Desolation of Smaug - very poorly made movie. Meant only for Tolkien fanatics for myself and even I found it hard to sit through it all.

The Lion King is a brilliant film. Ageless.

The fact they're even doing The Hobbit as a trilogy is disgraceful really. Hasn't Peter Jackson got enough money as it is? It's not even a long book. Should have just been a single film, at the most.

It's a trilogy?!

Memories of Murder (2003)

A Korean Crime, Drama and Murder Mystery. It's about a guy who kidnaps girls, rapes and kill them but who did that no one knows even detectives were unable to catch the killer. Based on true events occurred in 1986. Good movie

7/10

sounds good , does it have english version also ?

Yeah it should have been a single film. Kind of loses intensity when spread out into 3 films. Ruined it completely.

Despicable Me 2 :)

Really enjoyed it. Good fun !

Captain Phillips
8/10

A brilliantly tense, gripping thriller based on a true story about how four Somali pirates hijacked an American cargo ship. Tom Hanks is on screen for almost every minute and is brilliant especially his mental breakdown towards the end which is totally believable. Directed by Paul Greengrass, it has the annoying shaky cam for sometime. But it's handled well. You even feel a teensy bit sorry for a couple of the pirates sometimes namely the leader Muse (amazingly portrayed by debutante Barkhad Abdi) who is the only sensible person from the group and Bilal who is a kid clearly way in over his head. It maintains your attention all the way till the end and thankfully there is no scene of "American heroism" from the protagonist.

The wolf of wall street
9/10

Absolutely hilarious film and top notch acting from Leo and Jonah Hill. But it did feel a tad bit long as well had excessive nudity and sexual content. Most of that stuff could have been cut out and focused more on the plot.

Dhoom 3

To avenge his father's death, a circus entertainer trained in magic and acrobatics turns thief to take down a corrupt bank in Chicago. Two cops from Mumbai are assigned to the case.

The action sequences were brilliant as expected from Dhoom franchise. Uday Chopra looks good only when he plays " Ali ".

Katrina was " liquid electricity " in the kamli number. She deserved more screen time.

Amir was solid as usual

There is clear reference to " Prestige " movie, also " Now I see you " but still its watchable. Its a visual delight.

Now you See me
7.5/10

A brilliantly entertaining caper thriller. Good direction, editing and pacing hides some plot holes. Two fabulous acts are followed by a third act which is a bit underwhelming. Great acting too especially by Jesse Eisenberg who got a rather underwritten character, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine as an unpleasant old coot and the classy Morgan Freeman whose "smartest person in the room" persona is subverted well in this film.

Watched Trollhunter & The Host the other day for the second time- two great foreign movies.

Fantastic movie , need more like this.

^ havent seen it yet but the main reason is money. Warner Bros knows that a hobbit movie will make a billion regardless of how good it is. Intially it was ment to be 2 movies. In order to fill it up they are going over Tolkeins side notes and revision. He wrote the Hobbit then spent 20 years righting lord of the rings. In the Hobbit novel for example, gandalf dissapears a lot then comes back. The movie in order to make time shows us what he was doing at the time

I acknowledge that money is a major factor behind the production of three films but even so, it is still quite an ingenious tactic because the directors obviously realised that people would watch the film regardless of its quality, simply because of desiring to watch the whole of The Hobbit and feeling that they wouldn't be able to understand the relationship between the first and third films without watching the second (despite it not having a significant amount of new information).

By the way, don't the films include information that isn't even included in the original The Hobbit book.

The Hobbit is going to be a trilogy?

Yep, at least as far as I am aware the directors are planning on doing so.

Regardless, I watched Johnny English yesterday - another one of Rowan Atkinson's brilliant performances. Personally, I'd rate the film as a 9 out of 10 due to it being hilarious. :)

Saw the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Brilliant.. BRILLIANT.. BRILLIANT!

Loved it. Best movie since Gravity this year. Then again I am a huge LOTR fan and well if you are not into that stuff, you just wont enjoy something like this fully.

I thought it was really well done! Funnily though, I watched it the day after I saw Dhoom 3. So I dont know.. It was kind of like being served a fantastic feast after having tripe for an appetizer so maybe thats why I enjoyed it more.

mandela: long walk to freedom

was okayish, idris elba was decent

film of the year for me was Rush

The Bleeding House

A stranger with mysterious intentions comes to stay the night at a secluded country home, but what he finds inside is a family torn apart by a violent past and a secret more deadly than he expected.

The plot was weak, so was the screen play.
It started of well and expectations was built, but could not sustain the interest because lack of plot.

An entertaining murder mystery about a kid who gets killed and her 12 year old sister who happens to be a problem child is accused of the murder. A very interestingly developed movie as it's not scary but has some good suspense and truly weird characters including a morbidly obese landlord who happens to be a pedophile. The identity of the killer is a surprise and the movie turns into an odd dark comedy for a death scene before a truly disturbing ending.

The Wolf of the Wall Street. Scorsese and DiCaprio have produced another masterpiece, this time together. One of the most commanding performances by DiCaprio on the big screen. A role full of swag and authority! Full points to Scorese for taking on a such a dull topic (dull for most people who can't understand complexities of the wall-street and try to stay away) and turning into a lively movie. A three hour long movie on such a boring topic without even a single boring frame is truly remarkable! The light-hearted comedy has ensured that the viewers keep enjoying the movie.

The movie is from Wolf's POV. Scorsese hasn't covered the people who lost their savings on the stocks. It's a true story but not a documentary, more like a biography written from the big wall streets wolf's eye.

A tad more nudity than I would have liked.

A must watch I had say!

Watched Hobbitt part 2.

I don't think it was as good as the first one and I fell asleep for about 30 mins of the film :) Some brilliant special effects, but it just seemed to drag on a bit.

Also known as Communion?

The secret life of Walter Mitty - It was pretty random to be honest. But it has some breathtaking scenery in it.

sounds interesting !!!

Watched Rogue a few nights ago. A competent horror film about a saltwater crocodile who stalks a group of tourists in Australian waters, although it was really too frightening at all apart from a few scenes. Certainly better than Jaws though, which is simply tremendously boring and incorporates ridiculous music which are supposed to evoke fear.

Wow I have been waiting for a movie like this! A brilliant horror movie with a pitch black sense of humour. It consists of a dysfunctional family gathering at a farmhouse. The family starts quarrelling but then gets attacked by a trio of masked maniacs who start hunting the family down one by one. One of the sons' girlfriend though turns out to be a bit of a fighter.

Full of twists and turns and a lot of violence with a devilish wink especially a scene where dude is walking around with an arrow in his back as if nothing's the problem. Probably the best horror film of the year. Cruelly underrated. Please watch this one. Enormous repeat value to boot.

This is the End - 1.5/5

Just some funny parts, overall bad movie with horrible script.

yeup heard a lot of good things about this movie. hopefully will watch it tomorrow

Got Life of Pi for Christmas so watched it on a big HD widescreen TV.

A really beautiful visual experience, a film that tackles the relationship between humans and animals in a unique way, and some nice literary/metafictional themes as well - ultrasubjectivity, book within a book, writers and storytellers.

The pluralist and God stuff though was all a bit unnecessary I thought. It would have been the same narrative without it. Unless Yann Martel was just trying to annoy fundmentalist Hindus/Muslims/Catholics by making his main character a gentle combination of all three, in which case I would support him.

All in all an 8/10 and another stellar piece of work from the versatile Ang Lee.

I love home invasion movies. I feel Strangers is another under-rated gem.

Chat Room

A group of teenagers encourage each other's bad behavior in a chatroom "Chelsea Teens!".

The concept of the movie was new. It starts of well , builds up interest. Middle part was a bit slow.
Not bad for seeing once , just because of the new concept.

A brilliant movie about the rivalry of two formula 1 racers- James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Terrific movie with great racing sequences and surprising amount of humour and pathos. Chris Hemsworth shows some genuine talent and Daniel Bruhl shows why he can be one of the best actors out there. Way better than cookie-cutter feel good sports dramas because this one puts two heroes against each other and makes you root for both of them. Highly recommended!

hehe, i just finished this movie minutes ago. I don't know much of the technicalities but i enjoyed this film more than Prisoners or American Hustle.

Hans Zimmer's soundtrack doubles the thrill.

'Dhoom 3' (2013)

1. I find it funny how they always show in the Bollywood films that the police of countries such as America seeks help of an Indian cop to catch an Indian criminal committing crime in their country. But it´s understandable and forgivable given that the films are after all about the Indians.

2. This film hardly had anything to do with the 'Dhoom' series due to two things:

a) The mental and emotional aspect of this third film of aforementioned series.

b) The fact that they hardly showed how exactly he was able to conduct all those robberies
by entering the bank´s building and how he did all the stuff inside it
.......

3. The film seemed a bit confusing and nonsense till 'that' twist was introduced.

All in all, very over-hyped and is not amongst the best films of Aamir Khan.

Elysium - decent if unmemorable futuristic sci fi film starring matt damon

6/10

Brokeback Mountain - excellent film about two guys forbidden love and how they try to keep it under wraps for over 20 years starring Legder and Gyllenhaal

9/10

In India people like these kind of movies

Elevator

Racism collides with corporate greed when nine strangers are trapped in a Wall Street elevator, and one of them has a bomb. They will do anything to survive.

Good movie.

Yes. One of the worst movies of Amir Khan. But still Amir's acting was Top class which alone made me watch the movie completely.

Also you don't feel any confusions or suspense, if you had watched 'Prestige'. I Knew the moment when Jackie Shroff showed the Trick, that kinda 'twist' was coming.

Uday Chopra as usual was Bakhwas( he was decent in the first Dhoom though). That lady officer was only there to show some sizzling scenes for Uday.

My disappointment is more related to the hype and expectations. The one of Hrithik Roshan was miles better. I haven´t watched the first one though.

'Special 26' was the best Bollywood film of year 2013, then comes 'Krrish 3', and then the others such as 'Ranjhanaa', 'Madras Cafe', 'Ghanchakkar' in no particular order. 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela' wasn´t bad in my opinion.

'Chennai Express' was the most annoying film of the last year!

12 Years a Slave

One of the best movies i have seen in a long time and also one of the hardest to watch. I don't have to words to write about it but it was soul crushing.

Should win a bag full of Oscars.

Sounds absolutely must watch !!!!

watched it last night . good film, not scary imo, very good realistic violent film.

i knew the two would be, how would you put it - the bad ppl, but the last guy on phone - that got me, completely forgot about it.

Watched The Conjuring.

A horror flick based on true events.

It seemed fairly similar to other possession type horror films, but nonetheless was quite scary.

Decent film

WTH? It's quite easily the funniest movie of the past few years. The funniest since pineapple express.

Kai Po Che. One of the few Indian movies that I truly enjoyed .

About a group of childhood friends interested in cricket. They open their academy. Explores some good and relevant themes such as youth unemployment, sectarian violence and friendship.

Watched "Prisoners"

Brilliant movie...I recommend it. 9/10. Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman were great....

12 years a slave decent all round film with some memorable moments and a great performance by micheal fassbender, i think mcqueen has given the film a certain class by implying so much in certain scenes at the expense of a more gritty or stacato narrative. i wanted to like it more than i did in the end, little things like brad pitts performance (one of his weakest, imo, detracted from it), but given the subject matter i think it was, again i use the word, very classily handled, a solid 7.5/10

Just had a busy Christmas Period watching a number of Movies:

The Resident 6/10
Indiana Jones-The crystal skull 6/10
Green Mile 8/10
Dhoom 3 4/10

Jennifer's Body

A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?

The Tower (2012). Its a korean movie, I went in not watching the trailer (and not knowing much about the film) and based on reviews. The CGI in the movie is amazing, the fire doesnt look fake. The movie is great. Worth a watch.

Basically a Korean version of The Towering Inferno but way better. Great movie.

'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' (2013)

An amazingly dull and boring film and it being three hours long didn't help. A torture! No offence intended to Milkha Singh though, but the film wasn't any good.

I have a general dislike for films about careers because they usually turn out to be boring, and this was no different. I don't think I have ever liked any such film apart from 'Iqbal' (2005).
