What changes would you like to see for Pakistan's next Asia Cup Super 4 game against Sri Lanka on 14 September?
 
What I would like to see? As if anyone will listen. But here goes

1. Fakhar
2. Harris (wk)
3. Imam
4. Babar
5. Saud

(At least you have a solid 3,4,5)

6. Imad (flown in on an emergency basis)
7. Faheem
8. Shadab (last chance saloon boy)
9. Amir (flown in on an emergency basis)
10. Shaheen
11. Uncle Noman (10 overs of lockdown uncle please)

Ah well it’s worth a try giving ideas isn’t it?

Also, I would like the management to change their attitude for once and apologise to Sarfaraz. He was unfairly scapegoated
 
Fakhar is done and duster. Too bad this means we will not have any aggressive top order batsman but it is what it is. To compensate I would drop Rizwan also.

Fakhar, Shadab & Salman deserve to be dropped after their trash display throughout this Srilanka fixture.Salman should be dropped from the wc squad. Also if they don't want to embarrass themselves any further they need to include Imad in the wc squad & discard one of Usama /Nawaz (who ever ends up bowling more trash). Similarly they need to bring one of Jamal/Ihsanullah/Zaman in place of Faheem /Wasim. Finally if Haris performs he should be preferred over Rizwan. The dude needs to sort out all those irritating issues he regularly puts on display. I don't think Pak can chase down 250+ against Srl, so best option is either bat first or restrict them within 220-230. This is a much needed timely reality check they got just at the right occasion. They were getting unnecessarily arrogant for bulling some lower ranked teams & third string teams of the upper tier nations. As of right now, Ind,Aus, Nz & Eng; all are better than them when they field their main eleven.
 
Being realistic we need to change openers.
Rizwan and imam to open followed by babar
Fakhar out saud in.
Rest is same

Sri Lanka look really good and will run rings round our batsmen. Every one of our batsmen is picking the spinners off the pitch, which will be even more lethal against the Lankan duo Theekshana and Wellalage.

I don’t see Pakistan winning this game, sorry. Add to the lack of skills the fact that they just got mauled to the ground by a decent Indian side, who have plenty of weakness’ themselves.

Saud for Agha. This batting lineup needs another actual batter. Rizwan, Iftikhar, Agha, Faheem are all #6 / #7 batters.

I find Fakar is one fearless batter in Pak line up, why dismantle him? With the gift Pakistanis have, do still they wanna bring the cheater Amir into the fold? I am surprised! Also Imam is quite consistent on the top, his S/R may be on a bit lower side, but does anyone in Pak top order has a rave S/R, except Fakar, may be
 
Realistically, the most changes that I can see happening is swap Iftikhar for Saud and Faheem for Waseem Jr.

Fakhar isn't fearless. He's the only player in the pak team who can score massive totals like 150+, that much I'll agree with.

But he isn't fearless nor is he a striker. I've seen the guy play innings like 13 of 34 and get dismissed. Fakhar, Babar, Imam, Rizwan are all accumulators, only difference is fakhar actually has a 4th and 5th gear. Bad news is, he's significantly worse at being consistent then those 3 even struggling against 2nd string attack.

Babar, Imam and rizwan struggle against 1st string but atleast they stat pad against 2nd string.
 
None of the changes that we want will happen. Except babar to just drop faheem and go back to nawaz and thats about it. We can use tayyab now due to Injury but that won't happen, Babar will never allow it.

But ideally

4) Faheem
5) Agha
6) Fakhar


^^ All these boys need to go, with rizwan being given one final run to prove himself against A string sides, if he fails this Asia cup or of everything gets rained put then drop him. Haris and sarfraz should be enough.

Saud needs to be slotted at no 4, Abdullah at opening, tayyab at no 5, Imad and haris at 6 and 7.

Abrar + our trio + one genuine pacers in the form of ihsanullah and zaman is needed
 
The selectors simply refuse to learn from mistakes. How can you not have at least couple of genuine spinners ? There is simply no excuse. They have given too many chances to players like Agha , Iftikhar , Khusdil , Asif etc. You need proper middle order batters ! In OD you need specialists , by playing bits and pieces you are weakinng both batting and bowling.
 
Only changes should be Salman Agha & Shadab but given his close relationship with Babar, this is next to impossible. For the World Cup, Saud Shakeel is a basic requirement as is a hard hitting batsman to partner with Iftikhar. Both Harris & Asif are serial failures and I am not sure if there’s a domestic talent that can play this role.

For major changes, Pakistan will most likely make wholesale changes after the World Cup, as it has traditionally done. Before then, fans shouldn’t expect any drastic changes.
 
Sri Lanka will come in "fresh" for an Asia Cup Super Four clash against an Indian team likely to be playing for a third consecutive day, their coach said Monday.

India's match against arch-rivals Pakistan spilt over into a reserve day on Monday after only 24.1 overs, with the 50-over contest acting as a prelude to their big battle in the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Dasun Shanaka's Sri Lanka, who won the last edition of the Asia Cup -- played in the T20 format -- began their Super Four with a win over Bangladesh on Saturday. Another victory would improve their chances of making the final on September 17.

"With a team like India, you never know, but obviously they are playing three days in a row," assistant coach Naveed Nawaz told reporters. "We have got a bit of a break since the last game, so the boys are fresh for tomorrow. That can be good for us."

Sri Lanka remain unbeaten in the tournament after winning both their group matches while India are still searching for their first win in the Super Four stage.

"If we plan to play good cricket, if we execute our plans and go into the best version of ourselves in the middle against India -- obviously the result will be favourable for us," Nawaz said.

Only India have won more Asia Cup titles than Sri Lanka, who have often spoiled the India-Pakistan party in the final.

In the last edition, they beat Pakistan to lift the title in Dubai.

"Our boys are very resilient when it comes to handling pressure," said Nawaz, pointing out that Sri Lanka have been without some of their first-choice players in the past two editions of the tournament.

One name to watch out for is up-and-coming fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.

The 20-year-old has made an impression with his slinging action and toe-crushing yorkers similar to his hero Lasith Malinga.

Pathirana shone for MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings as they captured this year's Indian Premier League title.

"I am sure MS and Chennai would have played a part in his development, but Pathirana is a product of Sri Lanka cricket," said Nawaz, when asked about Dhoni's part in brushing up Pathirana.

"He has played two Under-19 World Cups with us, he has been an identified product, and he has been in the development programmes of Sri Lanka Cricket."

Our NRR is below Bangladesh. We may end up 4th in super 4. We are actually out of Asia Cup. Just give opportunity to Shafiq, Tayub, Haris, Zaman, Wasim and Nawaz
 
Get rid of Faheem first. I'm critical of Jadeja and Shardul but Jadeja is a great Test cricketer and Shardul is useful in certain conditions and phases. This guy makes them look like Flintoff and Shane Watson.

Utterly fraudulent cricketer. Batting average of 10 and bowling average of 91 against India,NZ,SA,OZ,ENG. Pathetic player. Adds nothing to the team. Inzamam should be perma-banned from PCB for just this selection.

Don't put too much faith in Saud Shakeel. His spin-playing ability is limited to Tests only. He can't hit over the top and good bowling sides won't allow him to milk the bowling and will cut off his scoring areas. Average List A record, poor T20 record.

Forget about Abdullah too. Hardly played any List A games and his T20 record is strictly OK.

Tayyab Tahir has been the highest run scorer in 2 out of last 3 Pakistan Cups and he has opened and batted at 4. Also looks like a clutch player since he performed in Pakistan Cup final and in Emerging Asia Cup final, his spin hitting won the match. Also, he has an average of 38 and strike rate of 138 against spin in the PSL. He should be an obvious selection ahead of Abdullah and Saud Shakeel.

Play Rizwan at 5 and Tayyab at 4.

That's where you're wrong, I 100% agree about tayyab, we need genuine middle order batsmen, but you are wrong about saud and Abdullah.

Saud and Abdullah do not have any technical weaknesses hence they have a ridiculous high ceiling. In the SL test we'd have suffered an embarrassing loss if saud and Abdullah didn't rescue us single handedly.

Abdullah was struggling due to lack of confidence, something he regained during the test series whereas fakhar not only lost his form, he is a limited player.

Imam can't play lofted shots for the life of him, Babar is atrocious on playing the spin with back foot, hence he gets lbw to straight spin deliveries, nor is babar good at innovating with sweep or coming down the track. Rizwan is a dancer at the crease lol. Fakhar's stance doesn't let him play anything angling away or into him, he can only play leg side or pullshots or drives if the ball is overpitched aka very very limited player.

Saud and Abdullah don't have these issues. Saud over the course of when I have watched him has improved to the point that he went from being a wall to a genuinely good striker and achieving a 200 at a quick pace for test standards something our world no 1 can't do, sane with Abdullah. Saud also plays lofted shots lol, unlike imam who can't, he just needs to improve timing but his game awareness allows him to find gaps and play safe.

These 2 along with saim ayub have an extremely extremely extremely high ceiling, far far higher then Babar even, Sachin and pointing and other ATG weren't made in a day, they use to suck when they appeared.

Players need to be groomed, not played as water boys or played out of position to accommodate nepotsitic shezadei like rizwan or shan massod which is something pakistan has been doing for years. Shoving umar akmal at no 6 when he was clearly a no 3 accumulator with a 4th and 5th gear, just to accommodate asad shafiq.

Removing sami aslam just for the sake of ahemed shezad. Removing sohaib maqsood who burst onto the scene with 4 half centuries at no 3 and 4 and randomly Shoving them into no 6 or 7.

Theirs a reason these guys became has beens. They had talent, they just got shoved in wrong position while nepotsitic players got higher position and then they had to change their whole game and not stick to their natural positions. That affected their mentality and changed the way they played, and hence caused them to just go out of form for life and never get groomed.

Saud and Abdullah and tayyab shall go the exact same route if pakistan keeps this up, which they have been doing for years.

Technical Schnechical is all irrelevant. Abdullah and Saud just don't have the numbers in white ball cricket even at domestic level. Even then , they have not shown the mentality, intent and skill to counter attack when under pressure even in Tests. They did well in Lanka when PAK were already on top. Pakistan need a good counter attacking spin hitter at 4 and in that Emerging Asia Cup final, he put India A spinners under tremendous pressure and was the only batsman who could hit them out of the park in the whole tournament - no one else from PAK or even likes of Soumya Sarkar could not do that.

Abdullah and Saud will be in the Babar, Imam mould of batsmen at best. Good when PAK get to good starts but will not counter-attack.

Faheem Ashraf is a big blunder. How can anyone with that kind of record be near the national team ? Setting ??
Playing a medium pace bowling AR just for the sake of it is totally wrong. Nawaz is a better bowler and with more experience will start to deliver. Imad is another option that can be utilised. Avg of 42 with s/r of 112 is as good as any world class batter at no. 6.

Bhai, apart from Saim Ayub and Tayyab Tahir nobody should even be considered in the ODI squad currently.

ODI batting has a different rhythm to it and you need to bat in 50 overs cricket to get it. Saud Shakeel last played 50 overs cricket consistently way back in 2021. Abdullah Shafique has played 7 List A matches and has not impressed.
Picking players based on T20's and Tests won't work in ODI's.

Even great ODI players like Stokes and Root were struggling fluency because they have played mostly T20's and Tests in the last 4 years and you want random unproven guys suddenly in the World Cup squad? You might as well try to win the lottery.

At least Saim and Tayyab have done well in Pakistan Cup and in Emerging Asia Cup final. Saim is doing well in CPL as well.

It is time to respect the ODI format. Too many selectors and fans think it's either a shortened Test match or a lengthy T20.


Even extraordinary talents like Brook are finding the transition to ODI's hard despite doing well in the Hundred and in Tests . You have to back guys who have done well playing 50 overs and not other formats.

Already advocated for saim and tayyab, I've been advocating them since I got here lol.

You're misunderstanding what in saying, all the things you talked about aren't relevant to what I stated at all. Let me try to explain things differently

Do you wanna know why imam and Babar are the same mould players that you claimed? Because their limited players. Our fans just don't want to admit that Mr No 1 is technically flawed. Their good accumulators but that's about it.

Imam has zero technique when it comes to actually playing boundary scoring shots, he has an extremely extremely limited range, the same back foot nudge against spin, and the drives and cuts and backfoot play begins the wicketkeeper angling to the point fielder.

Babar is bad against spin because he lacks the ability to come forward and attack aka lacking footwork, he lacks the ability to play on the backfoot and he isn't good at premediating the sweep shot because he's not good at reading spin. Similarly against fast bowling while opening he does struggle against inswing due to getting stuck on the front foot.

These are genuinely technical limitations. When Babar first debuted he didn't even have any single taking or six hitting ability, hence although he developed it, these strokes don't come as naturally to him as the cover drive does.

The world's ATG all were technically great. Sachin, pointing, Viv Richards, none of these lads had any limitations, you'd never see pointing get stuck on the front foot against spin. It's the same with kholi, Kholi can naturally play am array of shots, he comes down the wicket usually to counter swing which is why he handles our pacers well, His front foot and back foot play is perfect. It's why kholi keeps developing and developing.

The best players have 3 great qualities.

A) No technical limitation: No technical limitations means that they may have other issues like timing or game awareness but they can be improved, not like fakhar who will continue to struggle against anything that angles away from him forever.

B) Fearless: They don't care about their milestone, they care about the team and aren't afraid of any bowler, something Babar doesn't do since he slows down for his legendary milestones.

C) willingness to learn: They don't consider themselves the best, they look ti improve every day. Babar has this quality, Imam, Rizwan, and fakhar don't.

Saud and Abdullah have a higher ceiling cause I watched them during the test series. They have zero technical limitations and at the very least were pretty fearless, they didn't slow down for their milestone, kept playing according to the 4 runs per over which is the usual in test.

In the Sri lanka series we were not in a superior position, we collapsed and were getting smashed. It's Abdullah 200 + Saud 200's and one surprising once in a blue moon contribution by agha that won us the game lol, imam and Babar did nothing and Babar was hasranga's bunny lol.

Saud plays lofted strokes, unlike imam who doesn't have any, him not being able to clear the boundary is a timing issue, not a technical limitation. Something that he can develop.

Saim, Saud, and Abdullah do not have any technical limitations hence their overall ceiling is genuinely higher then Babar, Imam, Fakhar and rizwan and hence they have the potential to become ATG if and only if PCB actually grooms them. All the afromentioned strike rate problems etc can be improved. It can't with imam because he genuinely has a technical limitstion of having zero shots and won't improve, same with Babar, Babar will never dominate spin or fast even if his life depended on it. Just dominate medium and accumulate against spin and fast.

Saim, Saud and Abdullah have a much much much higher ceiling then Babar and imam and can become ATG. But let's be honest

Babar, Rizwan and Imam ain't going anywhere until they retire. I don't mind babar and imam and rizwan. I mind all 3 of them playing at once. Do what ecb did in 2019, Have one Joe root type player aka Babar accumulate while other proper High technical player and genuine future ceilings play around him and build an England level team.

That won't happen due to our pcb loving technically flawed accumulators and bits and pieces legends.
 
I don't think we have much choice. Drop Fakhar, open with Rizwan and Imam. Mohammed Wasim plays over Faheem. Maybe bring in guys like Zaman Khan, Ishanullah if some other pacers are injured and can't play.

Asia cup has been a disaster for us sadly. Just the injuries alone last match aren't worth even winning the tournament. And even if we qualify for the final with the injuries and just the mental boom we received from last match I can't see us winning it.
 
Lol Wellalage will destroy us. Hope for rain so we can atleast say we got 3 points guys.

Sri Lanka is a serious team when their first teamers are back.

Hasaranga and Wellalage will be an absolute nightmare on Indian pitches.

Your line up has 3 bits and pieces ( آدھا تیتر آدھا بٹیر) players , 6 to 8 -- bring this down to 1 only -- you want to win games, bring in a specialist spinner+ a Solid opening batsman (Fakhar out) + a Solid accumulator at number 5 (Saud Shakeel).

So when Rizwan fails as an opener (he will), what then?

2) Imam ul Haq
Left /Right combination
3) Babar Azam
4) Saud Shakeel (need a solid batsman @4)
5) Rizwan
6) Iftikhar
7) so called Utility Player depending on the pitch.
8) Waseem
9) Usama Mir ( is he a genuine spinner? )

Cannot disagree with this...with the turning pitch we are seeing right now, the utility player should be Nawaz but doubt they will drop Shadab...

Might as well try it. See if he fails or not. Didn't exactly take him long to perform in the T20 opening spot once he got the chance though.

Scoring 50s off 40 balls is not exactly performing. Regardless of how consistent they are

Wellalage is going to eat our batsmen alive so the team management should come up with out-of-the-box thinking to neutralize him.

I would suggest opening with Babar and Rizwan as they can play the fast bowlers well and have Fakhar and Imam in the middle overs to neutralize Wellalage.

Babar and Rizwan will not be able to play when he's spinning the ball away from them prodigiously.

Agha Salman needs more chances so I’d keep him..

Chachu has to go and his century vs Nepal means nothing.. Saud to replace him

Shadab also had to go in place of Usama Mir
 
I would drop anyone but Fakhar. He's been off but he's the only guy who plays with positive intent regardless even if it's a short burst. We need that intent badly in WC or else batting will be filled with our usual minnow bashers. Fakhar will come good.

Mohammed Haris must be included as well as he's the one who took Pakistan to final in T20 WC, his positive approach and going after the ball hard early is the type of players we desperately need!
 
First of all change of attitude is neccessary for Pak Team.

After that i wil recommend to drop fakhar and Agha Salman and pick Abdullah Shafiq and Saud Shakeel.
 
I would replace Fakhar with M Haris..Haris cant do worse than Fakhar recently

Plus Saud Shakeel should be in for Iftikhar..but since Salman wouldnt be fit for Srilanka game, then in place of Agha Salman

Realistic changes:

Rauf and Naseem will need to be replaced. Zaman khan and Usama Mir in for these two.

Saud Shakeel in for Salman Agha

Harris in for Fakhar

You need a left hander to neutralise him. Pak need all of their left handers in the next game. I genuinely mean this

how many left handers we have in the squad other than Saud, Imam, Nawaz and Fakhar.

I am sure they wont go with nawaz.
 
Tayyab Tahir may not be a bad shout. What the hell is going on with Haris Sohail, any chance hel be fit for World Cup

The only fearless batsman in this whole squad is Mohammad Haris and that's partly because of age and naiveté. But he's not getting selected as long as Rizwan is there.

the whole batting looks terrible and weak on paper, our No 6 batsman is always an allrounder on paper but never really a genuine allrounder, its the position to hide a player seems like. Instead of Iftikhar, NAwaz or Shadab need to play as actual allrounders who bat at 6 and bowl because of neither of them warrant a place as just occasional bowling allrounders. I do think their batting is good enough to bat 6/7 and they can leave out Iftikhar who never does well against quality opposition

Sufyan Muqeem at international level will have to be forced off after 1-2 overs faking a concussion injury
 
Fakhar, Agha will be dropped for Abdullah Shafiq and Saud. Zaman and Wasin J will replace the two injured bowlers
