Luton Bad Boy said:Avatar, I did try and watch it but, had trouble staying awake (too boring) and the novelty of 3D glasses wore off too quickly...I managed to last 45 minutes until I decided that I would rather watch paint dry and then crack then to watch another minute of Avatar...

Asif khan said:A couple of Korean gems.
The Chaser - One of the best serial killer/thriller i've seen in a long long time.
Brotherhood of War - At least as good as Saving Private Ryan, this movie had everything. Brutality of war, honour, betrayal, raw emotion and tension.
Both HIGHLY recommended.

Same here. Italian, French, Chinese - there are gems everywhere.Foozee said:some of the best movies ive ever seen have been in foreign language and had to rely on subtitles...
One of the more interesting and involved footiee movies I have ever seen was a Brazilian one too - "O Casamento de Romeu e Julieta" (The Marriage of Romeo and Juliet) was in Portugese with sub-titles, basically about the Corinthians and Palmeiras rivalry in São Paulo.Foozee said:City of God- Brazilian

I just recently saw an old-ish Italian movie, "Il Postino" (The Postman), based partially on the real life events of Pablo Neruda, the Chilean poet and communist. Great movie. I don't watch foreign movies much because of subtitles but the last one I watched was "Letters from Iwo Jima" and that was American movie but subtitles. Great movie and I even bought it. For me it depends on the time of day and how I am I feeling - am I wide awake and can see the screen for next one hour or did the first 10-15 minutes of movie get my attention. But same applies for English movies but it is harder for subtitled movies as you walk away but what you hear is something you cannot understand.abdul2009 said:Korean movies? Awesome movie, One of the best I have seen. Thanks for the suggestion
Clint Eastwood is a true American![]()

Another one to add to the list:
The Usual Suspects
If you have seen it, watch it again, if you have not seen it, make sure you watch it two times to actually understand what actually happens in the movie.
Again, another movie with a great storyline, fantastically portrayed by the actors and a mind-blowing twist at the end...

When was it released?

@LBB, mate any other good movies in the same genre of Gran torino released in this decade?? Please suggest
Ahmed Zulfiqar said:No Country for Old Men was one of the crappiest movies I've ever seen...typical Oscar-nominated overrated CRAP
Haha in which case I do NOT recommend that you watch Blood Simple, the Coen Brothers' first film. Also set in Texas, and the style and cinematography are quite similar.Ahmed Zulfiqar said:No Country for Old Men was one of the crappiest movies I've ever seen...typical Oscar-nominated overrated CRAP
Second that, brilliant movie.Zaz said:By the way a brilliant eastwood film ''unforgiven'' - do not miss it

in life generally there are no heroes, the bad guys do many times get away and all this good or bad ending to films is rubbish as in life the end only happens with death

There you go, ive added a spoiler alert
Have you seen it? What did you make of the film?
kingusama92 said:Movie was fine. I agree with you in regards to the ending.

^^The only issue with the ending I had was that I couldn't understand a single darn word coming out of Tommy Lee Jones' mouth! The Texan drawl, and maybe the sound in the cinema was off a little, but it all ends with a monologue and I couldn't tell what happened. Had to go and read the script afterwards.

Definitely must see. I highly recommend two more Korean movies if you have not seen:Asif khan said:The Chaser - One of the best serial killer/thriller i've seen in a long long time.
I disagree. If you are a movie buff, then some of the best movies out there are in languages other than English. Don't let the language barrier deter you.abdul2009 said:Korean movies? Its not worth watching a movie if you cant understand the language and have to rely on subtitles

Plenty of other movies have poetic endings, I have nothing against that, and in fact I prefer dramatic or non-typical endings. All this goes all the way to Victorians (as with most things in our lives) - Dickens' Great Expectations had an original, very sad, open-ended sort of ending, one which left countless possibilities, resolved nothing and was very realistic - absolutely brilliant! However, there was a furore, so it subsequently got changed to a silly, mushy, 'happy' ending, which is just fake.Zaz said:The ''ending'' was what made the film

one movie I would recommend for everyone is Atonement, absolutely stunning film.

Atonement, was on Sky recently, it is the one with Keira Knightely isnt it?

I really liked Fargo. I actually consider it a comedy movie which it was notAhmed Zulfiqar said:Fargo was boring, other than that the list is excellent.

Didn't like "Brother where art thou" (or whatever and I didn't even know it was there and thought it was Clooney and Sodenbr...?? the Ocean 11 or maybe Syriana team) movie. Watched half of it because I bought it and it was on while I was laying down or doing other things.
I think these are the only movies of their that I have seen and I probably saw them without knowing they made it
12thMan said:Is that the "dude" movie? I saw it but can't remember except Jeff Bridges and Dude (if it is the same movie). I didn't know it was their's. I can't comment if I liked it or not as I can hardly remember (it is not just this movie but quite a few where I have to see again to remember) and I think it was entertaining
Yeah you should definitely see The Big Lebowski. That's the first movie of theirs that I watched and it's probably my favorite movie of all time. So much so that it's hard for me to now watch Jeff Bridges in other movies because I can't get past his portrayal of The Dude.12thMan said:I am not their fan. Since then I've pretty much seen everything they've done. Except for The Hudsucker Proxy and Intolerable Cruelty. While I won't say they're all excellent movies, they definitely have a unique style.

Strangely enough I didn't like the way The Departed ended *at all* even though it was very coherent and I had no trouble understanding anything.ShehryarK said:Precisely! Very well said
It was a well-made decent movie, but the end was a let-down.
It wasn't dramatic, it wasn't classy, and it wasn't even coherent. Now compare that with the ending of The Departed! Lightyears ahead...
Ahmed Zulfiqar said:what suspense man, halfway through the movie you find out that Bale's "engineer" looks exactly like him!
Foozee said:when i watch a movie.. i dont look at one factor... everything comes into equation... direction, cinematography, story, acting... i thought everything was top notch.. again to each his own..
the thing that made this movie special for me was Christian Bales rivalry with Hugh Jackman.. I'm bias here because Christian Bale is my favorite actor
