Gravity - the only regret is that i didn't watch it in the cinema. i've never been so captivated whilst watching a movie before. simply magnificent. i felt as if i was there and it looked so realistic

Who's a fan of Marvel cinematic universe? My favourite films thus far have been Iron Man 1, Captain America the first avenger and of course the The Avengers itself.

L.A. Confidential 7.5/10

Good movie about the corruption in P.D's, Russell Crowe was fantastic and Exley also did a fine job.

2 States 8/10

The movie is good by b'wood standards a romance-drama film Arjun Kapoor is turning into a good young prospect and its good to see young actors settling in to save us from the dross served by the Khan's over the years.

L A Confidential is a master piece.

You give a Bollywood movie higher rating than la confidential?

Can't believe I hadn't watched this movie before despite hearing about it from almost everyone I know.

Silence of the Lambs.

Decided to watch it last night. Man, what a movie. Haven't watched such a fantastic film in ages. Hats off to everyone associated with this masterpiece.

I'm having hard time deciding which one was better, Silence of the Lambs or Psycho..both are truly fantastic movies. It's like deciding who's better in tests..Dhoni or Kamran Akmal?:adnan

Hot Fuzz. Great movie. Thoroughly entertaining. 9/10
Brooklyn's Finest. Not bad. 7/10
Pi. Not bad. 7/10
The Bank Job. 7.5/10
Closed Circuit. Probably the best of the lot(that I watched over the weekend). 9/10

great movie but pretty weird at the same time..:afridi

Amazing Spider-Man 2, 7.5/10 Great Movie, at times there was too much going on but i felt the execution was great in the end while the story-line seeds were planted for the epic show-down between peter and harry in the next movie. The dude playing Harry Osbourn was very very impressive. Loved the chemistry between peter and gwen stacy.

"Las Brujas De Zuggaramurdi" - 5 out of 10

Expected something in the lines of "El día de la Bestia" (The Day of the Beast) a master-piece by the same director (Alex De La Iglesia), but was let down by this film's last 30 minutes. Very difficult to categorize this flick in any established genre (there is a sense of half-baked script by the director with poorly handled elements of Horror/Fantasy/Crime/Comedy etc).

Ok for one time watch!

Compliance 9/10 A very disturbing watch

Goes to show that under severe pressure and orders from authority figures, people can lose all sense of rational and forget the difference between what is right and wrong

Hannibal (2001). A very disappointing sequel to the masterpiece - The Silence of the Lambs.

Didn't knew that it's a sequel to The Silence of the Lambs. The former was excellent and gripping. Have to say Anthony Hopkins acted well in Hannibal too but story was pretty weak. I'm a fan of Hopkins.

Killer Joe 6.5/10

The latter part just saved the movie also i like the accent of Joe its story of a boy who is in debt and wants to pay it through his mother's insurance policy but there is a twist

All I can say is KFC :)

The Purge- Arguably the most annoying child characters ever

The two children completely ruined the movie

I think acting wise Silence of Lambs was better.

Mystery wise Psycho has edge.

'The Amazing Spider-Man' (2012)

Wow, quite a film! Wonderful stuff!

I didn't get one thing though, did the guy keep the promise that he made to the girl's father or did he break it? And if he broke it, what exactly then was the purpose of that promise at all?

Maybe its sequel might tell us whether the promise was kept or broken.

I think there is something wrong with me perhaps. I end up liking and giving positive reviews most of the times, and only give a negative one only if a film happens to be a very, very, very bad one!

One thing that didn´t make much sense was the conversion of the villain onto being a villain. The explanation behind it seemed pretty lame and poorly constructed one. Hey, but I like Spiderman´s stunt etc. though. Not a bad superhero in my opinion.

The whole Promise thing plays in to the second movie you need to watch the sequel. I actually loved the Amazing Spiderman 2012, it was unique compared to previous incarnations of spidey movies on the big screen the big emphasis was on peter parker as a human being his origination, i enjoyed watching the development of his character especially the transition he made to spiderman. It was a different take, when i first watched it i did not appreciate the work of the writers/director i think it was mainly because spiderman 1/2 staring toby macguire was still in my mind but when i watched it the second time round years later i was able to have more admiration for the movie.

From Hell

In Victorian Era London, a troubled clairvoyant police detective investigates the murders by Jack The Ripper.

7 / 10

Kramer vs Kramer 8.5/10

A married couple with a kid separates becuase of their differences and then go to court for child's custody....... a must watch for parents who are going this route the kid "Billy"was brilliant

The Men who stare at goats 5.5/10

Reveals a dark side of army there is a US Brigade namely Earth Battalion who works on the psychic powers to make super humans, the plot was ok but i dont have a liking for these kind of movies

Captain America 2: Winter Soldier 8/10 Possibly the best movie ever from marvel studios, it must have taken some serious balls to go with an intriguing plot which revolved around the tone of a thriller. Was left very surprised at the focus on character development and story.

The traditional vintage Marvel esque action and CGI consistent in all the previous movies by marvel studios took up only the last 1/4 of the movie while most of the action was grounded. Simply Superb, i urge all PPers to go see it even if you don't like super-heroes you will be pleasantly surprised. What's interesting now is, where do marvel go from here? Captain America 2 has set the bar for me. Will they continue to make atypical superheroes like this? i don't think they will be able to make it work in Avengers 2 but it will be interesting to see if we will see similar movies in future releases from marvel studios.

The characters were fantastic loved how they all shared distinct back-stories which culminated in a common goal, everyone had a purpose to be in the movie nothing felt meaingless at all and while the movie does not revolve around the "winter soldier" entirely his emptional connection with captain america added a dynamic element to their battles. The story itself was very polished with some unexpected twists and turns, for me the fighting was the best i've seen from a marvel movie its funny that i am saying that since the action was atypical to previous releases.

A Game Changer release from marvels had me on the edge of my seat with some seriously compelling stuff, can't recommend it enough

My favourite quotes from the movie:

Steve Rogers (Captain America) to Nick Fury:

"You're holding a gun to everyone on Earth and calling it protection"

"I thought the punishment usually came after the crime"

"This isn't freedom, this is fear"

This is the 1997 Danish original which was remade shot-for-shot by the same director in English. A movie to annoy, depress and make you frustrated in which it succeeds with full distinction. Exceedingly boring in places but some amazing acting and palpable suspense makes up for it. Gets gimmicky in places particularly the ending which destroys all the movie rules of a home invasion thriller. Ultimately Haneke is criticizing people for enjoying such movies while himself making such a movie.

NOT an entertaining movie but which can be watched if you want to spend the rest of the day angry.

7/10

Captain America 2
9/10
Was a very good movie and is probably the best superhero movie(barring Avengers) since The Dark Knight.
Had a very good story line and the action was sick but the only minor flaw was that it lacked the darkness but all Marvel movies do.
Cap's fighting skills were shown in this and the Winter soldier was good too. I thought I wasn't gonna like falcon but he turned out to be a good character and Widow was widow

I'm not going to fall into the hype around Captain America.

Just don't see it ever being as good as people are making it out to be.

It didn't need to be but they created a movie with an old school thriller tone without sacrificing the grandeur of a typical marvel action adventure, atleast now with some of the future releases they will not be afraid of going down this route because it worked with captain america 2. I think Captain America 2 was better then Avengers but comparable to IronMan 1, i wouldn't compare any super hero movie to the Dark Knight it would be totally unfair given how unique it was in a league of its own.

Dirty Harry 1971

Enjoyed it but there is a slight disadvantage of watching an old classic that some times many of those concepts get over used in subsequent years. This is especially true for an action film. Other wise acting and plot of this movie was excellent. I would give it 9/10.

The Legend of hell house (1973)

7/10

A spooky, creepy haunted house movie written by Richard Matheson based on his novel. Roddy McDowall steals the show especially at the end. Worth watching once if you like haunted house movies with a great atmosphere and some chilling moments.

I've read the book this was based on. I think. Hell house was just ridiculous in terms of the things that happened there. Written like a true story which makes it even more disturbing.

Matheson toned down the sexual and violent content to make it a more creepy and sombre horror movie. It's still disturbing and the content is there just not as blatant.

Everything worked which is why I enjoyed it a lot. Didn't think Cap 1 was very good tbf but this was v. good. TDK is among the GOAT movies so you're right there I guess.

Red Light

Dr. Margaret Matheson and her partner, Tom Buckley are the world's foremost investigators of

paranormal phenomena. Professional skeptics, they have debunked dozens of fraudulent mind readers,

ghost hunters, faith healers and the like by detecting what Matheson calls 'red lights', subtle clues to

the trickery behind each of these 'supernatural' occurrences.

Rewatched "Sideways" last night....with a glass of wine of course. Really a gem of a movie. Paul Giamatti is so underrated. Watching him I wondered why he wasn't cast in place of Christian Bale in "American Hustel", would have been a natural in that role.

In any case, the story consists of a week in the life of a lonely middle aged divorced school teacher also a struggling writer who takes his best friend out for a fun relaxing time a week before that friends wedding touring the wine country in Napa Valley California, tasting wines and just having a jolly good time. The friend however treats this time out as his last chance to get tail and proceeds to get himself involved in a fling, leaving the friend frustrated and further depressed about his own inadequacies.

The movie is a beatiful mixture of melancholy and comedic relief. The protagonist is a sad and at times pathetic character but there is something very earnest and congenial about him. Giamatti plays the role to perfection, his outbursts hilarious, his emotional meltdowns devastatingly real. He still hopes that his ex-wife who he is still in love with will eventually reconcile with him and when he hears that she has gotten married, the news just tears him apart. The most emotionally touching scene is when he learns that she has gotten pregnant with her new husband, while she never had kids with him, his congratulations to her after hearing the news is heart breaking. On the other hand, the most hilarious scene comes when he goes inside a house to retrieve his friends wallet after he had just fled the scene being caught having sex with the wife of an unsuspecting husband. The ensuing revelation inside the house and the chase is nothing I've ever seen in a movie. Had me in knots.

Alxender Payne is a different kind of director, belonging to an older breed in the style of Robert Altman. His treatment of the story is refreshingly simple yet effective with deep undertones of self doubt, guilt, wasted life and eventually some semblance of redemption, leaving a lasting impression just like any good wine. Great movie.

Does this have a new version or sequel ?

No. It's the only adaptation of Matheson's novel. Story is somewhat similar to The Haunting which consisted of 4 people locking themselves up in a haunted house. But this one is worth a watch and there are good prints available. It was nominated for best horror film in 1974 saturn awards but was up against The Exorcist so...

Raid : The Redemption 8/10

Good movie , full of entertainment and suspense from start to end

Jinn.

Thought I'd support some Muslim film makers out there.

Boy what a load of rubbish this movie was. Thought it was going to be a horror flick. Came back and checked on imdb that it is somehow classified Thriller. And is PG rated. Worst movie I have seen in the cinemas for a long time.

Worst yet the crowd in Bahria Pindi thought it was wise to bring their five year old kids to the 10pm screening. The hell is wrong with some people.

Yes , it is tough to be nominated with exorcist :)

Is there any Good movie made on Jinn ?

I will watch it on tuesday with my brother... since one ticket is free because of djuice/telenor scheme. Trailer did not look bad

Parker 6/10

A thief takes revenge on his ex-partners after they almost killed him as he doesn't wants to be part of the next big deal....

just an ok watch

Cure (1997)

A mind-screwy, Lynchian film from Japan about a detective investigating similar murders where the murderer is found near the victim, fully aware he has killed the victim but not sure why. Focuses more on the psychological horror rather than the mystery aspect of it as it becomes clear halfway through what's the mystery. Worth watching for good acting and if you like thought provoking murder mysteries.

7/10

@Leathers, how many horror movies do you watch in a day? Is it as important as your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Watch one in the morning, one during mid day and one at night time.

Terminator 4 - 1/10

Was gonna give it a 4.5 for some decent set pieces but a naked cgi Arnold Schwarzenegger was the last straw

utter crap film, just watch Christan bales rant on set instead. Even that's far more amusing then this film, not to mention a lot quicker

Come on dude. I have posted on this thread after a couple of weeks atleast. There was a point when I did watch that many horror movies though. A very dark period indeed. Wasn't on PP though then. :|

:)))) lmao when-ever i take a look in this thread i see like a chain of posts from you reviewing so many different horror movies, just wonder how on earth you manage to watch so many in a short space of time :yk a very unique talent right there Lol

I try and see the good in bale in all of this, just shows how dedicated he is to his craft :yk

same, but judging from the audio I'm pretty sure he tries to assault that guy at one point, bit too much.

Still better than the movie though :srt

In that video apology he said that it never got anywhere close to being physical. He accepts his mistake though so fair enough :))

The movie was awful man i went into the wrong terminator screen where i was watching like the last 5 minutes of the movie :))) after i realised that i got out to find the right screen.

Was left dissapointed though, it was bound to happen. We were lucky to get 3 excellent terminator movies in a row and the 4th one was bound to be awful. I heard there will be another reboot in the future

I think its one of the good Bollywood movies i watched and liked after 3 idiots.
The story is simple yet interesting. Each character is appealing and excites you.
I think its a typical romance based love story but with different masala flavour.
A must watch

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
8.5/10

A brilliant companion piece to the equally superb Swedish original. Fincher is a true great in the directing field. Rooney Mara ups the edginess of Lisbeth as compared to Noomi Rapace whose Lisbeth had more vulnerability. Daniel Craig shows his versatility. You won't think Bond for one second. Stellan Skarsgard is superb as Martin but cannot match the actor in the original who IMO was perfect.

^^^

Great movie, didn't get the appreciation it deserved. How about that soundtrack. Cold and eerie, an amalgamation of haunting folksy sounds and electronica. A masterpiece in its own right.

I watched the Fincher version first so couldn't really get into the original. I found Fincher's movie to be more slick, well paced and impactful. Starting from the opening music video/intro of Zepplin's "Immigrant Song". A brilliant artistic summation of the whole story.

Finally started watching some sensible movies.huh?? :))

I do watch commercial stuff from time to time. :danish

Yeah the opening credits were superb. Reminded me of Fight Club. Fincher always has unique opening credits. Remember Panic Room? The little moments in the original always appealed to me like Lisbeth looking genuinely concerned and even horrified when Mikael came with a head wound. Plus, that scene where the killer offers water to Mikael who thanks him and the killer then remarks how just cause I was nice to you means you think I'm weak or something like that. Very chilling. I even liked how the killer met his end in the original with Lisbeth letting him suffer. But I would say Christopher Plummer made a much better Henrik. Warm, kind and caring.

My favorite quote from the Fincher version is by Vanger when he sees Mikael slipping away but instead of going after him he politely asks him to come in for a drink.

"The fear of offending is stronger than the fear of pain."

wanted to see this one for a long time.

Since you gave full 10 , I guess will watch soon :)

The World' End 5/10

5 freinds unite together to fulfill their desire to complete their pub crawl and there comes some sci-fi stuff in it. not a great film after 20-30 mins the next chunk is very boring though it ends in a decent way.

It a great movie.I gave it a full ten because you will not expect to see something like this from Pakistan. This doesn't make this any less great though.Fantastic piece of work.Definitely worth a watch.

What I like the most about it that it is a progressive movie. It give hope that all is not lost whilst exposing those individuals that do horrific crimes and then hide themselves behind their so called version of Islam.Tackles with a lot of Issues that plague our society nowadays at once and gives a reality check to all its audience.
