I watched Made in China of his tbh it was not that good as i expected but it was much better than Housefull 4.
 
Ford vs Ferrari. Very good racing movie. Bale seems to be getting better and better while Damon seems to have totally forgotten how to act.

On to the movie though, paint by numbers movie, clicked all the right boxes, but still not as good as Rush but very welcome in this poor year for movies.

The Magnificent Seven 1960, was on the telly enjoyed it with the fam ; solid western
 
Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless

This popularized the jump cut and a new way of editing which has inspired filmmaking techniques used even today. Highly engrossing and well-paced, this is a classic that does not disappoint.

Little women 8/10 very well directed edited and acted, the movie doesn’t get boring and feels very warm and old hollywoodish.

Recommended for everyone , family movie.

As an actor even Shahrukh Khan is amazing who is getting flopped for nearly a decade.

He defn is.. I agree with Tigmanshu Dhulia’s words that SRK is capable of giving tremendous world class performances but no one is able to extract it from him.
Srk is an actor unlike Salman..but he clearly doesn’t give inputs to directors like Amir.

Amir is underrated as an actor,He can adopt any character.
But people mostly see him as he has a good taste in script,direction.

Not really, he has great screen presence and works well for role but I always know its Amir because his method of acting is same, not unrecognizable..
Andaaz Apna Apna s buffonery is very similar to one in PK and 3 Idiots.

Srk in Darr , Baazigar is totally diff from one Chakde, Devdas who is diff from K3G, DDLJ etc..

All above is imho.. and I would spend money to watch Amirs movies not SRKs ..coz of trust in Amir
 
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.

I think since I binge watched all the 5 seasons in a space of 4 days - this movie actually felt quite underwhelming. I suppose its a decent end given to Jesse from the fans point of view. Nothing - the dialogue, comedy, the tension - nothing matches to what we see in the original TV series.
 
Once upon a time in Hollywood (8/10): An extremely well made film with one of the most amazingly satisfying endings I have ever seen in a movie. I especially liked the chemistry between Dicap and Pitt, no overly emotional melodramatic scenes or tear jerking garbage, no scene stealing competitions, just two pals chillin and having a good time.

Irishman,Once upon a time in hollywood.
During weekends I will watch Ad Astra,Ford vs Ferrari.
 
A horror film on Netflix called The Ritual.

Reuniting after the tragic death of their friend, four college pals set out to hike through the Scandinavian wilderness. A wrong turn leads them into the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil exists and stalks them at every turn.

Not the best of films, but it was ok to pass a bit of time 4/10.
 
Chhicchore. I thought Gully Boy was the best BW movie I watched last year but this movie was even better than that.
 
1917, I usually hate pro Britain WW movies but this was technically excellent.. also showed that realistically some soldiers started questioning the war as well.
7.5/10 , defn an oscar bait though.
 
Knives out

Really enjoyed it. Both Daniel Craig and Chris Evans gave excellent performances. Whoever was responsible for casting actors deserves an award.
 
Just watched Deadpool 2.

Possibly the worst Marvel movie I have seen in my life. Worse than Captain Marvel.

I give it 1 out of 10. This movie is the worst I have seen in the past 5 months.

I enjoyed 1917 as well, if we just judge the narrative then it was excellent in exposing the reality of war and how brutal it is; beyond that I know they really played up the whole "one shot" deal but agree with you on the technical point because it actually lived up to the build because I found it to be more engaging on a grounded level as a result, made you feel a part of it so the visual style was pretty good in that sense. Reminded me of a few old war games I use to play on PC lol just loved the perspective. Would you prefer 1917 or Dunkirk ?

Even I was a Marvel fan but I stopped watching after Endgame.

I haven’t watched Dunkirk ,I do like Nolan movies but somehow didn’t feel any inclination to watch Dunkirk.
 
The Gentlemen, has the Guy Ritchie vibe with some great dialogue writing and direction, story though was very predictable 7.5 ,

Collin was hilarious. and some really new age film scenes with youtube included.
 
1917 was a blast to watch on the big screen and I'm glad I did. The idea of giving the movie the illusion of shooting it in a single continuous take was brilliant. I wonder why more movies don't do that. I liked it much better than Dunkirk as well. Actually, I didn't get Dunkirk at all.

Its between this and Parasite for best movie Oscar IMO.
 
Bad Boys...was surprisingly good, worth a watch if you are a fan of the series, or if you have never watched the first two.
 
Irishman 8/10 , realistic portrayal, excellent direction, the movie’s best part is the ending though.. how they look back at it.

Very satisfying viewing but no not better than the Godfather 1 or 2, which tbf was never the style of Scorsese who is though much better director than Coppola

Joe Pesci killed it in his role and sad Ray Romano never did much more movies like these.

It was unfortunate it didn’t do well in terms of boxoffice numbers but by far my fav comedy of 2019, Olivia Wilde is an excellent director.
 
I have been getting really into Russian film lately. If you are a little bit spiritually / mystically inclined, I would highly recommend watching ‘Andrei Rublev’ by Andrei Tarkovsky. This director is a genius and on many many critics choice lists for the greater director of all time. Andrei Rublev is a biographical drama about a very famous Russian icon painter from the 15th century. It is a two-parter, very deep, philosophical and spiritually complex. Definitely will not be for everybody, so buyer beware!

Tarkovsky’s most famous film is ‘Stalker’, but that is very surreal and abstract. Beautiful, but, for me, Andrei Rublev is an unmatched masterpiece, so no comparison!

I have many more Russian film recommendations but will leave it at that for now :)

I watched a Russian movie a few days ago. It was called T-34. I quite loved it.

I would love to watch more Russian movies. Feel free to give me some names.

Uncet Gem with Adam Sandler. Great reviews but I didnt like it. Part of me was excepting something comedic perhaps. Its kind of slow for me

Tarkovsky is my favourite director of all time and Stalker is my favourite film of all time
 
Memories of Murder by Bong Joon Jo. 10/10. One of the best movies I’ve seen

What we do in the shadows. 8/10. Really fun comedy plus I’m a sucker for vampire mythology

Also watch the What we do in the shadows 2019 series by the same crew. Most hilarious TV series of 2019 (and in my all time top 10) by far with a perfect cast, great cameos and hilarious dialogue/situations.

Ah, Tarkovsky is amazing. Have you seen ‘Andrei Rublev’ or ‘The mirror’? I like Andrei Rublev the most because it is his most narrative film, whereas the others are more poetic and abstract. But everyone talks about ‘Stalker’, so it is also definitely critically acclaimed and a cool film. He is my favourite director, too.

I also really like Satyajit Ray. Have you watched any of his films?

There are a few other Russian films that I really like - July Rain (existential film, about the glamorous Moscow life, central role played by a woman who begins to understand the emptiness of her frivolous existence. Very subtle, beautifully shot and elegant); The Cranes are flying (soviet propoganda film but very beautiful. Black and white); ‘Summer’ (relatively modern fictionalized biography film about famous Russian rock bands ‘Zoopark’ and the rise of Russia’s most famous folk-rock band ‘Kino’); I walk in Moscow (very light film, enjoyable and simple, soviet). I think I translated all the titles correctly, but if you are looking for them and can’t find the films, let me know and will give you the Russian titles or imdb links.

But there are some very brutal war films in Russian cinema as well. I will try to remember them and post about them later if you want. In the meantime, maybe you will like ‘Brother’ or ‘Brat’ in Russian, if you like mafia films as well? But famously, Russians have some of the most brutal war films as well if that is more your taste.

Yeah I’ve seen every Tarkovsky film. Unfortunately haven’t seen a a single satyajit ray film but they’re in my watchlist

The Lighthouse. 9/10

Bleak, dark & cold is the best way to describe this movie. Well worth a watch.
 
The Lighthouse 8/10, I would have enjoyed it more I reckon if it wasn't in the cinema; the cinematography was fantastic and the individual character development of Winslow and Wkae; Pattinson was incredible, not sure why he still has that reputation for being the 'twilight guy' because that is too harsh if you look at his filmography after that, Dafoe just seems to fit so naturally as the bloke who plays an antagonist. If there was a criticism, I'd say that the reality based horror narrative is being recycled by this studio; less can be more for sure and leaving some things open to the imagination but tying up some of those loose ends would be great to but also build towards that. Hopefully the next horror release from A24 has a creative plot.

Kurasawa was an ardent admirer of Ray's works, I rate him more than than Truffaut and probably on per with Bergman and Kurasawa considering he didn't have access to half as many resources as they had and made equally captivating movies with 1/10th of their budget. One of the reasons why I admire Iranian directors so much, honest depictions of life and creating wonders with shoestring budget. Even Ray's lesser works like 'Satranj ke khiladi' are a masterpiece. You should really give Apu trilogy a watch.
 
Watched Mandy (2018). Uff one of the most insanely gory and enjoyable movies of recent times. If David Lynch was on a cocktail of steroids, psychedelic and nootropic drugs he would probably still be struggling to match this level of insanity. Nicolas Cage performed the pants off the lead role. His mannerisms and hysterical eccentricities fit perfectly with the tone of this film.

Dafoe is probably the most underrated actor ever. Even after giving incredible performances for decades together still mostly known as the guy who played green Goblin.

That's unfortunate, almost like a big de ja vu / oxymoron in a way as his co-star Pattinson is still seen as the twilight guy, perhaps The Batman movie will change that.

Well said.

Similar thing happened with Elijah Wood and Daniel Radclife too, still mostly known for Frodo Baggins and Harry Potter despite both of them giving amazing performances consistently in Indie films.

Dafoe is a curious case, kinda like the male version of Chloe Sevigny, more comfortable doing indies and Avant-Gardes with some notable mainstream appearances here and there.

Saw The Invisible Man in theatres. Really really liked it. My favourite Leigh Whannell movie since saw. Further proof that we live in the age of good horror

White House Down - 8/10: Fun movie that I really enjoyed watching.

Wanted - 7/10: Starpower of Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie helps this movie a lot but I enjoyed the film and the plot twist at the climax was great.

The Ritual - 6/10: Not a bad movie, not a great movie. I actually enjoyed watching it the whole build and the tense middle act of the movie was great but the ending was pretty dumb, I expected a better payoff. If they fixed the ending to say make it a bit more scary or interesting I would of liked it a lot more but the ending of this film was just garbage.

Eli - 8/10: Loved this movie although I expected a scarier movie I actually unlike a lot of people loved this movie. It kept the tension throughout, and the ending was just fantastic, I did not one bit expect that ending loved it.

Green Lantern - 9/10: I can't believe I just watched this movie about a month ago for the first time. Now I get it, this movie is no where near the level of the Marvel Movies or some other classic movies. So maybe my rating of 9/10 is a bit high. However, I rate these movies on how much I enjoyed watching them and I absloutley loved Green Lantern. I'm a huge superhero fan and I have seen every Marvel Movie and I watch a ton of DC shows and so I thought why not give Green Lantern a go, and boy did Ryan Reynolds do a phenomenal job acting. Just loved this film.
