2002,2004,2006 and 2010- where did all these talents went from Pakistan??

For me the result isn't as important as discovering 2-3 players ready to play for PK players in the next couple of years. I really liked look of Haider, he may not be 19 but he looks to have the power to play and be successful. We will see if he has the temperment to go further than many others that have fallen by the wayside. Hurraira has already been talked and has many good qualities but won't be ready for another 4 years. Haris and Qasim looked very average, I was shocked at how bad Haris was, maybe it was just nerves.
The bowlers were decent, Amir looks to have something, he bowls a hard ball and although he looked nervous, he will play for PK in the next 3 years. I didn't get to see the left arm spinner except for the quick highlights and he looked to have a nice action.

2006 batch of India which lost to Pakistan has produced Rohit sharma, Pujara, Jadeja, Chawla. For Pakistan Sarfraz, Imad wasim, Nasir Jamshed. Those are the ones who have played some matches.

2002,2004,2006 and 2010- where did all these talents went from Pakistan??

Some in spot fixing (khalid latif, nasir jamshed) some developed attitude issues (ahmed shehzad, umar akmal), some lost their magic due to mismanagement by the domestic system (jamshed ahmed, anwar ali), some lost their magic because of the national team system (sarfaraz) and some are putting in the miles in domestic even today (Fawad Alam).

On the bright side, at least, the 2010-2020 u19 teams have given us a lot more to work with: babar, imam, shaheen, naseem, sami aslam, and now this current batch of batsmen including Rohail, Haider, Haris, Hurraira. Babar, Shaheen and Naseem have already cemented their place as potential superstars. Hopefully the rest can also do so

Pak Batting is quiet ahead of india with so many players who can handle pressure well, pace bowling is decent nothing outstanding and spin bowling is average, it's India bowling vs pak batting this time.

yea I believe pakistan will win if they bat first and vice versa. pakistan have the better batsmen by far.
india have better bowlers. tahir Hussain and abbas afridi are no joke though. The difference isn't much. Batting differences is stark though so in my opinion 60 40 in favour of pakistan.

I think they should play Arish Ali Khan in place of Fahad Munir (He can't bat and bowling is bang average) He is a massive turner of the bowl and is quiet accurate as well , No idea why he is not getting a chance , But if Shehzad can play in place Huraira (Babar Azam 2.0) then its always possible that Arish can't break in as well.

It has been issue in recent times. The match doesn't matter, we need to encourage our players to enjoy the experience and express themselves.

Ofcourse professional sportsmen around the world get overwhelmed by the net worth and paychecks of others and thus they cant perform upto their level. Another example is Roger Federer who bullied the other players based upon his net worth and remained no 1 for years because of that. :wahab2

India are favourites but Pakistan isn’t far behind in terms of quality players, I genuinely believe that.

Pakistan U19 have some serious talents.

LoL looks like the cricket fans from both sides are nervous. Claiming the other side as favourites.. anyway I have seen this before in this forum.. enjoy the game and Be bold in saying what you really think!
I think it’s 55 india - 45 Pakistan.. My observation is Pakistan batting has not got much hit in middle with low score chases and an abandoned game. And bowling probably evens out.

Nothing generates as much hype as India-Pakistan matches lol and this is u-19, even hotstar fb ads are filled with this nowadays.

You understand there is a difference between 35 year old player and 16 year olds and the later are much more impressionable about such things?

Pak will win it, inshallah. Even if we do none in our side will represent the national side.

How good is the Indian team this time? Because last time around they were not just the best team in the tournament but clearly also a million miles away from Pakistan.

Pakistan ready to take on India in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup semi-final

• “I was playing well against Afghanistan before I got run out. But I feel confident that I will deliver in the semi-final,” says vice-captain Haider Ali

Potchefstroom, 3 February 2020:

Arch-rivals Pakistan and India will lock horns in the first semi-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup at the JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom on Tuesday. The high-octane clash is set to capture the attention of millions of cricket fans in the sub-continent and the stakes, as always, are high.

The winners will clinch a spot in the 9 February final of the most prestigious age-group cricket event. The two teams have tasted glory in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the past with the defending champions India victorious on four occasions while Pakistan are the only team to have won back-to-back titles (2004 and 2006).

Pakistan’s historic 2006 triumph was registered with one of the most astonishing results in the history of the tournament when the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side convincingly defended their paltry 109-run total by rolling over India for 71 runs at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.

The two teams have frequently clashed in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. Pakistan have won five out of the nine matches between the two sides, while India have won four contests.

Pakistan have so far shown great depth in both bowling and batting departments in the ongoing tournament. They shot out Scotland for 75 runs in their opening Group C match and restricted Bangladesh to 106 for nine in the rain affected match also played at the JB Marks Oval.

The bowlers also made light work of Afghanistan by bowling them out for 189 in the quarter-final clash.
The batting line-up’s depth was visible in game against Zimbabwe when Pakistan recovered from 73 for three to post a 294-run total.

The batsmen also held their own against the fancied Afghan spinners to overhaul the 190-run target for the loss of four wickets with 53 balls to spare.

Pace bowling all-rounder Abbas Afridi - with nine wickets in four games - is Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker, to date, and his fellow pacers Tahir Hussain and Amir Khan have taken seven wickets each.

The batting is led by Mohammad Haris who was the man-of-the-match against Zimbabwe with a sparkling 48-ball 81. Haris saw off the chase against Afghanistan with an unbeaten 29 off 43 balls, his tournament tally is 110 runs (two innings) with only a single dismissal earning him a 110-run average.

Qasim Akram, who scored 54 against Zimbabwe, contributed a useful 25 not out against Afghanistan in an unbroken 63-run fourth wicket stand with Haris that sealed Pakistan’s win.

Pakistan will look to opener and vice-captain Haider Ali to provide a flying start to the team like he did against Afghanistan (28 off 34 balls, five fours) before his unfortunate run out.

Haider has not yet lived up to the potential he has shown at the domestic level with a century in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019-20 final and the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup last year with scores of four and 19 against Scotland and Zimbabwe respectively besides his quickfire knock against Afghanistan.

The right-handed stroke player who has already caught the attention of cricket pundits during his stroke filled 28 on Friday. He, however, feels that the team is ready for the big clash while he knows that he needs to turn-up in the big semi-final clash.

Haider Ali said: “I am happy with my batting form. I was playing well against Afghanistan before I got run out. But I feel confident that I will deliver against India. This is just another game for us and I don’t feel any additional pressure, I feel, I can do well in the match.

“My confidence is high after the Afghanistan innings. I know my importance to the team and I will aim to carry on the batting form and provide the team a good start against India. Former players and experts have admired my batting which makes me happy and motivates me to do well in the upcoming games.

“I scored 45 against India in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup match recently, I feel confident heading into the game and will give my 100 per cent. I want to thank the fans who have supported us especially after the quarter-final win. I also want to thank the cricketers who have tweeted for us and encouraged us ahead of the semi-final.

“I request the fans to pray for us, we will give our 100 per cent and aim to win the World Cup.”

If Pakistan players do not get nervous and play to there potential they can beat India.

Key is to make sure to do basics right , bowl in right lengths , hold the catches.

When batting , take your time , try and build partnerships , take it in 5 overs block . Like 20 runs off 5 overs , then 22 , then 22 etc.

Our players are over cautious and timid. Most probably it will be 8-10 /1~3 wickets in 5 overs. Even if they score 12-15 in 7 overs without loosing a wicket would be great

Last 4 matches 33, 4, 19, 28. 84 runs in 4 matches with ave. of 21. How can be happy with this type of form. Pathetic!!! Our players don't have hunger for runs.

He scored 70(38) not out against Nigeria (he retired to give other players a chance), 33(38) against Sri Lanka after playing a rash shot rather than struggling against the ball (so could easily have converted his start, but that was a very good in-form knock), bad scores of 4 against scotland and 19 against Zimbabwe, and then played a beautiful but short knock against Afghanistan before he was run out on 28 but was otherwise playing superbly.

He’s got the talent and arguably he’s in form too. Just hasn’t showed that form off yet. He needs to be more careful about stupid ways of getting out (rash shots, run outs) and I’m sure he’s keeping the same in mind. But he has every right to be happy with the way he’s pulling these strokes off and smashing bowlers to all parts of the ground. I would also rather he have confidence in his form going into a big match rather than feel shaky and unconfident.

Just watched some highlights of the two teams in preparation for this game.

Two openers seem most interesting for me.

From India, Jaiswal

And from Pak, Hurraira. Not in his stance, but when he plays his shots, there's a lot of Babar Azam in them.

How is the forecast for tomorrows game?

You understand there is a difference between 35 year old player and 16 year olds and the later are much more impressionable about such things?

I completely understand the age difference however at the same time I understand salary or net worth are the least likely of differences a sportsman thinks about when preparing for the game or on the field.

Nadal won grand slam as a teenager and everyone he would have played against obviously had more money than him at that time but, as I said no sportsman think about anything else when preparing for the match or on the field. There must be 100s of thoughts going around but its not likely going to be related to net worths or contracts of the opposition.

I guess he is referring to how he is feeling with the bat in hand and how is he timing the ball in the match and nets, it doesn’t necessarily mean he is scoring tons after tons as sometimes even when you are feeling really good sometimes the runs don't come. Even if you see from his scores he got the starts which shows he was fine against the new ball but couldn’t capitalize on them. Some of the shots he played against Afg, he definitely didnt look out of form.

Sometimes form means the way he is striking the ball in the nets or past few matches, form is not always scoring runs . He was playing good against Afganistan unfortunately got run out.

Hypothetically, if this match was rained out does the side with a higher group stage NRR go through? And do the quarter finals factor into the NRR?

If it gets rained out then factors such as NRR, group position, points in the group will be used and India is ahead in all of them. So India will qualify.

Thankfully, it’s not gonna get washed out but the Final might.

Are the Indian players gonna have huge checks attached to their forehead or what, so they can remind Pak players of their net worth etc?

I doubt anyone playing for their nat'l team, even on U19 level, will think too much in to such things, even if they are aware of all that to begin with

Awesome music but the clips are so cringe

While I am hopeful the Pakistan cricket might be turning the corner on mental frailties (although the senior still has serial bottlers like Hafeez, Malik Shafiq, Azhar) I think India will win this.
Pakistani cricketers freeze when they have to play India and its a rot that has set in at every level. So if Pakistan wins, it will be surprise and if they lose, it will be very much expected.

The only thing you do is slit wrists in every thread. Before SL test series you were claiming SL will thrash Misbahs team. And if we beat SL then you will stop your wrist slitting.

Now you're going after u19 kids who have won more world cup matches against IND than IND have won against us.

But no, you will still throw a tantrum.

Why? I would care even if it was kho-kho match against Pakistan.

Even I use to be get super excited for this kind of matches but since last 10 years the matches were generally one sided and never lived upto hype except few matches.
ind vs pak matches are just a hype nowadays

Overcautious?
Didn't we score 60 off the first 10 against AFG and we chased the target in 40 overs.
The same target which Aus chased down with only a few balls remaining and 6 wickets down.

You keep on getting humiliated again and again. First it was the emerging asia cup where Pakistan came back strongly and beat Sri Lanka. The same match where you went on a rant and then ended up humiliating yourself.

Also, you started supporting the team after the win so you don't get any backlash and then you did the same thing again against IND.

Why do you cower every time you get proven wrong?

2014.
2012 all three matches.
2011, it was a close match.

You mean in the last 5 years instead of 10

While victory would be sweet but It’s more important to just support these kids

Predicted playing 11? I’m wondering whether they will play Waseem in addition to Tahir, Aamir, and Abbas Afridi and go with 4 pacers instead of 3.

I also want to see Aarish since I’ve heard very good things but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to introduce him suddenly in a semifinal match. But I wouldn’t put it past them since they debuted Huraira in a quarter final.

My playing order would also be as follows:
H Ali + M Huraira
F Munir
R Nazir
Q Akram
M Haris
M Irfan Khan
Abbas Afridi
Aamir Ali
M Aamir Khan
T Hussain

Bowling attack opened by Tahir on one end, Aamir on the other overs 1-12. Abbas and Aamir to bowl middle overs with Qasim and Fahad chipping in 5 each (Qasim first from 12-25 then Fahad when some wickets have hopefully fallen between overs 25-40 since I can see him being smashed around by the top order — this is exactly what happened to Fahad by India in the U19 Asia Cup when he was brought on against Tilak Varma).

Abbas looks a better death bowler so I would have Aamir Khan complete his remaining 4 overs between 30-42 instead of Abbas then have Abbas and Tahir complete the innings. (Tahir has been extremely precise with lines and lengths and has been very economical even if he hasn't been rewarded with wickets. Aamir is sheer pace and while it worked before pace is not enough to work against a stronger batting attack looking to accelerate in the final overs).

Also, as Rohail I would 100% choose to bat if he wins the toss. I did some thinking on my previous post, and I noticed that India has very little experience chasing during this tournament and have mostly batted first. The only time they didn’t bat first was chasing 42 against Japan. For this reason, I think it would put them in uncertain waters to have to chase a 250 total on this ground. Also, their middle order is completely untested. They were knocked out cheaply against Australia as well if not for some lower order heroics.

Meanwhile Pakistan needs to bat without pressure on the board. Pakistan’s bowling will be good whether it is the first innings or the second, but our batting lineup needs some security going into this. The previous scores we’ve chased have all been small (109 against Nigeria, 215 against Sri Lanka, 75 against Scotland, and 189 against Afghanistan). The largest of these, 215 against SL, was done in 45 overs with 6 wickets down for the count. It remains to be seen how Pakistan would chase a 250 score potentially put up by the Indians (at least).

If we bat first, I am confident that with our batting depth we can put up a total that our bowlers can then defend. Anything north of 250 would seal the game, I think.

The first step to winning this is to put these mentally tough Indians under pressure and that’s not easy to do — so take them out of their comfort zone and test their ability to pace a chasing innings on a seaming track against some quality seamers and pacers.

Let Jaiswal make a couple of runs, but the second two wickets fall, a batting collapse for an untested middle order would not be surprising.

It is possible I am writing off the middle order too early though. I may be wrong. It just hasn’t impressed me so far and seems the only possible weakness to attack.

I am not saying whether you can play him well or not. But his wrong uns does turn. Looks like you are very confident. I only go by articles. Don't have first hand knowledge of many of these guys. Seen here and there.

I'm far more worried about your pacers.

A lot of hype has been created around this game which was not there as much in 2018

India seems to be a safer bet. Pakistani teams are just mental midgets when it comes to facing India.

Amir and Kohli were similar age...Amir more talented then Kohli...but Kohli had ipl contract worth crore in 2009...Amir deprived of such earnings did what he did...it can impact you to see players of similar talent than you making so much money at a young age... it’s human tendency to compare things. It’s just my observation.

Not in under-19. They have had their share of wins. This time the sides are evenly matched. So it will be an interesting match.

I hope the young Pakistani bastmen learn a thing or two watching the likes of Jaiswal from close quarters.

Imagine the difference it'd made to Shehzad if he were actually friends with Kohli and had the opprtunity to pick his batting brains?

People on here saying Pak batsmen are better this time round? I seriously doubt it. Indian batsmen will all take their game up a notch when confronted by the arch enemy.

There are actually 2-4 future prospects in this Pak U19 squad in comparison to 2018 where other than Omair Yousuf who didnt get a lot of games there wasn’t anybody.

Not the highest quality of reporting from cricinfo. Arish Ali Khan is primarily a spin bowler and not a batsman unless they are trying to say something else which I am missing.

Seems like the reporter had a one to one conversation with Arish. Somehow got the impression that he could bat from that, so maybe he’s a decent bat in addition to his spin and the reporter only picked up on the batting?

Didn't rohail nazir who is captain now, played in 2018 u19 semi final between India vs Pakistan. This will have pshycological effect on today's match. He will have memories of 69 all out.

I am talking about pressure games against arch rival India not any group match. If our players play normally without worry too much we can win over India.

Arish can bat a bit in lower order but has batted mostly at no9 or below even in U19 3 day tournament. Arish might have been practicing with bat in nets and reported thought he is a batsman may be as definitely calling him a batsman is wrong.
