Australia of 2018-19 series:-

Marcus Harris
Usman Khawaja
Shaun Marsh
Peter Handscomb
Travis Head
Mitchell Marsh
Tim Paine (c & wk)
Pat Cummins
Mitchell Starc
Nathan Lyon
Josh Hazlewood

Or this one:-

Simon Katich
Shane Watson
Ricky Ponting (capt)
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Marcus North
Brad Haddin (wk)
Mitchell Johnson
Xavier Doherty
Peter Siddle
Ben Hilfenhaus

The latter one were schooled by Cook's England team during 2009-10 series while the former one are getting schooled by the current Indian team. Remember Ponting was well past it.

I remember Australian bowling from that series, that was one of the weakest Aussie bowling unit for long time.
There batting was OK, but watson, Ponting, Clarke was out of form, where Katich was not fully fit.
2010 Aussie batting was strong on paper, but at the performance time they folded without giving much fight, specially in 4th and 5th test

Obviously the second one, absolutely no doubt about that. India did not stand a chance against this old aussie sqaud, they just cashed in at the right moment. We all know Pakistan stood a strong chance in beating this depleted aussie squad but we dont have the economic power to convice aussies for a series at this time.

The bowling of the first one is a great one. We need to remember how England were almost whitewashed in the home series last year.

Don't be fooled by the big names in the second team, since Watson, Ponting, etc were in bad form. Still the second team had better batsmen, but the bowling is better from the first team and they're the better team overall.

Second one had Clarke who himself could put up 200+ on good days. Current Australia dont have any serious batsman, and bowling has been found out to be overrated.

2010 Aus
Batting 5.5/10
Bowling 4.5/10

2018 Aus
Batting 3.5/10
Bowling 7.5/10

Clarke wasn't the same Clarke who was scoring dadddy tons in the 2011-14 period.

Most of Ponting’s guys would walk into the current Aussie side.

current line up has much better bowling attack.
Xavier Doherty lolol

batting wise that team was better even with declining ponting

The batsmen, yes. I can't see any of the bowlers from the listed 2010/11 side getting a game, though it's a coin toss between the older version of Johnson and 2018 Mitch Starc

My combined team would be:

Simon Katich
Usman Khawaja
Ricky Ponting (capt)
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Shane Watson
Brad Haddin (wk)
Pat Cummins
Mitchell Starc
Nathan Lyon
Josh Hazlewood

I'll take the 2010-11 team over the current lot. Reckon both Johnson and Siddle would get picked in the current team too. Cummins and Lyon are the only players in the 2018 version that are clearly better.

Looks about right. I would have Siddle in for Starc though.

Waiting for some self loathing people to come out and say that Xavier Doherty > Lyon and Siddle better than Hazlewood .

Pathetic thread.

Current bowling line up of Aus >>> 2010-11 , also Ponting and Hussey were close to retirement so even that side's batting was not so great but better than current lot.

What people forget is that the 2010-11 Aus batting was in poor form. On paper sure looks great but Ponting was at his lowest then (worse than Sachin of 2012 Eng home series), Clarke too was having a horror time (peak Clarke started only the following year), Katich was about to be discarded. I may sound crazy but some of the batsmen in current Australia are in better touch than 2010-11 Ponting or Clarke. Don't go by reputation, I will similarly concede that form-wise current Starc wouldn't make the cut in that team. However the remaining 3 present Aussie bowlers easily overpower their 2010-11 counterparts. Combined XI will have bowling attack reading Cummins, Harris, Josh and Lyon.

2010-11 team would still have the edge because they had the aura and culture/experience of winning. In a 5 match series played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, MCG, SCG I see 2010-11 team clinching it 3-2 in a **** fest quality contest. No draws because both batting units would outdo each other in comedy.

If all that matters is name and not age/form then 2003 pakistanWC team should be the the best ever...

Hussey was in Good touch in AUS conditions. He averaged 50 in the 2010 season and scored runs against England also. But you are right. The rest of the batting was poor. I would choose current Aus as the bowling is far superior. Khawaja is normally prolific in Aus conditions also. Just been poor this series- credit to India.

^I do not believe Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood is far superior to Siddle, Hilfenhous, Johnson, Harris. They are comparable to each other.

2010/2011 Australian bowling wasn’t good but that batting line up on form is very good. 2018/2019 Australia batting isn’t good but bowling is much stronger. I’ll go with 2010/2011 Australia just.
