Anyhow i have my tickets booked to watch Avatar on tuesday night - I cant wait (will make sure i have plenty of sleep before hand :D)

Good idea, you might have fallen asleep in the middle of it otherwise.

watch time travellers wife... good movie and good acting

Haven't seen the movie, not sure that I will because the book is one of those that is difficult to adapt properly into a movie without dumbing it down a lot. I'm not one of those snobs who claims every book is a million times better than the movie as though reading makes you superior but yeah, read the book ;-)

Oh and I watched The Road last night, brilliant movie. Bestest movie I've seen a while but I do have quite a few good movies from last year to catch up on.

Just got back from Daybreakers, alright but nothing great. Good fun in a cheesy B-movie kind of way

Class Action - only reason I watched it was because Gene Hackman was in it and I had not seen it before. Not bad. It is from early 90s with lawyers and stuff. Not one of the better law/lawyer movies but better than average as I didn't fall asleep and watched the whole movie looking at the time I watched it (probably midnight and I was trying to fall asleep)

Yeah, great 90s movie. From what I recall, based on a true story? Or do I have it confused with the Travolta movie?

A Civil Action (The Travolta one that was on a few days ago) is based on a true case, dunno about the Hackman one

Aah ok. Yeah that one's a class movie too. And no I didn't see it when it was "on" a few days ago... not living in the UK, we don't get to enjoy Mr. Murdoch's benevolent shadow aka BSkyB.....

Yes different movies. Travolta one was much better. Then there is Erin Brokovich which was also class action law suit (based on true story and very good) but not much of court scenes. Both these were with chemicals in water I think

'Pyaar Impossible' (from Bollywood):

The cast itself suggests that it isn´t going to be any blockbuster, however, it turned out to be a complete waste of time:26:.

"Veer"

One of my Indian friend told me that don't watch Salman Khan's new movie "Veer". Don't waste your time and money. This is what he told me.

Yeah you're right. The difference is that the Travolta and Hackman ones are courtroom dramas, where the lawyer is the hero/main character. The main character in Erin Brokovich is Julia Roberts, and its not a courtroom drama - doesn't mean its a worse movie, just a very different one.

I watched "Veer" yesterday.

It was boring to be honest. It had it's moments but then it just went on and on and on. Extremely long even for Bollywood standards.

Only reason it had some good moments was because of Salman. The girl honestly got the role based on her looks cause she can't act. :))

Wife and I watched "Brothers". Interesting movie. Basically when families get torn apart by the conflict of the war. 1 brother is a drifter (ex-convict) and the other is going back to do his 4th tour of duty in the war (i.e. Tobey McGuire). His Black Hawk is shot down and he is MIA. The drifter gets new direction in life and he becomes daddy to the brother's kids. That is only half the story. Good plot. Nice girl in it i.e. Natalie Portman.

A flop. I feel bad for Salman, he apparently had genuinely worked hard on script, and his role in the film. Unfortunately he can never be a succesful perfectionist like Aamir Khan, i doubt the film will even recover the costs incurred.

Watched The Book of Eli - I liked it, good film. Denzel's acting was class as always BUT he also kicked some ass

'Veer' (from Bollywood):

Apart from bit of good acting by Salman Khan, the film was absolutely nonsense:boom:!!!

Just saw 'One Fine Day' (1996) starring Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney.Cute romantic comedy .. start off with the usual 'I cant stand you' theme but then gets interesting.

Pfeiffer is one hot mom in this movie !

gonna watch it on Friday, absolutely cannot wait to see it...nothing better than watching Zel in "one man army" mode.

saw - cique du freak the vampires assistent' yesterday. yes i am very late but it is a rubbish movie. completely different from the book.

'London Dreams' (from Bollywood):

An amazingly boring and senseless film:boom:!!! Little bit of comedy from Salman Khan was the sole thing to be watched in it.

I saw Avatar recently..

Must the most over-hyped tripe movie I have ever seen..

Granted the Special FX were great but, for me the novelty of 3D glasses soon wore off...

If that is the future of cinema and television, then personally I aint liking it..

My Name is Khan: It's a nice movie must watch, lots of clapping during the movie and Shahrukh Khan as usual great acting. This was my first time of watching a Bollywood movie in Cinema.

Must thing worried me a lot i.e. "Security". I saw it in Capri Cinema Karachi the one of the famous Cinema but I was actually surprised to see that there was not a single security personal who was doing his security duty. Everyone was free to go in and out without checking.

MNIK Official Thread

I saw the movie yesterday. Really enjoyed it. It rocked. SRK was absolutely at the top of his game. Great moral and message to take away as well. Prejudice following 9/11 being the theme.

I found it to be an average movie. SRK was good as usual.

Highlight of the movie for me was Mama Jenny and funny hair Joel

For me the highlight was the moment when Rizu met the presient aka Barrack Obama. It was a reward of patience. LOL at remembering "Howdy".

Very good movie.......... i think srk's best work till date

My mother saw it and said it was pretty good. SRK was brilliant supposedly.

I'll watch it later on probably.

Id be interested to know how this thread has managed to survive 5 pages without being merged with "What was the last film you watched?"

Just got back from "The Road", a drama. Not an ideal movie to take the wife to on Valentines Day, but I wanted to see it and others were sold out. What can I say about it. Thought provoking, but at times predictable. After the apocalypse a guy and his kid are on a road to nowhere and need to stay away from the bad guys (those who are hunting). Will they reach the destination that the father promises about? Watch the movie and find out. The movie is a bit macarbe at times.

i watched My name is khan. Not as good as i thought it would be, but decent and no way does it compete with 3 Idiots. The concept is a bit old now considering that Yash Raj productions can only make movies on the topic of 9-11. They need to let it go now because its too late to reignite the emotions of the asian audiance!

^ that depends on the audience. If you like Indian movies (might just be because of language or the bollywood) then you compare to the other 30 that you watch in a year. If it gets to top 5 in the list then it is good

MNIK, Absolutely pathetic and one of the boring films I have watched this year. Well I was prepare for this disaster of a movie but it is really sad to see these kind of movies getting super duper hit, world wide. The film completely lack the flow of a movie even for bollywood standards and I am not going over the story and direction of this movie. Though I am pretty sure, fans of Gayrukh Khan and children younger than 10 are really thrilled about another SRK hit movie.

The bollywood crew has completely destroyed what used to be very fine thread with 'good' movie recommendations. Why do you guys watch these crap movies if you only have to complain afterwards about how pathetic the movie was? :pissed:
------

Anyways, I watched this movie 'Cidade de Deus' (City of God) which is about the slums and gang wars in Rio De Janeiro. I am sure many movie aficionados must have watched it but if you haven't then its a must see for people with good taste.

And if you like it then do watch 'Tropa de Elite' as well.

MNIK... some technical flaws and errors in the movies, but it was good.... 7/10

SRK... 7/10

Kajol... 6/10

Fuzzy hair Joel 10/10 gotta love fuzzy hair joel and his big tears and big smile lolz

'My Name Is Khan' (from Bollywood):

Not a bad movie at all. The first part was very good but the second one could well have been a lot better in my opinion. Overall it was mostly about Shah Rukh Khan. I rarely appreciate his work but I will have to admit that his work was commendable:14:.

My ratings:
Seven and a half (7.5) out of ten (10).

'Heer-Ranjha' (an Indian Punjabi film):

Pretty boring I will have to say:22:........ Gurdaas Maan´s 'Waaris Shah' was a lot better I guess.

'Rann' (from Bollywood):

I was expecting it to be one of those Ram Gopal Verma films but it actually turned out to be quite a good film. This film perfectly epitomizes the fact how media rules in our subcontinental countries and how they make a hero out of zero and zero out of a hero in a days´s time. Daily routine Masala News has been criticized very heavily in it. Amitabh Bachchan´s work was admirable, particularly the speech he gave at the end in his TV show:14:.

The Hurt Locker - more of a documentary than a feature film, interesting watch if you're into the military and all that.

Is that the Harbhajan Mann one?

Was very disappointing, he should stick to those simple stories that have worked quite well in recent years, Heer Ranjha is way too heavy for him and his team to be able to pull off successfully.

To be honest any filmaker in the modern era will struggle to pull it off now, classical stories will just not work, I consider Devdas to be a disaster a few years ago.

Back to the Future II

It was on the Sky Movies channel...the best Back to the Future film from the trilogy in my opinion....great movie!!

Shutter Island

was pretty good.. not the best Scorsese and DiCaprio movie to date.. was sort of predictable but DiCaprio acted really well in it.. story was pretty good too.. liked it, think it'll be better on a 2nd watch

7.5/10
