Watched some movies in the past couple of days.
Gangs of New York - 8/10, DDL is an amazing actor.

Take This Waltz - 6/10, Boring movie, only watched it cuz it was made in my hometown of Toronto

The Rum Diary - 7/10, Not a bad movie but really wasn't going anywhere, the ending was disappointing. Johnny Depp as usual did not disappoint.

Shame - 7.5/10, very interesting movie about a sex addict and what happens when his sister moves in with him. Great acting by Michael Fassbender. A little slow but a good movie.

The 40 year old virgin - 7/10
40 year old virgin trying his luck and ends up marrying a not so old grandma. Bit predictable in the end , but still funny.

10 Things I Hate About You - 7/10
Teen romantic movie.

Supernova - Super cheesy sci-fi flick (has that 90's vibe to it). Wasn't expecting much but surprisingly held my attention to the end of the movie so have to give it a 8/10
Also, +1 Robin Tunney :D

Child's Play
7.5/10

silly premise. excellent execution. much better execution of a killer doll movie than the premise deserved.

"I Saw the Devil" - 8.5/10 : a 2010 released Koran movie with an intriguing plot, immaculate (lead) acting and enhancing soundtrack - I particularly like violence outbursts in arts, and as the majority of the Koran imports, you're rarely disappointed in that department... some would say a typical Kim Ji-woon signature.
One of his previous release, the wider known A Bittersweet Life (2005) had a different "taste" altogether though, but this one's nearly as good.

i absolutely loved the movie. how you have to become a monster to kill one. the dude playing the villain(he was the hero in oldboy another korean classic) was class. pure evil captured on screen.

Anybody watched any of the following movies?

Amazing Spider Man
Ice Age : Continental Drift
Ted
Madagascar 3
Prometheus
MIB 3

Amazing Spider Man has just set a Tuesday record, collecting $35 million approx (domestic) on it's very day.

Also, Ice Age Continental Drift opened early overseas and collected $ 80.3 million :O

people seriously interested in Spider-Man? The first one with Tobey Maguire was half decent BUT after that they were crap and I suspect this won't be a great deal different

Yep because Spidey is truly amazing :D

Andrew Garfield is a good young actor, I can't wait to watch it

I Saw the Devil was a good film no doubt.

By the way if you hit someone powerfully on his / her head with a hammer, he would die immediately which didn't happen in this film. Are Korean very strong by their heads or what?

I know it's just a film but may be I like the movies which look real.

Vicky Donor. It was awesome. Been almost a month since I watched it, wuld now like to see either Dark Knight rises or Spidey.

Death Sentence (2007)

Kinda mixed feeling after watching this film. Very good in parts at the same time very cliched for the rest (especially the overly artificial climax).

Loved the BGM of the film by Charlie Clouser (in particular during the bacon's breakdown in bathroom scene)

The Dictator - absolutely hilarious movie, all jokes. Very very Rated-R though :))

I watched 21 Grams a few days ago. Really great and captivating movie. Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Naomi Watts gave amazing performances. The movie really moved me. 9/10

Amazing Spiderman was truly amazing! Parker & Gwen had an awesome chemistry. Parker is far more emotionally unstable yet matures over time to emerge into a true super hero. This movie is set in a modern era with realistic characters with limitations. Don't expect the movie to mimic typical comic super hero set to wow the 8 yr olds. I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was worth every penny. My theatre clapped for full 2 mins at the end. Solid 8/10

Do you think he played the "villain" ? What I understood was that he in fact lost the chance to become one when he could have, and, at the end he regrets to not have chosen the "villain" path early on (if you get what I mean.)

In fact, I think that from the two movies I've seen of the same director, with the same lead actor, the other being A Bittersweet Life, there's no concept of traditional "hero" ("higher moral values embedding individual who transcends all obstacle to make the sane order prevail".)

Wonder if that's to annoy the said actor or is a real pattern in Kim Ji-woon movies...

^^The bad guy was evil. killing a pregnant woman. taunting the people while killing them. but the hero also did some pretty questionable things. the ending is pretty much he breaking down i guess because the villain succeeded in making him almost as monstrous as him. very complex film. all about the direction really. story is not the most original.

Did anyone watched "Savage"? Need to know/clarify abt a dialogue in the movie about mountains and Mohammed. Salma Hayek said this. I want to make sure if I heard it right and what it implies.

The Ghost Writer.

One of the best i've seen in a long time. Comes really close to the suspense that was created in Shutter Island. Keeps you gripped till the very end. Must watch.

9.5/10

People actually clap at the cinema? :))) :))) :)))

The Amazing Spider Man -- Amazing. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are awesome. 8.5/10

Ted - Hilarious! Mark Wahlsberg and Seth McFarlane are geniuses. 8/10

Bol Bachchan-Was truly awesome and hilarious.Ajay's acting was good and his English dialogues were simply mind-blowing.Overall, a very fine movie.9/10.

I believe it's a 'must' watch.

they actually clapped during the scene where hulk kicks loki's ass.

and there was crazy applause after inglorious ******** ended.

god .. movie was a big torture till that scene ..
it was a big relief when hulk started bashing loki :)))

The Amazing Spiderman- 5/10. Not a good reboot. It tried too hard to be like Nolan's Batman- dark & serious. Most of the action took place during night time. The director needs to realise Spiderman is'nt Batman.

Weak story. There was something missing. Uncle Ben's death is swept aside very quickly, Aunt May hardly has a role. The best perfomance came from Emma Stone.

Compared to Raimi's version, the wow factor from when Spidey is swinging around is not there- again because most of it takes place in the dark- the CGI has improved though.

The villian was OK. Good performance by Rhys Ifans.

Like I mentioned earlier, there is something missing. The sequel needs to step up big time.

Just saw it last night. Fully Agree with you.

'Agneepath' 2012 (Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra)

A few obvious flaws in the film but one tends to overlook them considering the performances from Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor. It was a menacing performance from all of them which made it for an exciting film.

Hrithik Roshan
He represented a common Indian in a film maybe for the third or fourth time only and it was encouraging to see that he can deliver such roles, too. He was very, very good and effective.

Sanjay Dutt
A good role from him after a long time. Made me proud being his fan and was suited perfectly for the role of a bad boy. I felt his role was a little too short as it should have been lengthened slightly. Some people would surely hate him seeing in that devilish look.

Rishi Kapoor
Acted a lot better than he probably did any of his films from his younger days as a leading actor.

My ratings:
8.0/10

Watched it in blu-ray yesterday. My views have improved even further. A great film it was:14:!

Somehow get the feeling that Sanjay Dutt´s character as Kaancha, his looks, his behaviour etc. was greatly inspired from the historical description of Pharaoh that opposed Prophet Moses.

Note: Now please don´t accuse me of blasphemy. I am by no means comparing Hrithik Roshan´s character to Prophet Moses (God forbid).

Disagree- the movie was pathetic

'Witness' (1985). Stellar film all round that deals with how a violent event causes an Amish and modern Western community to cross over, and wow Kelly McGillis was absolutely blinding in them days.

I expect Cocktail to be a great movie and a hit at the box office

Just watched Don 2 again (Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, director: Farhan Akhtar). Awesome movie, enjoyed it and Shahrukh Khan was brilliant as usual :D

'Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991'

Another James Cameron special:14:!

Just thought to relive some memories from the past. Very less nudity/sexuality which was only at the start and thus easy to skip. Once the story got going, it was all fine.

I will give it
8.5/10

Cocktail

8/10

Typical commercial movie. Some very funny, beautiful scenes along with some boring ones. Bit too long for my liking. Watching Deepika Padukone on big screen, especially in that red bikini was worth the time and money spent. :)) :22:

3:10 to Yuma : referenced on this thread by several people 2007-9

Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, agree with consensus opinion, very good

Beauty of having different views I reckon?

I don't watch much bollywood these days but Agneepath was good.

Liked Rishi Kapoor's character and the way it was written. Hrithik was good for his role and Sanjay and his new look fit his role really well.

'Bol Bachchan' 2012 (Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Prachi Desai, Asin Thottumkal)

80% of the scenes were greatly inspired from 'Golmaal' 1979 without any prior announcement, but the film was awesome:14: and hilarious:)).

Ajay Devgn´s role as a 'fool' was amazing and so was his English:)))!

It was hilarious what they dug out from the song "Jawaani Jaan-e-man Haseen Dilruba Miley doh (2) Dil Jawaan Nisaar Hogaya":)))!!!

Film gets slightly vulgar once Abhishek Bachchan appears as his own twin brother, due to which it misses out on 0.5 marks.

I will give it
8.5/10

how did you manage to avoid the movie for so long man?

One of the all time desi favourites! lol

There was a slight hint:).....

Just thought to relive some memories from the past.

I meant here that I watched it back in my childhood days.

Un Prophete(A Prophet) - A fantastic french crime drama with racial themes.

Animal Kingdom - Gritty and rather unsettling Australian crime drama about a family of criminals that is superbly acted.

Highly recommend both films.

Watched Ted last week and it was hilarious. Seth Macfarlene is a genius. I'd give it a 9/10

finally got around watching 21 Jump Street

Hilarious movie, loved it :))

Lots of swearing though

Had my 2012 taste of New Korean cinema...

Helpless (2012) is your typical mystery thriller...nothing special but still very good...a dudes wife goes missing and the movie traces his attempts to find her...the less one knows about the film the better...

Nameless Gangster (2012) is sort of the Korean Goodfellas movie...the lead is Min Sik Choi (Oldboy, I Saw The Devil) and he gives another outstanding performance...he shows what it means to be a survivor and it shows the importance of a family network in Korean culture...a really good movie and social commentary on SKorea's transition to democracy...

Howling (2012) is a good thriller with Kang Ho Song (Memories of Murder, SFMV) and Na Yeong Lee...believe it or not the hunt is on for a wolf who seems to be killing connected people...so your usual mystery thriller elements excellently done...a good watch...

Its not often I get moved by movies and Breathless (2009) moved me...one of the best SKorean films I've seen and thats saying something...best film on domestic violence and the unending cycle of violence I have seen...Yang Ik Joon directs and does the lead role...its supposedly semi autobiographical so its nice to see he escaped the cycle...this film is gritty, brutal and very heartfelt...its real too...nothing stylish here...think Pixote VS City of God and this would be Pixote...this film will stay with me for a while...

the dark knight rises ill give it 8.5 out of 10, the ending bothered me

SPOILERS HIGHLIGHT TO READ

personally i reckon bruce wayne should have died not just batman, the ending seems to be there so that both Christopher Nolan and warner bros can be happy. The movie could have easily ended with that really emotional scene with alfred along with robin/john blake getting the bat cave

Another Korean flick 'Moby Dick'...its SKorea's first attempt at a conspiracy thriller and its pretty standard fare...its no Parallax View or All The Presidents Men...fairly simplistic but nevertheless still fun to watch...its just I expect better of Korean cinema...glad they are tackling this genre though...reckon they can come up with something really impressive in the future...

Any of those 2012 films available via 'alternative means' yet?

cocktail, boring 4/10. saif is too old for such roles. deepika looked good that was pretty much it.

Dark Knight Rises --- It was a film of epic proportion yet somehow it was missing that finesse from Dark Knight probably due to the absence of Joker's brilliance. Still 9/10 from me.

I read your reviews and find them useful and watched many films you mentioned in this thread. However, if you could please add a year of film too with the film title that will be more useful for people like me to find them on internet.

Great work anyways. Right ppl?

dark knight rises - 7.5/10, decent film, didnt understand why they needed catwoman in there. really liked how bane didnt try to steal the limelight trying to compete with the joker, played his part well, the rest of the film was quite good.

unfortunately had to endure the worst cinema audio i have ever been subjected to.

SPOILER

the ending may bring closure to others, but i found it out of sync with the dark nature of nolan batman films. i would have liked something more sinister.

Dark Knight Rises - Was pretty good but the story line was lacking at the end of the day. 8/10 from me. I personally loved Anne Hathaway as catwoman, thought she did a great job.

Magic Mike - I love Channing Tatum (hottest man alive?) so had to go see this movie. I would give it a 7/10. I thought the movie would be all about eye candy (I mean, a movie about male strippers with a cast that includes Tatum, Matt Bomer & Alex Rodriguez) and well, I was definitely not disappoint. :afridi

But other than that, it had a decent story.

It is more of a 'chick flick' though.

Watching Movies in Ramazan?

Shame, Shame, Double Shame

:yk

Just Kidding V_M

:)

In the movie she says "If the mountain doesn't come to Muhammad then Muhammad will come to California". She's most likely referring to the phrase "If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad will go to the mountain". It means that if one cannot get one's own way, one must bow to the inevitable.
I noticed the movie had a lot of Muslim references like when the guy says something about some people going sunni which I found hilarious. Overall it was a pretty good movie.

the dark knight rises -9/10

bane's voice was just class. joker is still the best villain of the series followed by scarecrow. i kind of felt sorry for bane in the end.

SPOILER:I am happy they didnt end the series with batman dying. would have left a bad taste in the mouth. after all the seriousness, a happy ending was a welcome relief and not a cop out according to me.

dhol 9/10 for comedy :D

must watch priyadarshan has killed it, Comedy is his specialty!
