Mystic river, the girl with the dragon tatoo, the girl with the dragon tatoo, minority report, oldboy, changeling, memento, zodiac, the departed, source code, the ghost writer,...

Great list except for Mystic River which featured a horrendous ending. No one I mean no one admits to a crime they have not committed at all. Retarded plot contrivance ruined an otherwise good movie. Sean Penn's acting which shamelessly pandered to the Oscar committee also didn't help :danish. Minority Report was class though.

Two things though:

1. The music is awesome! Shreya Ghoshal´s voice always adds to the songs you know.

2. May God bless everyone of us with a wife like the one in 'Aashiqui 2' 2013.

Music can be heard on some online sites , no need to watch a movie for just music :D

Side Effects, a very recent one from Soderberg is a very decent flick, looks to have gone unnoticed.

watched this is the end - really good, thought Michael cera was very funny in it. &craig robinson - 8/10

Gona watch world war z now: hope this is good, as imo opinion - killing them softly, moneyball, tree of life, inglorious bstrds, very poor films

Prisoners 10/10. By far the best movie of the year. It resembled a lot to se7en an zodiac.

watched 2 Hindi movies

The Lunchbox
and
The Good Road

The Lunchbox - brilliant acting by Irfan Khan 8/10
The Good Road - Gujarati film 4/10
VERY surprised how "The Good Road" manage to beat "The Lunch Box" for this year India Oscar nominated movie

Jury who selected "The Good Road" for the Oscars were of drugs or what? , Lunchbox is a LOT better film!!

maybe the child prostitution theme (The Good Road) appeal to the white audience Oscar compared to middle class Mumbai story (The Lunchbox)
anyway, watch "The Lunchbox"

I was waiting for something good for some time. At last I am hearing good things about couple of movies namely "Rush" and "Prisoners".

Any one has seen them both?

A Cat in the Brain 6.5/10

An odd movie about a horror movie director who starts losing his mind due to constantly watching and thinking up violent scenes for his movies. Filled with a compilation of very gory scenes from The Godfather of Gore's movies. A pretty smart horror film though like other Fulci movies, not particularly concerned with logic and can get very haphazard.

Lunch Box has been critically acclaimed.

Neal n Nikki

After long time saw a old Bollywood movie.

The film, as its name implies, centres on Gurneal "Neal" Ahluwalia and Nikkita "Nikki" Bakshi (Uday Chopra and Tanisha), two Canadians of Indian descent, born and raised in British Columbia. Before getting married Neal wants to spend one month on vacation in total freedom by meeting women, going to clubs, and sleeping with hot babes. On his way he meets Nikki. He begins to make-out with her then sleeps with her and along the way, they fall in love. When he comes back from his wild ride with Nikki, it's time for his engagement. He's getting engaged to Nikki's cousin.

Usual Bollywood story line , very much predictable.

Good locations are the strongest point of the movie. Acting wise not that good. Both leading actors are sub standard.

'Ranjhanaa' (2013)

1. The filmy things that Kundan (Dhanush, the "Why This Kolaveri Di" guy) did were hilarious! He made it an entertaining film.

2. A good film overall where the ending was stretched a bit longer than it should have.

*The two things below weren´t good:*

3. Swearing. I hate it in films!

4. See the posts below from another thread......

There is no such thing as "no" in an Indian hero's vocab. Ignore her when she says no, even when she slaps your face. She doesnt know it yet, but she is very much in love with you. So keep stalking her, following her, taunting her, passing comments, even touching her without her permission. Thats the way she will fall for you. So in short, what will brand you as a psycho in West is what our heroes flaunt as their bravery and love. This is much much worse in regional movies

No wonder we have so many road-side majnus teasing girls on the street and wondering why the girl gets angry instead of falling head over heels for their witty comments

Something Ranjhaana seemed to epitomize

Link to the thread containing the above posts:

In short, I don´t advocate this type of behaviour.

What was the last film you watched? 'Ranjhanaa' (2013)

Just watched Raanjhana on colors ..liked dhsnush's acting in it .8/10

He was superb! My mother loved his character, and for reasons best known to her, has likened me to Kundun´s character and is calling me so occasionally since yesterday:))).

What was the last film you watched? ('Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' 2013)

'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' (2013)

Apart from the occasional fun and entertainment, nothing at all fascinating about this film. A pretty boring one without any story-line.

I have a habit of not being fascinated by films that revolve around someone making his career etc., apart from film 'Iqbal' (2005) I think.

In its promos on the TV channels, the film was advertised very differently, as if being some very entertaining film full of fun etc.

same here..
Don't know why YJHD and CE Were blockbusters

Phata poster Nikla Hero
It was preety good movie for entertainment ..
As usual a bit of overacting but as a whole a good entertainer

8/10

World War Z
6.5/10

Disappointing as a zombie movie. Enjoyable as a disaster film. Needed MORE gore. Way more gore. A flesh eating zombie movie rated PG-13?? :murali

Some sequences were superb though and I liked Brad Pitt's performance. Didn't break any new ground in the zombie horror subgenre but was a good time waster.

Lol at Peter Capaldi credited as a WHO doctor especially after what he is going to portray now..

'Chennai Express' (2013)

Utter nonsense, garbage!

1. Nothing much in it apart from showing the Tamils as some aliens and mocking their language.

2. My observation is, Rohit Shetty spends too much time on the Internet forums or social networks like Twitter etc. to collect all those jokes (and quotes etc.) to come up with a film. I have noticed this even in the good ones of his films.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Definitely worth a watch. Editing is quite articulate. The storyline is slightly patchy but rather brilliantly executed. Acting is effective but nothing to throw you off your seat.

7.4/10

Looking forward to Gravity. Rated 98% on RT. Possible film of the year?

Typical Masala movies aimed to make just 100 crore club.

Disconnect.

Promises alot, powerful message, doesn't really hit home.

6.6/10

The story was really good , hitting contemporary issue.

These kind of movies with realism are always good.

Brick Lane

A young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneem, arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Trapped within the four walls of her flat in East London, and in a loveless marriage with the middle aged Chanu, she fears her soul is quietly dying. Her sister Hasina, meanwhile, through letters to Nazneed, tells of her carefree life back in Bangladesh, stumbling from one adventure to the next. Nazneen struggles to accept her lifestyle, and keeps her head down in spite of life's blows, but she soon discovers that life cannot be avoided - and is forced to confront it the day that the hotheaded young Karim comes knocking at her door.

A realistic movie , good performances by all actors. The plot is monotonous in some parts , and slow.

Finally, saw chennai express.felt like watching a tamil masala movie with shahrukh and deepika in it.shahrukh as usual was overacting but deepika was funny.she looked beautiful in the southindian attire, esp in the 'Titli' song.

The Internship- which was funny but looked like a massive Google advert

and Pacific Rim- Decent but nothing to write home about.

Planning to go catch Gravity with the Mrs this weekend. Looks great.

Aftershock: 7/10 A good time pass but not as impacting as the plot suggested... could have been much better

This is the end: 7.5/10 Good comedy and definitely worth a watch

will need to check out some of the new movies out have some pretty good reviews around the net, rush, gravity, prisoners i hope they live up to the hype

Gravity.

Amazing movie. Makes you thankful for Earth and oxygen :)) great acting, story, special effects... Oscar worthy for sure.

The imax 3d experience is worth it and recommended.
10/10.

Frozen Ground (2013). I have a thing for movies surrounding serial killers. This one was not too bad. Decent enough for a one time watch.

Gravity is a visual mastsrpiece. This movie represents what 3d was made for.

Ho-hum haunted house movie. Lack of a definite antagonist makes things difficult. Also the ending is hopelessly contrived. The real hero of the movie is Lalo Schifrin's epic score which I feel was outstanding despite the creepy theme being overused. Also, the performances were good enough especially James Brolin and Rod Steiger.

All in all, a moderately creepy movie which can be watched once. Nothing great but the red eyes in the window did give me the chills.

6.5/10

Watched "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" again, both excellent movies. 8/10

"Die Hard" 1988, 4/10. Action and acting in some scenes looked ancient.

"Fright Night 2" 4/10.

"After Earth" 4/10.

I thought the remake with Reynolds was quite good though. A bit better than the rest of the horror movies out there, and there are a lot. Atleast it wasn't an entirely forgettable movie. 6/10 is probably accurate though.

It was no Sinister.

Sinister was miles ahead of The Amityville Horror. The Lawnmover scene was just fantastic. Infact, the Lalo Schifrin score made Amityville Horror look better than it actually was. The score was outstanding especially the lullaby theme which was overused but still unnerving. Haven't watched the remake. Heard it's superior to the original. I got Parts 1 and 2 from my friend hence I am watching them. After watching the ghastly ratings of the sequels, I am not even gonna go near the sequels beyond Part 2.

Prisoners.

Hugh Jackman's was pretty strong as always but the movie was only decent.

The Oxford Murders

At Oxford University, a professor and a grad student work together to try to stop a potential series of murders seemingly linked by mathematical symbols.

The plot of pretty new considering this is a murder mystery. The mathematical side gives it a different outlook. The end is well preserved , and with a slight twist.

7 / 10

amityville-ii-the-possession.jpg

A horror movie directed by an Italian in the 80s has to be sleazy. This one however is curiously dull despite adding some unsavoury elements like incest and familial abuse. There are few good sequences ripped off from The Exorcist and Lalo Schifrin churns out another epic score which makes the movie look better than it is. Also, Jack Magner(playing Sonny/Ronald DeFeo Jr.) and James Olson( playing the priest who performs the exorcism) give better performances than the movie deserves. Despite this, the movie is not very good and is boring apart from a few good scares and stylish direction by Damiani.

5.5/10

rush what a great movie.

I think the guy playing niki lauda (daniel bruhl) brought the whole austrian/german culture of being mechanical and precision alive.

God gave me a great as* :)))

and the whole theme of flair/raw talent vs a genius with an attention to detail made the movie so enjoyable.
