9/10

WOW!!! The most badass action movie ever! The last 45 minutes are a proper 15/10.

Can't wait to see this. Is it better than 1?

Silver Linings Play Book - an ok movie, made tolerable by a wonderful soundtrack, e.g. "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder. I just don't get the hype surrounding Jennifer Lawrence. Yes, she is cute and easy on the eyes, but her overacting and exaggerated facial expressions make it so much harder to like her (and I really wanted to like her). The movie seemed like another Scorsese rip off only dealing with touchy feely personal psychological issues, always a favorite of the critics. I can crib more about this movie but wasn't expecting much of it anyways.

I thought Cooper was amazing in it.

The reason why I say this is because one of my best friends has bipolar.

This guy absolutely nails it. It is exactly how he has portrayed it and for that I think he deserves accolades and respect. There is no over acting like what you would see others do or worse yet what someone like Shahrukh would interpret and portray it as.

He keeps it simple. And he keeps it eeringly real. Disturbingly so.

But i agree overall that is is an overrated film. Just think that Cooper deserves some accolades for his performance. He ain't just a well built blonde hair blue eyed eye candy actor.

The kitchen fight is probably the best action sequence I have ever seen. It's 15 minutes of 'cannot-take-your-eyes-off-the-damn-screen' mayhem. It flopped in the US but then again, Americans think Transformers is a good action film.

You should watch Richard Gere in Mr.Jones, Nic Cage in Matchstick Men and Nicholson in As good as it gets. Each portrayal is brilliant in their own right, Gere's being the most realistic but unfortunately packaged in a mediocre movie. I liked Coper's acting in this movie though the salvation part was a bit unrealistic and over the top, almost Hindi moviesque. He is definitely one of the better leading men in Hollywood.

I saw the first 30 minutes of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider for the millionth time.

Good acting, but horribly predictable storyline.

Edge of Tomorrow - Tom Cruise/Emily Blunt

Surprisingly good sci film about time loops, i dont want to discuss much about this film because i think the less you know the better

Please Please nobody think 'ahhhhh another Tom Cruise action flick'

This has been his best film in some years

8.5/10

Nicholas in MM is good. Probably his best performance. Nicholson is a genius and pulls everything off with great aplomb.

'Go Goa Gone' (2013)

Bollywood has never quite been the best at making horror films, due to which I would review it lightly and say that it was quite good.

The actors lost in that island however acted as if nothing is happening around them. I think they should have shown them react in a lot more fearful manner than they did. Their acting made it look very fake and normal.

The vulgarity in it annoyed me to no end. Needless bit of garbage that was!

Rewatched THE trilogy:

23742_1206395210.jpg

The first one gets a perfect 10, the 2nd one gets a 9 and third gets an 8. I feel the 2nd is a bit overrated and third is underrated despite Sofia Coppola's admittedly bad performance. On the other hand, the scenes with Fredo in 2 are just gutwrenching stuff. 1st part is of course untouchable. A proper classic.

Overall, it's a great crime saga and arguably the greatest trilogy ever. Coppola in peak form.

Agree with your assesment of part I and II, whole heartedly disagree with part III being just a notch below them. The whole Michael Corleone seeking redemption and trying to get back with his wife part is badly botched up. Part III should never have been made, it ruined the whole story.

Edge of Tomorrow

Wasn't expecting much but it actually was a pretty good movie. Similar in concept to Jake Gyllenhaal's Source Code but on a much larger and big budget scale. Tom Cruise remains the last "movie star" of our times. The shine has faded and the draw is not as big anymore but he still commands attention like no other movie star. Emily Blunt was surprisingly good in this role, never would have expected that. Her presence gives the movie a much needed tenderness and humanity, otherwise this movie would have gone down the Pacific Rim way.

Been very busy unfortunately watched Eyes wide shut 's first 50 mins last week will complete ASAP

Coppola intended I and II as a single film and III as an epilogue. It works fine as that. I agree Michael was way too warm after being the picture of coldness and stoicity. It has some great moments like the opera sequence and Eli Wallach (RIP)'s performance as the bumbling, senile Altobello who may not quite be what he seems. Vincenzo was not as well developed as Michael in Part I and so the ring-passing scene wasn't nearly as impactful. Plus, Tom Hagen was greatly missed.

However, the last 45 minutes are superb and the ending is very poignant. It's inferior to I and II but it's a good film in it's own right.

None of the reasons you listed makes it an 8. A 5 at best.

III had no legs to stand on its own. You have to know the story and had to have watched both I and II to understand III. In any good triology, each movie though connected can be viewed and appreciated separately on its own.

Michael's story was compete at the end of II. He's won but is alone and miserable at the top. He would die a lonely and sad man. Poetic justice. There was no need to redeem him and that too in such a botched up way. Guy who couldn't speak a full sentence unless he is berating someone in II is delivering romantic monologues in III, wth. Is that what age does to you, on the contrary, you go further in your shell. They butchered his character. This movie only got made because Coppola was in a financial mess.

Primer.

Love time travel movies, and saw that this one was highly rated. But the movie won't make sense. There are websites which explain the movie with the help of diagrams. Too many overlapping timelines, and asks a lot of intelligence from the viewers. Had to watch Looper (repeat) after that just to get something easy to understand.

^^^

Primer is a sci-fi cult classic. You should watch "Upstream color" if you want to get even more confused. Same director. Great movie though with a lot of analogies and subtexts.

Its about a man falling in love with an Operating system. Topic may not sound too promising, but the way this story progresses is extremely engaging.

No , I think it sounds really fresh idea :)

will try and see this one .

thanks for sharing

The Departed
9/10

An extremely fast-moving, wildly entertaining crime thriller by the legend Scorsese. Leo and Matt Damon give fabulous performances. Jack is Jack and Marky Mark shows he has some serious acting chops. Had seen it before but watching it again improved my opinion of it.

It does deserve 9 , very well made movie .

Where the truth lies

K. O'Connor, a young journalist known for her celebrity profiles, is consumed with discovering the truth behind a long-buried incident that affected the lives and careers of showbiz team Vince Collins and Lanny Morris

6.5 / 10

Trance.. Meh. Except for Rosario Dawson. Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Raid 1: 8/10 - great action movie! Thrilling and fast paced with amazing action sequences.

Raid 2: 8/10 - just as good as the first. Not quite as thrilling but the story is a bit better. No one in the indonesian gangs seems to own a gun though? lol

American's can't be bothered with sub titles. 'Murica is not too big on literacy.

Humshakals 5/10
Some of the scenes were pretty crass while some portion was ok nothing special

Watched a film called 42, last week.

It's about the first black professional baseball player in USA.

Quite interesting and of course based on true events.

6/10

5/10

A slasher film from the 80s with a maniac killer stalking a college. Oddly enough, the director focuses on character development rather than gore and violence but makes the error of not showing any horror for nearly 45 mins which makes it tough to watch. The last 15 minutes are good with our final girl showing some resolve. The killer has absolutely no back story and there is no mystery either much like Michael Myers. No patch on Halloween but is an okay effort.

Watched "American Psycho" once again after a long time. There hasn't been a better picture made which depicts the 80's yuppie culture with such precision and clarity. A young Christian Bale plays the role of a 27 hear old rich and narcissistic Wall Street executive who's struggling to keep his mask of sanity. His existence mired by greed, hate, disgust and envy for everything around him. This movie is so morbid and cryptic with such dark humor and sarcasm it can easily be part of Kubrick's catalog. One of the best movies made about American greed and the superficial almost sterile nature of a corporate lifestyle. A hidden treasure that keeps on giving with every watch. Definitely in my ten best movies of all times list.

"Heaven is for real" About a kid narrating his near death experience, based on a true story - 4/10

"Tapped out" - 5.5/10

"The Grand Budapest Hotel" - It was weird, not sure if I liked it or not. But it will stick to my memory- 7/10

Watched Apollo 18 - easily the worst 'found footage/horror/aliens' film I've ever seen.

Also watched Haunt. 6/10 for effort. Was OK, but too much dialogue and cheap "seeing the past" hallucinations to explain what was happening.

Haha, nice.

I've got to give this another watch. Was obsessed with this for a long time. Still am.

This film arguably does a better job depicting the yuppy culture than even Wolf of Wall Street.

Laal dupatta malmal ka (The Red Muslin Scarf). 8/10

Romantic movie with an assortment of many legendary singers ( Pankaj Udhas, Udit Narayan, Md Aziz, Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadekar). A Gulshan Kumar production. Watch it if you love bollywood romantic musicals.

Ek Villain (2/10)

Story of a serial killer who kills other women whenever his wife scolds him. His victims are shown as annoying women who bring their own downfall. Didn't like the anti woman theme. There is no suspense, and the villain does not evoke any fear. Songs are forgettable. The actress is terminally ill and wants to finish a bucket list before her death, but she is so irritating that you quite enjoy her murder. And the cop is some rathod. Casteist bollywood cannot get over rajput names for cops. Overall a bad movie meant for low IQ people.

You are still to explain the vomit comment.

Old Boy (2013)

Spike Lee's remake of the South Korean cult classic of the same name. Was skeptical of it being either a scene by scene copy or a totally different movie with an "American flavor". Turned out to be quite satisfying on its own though I still think the original is miles ahead of the remake in terms of originality, choreography, pacing and character building. Josh Brolin does a decent job of playing to protagonist, the ending almost seemed to be more fitting and the fight sequences were quite amazing and believable. All and all, a good time pass movie for fans of the original.

I have no idea what I will write in this thread if I happen to like the film:))).

CricketCartoons' problem (Actually a million folks' problem) is they think there is a correlation between the taste in movies and the IQ of a person. Folks liking rap are idiots, folks liking Michael Bay's movies are morons, folks liking Stanley Kubrick's 2001:A Space Odyssey are the smartest, brightest folks ever (never mind that junkies like that flick too for obvious reasons).

I watched the film because I was free and there was a break in between Round of 16 and quarterfinals of the World Cup. It was a good movie, not very spectacular. A lot of my friends liked it and suggested it. The villain could not have been more inhumane, but Ritesh Deshmukh is not the actor to be given that role. The songs were very good, though.

I might watch Humshakals tonight and then I will watch Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya in a few days' time.

The role given to the villain was very inhumane and he did what he had been asked to do. I just don't think his face is suited to negative roles. Ritesh is a bit emotional person in real, so that's my opinion. I have heard that Humshakals is a very funny movie and I like to watch these types of films.

I thought this movie waz terrible tbh. Not a patch on the original.

Has anyone watched Begotten? I watched bits of it on youtube- very weird & gory. Here is a description:

The opening scene symbolises "God Killing Himself" ( with the "Mother Of Earth" rising from his remains and then the 2nd scene represents "Son Of Earth" (Son of the mother of earth) being killed by nature.

I have heard its one of the creepiest strangest short films ever made.

He maybe not right about rap and likely basing his assumptions on the stereotypical view of this genre which I don't blame him for as it takes a lot of time to dig in and find the real gems and not everyone is going to have the patience to do that but when done right, rap demands the ultimate lyrical skills and can be the truest and mot purest form of expression in music. But there is no denying that ones tastes in arts is a representation of ones mental make up and IQ. A true movie buff or someone who is not just a causal movie watcher cannot like Michael Bay's movies as they are an assault on ones intelligence unless you intentionally want to dumb yourself down. As for 2001, stoners liking it doesn't deny its greatness, how many of them really get it is the question.

Almost Human
5.5/10
Some seriously impressive gore sequences and suspense marred by horrible acting and writing. Clocks in at a lean 79 minutes so doesn't drag either. The director clearly loves the genre and I'm hoping he improves. Obvious influences from the great John Carpenter and movies like Terminator, The Thing, Invasion of the body snatchers, Alien, etc.

Just finished watching Humshakals. Watch at your own risk, if you are an immense fan of comedy films and only if you have nothing else to do. Extremely funny, with lots of twists. The songs and actresses were really good, apart from Bipasha Basu.

'Ek Villain' (2013)

Everything was so good about the film except for the reason given behind the serial killer being so, which of course is the heart and soul of the film. That bit made no sense. I mean, I too would want my wife to say "I love you" to me, but I will not vent my anger on others if she doesn´t.

Possibly because of the contact lenses, Riteish Deshmukh was made to look a lot like Govinda, particularly the latter´s appearance in his film 'Shikar' (2000). The hero in the film acted very well by the way. But why did he release the killer and let him go after each beating? If you want to torture someone, you don´t let him go after beating him, rather instead you kidnap that person.

Why do these amazingly nice and lovie-dovie girls always get murdered so brutally in films? Reminds me of 'Ghajini' (2008).....

The best thing was that flute that they played in the background.

I still think the remake they made was pretty decent. Perhaps it was my age when I watched it, but it had some pretty frightening sequences.
