force awakens

8.5/10

not perfect but justifies the hype and imo probably the best star wars film. All the actors were great

biggest issue with the film is that it isnt original, mirrors new hope in a lot of ways, also im told that Kylo Ren being Han Solo's son is similar to a now ret conned star wars extended universe story line.

Also yes they kill Han Solo, it was awful (in a good way) and i admire them for having the guts to do it. My only greivence with it is that it wasnt in some heroic sacrifice, he was murdered by his son, and there has to be a pay off for this later in the series (Kylo rens inner turmoil)

watched the devil double:7/10 decent film, thought it would be a lot gruesome and more factual:

A chilling vision of the House of Saddam Hussein comes to life through the eyes of the man who was forced to become the double of Hussein's sadistic son.

Victoria

Best movie of the year. I'm not a big movie buff so, while watching it, I didn't know or notice that it was a single take movie and yet, at the end, I felt extremely engrossed and my heart was pounding, proof that the concept is more than a gimmick. The story is nice and unpredictable enough and the characters are realist and justifiable in their unwise decisions.

Better than the holy trilogy?

Will watch today, can't wait

The new Star Wars. No spoilers from me, but it's very good. Kylo Ren is a fantastic character.

Is the new one is better than Empire strike back?

The climax had a real twist !

+ awesome acting as always by DiCaprio.

Exactly. In his career he has played so many iconic roles, yet every new movie convinces you that he is a different person. Love him.
If you guys liked Shutter Island, here are a few more of the same kind where last 20% or so of the movie completely turns everything on its head. And you feel like you need to watch it again.

I assume you have already seen the likes of Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, and The Sixth Sense.

- Incendies
- The Ghost Writer
- The Prestige
- Moon
- Ex Machina

The ghost writer is very underrated.
Some brilliant swerves in that one. I also liked the laidback yet suspenseful tone. You don't need action to raise the pulse. Polanski is a master of thrillers - Chinatown, Frantic, Ninth Gate, Rosemary's Baby.

The true successor to Hitchcock. A shame about his personal life.

Saw Bajirao Mastani today . Good movie but not great like Jodha Akbar, for me PC was really good even when she was playing small role .
7/10 ,wanted to give 8 but direction was little dull and there was 1,2 unnecessary songs.

Not a film but a documentary.

Black Fish- About the treatment of Killer Whales/Orca's in Sea World. Interestingly enough, Sea World will be closing down soon as their sales have gone down drastically after the release of this documentary. I wonder why. 7/10, I'd recommend it if you want to learn more about these animals.

on par with empire better then the rest

excessive ewoks killed return of the jedi and personally the more i look back the less keen i become with a new hope. Its good but not great

Still 8.9 IMDb rating with 77000 plus votes augers well for the quality. Once the voting on IMDB crosses 50000 you get a fair idea about its quality.

I have not watched previous films after the holy trilogy. Will it be a problem?

No it shouldn't be. It's set 30 years after the return of the Jedi.

The only minor issues I had with the film is that it's too much of an homage to the original.
And I don't think they touch on the 'force' enough.

But it's brilliant and they are only minor quibbles

9.5/10

No, I reckon one can go into this blind and enjoy the story, only thing you will miss are some homages and a couple of digs at the prequels but nothing story related

I'll watch it shortly, but the IMDB ratings are lagged with a positive initial bias. Early reviewers are always the fans, and it takes a while before the more measured ratings start to trickle in.

Plus, I think IMDB's/Amazon's rating algorithm is a bit skewed to give a more positive initial bias as it drives a lot of media/merchandise sale/pre-sale.

Have never watched a Star Wars movie, is this new one worth it? Never seemed interested but the tickets have been getting sold out like crazy. Maybe they are just fanboys or maybe it's a good movie, idk, please help.

Guddo Ki Gun

Guddu Ki Gun is the tale of Govardhan aka Guddu (Kunal Kemmu), a Bihari settled in Kolkata. He is a door-to-door washing powder salesman, whose sales pitch is "Ek washing powder ke saath Guddu free". While sharing a room with his close friend Ladoo (Sumeet Vyas), Guddu leads an amorous lifestyle in Kolkata. His travails begins when he ditches one of his girlfriends, Bholi (Aparna Sharma). Furious for forsaking his granddaughter, Bholi's grandfather casts a black magic spell on him. The only way Guddu can get rid of the curse is to find true love and by staying faithful to her.

The idea of the movie was good. Some very good and hilarious moments stitched together. The middle part of a bit weird , but finishes of okay.

The movie a low budget one so do not expect too much , good to view once.

6 / 10

Im far from Star Wars biggest fan and went into the new one with little knowledge if im honest (Hans/Luke/Chewie = good, Mask/Black Clothes wearing guys = bad) but I quite enjoyed this tbh. Action is well done and the story is decent, big surprise near the end actually haha wont spoil it though.

I'd give it a solid 7.5/8 out of 10.

Its like if Marvel films werent complete and utter garbage.

Nice to see Ireland appearing at the end as well, ought to visit Skellig Michael myself one day

There were no surprises, the movie was as predictable as they come. If you didn't see the end coming, then you're an amateur movie watcher.

The movie is disappointing, sure it's not a major let down like Episodes 1-3, but it's still pretty darn disappointing.

The two main characters in this movie are terrible in their roles. Harrison Ford and Oscar Isaac are stellar as they always are and whilst Adam driver was good in his role, the role felt weak.

The most disappointing thing was the soundtrack, I was underwhelmed, the music they used in the final trailer hinted at a grand style new soundtrack using themes from the originals, instead it used pretty much the same music with nothing original.

Over I give this movie 5/10.

Star Wars. Good movie but does not justify the hype. Just a rehash of A New Hope of sorts

I felt Harrison Ford is good but Carrie Fisher clearly cannot act. The two leads are good. At times it tried to be over-funny & didn't work. The script was as basic as they come.

The way thet killed off Hans Solo was LAME- nobody seemed to care that he died?

Overall- 6/10

Star Wars - Overhyped typical JJ Abrams lameness. Had the cheap superficial and cheesy feel of his Star Trek reboots.

Revenant isn't out yet but I watched a screened online. Now that was a terrific movie. Great story, wonderfully directed and Leo and Tom Hardy just killed it. It's a must see.

Save your money from Star Wars and see The Revenant instead when it comes out in a few days.

Fly away home 8/10 for good performances(including Geese) and amazing cinematography not only for a 1996 movie but even today.

The Revenant.

Its brutal and difficult to watch but a master piece. I see an Oscar in Leonardo and Tom Hardy's future.

Watched Creed. Good film very watchable. If you liked previous Rocky movies you'll like this too.

Got Revenant, Hateful Eight, Martian and Sicario to watch later in the week. Love the leadup to Oscar season :P

Yes it's worth it. It's very enjoyable imo. I only knew simple things about Star Wars, like some of the main characters (Princess,Luke,Vader,Hans etc), but still found it worth it.

Hans Solo was my favourite character in the movie overall, found the other characters not as entertaining tbh. Sucked that he died in such a lame way, but the way "Chewy" reacted and injured Kylo and blew up the place was pretty awesome. Found the parts with Finn using Luke's saber pretty unnecessary as it was Ray (I think that was her name) was the "chosen one".

The new Star Wars. No spoilers from me, but it's very good. Kylo Ren is a fantastic character.

Isn't that the Darth Vader wannabe? That guys has some anger issues lol, two times in the movie he had a major freakout lol.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

8/10. I liked the movie even though the only other SW movie I've see was III.

Individually Force Awakens is a brilliant movie but the people who watched the original movie a New Hope have that criticism of Force awakens literally copying and pasting the script from part 4 with a few tweaks and new characters. And it was incredibly similar, watch a New Hope to see what I mean and the villains in that movie are so much better and are multi-layered with some character development. I still enjoyed Force Awakens because of the action in space, nostalgia of seeing the old characters and some pretty entertaining performances from the new additions but overall the narrative was exactly the same as the first SW movie ever made.

I'd give it a 6.5 or 7/10 at best

OK, watched the new Star Wars today. For about 90% of its length, it is merely episode IV's first half and episode VI's second half pieced together with new faces. Same family issues, same cheesy soundtrack, same androids/woolly companions, same dogfights - but, obviously, better visuals.

Plus essentially a reunion of the old characters - most of which was unnecessary. I think Disney hedged their bets big time with this one.

Daisy Ridley was good.

6/10

I found the 2009 Star Trek reboot much better. Chris Pine is the next DiCaprio.

But the plot was to find the Droid and use the information to find Luke.. Surely that wasn't the plot in the first movie?

I generally find the whole Star Wars saga overrated. I guess you have to be a purist to really like the latest one.

Sicario is awesomely dark and brooding. Benicio del toro is an underrated master.

It sought of was, all of this occurred in the first movie to:

A droid has important information to pass on to the good guys

Hunting for the droid on a desert planet

Cantina scene

Girl being captured, and good guys going to save her

Death star 2.0

Death star 2.0 destroys planets

Death star 2.0 has shield that need to be destroyed from the ground

Death star 2.0 has one vulnerability that X-wings need to destroy

Fight between a sith lord and a force noob

Force noob goes to some remote system to find a Jedi master in hiding to receive training

Also, the whole angle between Han Solo's son being an evil guy was similar to Luke's old man being an evil guy.

I still enjoyed the movie and it was great but New Hope was fresh in my mind since I had watched it a few weeks earlier :))

Oh ok. I guess it is pretty similar. Maybe I liked it more than the Star Wars veteran fans as it was all new to me.

Not sure when you look at the $$$$$ which has been generated and the records which have been broken there is an appeal to the casual viewer to, people will go to the cinema out of pure curiosity to that's just star wars for you. And as we have seen in this thread and the force awakens one where many who haven't watched the original series at all have found force awakens very enjoyable.

I personally don't feel it's overrated, when it first came out no one had ever seen anything quiet like that and beyond the engrossing action in space the characters and SW Universe ensured its popularity. The prequels weren't all that I guess. Liked the old series and was disappointed that the old script from New Hope was recycled but the SW Universe, a few new additions and mainly the movie being a space opera action/adventure made it enjoyable for me. Very few movies out there which use space itself as a battleground and I love dog fights/Fighter aircrafts

Yeah definitely, one thing about Force Awakens is that even though New Hope is better imo if you haven't seen that movie you'd enjoy the new movie more but in general the veteran fans have reacted positively to the new release and the critical acclaim has been universal

Still surprised that Star Wars got a decent movie after being snatched up by Disney. :))

So there is a new Star Wars movie planned for every yr until 2020...includes spin-offs in 2016 & 2018

They got the right people involved I guess, that abraham guy who directed the movie rebooted Star Trek to and apparently that was a huge success

Sicario. Did not understand what the hype is about. Old story about a cop wanting to follow the rules, and those who break the rules to do the right thing. Boring and waste of time.

Ubharta Jawalamukhi.

Definitely a multiple time watch. Loved Shabnam and Shakeela's acting.

Force awakens 8/10

Like many others have said above, extremely similar to news hope, only good part was Han Solo being killed by his own son Kylo den.

I very much liked Sicario for the first 80% of it. The last 20% was a little over the top. The ending was not very realistic. (Very easy to prove you signed something under duress.)

it should win the award for film editing. Also, both Del Toro and Brolin were amazing.

I think 'Traffic' was more realistic, and 'No Country for Men' darker.

The Revenant. I think DiCaprio will finally get his Oscar and probably Inartiu will bag another one.

The Gift

Though not original..but surprisingly directing debut from Joel Egerton.

Creed was fantastic. That first fight they showed of his with an almost 8-10 minute continuous shot with no cuts - that is a master at work right there. Ridiculously good shot.

Watched Bajirao Mastani.

Decent film. Battle scenes were a bit ridiculous but that was to be expected. I thought the 2 actresses Deepika and Priyanka were superb but the actor Ranbir? wasn't up to the role.

5/10

It hasn't released in the UK yet, have you seen Southpaw? hopefully it was better then that as well and does creed do the Rocky franchise justice?

The Hateful 8 is absolutely amazing. Do not watch this if you need constant action because this film is quite slow (gets insane at the end as you'd expect it is Tarantino after all) but my god its epic.

Samuel L Jackson is BRILLIANT. I swear every line of his in the past hour is just gold, so damn quotable. Just a great film overall. Still doesnt quite top Sicario for my film of the year though.

8.5/10

How did you watch it? it's not released in the UK or Ireland yet and maybe there are a few online.....out there but the quality must be really bad.

I been looking forward to that movie more then any other for a long time, am not surprised you gave it a positive review

Brother has gotten a tonne of films downloaded lately, quality was actually fine, not HD but still very much watchable. I wouldnt watch it otherwise, no point watching a crappy version of a great film.

Cannot wait to see the Revenant in cinema in a couple weeks though.

Will watch a tonne of films these days as it is Christmas, hopefully see Inside Out tomorrow and maybe more.

You're going to love it! pretty decent animated movie and very clever; I watched it in the cinema with a mate, we were like two big baby's walking into a screen full of family's with little children :))

Oh right I might get a look online and download to check it out, the UK release is going to be a while and I was hoping for it to release around Christmas so I could watch it in the Cinema but all the good releases are out early next year including Revenant

It's awards season, critics get sent dvd quality prints and most end up on the internet. Even Revenants is online.

It's the usual superficial plot that he tries to make seem deeper with lots of posing and monologues. Add in lots of cool music and hyperviolence to reel in the viewers who won't feel too bad about it as the violence is against the bad guys, the confederates and the racists (so the perfect revenge fantasy for wannabe-blacks like Tarantino).

Agree with you on sicario though. Benicio Del Toro was legit scary.
