What was the last film you watched? (V2.0)

Tim Burton’s The night before Christmas, surprisingly I never watched this before absolutely remarkable and creative 9/10

I’m not a Burton fan particularly, but the animation in this one is very quirky and impressive.

Agree , it’s still a good movie by today’s standards and it came in 1993!

I like many Burton’s movies, Edward scissor hands was special as it was the first english movie i saw as a kid when India got an english movie channel in mid 1990s

Everything Everywhere All at Once, remarkable movie 9.5/10

The best after Parasite that I have seen , amazing storyline but the real magic was direction absolutely brilliant with a simple storyline
.
Looks like multiverse concepts are taking over movies but this is the best on multiverse.

It’s definitely amazing a must watch.

Unfortunately there is no release info for the UK, but am not surprised by another gem from A24!

Going to look out for this but looking forward to The Northman at the end of the month, that should be seriously good

Re-watched Inception again after a couple of years. Remembered why it's one of my favourite ever films.

Hustle.

After a down-on-his-luck basketball scout discovers an extraordinary player abroad, he brings the phenom back without his team's approval.

Very good film 7.5/10

Halloween Kills

They still keep coming. Will he ever die?

Michael Myers escapes Laurie's trap and tries to reach her, killing people on his way. On the other hand, Laurie finds support in a group of survivors of his previous rampages.

5/10

Just watched “Tenet” again.

I think it is a grower.

Prescient references to climate change and a potential apocalypse, and the drastic steps that generations in the future may take to try and reverse this.

John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Sir Michael Caine are all excellent in it.

Kenneth Branagh meanwhile comes across a bit hammy and stereotypical, but is still entertaining and effective.

The visual effects are fantastic! Highly inventive.

8/10.

9/10 to Crimes of the Future. The latest film from David Cronenberg. It's his return to the body horror sub-genre that he popularized with films like Dead Ringers, The Fly, Videodrome and eXistenZ.

Somewhat effed up. Might not be everyone's cup of tea. But personally I loved it.

For people who are familiar with his films, I would describe it as eXistenZ meets Crash.

Midnight in the Switchgrass

Based on the true story of Texas' most dangerous serial killer with the dramatization translocated to Florida. FBI agent Karl Helter and his partner, Rebecca Lombardo, are very close to busting a sex-trafficking ring. When they realize their investigation has crossed the path of a brutal serial killer, they team up with Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent Byron Crawford who has years on this case. When Rebecca herself is abducted by their target and her life hangs in the balance, Byron has precious few hours to piece together the last clues and put an end to the infamous "Truck Stop Killer".

It was ok, could have been better, but not the worst.

5/10

Few short films from netflix anthology love death and robots.

Jibaro
Bad travelling
The witness
Sonnie's edge.

Jibaro & Bad travelling are brilliant if you have half an hour to spare do watch both of them. Other are decent one time watch for their animation and suspense.

Animation is so amazing in these short films. Jibaro and the witness had awesome surreal feel. Would love to see full length animated film like that.

They are very good, if hyperviolent.

My favourite is Zima Blue, a nice story about art and self-discovery.

Re-watched Inception again after a couple of years. Remembered why it's one of my favourite ever films.

Watched it twice now. Found it unsatisfying both times. That interminable action sequence just gets boring after a while.

If I had a “militarised subconscious” it would be a lot scarier than a few gunmen.

I can take or leave Nolan. Interstellar and Dunkirk are my favourites from him because they have a heart instead of just big ideas.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw.

Stars Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson

One for fans of Saw. Not in the class of Saw but a decent watch

5/10

Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse Madness

3/10 - Well there was madness, sadly not the good kind of madness. It was madness in the plot. The story was so predictable you could have mapped the entire move out after first 20 mins.

I am really starting to get bored of these superhero movies because they get all the attention and make all the money which means genuinely good stories/scripts which are waiting to be made into movies can't because these big production companies will only invest in marvel/dc etc.

The Black Phone

Serial killer/supernatural/horror. Enjoyable flick this. Defo worth a watch.

Some cinemas have banned young people wearing suits from screenings of Minions: The Rise of Gru over rowdy behaviour fuelled by a TikTok trend.

Teenagers following the #gentleminions trend have been accused of making noise and throwing things during screenings.

A staff member at one venue told the BBC they wanted to ensure the experience was not spoiled for younger children on their first cinema trip.

Some cinemas said they have had to give huge numbers of refunds.

Videos showing young people dressing up in suits to watch the movie in large groups and cheering loudly during the screening have gone viral on TikTok, racking up millions of views in some cases.

The teenagers filmed themselves copying the characteristic steepled fingers of the movie's supervillain Felonious Gru and celebrated that "the five year wait is over" - referring to the time since the franchise's last instalment, Despicable Me 3.

Movie studio Universal Pictures endorsed the trend, saying on Twitter: "to everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you".

But cinemas have been less appreciative, with several complaining about the behaviour of the young fans drawn to the movie by TikTok.

Guernsey's only cinema had to cancel further screenings of the movie, blaming "stunningly bad behaviour", including vandalism, throwing objects and abusing staff.

Mallard Cinema manager Daniel Phillips-Smith said: "It's been absolutely heartbreaking. We've had families who won't even go back into the screen when we've tried to sort it out, families leaving before the film has even started, and of course the children have been in tears."

The cinema had suffered a "massive" financial impact from all the refunds for customers' whose viewing of the film had been disturbed, he said.

The Regal Cinema in Wadebridge, Cornwall, posted a notice saying it would no longer admit "unaccompanied children wearing suits" to screenings of the movie.

Box office staff told the BBC young people in suits had been "cheering, clapping, whooping" and rising to their feet throughout the film.

"We were trying to talk to people on the way in after a while, but that wasn't really getting anywhere.

"So we had to just decide to put a stop to it and say thanks very much, but we're not doing the whole TikTok trend thing," a staff member said.

"We had people coming in with children for their first cinema trip ever and we wanted to protect that, really."

Images on social media showed several Odeon cinemas displaying signs warning customers: "Due to recent disturbances following the #GentleMinions trend, any group of guests in formal attire will be refused entry for showings of Minions: The Rise of Gru."

But some cinemagoers praised the behaviour of the #gentleminions at their screenings.

Stace Woods, a teaching assistant from Surrey, said on social media that a group in suits when she saw the film were "so much fun" and "so well-behaved", adding they politely stopped bowing down and worshipping a giant poster of Gru so her children could pose for a photo with it.

One parent told the Mansfield Chad the ban on young people in suits had extended to two boys in his 13-year-old son's group, who were merely wearing white shirts with collars.

They were reportedly turned away from their pre-booked screening until parents could drive down with a couple of jumpers to cover the offending items of smart clothing.

A spokesperson for the Odeon said: "Due to a small number of incidents in our cinemas over the weekend we have had to restrict access in some circumstances."

The Vue cinema chain said it was still welcoming all customers to see the film, which had been "incredibly popular" over the opening weekend.

The Minions movie franchise, which began with 2010's Despicable Me, follows reformed supervillain Gru and his army of small, yellow henchmen, who quickly became the subject of endless online memes.

The latest film tells Gru's origin story as an 11-year-old, struggling to break into the supervillain business.

Interceptor - 4/10

Amateur acting. What could have been a great movie about USA's interceptor missiles programme turned out to be dull.

Minions 7.5/10 retains its humor but they need to do something more now.

Thor 7/10 overall, definitely a family movie , made esp for kids , which kind of makes it different from others.

Elvis- 8/10, one of the best first halves i have seen in a while, second half is great too but falls below due to amazing first half.

The direction will defn inspire other biopics, such crisp direction.

Man from Toronto 7/10, could had been better , climax was amazing though.

Tenet.

Incomprehensible dialogue. Tried it with subtitles. Gave it 35 minutes before I switched off out of boredom.

biggest let down of the lockdown cinema era, i remember my freinds and I booking a place right after the lockdowns were over.

dont remember what i gave it out of ten at the time, but whatever it was the score was only for elizabeth debicki

Lads… I like this one

Boiling Point. A 90 minute 1-take high-stress depiction of a very busy night in a high-end restaurant led by a head chef played by Stephen Graham. Brilliant and sad. 8/10

Devil[/] by M Night Shylaman. I put it on instead of Tenet. Quite enjoyable, am giving it 5/10.

Prey

I was not sold going by the trailers but this is a surprisingly very good Predator prequel. Small in scale yet epic. Definitely the best one since Arnie’s. 7/10

Have you watched his movie The Visit? pretty good and interesting take on the found footage genre, one of the best

Agreed. The trailers made it look like some 10000bc claptrap, do you remember that shocker? But it was good. I was hoping they would have left some post credit short sequence leading up to a sequel or another Predator prequel. It didn't have the suspense as the original but it never felt long. 6/10 for me.

Tenet is a case of Nolas trying to outsmart the audience but actually ending up outsmarting himself. Given his CV I think it's fair to say it's a mistake and he'll learn from it.

The gray man. (Netflix)

Screenplay and direction by the Russo Brothers (Avengers, Captain America)

Pure action movie fun. Awesome fun all round. No need to invest in the story, just enjoy the bullets, explosions, and action sequences. The city centre gun fight is legendary technical show case material.

8/10

The wife and daughter forced me to watch Elvis last night and I'm glad they did.
Enjoyed it. Really well directed and the acting was absolutely superb.
Tom Hanks almost stole the show.

Not seen that one. Old Night is a bit hit-and-miss these days though I loved his early work. Will keep an eye out.

Le Mans ‘66

I enjoyed it a lot. Three hours flew by. Bale is one of our very best movie actors. A slice of sixties corporate life reminiscent of Mad Men, with fascinating motor racing history. Matt Damon in good form as the legendary engineer Caroll Shelby, and I enjoyed Jon Bernthal’s turn as Ford’s coming man Lee Iacocca.

Quite reminded me of The Right Stuff with cars instead of spacecraft, and Ford vs Ferrari instead of NASA vs. CCCP.

9/10

It did very well at the box office.

I remember thinking - I can’t understand a word of dialogue, he has buried the sound files, and oh look now he has crashed a 747, trying too hard to early, yawn, switch over.

I managed 20mins of Tenet. Nolan needs to move on from time based genre. It’s boring nowZ

Also, I don’t understand Nolan’s fascination with loud banging music where you can barely make out the dialogue…TDKR is another example of this.

RED DRAGON (2002)
A prequel to The Silence of The Lambs. Quite an entertaining thriller!

He loves Hans Zimmer! I did like the sparce organ score of Interstellar and the grinding roar of Dunkirk which added to the oppressive atmosphere.

Nolan’s next movie - Oppenheimer - is a biographical movie. Should be great.

There is an article on Nolan and how he pushes the boundaries of acoustics. Nolan films requires a specific sound setup. Your standard TV stereo will not suffice.

It’s actually worse at the cinema. Dunkirk gave me a banging headache.

Mmm, a very different take on Lecter from Brian Cox.

Another version of this movie titled "MANHUNTER" was released in 1986. I haven't watched it yet but it did receive favourable reviews. Btw, I found Red Dragon slight better than the acclaimed 'Silence of The Lambs'.

Yup, MANHUNTER...that's the Brian Cox movie u r referring to. Will watch it in the weekend.

I believe Red Dragon is a remake of Manhunter.

And it’s nowhere as good as Silence Of The Lambs. That movie is a masterpiece.

Ah yes, quite so. Manhunter was better IMO. Red Dragon just seemed like a cash-in.

Thanks for your input. It's been a long time since I watched The Silence of the Lambs. I'll re-watch it again once I'm done watching MANHUNTER.

Bullet Train 9/10.

My fav of the summer, action packed brilliant humor and storyline loved it.

Excellent Japanese baxkground.

Boiling Point.

Done in one take, kind of a gritty drama-thriller that unfolds in real time: things bubble over and fall apart behind the scenes on a busy night in an upmarket restaurant.

Brilliant. 9/10

Belfast

Autobiog of Ken Brannagh’s boyhood years in a working class Belfast street in 1969, just as The Troubles begin and British troops arrive.

I loved the Thor reference.

It could have been very dark, but is shot through with rays of humour and even joy.

Loved it. 9/10.

Dragon Ball Z Super: Super Hero

I believe this is the first time they used 3D animation and it was interesting to see on that front, I felt it worked well for the most part. It was great they dived into the character of Piccolo who doesn’t always get much love and explored his relationship with Gohan, a welcome change from the usual. Plot was overall solid and the action was great as expected, the villain C-Max was a bit weak although that was to do with the nature of his role. 8/10

DBZ Super: Broly

Now this is the first movie in the super series and it’s classic DBZ, excellent narrative, full of nostalgia, classic DBZ comedy and enjoyed the set up for a beautiful finish, the combat scenes were outstanding. This is a must see for any DBZ fan. 9.5/10

Got to love the huge emphasis on self belief and mental strength being key to the super-saiyan transformation, this show has been echoing these themes for such a long time and it has been well ahead of its time. Look forward to more from the Super series

3000 years of longing.

5/10 , awesome first half, extremely boring second half.

Well honestly it was George Miller, didn’t expect him to make something so boring, but again he made something called 40,000 years of dreaming so er yeah lol.

Am still waiting on the sequel to Fury road

Nope - 8/10

Another gem from Jordon Peele in the Horror genre, builds tension and suspense beautifully throughout and the narrative was solid, some nice comedy in there to and visually it was great as well. Fans of HP. Lovecraft will enjoy this one, I recommend though for any Horror fan.

Top Gun Maverick - 9/10

Perfect for what it was. In an era where all the big hits are superhero based, it was refreshing to see a well made action film. Adds some nostalgia as well.

The Woman King 8/10

Amazing acting and really good direction , Viola Davis is a legend, the woman can do any role, absolute inspiration.

Samaritan.

I am a die hard Stallone fan, but man this movie was worse than "Stop or my mom will shoot'

Black ‘47

A story of revenge set against the backdrop of the Irish Famine. Much of it in the Irish language. Kind of like The Outlaw Josie Wales.

Pretty good.

7/10.

Speak No Evil - one of those hits you hard horror movies involving two families. Brutal.

The Dark & The Wicked - full of malevolence & dread.

Shudder coming out with some belters recently. Both highly recommended.

King's Speech.

Very good movie, and given the death of the Queen of late, the story is far more interesting, however I don't think this movie is oscar worthy.

It’s a crowd pleaser. An enjoyable film to watch, but quite light fingered in terms of historical accuracy.

The opening “Wembley” scene where George experienced his stammer during a speech was filmed at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United.

Don't worry darling.

6.5/10... Guys who defend patriarchy should avoid watching it lol.

Personally I felt it was Olivia Wilde's movie was against her marriage, while acting and direction were good the story and plot seemed slightly obvious to me and it wasn't very balanced..

Florence Pugh is definitely awesome once again, she is definitely the top actress in my opinion involved in the right mix of movies.
