Fireflies in the Garden

A family with an abusive father, a sensitive son, and a mother out of her depth: we see them when Michael is about 12 and when he's in his 30's, a writer of romance novels, going home for his mother and sister's college graduations. We go back and forth between the two periods: when Michael is a boy, the pressure builds until a break is threatened and there's a fight; during his trip home, there's an unexpected death, and renewed relationships between father and son, Michael and his aunt, and Michael and his aunt's young children. Michael's estranged wife joins them for the funeral.

My rating 7/10

How so?

Watched Django Unchained... n-word said 109 times in the movie!

Great movie though

Well in one scene the CIA woman in Pakistan was watching the news and it was in arabic...

The actress in it also annoys me. Keeps drinking diet coke

My expected DDL dose cancelled because the snooker overran.

Deeply unimpressed.

Twilight Portrait 2011

This film certainly provides a terrible image of Russia...it just seems such a miserable place...the movie itself is very intriguing and leaves one with a lot of questions afterwards...basic premise deals with how an upper class woman deals with being gang raped by three policemen...brilliant movie...

Loverboy 2011

Romanian flick about a real topic there...about one of the cogs in the human trafficking trade...the charmer who gets the girl, wins her trust and then sells her...its slow moving but a good movie...nothing sensationalist whatsoever...it feels quite authentic...

SPOILER

One of the things I found especially interesting was trying to work out what parts were strategy and manipulation and what parts were general feeling from Luca's character...if this was an American flick then love would have saved the day...imo its debateable as to whether there was any love there in the first place...he just knows how to behave...and this is where the ending seems to have upset some people...I personally felt it was good as your fooled into believing this girl might actually be special when in fact shes just another girl to profit off...

Django Unchained
A top notch film, witty, great dialogue and great performances, samuel jackson is brilliant

Tarantino at his best

9/10

Prometheus

A decent film which is a prequel to the original but too many plot holes spoiled it

6/10

The Last Stand 8/10

Entertaining, fast paced action movie which is delightfully violent and funny too. Didn't deserve to flop like it did in the US. Should do well in dvd and bluray sales. Arnold is as good as ever.

Zero Dark thirty..not sure but I felt like lot of info was missing !!! that whole laden compound raid sequence was great though ..

not as impressive as hurt locker
Some day I would like a tv show or a long documentary made on this whole saga...with every minute detail..and also ladens biography would be interesting too !!

6/10 !!

Has this been released??

Dredd - 7/10

VERY violent action movie. Villain could have been nastier but worse movies have been box office successes. Well made and can be watched once. Movie has franchise potential.

In relevance to post #6991, film 'Barfi!' 2012 has won the best film award in Filmfare awards as well as Colors TV and so has Ranbir Kapoor in the category of best actor. Not that it matters to me by any means as I hardly take this award stuff seriously, but just thought of sharing this information:).

So, "(ala ala matwala Barfi) paoo`n parra mota chhaala Barfi...."

:msd:sachin

Seven Psychopaths - 6.5/10

It tried to be too smart and came off too forced and artificial at times, felt it was forced and didn't have an organic flow to it. A one time watch maybe since it has it's funny moments.

Amazing Spiderman

A reboot of the story, with a new fresher faced cast The lead actors make the film (garfield and stone) who are both perfectly cast and share excellent screen chemistry

The story itself doesnt offer anything very different from the older version Theres a few plots that start but go nowhere and we have a poor lead villian

Decent effort with praise to the leads but was a reboot so soon really needed?

7/10

Looper:
0/10
Started watching the movie and gave up after 30min... really tested my brain nerves :junaid

Hit and Run
3/10
Forgettable... Watched this a couple of days back, and im finding it difficult to recall what the movie was about :yk

Django Unchained
9.5/10
Tarantino does it again... Brilliant film making!
Christoph Waltz anchors the film throughout and he may go on to fetch the oscar for this yet again after doing it last time as well in Tarantino's Inglorious... although one would argue that he is in the wrong category considering the screen time and contribution he has in the movie

Leo has further stamped his mark as one of the best actors alive today... his skull scene is amazing!

Magnolia 6/10

Raining Frogs! LOL

Only 6/10 for Magnolia. I thought that was a brilliant movie. The characters all intertwined were fragile, hopeless and seeking for some kind of redemption and happiness. The frog sequence is a masterpiece, reference to the Book of Exodus. Lot of father son , father daughter issues throughout the storyline. Issues of abandonment, exploitation, abuse etc. This movie has so many levels of mystery and complexities to it that its mind boggling to imagine it all being put in one movie. Of course, Tom Cruise is phenomenal in his portrayal as the narcissistic chauvanist self help sex guru, T.J.Mackey. Even director PTA said that this is the best movie he is ever going to make.

Just thinking about that scene in Magnolia where Cruise is sitting next to his dying fathers bed, who is dying an agonizing and painful death from lung cancer, almost delirious from pain meds, Cruise sitting there shaking like a leaf trying to hold back tears... the anger and resentment showing on his face while he is telling him repeatedly how much he hates him for abandoning him and his mom, while you can clearly see he is also grieving on his impending death. A mixture of emotions coming through....that has to be one of the most tragic and emotionally harrowing scene I have ever seen. Brilliant work by PTA and Cruise.

Lawless

A prohibition era crime film about three brothers starring hardy, le boeuf and pearce
Decent but not memorable with the narrative longwinded and flawed in places. The majority of the cast also struggle with their roles bar the brilliant
peace who is a standout and totally unrecognisable as the evil despicable federal agent

6/10

Click

Good movie, the plot was refreshing , its a kind of time travel movie but very different treatment.

8 / 10

Curse of Frankenstein-7/10

Creepy late 50s hammer horror classic. Dr. Frankenstein is a sociopathic jerk in this. Great acting by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

i watched a old movie called PRATIGYA on cable starring dharminder & hema malini -watta fab movie ....my rating 9/10- must must watch :)

Watched 12 Angry Men again.
10/10.
Excellent movie.
Excellent acting and story you never lose interest throughout the movie.

Drag me to hell

Its okay sort of movie. Not a master piece though but still a kind of time pass. The actress was sweet and loveable. I guess the way movie ends they might have a part 2 .

6.5 / 10

Imposter

Fantastic eerie documentary/movie told by its participants about the real life imposter Frédéric Bourdin who fooled the spanish authorities, fbi and the victims family into believing that he was the missing texas kid Nicholas Barclay

Brilliantly creepy, as good as catfish, this will run a chill down your spine

9/10

the fact that it is made in documentary genre makes it even more interesting with real characters narrating their side of the story

Watched Movie 43

Want to see Hugh Jackman with testicals on his neck go on a date with Kate winslet. and Want to see Jackman eat his own public hair ???

Want to see beautiful girl like Anna Faris have a poop Fetish....

Want to see jokes on Pubic hair...Incest (with both mon and dad ) by the same kid....Want to see writing that is horrific....Hally berry mashing using her B.... Richard gere insert his finger into a Women(err... life like Women machine(Ibabe) 's Vag..... Want to see crude jokes on disabled.....Emma Stone involved in a dirty talk...

Now all the above were one level...but the most crude...heartless...insensitive joke was on a 11 yr old Girl 's first Period.....that was just way over the top...Girl was played by another A lister....donno her name but the girl in Kickass movie.....

Directors were also some well known....I actually wanted to go to Les Misarebles..and I saw this poster with all well known names...so I went for this...I was into shock of my life....Sure there were funny scenes...but it was very very very crude humour.....way above any B grade movie I have ever seen....

I think this was just a bunch of Well known actors and production trolling its audience..

I donno how to rate this movie...they set out on making a crude...no holds barred insenstive comedy and they succeeded......

This seems to be the trend in Hollywood nowadays. Just make the most obnoxious sick and disgusting piece of crap and teenagers and people older but mentally still in the teens seem to love it. And some well known critic will come along and call it "refreshingly honest", "ground breaking" or some other uber cool epithets and suddenly it will become hip to like these kind of movies.

I think this started with the Farrelly brothers movies like Something about Mary etc. Taken to another level by Judd Apatow of Knocked up fame and now its just gone overboard.

After much requesting from my Indian friend, watched a bollywood movie called "Gangs of Wasseypur". Actually it's in 2 parts. Superb movie with a lot of colourful characters. The minor bone of contention for me was there was absolutely no one to root for. All were villains. Still a watchable movie and one which I seriously needed subtitles for.

V/H/S

Very food found footage stuff. A sequel has already been completed.

Which stories did you like more? The wraparound one was weak. But I enjoyed the jungle story and the haunted house ones more. Even the first one with the crazy she-creature was great.

All of them apart from the web-cam one..I didn't get it :-/. That she-creature/vampire was freaky man! Im looking forward to the sequel.

From last three days:

Malice - nice movie. 7/10...

Marathon Man- okay movie. 6/10

Stylish, actioned packed violent reboot. Carl Urban was perfect.

A solid 9/10

haha, You are absolutely right.

They were all villains. Actually it is based on true story and Dhanbad at that time was full of villains :)

Again, a lot of Indians won't understand that version of Hindi. So I can understand your trouble.

I was really impressed with Nawazuddin (Playing Faizal Khan character).

Watched a couple of movies:

End of Watch: 8/10, superbly done, loved Michael Pena in it.
Premium Rush: 6.5/10 OK movie, really lagged a lot and didn't find the content engaging
Never Back Down: 6.5/10 Cliched MMA fighter coming of age story, you can predict every scene literally but was slight fun

A request to Zaz and Shaykh 1985, can you guys mention your pick of top 10 movies. Seen some of the movies that you guys suggested, theyre very good.

Oceans 12

Had to watch after watching Oceans 11. It was pretty good ..... the story line of 11 was more strong , 12 had more style.

all in all good for watching once.

6.5 / 10

Top 10 that would be tough? Ive seen literally hundreds of films over the last few years and many more before

It would help if can you narrow down your preferences?

What sort of films do you like?

Action/Comedies/Horror? English language films or foreign language? What type of films have you enjoyed in the past?

Are you after recent films or are you open to going back several years?

Gangs of Wasseypur was class..........none of that Bollywood trying to be flashy and failing and copying West BS...

it portrayed Indian culture.

@ Leatherface........support the main villian/character ofcourse :akhtar

Liked raid redemption and the old boy (kind of intense)

Foreign (Asian : Japanese, Korean or etc) films, psychological/mystery /action thrillers. Also like good horror aswell. Thanks :)

Gangster Squad - 8/10. Great performances from Penn, Gosling, Brolin and the rest of the cast. Story wise it was average, screenplay wasn't spectacular, had some ok one liners. Cinematography, costume design, sound and visual effects were great.

Martha Marcy May Marlene

Top notch Drama about a young girl who flees a cult and then struggles to adjust to normality Will she be able to move on and leave her past behind?

8/10

Poetry

Korean film about a 60s something woman who in her twiglight years turns to poetry as she struggles with ill health, money problems and looking after her young troubled grandson

A little overlong and leisurely paced this a film is worth percevering with as it beautifully captures the struggle of the terrific lead actress when all she wants to do is just right poetry

7/10

Just watched "the man from no where'. Absolutely brilliant, dont get these kind of movies from mainstream hollywood. Will see these aswell. Hearing good things about Lady Vengeance, the info seems so interesting (And seems like the show Dexter stole the starting scene from that movie :) )

P.S ill highly recommend the movie 'Equilibrium' starring Christian Bale. One of My favorite movie, and its before the time when Bale got all Hollywood :).

And a special mention of my favorite story line of all, if you guys are in to it. 'Cowboy Bebop', 26 episode anime, and the inspiration for my avatar. Hands down the best story line ive seen. Advise, you have to be little patient for the story to develop, but you will not be disappointed.

Anyways these are just the movies i was looking for, thanks a bunch.:akhtar
