V/H/S - 7 out of 10

A neat Horror anthology made in found footage horror genre.

Not a "Trick R' Treat" stuff but still better than many craps that are masquerading as Horror films these days.

Channing Tatum is possibly the worst actor in Hollywood at the moment, not to mention he has aged quite a bit since his Step UP days. He however, has become quite a shrewd producer making movies targeting specific group of audience and raking in massive profits.

Personally, can't stand his voice and dialogue delivery.

friend says the same thing but said she liked the movie!

I was thinking of never ever watching it but from the sounds of it - the movie wasnt the worst thing out there. Or maybe the girls go brain dead after watching all those male strippers!
 
Saw 'Raid Redemption' ...its 100minutes of pure action...plots weak but that doesn't matter...well worth a watch...just wished I got to see it at the cinema...

Saw a new Korean flick called 'The Scent'...all i knew is it was a thriller and wasn't able to find a review of it anywhere...not particularly good nor thrilling...and certainly way below what this nation usually serves out filmwise...
 
Dark Knight Rises - Good but Dark Knight was more interesting

Gangs of Wassaypur - Not bad but some what disappointing after so much hype

Extremely disappointed after watching Bourne Legacy. Matt Damon was sorely missed. The plot, the acting, the dialogues seems to have been mish-mashed into one...utterly disappointed.

over action movie , too much action and fighting , not good story though
 
Battleship- meh! An entire movie based on the age old board game, the movie really has no significant plot, the dialogue is terrible and non existent most of the times, the action stolen directly from transformers movie series and characters shallow. Clearly a recruitment film, meant to awaken the american patriotism. 5/10

Hunger Games- Loved the costumes, and the concept, apparently is a rip off of a jap movie? Anyways, the girl who plays the main character is great in her role, the acting is stop on, the story moves on at a fast pace at times, but a refreshing story line. Havent read the book so dont know how good of an adaptation it is. 7/10

Avengers- Great movie, my favourite aspect was not the action, but the dialogues spoken between the heroes. Not a single boring moment, the way Tony Stark, Thor, Banner, CA went at each other. So glad they didnt screw this up. 9/10

And finally
Lorax- As expected another great movie based on the book by Dr Seuss. Perfect for little kids 10/10
 
Watched the Iranian movie The Seperation, was a simple but a powerful movie, loved it.

Decent Belgian thriller on the Albanian mafia...its a standard revenge flick but still decent enough to watch...

A blockbuster film from the director of memories of a murder The storyline is well told and engaging - definetly worth a watch

Highly stylised, superb acting and storyline Deserves all the applause it received

Watched new batman, liked it but thought 2 best, 1 just behind, this a bit behind,.

loved bane character, they used Nottingham walaton castle - yeeeeeeeeh, as barman house from the front

Batman 1 - 9.25/10
Batman 2 - 9.5/10
This new one - 8/10


currently watching pirates of the carribean 4, hour into it, good but needs more comedy

Watched Batman : The dark knight rises in the waterloo imax.

First time in an imax so extra special. And as far the movie it was fantastic....and so many twist and turns for a comic action movie.

Children of Heaven (1998)

A simple iranian story about how a young brother and sister, who resort to sharing a pair of shoes (with the boy having lost the girls only pair), whilst hiding this fact from their poor parents and how the boy goes to great lengths to to try and get her a new pair

A beautiful, simple but heart warming film With excellent performances This was gripping from beginning till end, a true masterpiece along with my earlier watch The color of paradise

Not to be missed

Bollywood remade this movie with the title Bumm Bumm Bole (2010)

I haven't seen the original version but since I already know the story, I won't enjoy it.

Ted. 9/10. Haven't laughed so much in a movie in a long time. Not a kiddy movie.

Step Up 4. 7/10. Same as the others. Best scene was the art gallery.

Magic Mike. 6/10. Average. Chick flick.

I remember watching zinda - the indian remake of oldboy before watching the original

Even tho it was a remake zinda wasnt a patch on oldboy and i enjoyed oldboy immensely

Im sure its the same with these two films Id recommend you to still watch children of heaven if you can

Its gruesome. Even the only sex scene is rough and dirty. But the violence is brutal. Certainly not recommended for people below 18. But if they can handle extreme brutality then maybe. There is an emotional component which makes the gore even more uncomfortable. It's a quality film though if you can stomach it.
 
saw Bourne Legacy, plot didn't really flow although the acting was good. No where near as good as the previous Bourne movies.

one of my favorite movies. highly recommended for any one who loves good cinema.
 
watched Shanghai last night.

certainly better than much hyprd gangs of wasaypur

emran hashmi s proving himself quite a good actor. first once upon a time in mumbai and now shanghai. he certainly more than just a serial kisser.
always like abhay deol and his courage of staying away from glamorous roles and big name movies. on top of that he is talented enough to pull it off.
kalki koechlin is another one with no glamour but brimming with talent. dev d, gir; in yellow boats and now this. she is no katrina or kareena but i am looking forward for her next movie.

Hey akamaka if you get the chance I would strongly recommend you read the books :).

I read them before watching the movie, and whilst the movie was quite good, the books are fantastic!
 
A separation (2011)

Iranian oscar winning drama about a middle class couple. The wife wants a divorce as she wants to leave iran for a better life with their 11 year old daughter, the husband wants to stay to look after his elderly senile father, with their daughter stuck in the middle

A compelling film which focuses on several of irans social systems - its legal system, class and gender divide as well as religion and politics Its about imperfect people and tries to provide a grey shade to the proceedings - the film doesnt take sides and lets the viewer be the judge. It Starts off really well and is gripping for the most part However it gets lost in its own tangled web in the last third with the revelation of several bits of vital information

For the most part very good but not as great as its made out

saw avengers the other day after hearing much hype about it, was a bit disappointed tbh, tired story line of aliens who want energy source that has been done millions of times, and 2.5 hours is way too long. pretty average film imo.

felt like i was missing out considering how many people liked it, watched it and realised i wasnt really.
 
Saw 'Brat'...a Russian movie about St Petersburg in the 90s...pretty raw movie and certainly represent the chaotic time this was for Russians...worth a watch...

'Memory of a Killer' is a Belgian flick and is actually a good thriller...better than I expected...the main character is a hitman with Alzheimers and movie is about what happens when he is given his assignment...Belgian cinema is actually pretty decent...

Miss Bala is a Mexican flick about a normal girl who's a contestant in a beauty pageant who ends up getting caught in between the War On Drugs...really good film cos you really do sense her helplessness of the situation and understand the corruption of all sides and lawlessness...and its loosely based on a true story...that of Miss Sinaloa 2008...

Amazingly good film:14::14:!!!! Scared a hell out of me at times:O....... :boom:!

What a fabulous film:14:! It highlights an important issue. I am myself very critical of some of the laws (of different countries) but the problem in reality is that there are no better alternative other than the law itself.

I will give it
7.3/10 (one point extracted due to vulgarity, sexuality and nudity).

Loved the theme of blurring of lines between heroes and villains.
 
what about besharami in hollywood films? should one really watch it as muslim?
 
saw german turkish film gigen di wand (head on) the other day, pretty regular story but with mentally unstable characters, some great acting imo esp by the lead guy birol unel.

not one to watch with the parents tho but a solid effort and worth it, 7/10.
 
Saw The Conversation in the week. Brilliantly quiet, grey and paranoid, yet piano-laden and deceptively hopeful.

The Green Mile on Thursday night, in Michael Clarke Duncan's memory. Dripping with quality.

Oldboy is on Film4 tonight, going to dip in.
 
Shadow Dancer -thought it was really good. It was about a woman IRA member becoming a part of MI5. Set in the late 80's - very realistic.
 
Just watched "The Raid", this movie is worth all the hype, the daddy of all action movies.

Mad Dog is one crazy MoFo!

And just think of the stunt men in the film that would have been injured during the making!
 
I am Salman Khan fan and I made made the mistake of watching Ek tha tiger. It is a very overrated movie.Only action is good ,story gets 0 points.

I dislike that part too, as you might have noticed how I extracted a mark in my previous post from a Hollywood film to express my disappointment, but such scenes can still be skipped. I think a film per se has a different aim than to offering sexuality, nudity or vulgarity only. If I were to watch a film for this alone then I think I would better be off with pornography.

I never used to watch Hollywood films till a year back or so and still I don´t think I have watched more than 10 in total, but in the last five years or so Bollywood has only gone from bad to worse and from that to worst in all respect, including vulgarity etc. and also storyline, acting and all, and watching it now is a waste of time only.

Without entertainment life becomes very dull and boring, albeit with limits.
 
Watched 'Raaz 3' today in 3D, bakwaas picture, saade teen sou wasted.....

There was one scene where a priest is be-headed while trying to save Esha & her along with Emraan Hashmi rush back to her place n smooch passionately with a song in the background.. WTH... :facepalm:

Good Colombian flick on a rural girl who decides to become a drug mule...its impressive cos its realistic...Catalina Marino is a really good actress and despite the fact that the film looks for sympathy for the mule they could easily have exaggerated everything...but chose not to which was a good choice...

Dog Eat Dog

Foot soldier in Cali Colombia with two others goes to collect money for his boss...the guy they collect from dies...one guy finds the money and keeps it without telling the others...what follows is the mob bosses pursuit of that money in addition to the mob boss avenging the death of his godson...stylish movie and enjoyable but nothing special...

Do miss this country...one of my favourites that I have been to...
 
'Matrix 1999'

Over-hyped and over-rated I felt:boom:. I won´t dismiss the action and effects but not much of a story to be honest. I think I have finally opened my account of watching a not-so-great Hollywood film which is a landmark in itself:).

Some good laughs and good work by the actors

Shame - A film about a 30 something sex addict whos life spirals out of control with the arrival of his emotionally unstable sister

A compelling and riveting film beautifully shot, a great charcter study on the torture and torment of two broken souls- contains graphic sex and nudity

The Raid: Redemption

10/10.

You want to see an action movie, this one is legendary. It's an Indonesian film, but you can easily find a title with dubbing or english subtitles. I recommend watching with subtitles as the dubbed version is wonky as always.

Action movie fans need to watch this. The fight scenes are ridiculously flawless.

Waiting for Dredd.

Essentially the same premise as The Raid but set in the future and with Karl Urban staring.

And no they didn't steal the idea the Dredd script was written first.
