1.) Pakistan is on top of the world as it is coming off series wins against ZIM, NZ, AUS, ENG and has finally found a settled squad with a confident captain. The pundits have high hopes for this young and experienced team.

Ex:

WC 87’, 96’, 99’, 03’, 07’.

2.) Pakistan is down in the dumps with series losses against ZIM, AUS, NZ, ENG and has a violent locker room environment. There are groupings and rumors of a captaincy change with cutting and chopping of the squad members days before the tournament starts.

Ex:

WC 92’, 11’, 15’.

Add more options and explain why you feel/chose that certain option.

A good year will be more beneficial. A close 3-2 defeat against England before the World Cup will keep our feet on the ground.

Too many wins or losses will either result in arrogance or pessimism.

The team need to keep bubbling nicely 😊

I want us to smash the door down, slay whoever comes in our way and reach the throne with the corpses of our opponents strewn behind us while onlookers hymn songs in our praise.

But what about the charm of the sudden ninja attack when no one in the crowd thinks that you can fight back and the opponent is all arrogant and flash and outta nowhere they they get a punch in the guts and fall to the floor like a log??

Scenario 1. We have struggled in bilaterals against the top teams. It would be nice to change that . Hopefully it could give is confidence .

Scenario 1

Most of the world cups were won by the strongest and dominating teams.

Scenario 1.

I know scenario 2 seems like something out of a movie, a team struggling goes on to defy all odds and win an ICC tournament but that realistically never happens. Tbf, it happened last year as Pakistan were not expected to go far, many people said that it was nearly on the same level as Leicester winning the league, but most likely, a team who is underdogs rarely goes on to win the tournaments. Hopefully Pakistan ODI team go into the WC in good form.

The cornered tiger Pakistan is the most fearful one for any opponent. Pakistanis don't play freely when are expected to do well. T20 WC 09, CT17 happen when they have no expectations from themselves.

An early phainty in the tournament is what Pakistan will need.

I'll take a guess we'll beat Zimbabwe and Australia but lose to New Zealand and England.

For Pakistan to win a world cup they have to be in utter turmoil and almost out of the tournament until a stroke of luck / genius propels them to the final and beyond.

Winning organically is for the other teams.

I just want a settled opening combination (Fakhar-Babar) and settled bowling attack (Amir-Hasan-Junaid-Shadab-Faheem) and we will make it to the semi finals at least.

If we are going to win the WC it is going to be because of Fakhar and whoever occupies spots 5-8 in the batting order.

Our bowling very rarely lets us down and a bowling attack of Amir-Hasan-Junaid when all are fully fit and firing on all cylinders is better than anything else the world has to offer.

Scenario 2.
The joy what you get after beating all the odds and achieving something is just unmatchable.

:imran

We need some good hitters at 6,7. Maybe Asif and Faheem can play that role. Fakhar needs to be in red hit form with Babar, Haris playing the anchor role.
Bowling looks good. I will love to have India in the semis or the final ; so breaking that WC jinx and winning will be ideal

Starc Cummins and Hazlewood....

Pakistani way is to remove the last ounce of hope from the equation, look the point of no return in the eye, slip and fall on your face and when you start questioning whether even duas are of any use, rise and steamroller the opposition past the finishing line (with the odd heart stopping moment along the way of course).

So scenario 2 is the only route to glory, tried and tested. Micky Arthur can aim for the 'C' word, but he will find out soon enough.

"Consistency"?

Come on, dude. To even make this a contest you should have said that we win the World Cup after the heavy losses and infighting.

Ala CT 2017 final.
That does have its own feeling yaar

We were missing Junaid and Amir+Hasan were half fit throughout. Secondly there is a difference between losing away and losing home.

Fast bowlers are rarely fully fit with the amount of cricket thats played. Thats just a cop out for a poor (yet expectedly so) performance.

You are one to talk your team just lost to Afghanistan 2-0 and looks like losing the third T20 as well.

Pakistan is the only country in the world where people take pride in being inconsistent. Inconsistency is a result of mediocrity - a feature of Pakistan cricket which is repacked and marketed as unpredictability and Cornered Tigers nonsense.

That would spoil the ending but I can see your point.

It's a choice between consistency (which hasn't fared well for Pakistan before tournaments) and controversy (which has fared well for Pakistan before tournaments).

Losing is losing though. NZ conditions suit our bowlers more than awful UAE pitches.

I'm not saying attack is rubbish but losing a series doesn't make your attack not the best in the world world neither does winning a series.

The best attack will perform in all conditions over a consistent period of time.

Never happening. We like to make critics go insane with rage. When they expect us to get thrashed, we end up smashing the opposition. When they term us as favourites, we fold meekly. Pakistan is the definition of a troll in the cricket world tbh.
