has been very inconsistent! But, I am just talking about the spin . . he is not getting half the spin that Yasir is

I've stopped watching, is he still bowling THAT line? I just do not understand this. He was just as negative against the Aussies, said it was his fault which means he understands why the line is wrong and yet...he is bowling like it again. Can't Misbah have a word? Or another so called senior?

He's aiming for the rough outside the right-hander's leg-stump.

It's the obvious thing to do but the batsmen are playing him well.

Shadab is trying the same thing but he doesn't have Yasir's consistency.

Plus Shadab is being massively mishandled by Misbah! THe fields he is being asked to bowl to as well as the fact that he is being asked to bowl defensive lines by bowling around the wicket . . its quite stupid

We should have played Asghar here. Would have added a lot of variety.

Shadab still doesn't have Yasir's drift/guile/spin. Simply put, he's not ready yet. He will come good in few years though.

We should attack with our 2 best bowlers in Amir and Yasir. Or get Babar in for a couple of overs. Try something different.

I share the sentiment too. Yasir indeed is massively overrated. This pitch has all the help he could ask for, and still he is struggling with West Indian batsmen.

Misbah must be kicking himself for selecting Shadab, a total liability right now. His game isn't fully developed yet

There are like three 4 dark patches in the rough and shadab has failed to hit them , hence less spin than yasir. He has got same amount of spin from over the wicket , just too inconsistent.

Why not give them benefit of doubt? Wet Indies batsman have not come to just lay down and gift wickets to Yasir.

Gabriel is quick and holding is very tall

Windows need another 50 runs and that the game done

Very poor tactics by the captain , consistently using using yasir from around the wicket with no results.

Yeah, it's why I didn't get carried away with all the Shadab hype about how much he turned it or omg he has a googly! There's only been a handful of spinners in the history of the game that have come in at a young age and belonged at test level.

Ashwin could not get last 6 wickets on day 5 in West Indies last year. You're severely undermining West Indies in their home conditions. They're not as bad as they look.

In the same match, he did pick 5/50 on Day 1 pitch. Just that the pitched turned into a spinner's graveyard as the match progressed.

No one does at international level. On this pitch, I expect him to run through the West Indian line up.. irrespective of how much fight they show.

He still can. Just needs some spark. Many balls seem to fall just short of close in fielders.

Sometimes its good to appreciate batsmen too.
Hope is playing a gem.
Ashwin etc wouldnt have done much against Hope. 5 FC centuries and 2 double centuries on the same ground for Hope.

If they did get out with a lead of 200, I wonder who would be happier, us or them? We may be better off if they gave us 300 to chase in two sessions, instead of 200 to chase in three.

Exactly , pakistan would want them to spend as much time possible in the middle.

This elusive series win in the WI has been tormenting us for decades now. I still remember the 2000 iteration: some of the most atrocious umpiring stole it from us. I still fume at some of those decisions... and Saqlain's missed run-outs.

only 4 FC matches? get out of here. I cant believe Inzi is so unprepared. Is he working for free?

No joke.. Shadab has only played 4 FC matches and has picked 24 wickets at an average of 26. Very, very early to give him a debut, but Inzi true to his track record messed up.

Well, WI have played well here. Need to trust that the Pakistani boys can play equally as well, if not better. Though, the debacles in NZ and AUS where we were wiped out on the last day of the test match doesn't inspire much confidence.

Frankly speaking Pakistan performance has been very scratchy , they will not be able to compete against better teams.

pakistan lack good new ball bowlers , and this has hurt them many times , but they refuse to change.

I understand what he's trying to do but it's a tactic that takes away the lbw from the right hander and the batsmen can keep pushing out at the ball and get the odd isngle here and there. With the type of field I saw earlier, with just a single line...it's negative and the batsmen can get used to it. Heck, they can even leave a lot of the deliveries or push out with their legs.

It's an absolute waste by whoever is setting those feilds and we've seen it with the WI batsmen stretching the lead. Theo nly hope now is that the new ball is used effectively (already a couple of missed drives) and the slips hang onto their catches.
