'Ab Tak Chhappan 2' (2015)

No story, no script. It's just too simple. In short, an awful sequel to a wonderful film that it was back then in 2004.

Name your 10/10 movies besides Goodfellas.

Will divide according to genres as 10 for horror and 10 for drama means entirely different (most of the time).

Drama: The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction

Comedy: Back to the Future, Moonrise Kingdom, Toy Story, Ed Wood

Thriller: The Matrix, Inception, The Sixth Sense

Horror: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Evil Dead II

10 is really special. There have been numerous movies who have seemed special but my liking for them faded away later on for some reason and I have downgraded them. These have stayed.

As I have grown, I have become harsher in reviewing and the amount of ones and twos have risen. :shehzad

^^^ unimpressed with the list :D..I was hoping to see some unpopular ones considering it was your list. :D

On topic..

Saw Kingsman. Loved it. Sam L Jackson is the greatest.

8/10

My weird taste extends to genre pics - horror, sci fi and thrillers. For crime, dramas and action, the taste is almost as same as the others. I just watch more horror compared to others.

I have been left disappointed usually when I watch any movie recommended by leatherface58. Those movies were good, just that I had higher expectation because it was rated highly by him. But the recommendations by shaykh have been great so far. Always make a point to watch the movies he mentions.

What was the last film you watched? ('PK' 2014)

Finally saw PK yesterday and now I understand why Indian's are burning theaters over it. It does raise some good questions about religion and how we follow it blindly without learning more about them and how its used as a way to make money. Still an OK movie I would give it 6/10, would have been a 7 if not for the horrible lip job.

One noticeable trend is, the film-makers refrain from directly attacking religions and then at the end of it all go on about how badly the message of religions has been misunderstood. I understand them for that of course, even if in case they genuinely don´t believe it to be so.

I thought it was a fantastic film.

Ed Wood is criminally under-rated. But a 10?

I suppose the theme of a person trying to achieve something with limitless passion but with total lack of talent for it really resonated with me. It was touching, funny and ultimately made me feel good. It took guts for Burton to not mock someone who had been mocked his whole life. Could have made it a parody but instead made it sweet.

It was also Burton-Depp's finest film (followed by Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd). Martin Landau as Lugosi was amazing.

6/10

Father dons a mysterious clown suit on his kid's birthday party which then refuses to come off and then all hell breaks loose. Does better with it's premise than I expected. Not a parody, or a satire. Although there are hilarious moments mostly to Peter Stormare who plays a (*gasp*) good guy! Unfortunately, it trades in the tragic monster aspect of The Fly for a more cookie-cutter slasher film. Again proves Eli Roth is better off as a producer than an actor or a director. Master of Horror LOL!!!

I thought it was a fantastic film.

They did refrain from it but at the same time they also made fun of a lot practices that people indulge in blindly.

It was a smart move but the ending kind of ruined it for me. That's where it turned into a typical bollywood movie and of course which movie is complete without a love triangle doesn't matter if it involves an alien or not.

Ils, atmoapheric French house invasion flick. Genuinely scary.

Waiting for Chappie. Looks great.

Roy

I can't rate it as I felt asleep watching after 30 minutes, this is Bollywood's version of Gravity.

'American Sniper' (2014)

I'm usually not a fan of films about wars for the extreme patriotism on show and the glorification of soldiers, neither films that are made about someone`s career or life in general, but this was really a good film. It never gets boring.

However, what a sad end it was to Chris Kyle`s life, having survived it all on the battlefield. It amazes me to see the number of cases I hear from America about suicides or about cases where people kill someone for absolutely no reason or motive. Quite disturbing, but just to add, this part is not in the film. Just a text flashes on the screen at the end.

I will give the film 7.5 out of 10. Again, quite good.

He was a racist brute. He deserved whatever he had coming. Eastwood just glorifies a racist trigger happy maniac as the greatest war hero of all time.

Gone Girl

A case study in bitter and unsatisfying marriages coupled with a sarcastic commentary on today's shallow reality TV and social media obsessed voyeuristic culture. Reminded me of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner's deliciously spiteful comedy directed by Danny DeVito called "The War of the Roses". Hate between married couples is a such a complex sentiment that any deftly written and directed piece about it stands out among the hordes of movies reinventing the perfect love story over and over again.

The drop dead gorgeous Rosamund Pike stole the show for me playing the delicate shrew with complete ease and authority. Fincher never cease to amazes me with each movie. I feel he has developed an attraction to strong female lead movies, The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and now this. The movie does have at times that Lifetime channel mockumentary style which I believe was purely intentional.

Likes this quote at the end which I thought was the essence of the whole story:

Nick Dunne: Yes, I loved you and then all we did was resent each other, try to control each other. We caused each other pain.
Amy Dunne: That's marriage.

Where would I be if not for you! Thanks for your post, as otherwise in about a few hours my username was about to be changed to ChrisKyle183.

On a serious note, I wouldn´t expect anything better from a soldier anyway. They are programmed into hating their enemy, that is the people they are at war with, in the worst possible way and tend to see them as "Filthy pigs", or something.

Treating it just as a film about Chris Kyle in a fictitious way, a good one it was.

Qissa 6.5/10

A complete taboo and dark subject unfortunately this type of practice was alive in villages a decade or two ago. Good acting overall though the ending was a bit dull. must watch for Bollywood lovers DHONI183

'Selma' (2014)

I think it was quite a good film. It was nice to have got to know a bit about Martin Luther King. I will be honest here and admit that I otherwise know very little about the man. His name, skin colour and about having done something for the blacks - pretty much all that I knew about him. Hopefully I will be able to manage some time and read a bit about him.

7.5 out of 10 for the film.

Insomnia - crime, mystery, thriller

Alaska is such a beautiful state. Want to go there for holiday.

I watched this one a few days ago but didn't add to this thread because I failed to understand a lot of things from it. I took it to be a little too fictitious but it´s astonishing to read here from your post that it was indeed something practised!

A question for you,.....

..... when the family of Irrfan Khan´s "Daughter-in-law" find about their daughter´s "husband" being in fact a woman, what happens then? How is the situation cleared? Also, what does Irrfan do to the daughter after taking her outside?

....as per my understanding "neeli's parent didn't come to know about this, when they move away to old house of her mouther its "kanwar's uncle Keerth mama who comes to know about this reality, by taking her outside if you are refering to the scene in thier old house then he was trying to get her pregnant

Hmmm..... I was referring to just right minutes before the ending Irrfan takes his "son" to some sandy place.... I was wondering what happened there, in case you remember.

And, wasn´t there a scene where the "son" takes of her shirt and shouts loudly about him being a man.... That too was beyond my understanding of things.

No problems Chris.

The first rule of Fight Club is you tell everyone to watch it.

The second rule of Fight Club is you MAKE everyone watch it.

10/10

Algorithm - Reminded me Cory Doctrov's book "The Little Brother" with this evil NSA thing. Actors were horrible and movie tried a little too hard to act all geeky and stuff. 4/10

'Vishwaroopam' (2013)

To my own surprise I have watched a Tamil film. I have been looking for its dubbed version into Hindi since three months (as my friend RWAC would testify).

I heard about the film in relation to 'PK' (2014), which being that like 'PK' did with Hindus, this one hurt the sentiment of Muslims, making it a controversial film that had to bear a loss of 30 Crore Rupees or something due to the reactions to it.

The other reason to watch the film being Kamal Hassan. I have not watched too many of his Bollywood films either, but got to know that film 'Virasat' (1997) was in fact a remake of a South Indian film that he had written (and also acted in) and was greatly impressed by the story of the film. So I was quite eager to watch this one.

Now, coming to the review of the film, the action is brilliant, some of the killings etc. are in such a brutal and original manner that you get the feel of being there present on the spot.

As for it being controversial, that's beyond me really. The film nowhere puts Islam into question and neither portrays it to be that all Muslims are terrorists.

Overall a good film but the ending looked very sudden, forced upon and out of shape. So that was disappointing.

I will give it seven out of 10.

Wolf at the Door (2013) - Brazil

Fantastic slow burning thriller...don't really wanna give the plot away but a brilliant movie on the dangers of infidelity...and in terms of direction a very interesting narrative technique...really good movie...

Foxcatcher - Expected so much more from this movie but it had moments where it was incredibly dull and craved out for more training and wrestling scenes. 6/10.

'NH 10' (2015)

Wow wow, what a brilliant film! A thrilling film that keeps you on your toes throughout the whole length of the film. One of the very best to come from Bollywood in the recent years

I will give it nine out of 10!

I would have given it full marks had it not been for the way Anushka killed the second last guy. I mean, how on earth could he not find a place where she wouldn´t have been able to enter with the car?

Virat Kohli too seems to have been greatly impressed by it......

A thrilling film about a girl writing a thesis about violence in media who pairs up with a horror/pornography fan to investigate some supposed snuff films. Very suspenseful and exciting despite it's morbid subject matter. Lot of twists and turns in this with a revolving door of suspects.

Also a surprising ending. Do watch it!

'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' (2015)

Not a bad film. Certainly not a waste of time, as it had its funny as well as sweet moments, but this was surely not Ayushmann Khurrana`s best film.

I will give it 6.5 out of 10.

The first 30 minutes are some of the finest filmmaking I have seen in a suspense thriller. I was not on the edge of my seat. I had fallen off and was still watching it. If the rest of the movie were that good, then I might have had to rearrange my all time top 10 horror list. However, it falls apart a bit after the incredible first half hour. Regardless, a very entertaining, overlooked movie with an awesome performance by the lead actress.

Haven't seen it yet. When critics wax lyrical over a horror movie, it only disappoints me. The Babadook was an exception to this to an extent but The Conjuring was disappointing.

Loved it. A great thriller. This performance of George Clooney is one of his best

leatherface58 : Did you see "What we do in the shadows"?

Nope. But it's on my watch list. Heard it's very original and fresh. You expect that from Clement but a vampire movie FINALLY done right? Should be interesting.

Once again, who else but the Kiwis to show how a horror comedy is done right? Did you watch Housebound? One of the best films of last year. Hilarious, twisted and ultimately very cool.

I'd didn't but I will check it out.

WWDITS had me in stitches. Loved the french dandy character.

I saw another vampire movie recently. It's called ''Only lovers left alive''. It had some good ideas but overall pretty meh. I never understood the obsession with the angsty romantic vampire character you see in most vampire movies.

'Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend' (2015)

An amazing nonsense name of an otherwise not the worst film. It´s short and has a few funny scenes here and there.

Noroi: The Curse

8/10

A Japanese Horror film, and it's one of the scariest film I watched.

Nothing Bad Can Happen...

Pretty brutal slow burner...on abuse and sacrifice...its based on a true story and I really do hope that liberties have been taken with the truth cos there is some serious cruelty in this film...

The Vanishing...

The original Dutch version...cool suspense movie...but not nearly as good as its IMDB rating imo...

Kill the messenger

8.5/10 it's actual story of a journalist trying to uncover the secrets of CIA, and in trying to do so. He faces different challenges, putting his career and family at risk.

I loved the film. Jeremy Renner should do more films like this, where he is required to act.

Killing them Softly 1/10

My friend told me not to watch this film but I did because of the incredible assembled cast. My friend was so right about this.

The Hunt

Just wow!...what a fantastic film...best film i have seen all year by a distance...genuinely terrifying...moving and thought provoking look at the dangers of hysteria...

And as someone who is a teacher it had an even greater effect...I can't recommend this film enough...

Tevar

Caught in the middle of a lethal unrequited love, an athlete protects a young woman from an unwanted marriage.

Its an old potboiler , like many other bollywood movies.
Manoj bajpai was easily the best actor. Arjun Kapoor over acts in several scenes. Sonakshi was as usual, a show piece.

4 / 10

Exodus : God and Kings

Very nicely made movie. Everyone knows the story, so it lacks that surprise element, but nicely made. I loved how Moses's interaction with the God could be interpreted as anything, and right till the end, it stayed the same.

Dirty Politics 6/10

An ok political drama the cast is star studded with stalwarts like Naseer Anupam etc highlights the political mafia of subcontinent :sharif #ground.reality
