Forget Hurt Locker and Blind Side etc

If there is one movie this year - its Green Zone - one of the best performances from Matt Damon and an edge of your seat type drama - a war movie about Iraq with some hard hitting stuff... MUST SEE.
Green Zone hasn't reached SA yet. Look forward to see it.

Both Blind Side and Hurt Locker were good. I'd probably give Blind Side an 7.5 and Hurt Locker an 8.

This weekend I saw "How to train your Dragon" in 3D. Good storyline and one of the best animations I have seen. 8.

We also saw "The Bounty Hunter". Good actors, but probably a 7 in rating.

X men origins wolverine Ok movie for time pass However script bit poor wid holes n really doesnt give much new Fight scenes good tho 5/10

Hurt Locker was a sh!t movie.

Then you have very poor taste in movies. :P

It was miles better than Avatar. That movie was hyped more than Hasan Raza. Future of film BS. :))

please tell what the F was so great about Hurt Locker?

Just finished watchin district 9

Decent sci film with a good new premise, was fairly realistic on how aliens would ve been treated However film suffered from a poor cliched endin after a good start

script could ve been more honed and should ve kept the focus on how it started Tried 2 turn into a hollywood blockbuster in end which spoilt it Also the film had a b movie feel 2 it Overall decent for its premise initially but could ve been better 7/10

Hurt Locker was pretty good.

Avatar was decent as well. Perhaps you can question the length of it because it really dragged on at times. Although I thought it was beautifully presented and the story had an interesting hidden message to it.

I thought it depicted the war tremendously well in comparison to other efforts made by Hollywood. It didn't overdo scenes where they really could have with ease and this made the movie even better.

The performances by the actors were top notch and well balanced. I didn't see much overacting done and thats quite an accomplishment in such a movie.

saw Into the Wild again..

one of the best movies ever... highly recommend it
Slow but good movie. I watched it last year and immediately read all about it online. It's a true story...chilling :(

^Into the Wild is beautifully done but is VERY depressing. At least it was for me. And yeah, it being a true story had a lot to do with it.

But some great performances and amazing cinematography. Captures the Great American Outdoors like no other.

District 9 was a VERY good movie - I'd give it 7/10 too. I think its much better seen in the cinema though - given the scale of it, I would not have enjoyed it as much on the tv.

It felt like a B-movie at times because it is - its not a Hollywood blockbuster, is a low budget, independent film. Given that, it did pretty well in telling an old story from a very new and twisted angle.

What made the movie for me though was the setting - the location in South Africa, the Afrikan accents and language, the Afrikaaner culture arguing for apartheid, racism and discrimination - very subtly and cleverly done.

Thought this was never explicit in the movie, but all of this made it into a brilliant anti-apartheid movie.

I agree that the same movie set in a 'normal' setting would have been decidedly average, no more.

Infernal Affairs - Chinese flick, the inspiration for the Departed...Departed was better IMO.

But dont u think that the gung ho endin spoilt the film somewhat in the end?

I was enjoyin it mid way thru but the hollywoodesque endin let the film down in my opinion

You're right.

I think its a movie of two halfs - I enjoyed the first half more, as this was more different and real.

Exactly, the first half the premise was realistic and fresh, the 2nd half veered towards a totally different, dare i say familiar track.

Overall though its defo worth a watch, for the premise, setting and the subtle undertones

i absoloutley loved the ending, it was quite good to leave it on a cliff hanger like that.

Im not talking about the open ending, although thats only done to keep room for the sequel

What i was disappointed about was the gung ho arnie/sly type of machoism that was shown in the latter stages

Moon - noooo, it's not about Shoaib Malik or anything :D...very enjoyable, Sam Rockwell is a terrific actor

Boring movie.

I guessed what was going on as soon as his clone turned up.

I thought it was not so bad, not much of a 'thriller', if it was even meant to be one, but Rockwell did a terrific job.

The Book of Eli.

Besides the incredible action scenes, an utterly USELESS movie.

Overrated.

Or well, maybe I'd have liked it more had I watched it in 1983 instead of 2003.

I thought it was great. Pacino at his best.

extremely overrated more like...average film if not for the superlative performance by Pacino.

Hmm interesting.

I find that there are three Pacino movies in which people generally love his performances. The three being:

Scarface
Heat
Godfather II

And I for some reason can't stand him in any of these. His over-acting brings all three down, IMO.

Movies in which I really like his work are:

Scarecrow
Carlito's Way
Donnie Brasco
Scent of a Woman
Godfather I
The Insider

he was outstanding in Donnie Brasco and Godfather 2...the scene with Fredo will remain timeless...he completely stole the show in Heat, but the film itself was more style over substance IMO.

Twentynine Palms - remained boring till its very shocking end.

Clash of the Titans.

Absolute b0llocks.

Too short. The dude playing Perseus couldn't hide his Aussie accent. The effects are same old same old.

I watched it in 3-D. My advice, if your really going to waste some money on it watch it in 2-D.

I think De niro gave a better performance than pacino in that movie and Heat is a classic.. i expected something like that from the Departed but it was nowhere close.

Just watched serpicos way, good film well made and well acted, no surprises, nowt great or new here just all round decent ganagster film

ps i dont know what it is but i just love watching pacino on screen

The Departed is one of my all-time favourite films, so can't agree with you there :)

Good film loved it initially but the original was better

Infernal Affairs? I thought they managed the story a lot better in TD really.

Probably did, with a remake he had the luxury of smoothing the cracks and filling any holes

but i felt the ending was a lot better in IA, the love angle in Td was silly, i also enjoyed the despair and the emotion of the 2 characters in IA

Didnt really empathise with leornado as i did with the same character in IA

The Informant! - sahi thi, nothing too special.

I thought the Informant was pretty comical and had a deep element of satire to it. :gul 8/10

well yea, it was a dark comedy, but I guess I'm not into those too much, would rather see something that would make me LOL.

All Will Ferell movies are LOL-material.

Watche Step Brothers for the 6th or 7th time yesterday, the LOLs never cease. :inzi

Watched Shutter Island, pretty good. Also watched "Is Anybody There?"(2009), another quality film, a bit depressing at times but this was one of Michael Caine's best performances and that's saying a lot .

On the weekend which was a 4 day for me, watched a few ...

Date Night ... comedy with Steve Carell and also Mark Wahlberg. Not that great, but I watch anything that has comedy next to it. Probably 6.5 / 10

Leap Year ... romantic comedy. Average chick flick. Pretty girl in it. 7/10.

Hachiko: A Dog's Story ... drama / true story with Richard Gere. Worth seeing if you ever have had a dog. About the bonds between people and their pets. How does a dog understand certain things in life? Quite thought provoking. 8.5 / 10

Just watched part of a film called hana bi, eastern film. I found it absolutely terrible, very slow, very little going on, little dialogue, the lead character was emotionless, characterless and shockingly rubbish

The story also didnt make any sense, i had no idea what the hell was going on

Ive not even fininshed watching it its so bad and ive never ever done that to a film

I watched Taken last night. Kick-ass movie full of action. Highly recommended.

Kick-Ass

Extremely entertaining. Starts out like Superbad, Napoleon Dynamite, turns into Sin City, Kill Bill. Very creative.

Watched revolutionary road yesterday. Great acting from leonardo dicaprio and another guy who plays a psycho character.. dont know his name but his character reminded me of the joker from Dark Knight and acting was almost as good. The movie overall was very disturbing though

8/10 but i'm not sure i'd recommend it :aamir

Revolutionary Road is definitely worth recommending - as good a contemporary take on 50s suburbia as "Far From Heaven". Both classic movies.

Anyone else noticed the similarities between Revolutionary Road, which Mendes did in 2008, and his first ever work, American Beauty, in 1999? Both were brilliant and highly acclaimed takes on suburbia, though American Beauty won more awards.

I loved that movie too, every part of the movie was great except the ending! The ending was absolutely retarded.
