Who do Indians consider to be their greatest ever Test batsman?

Dont think you need 7 batsmen in your XI. Batting is already legendary. You should play with 5 bowlers(including Kapil Dev).

I agree with you. Bhaijaan made the above post obviously with batting approach. 4 bowlers can be enough in test cricket if they are quality but given this is India, you'd rather have an extra option.

Bhaijaan's All time Indian test bowling line-up:-

Kapil Dev
Anil Kumble
Javagal Srinath
Zaheer Khan
Bishen Singh Bedi

This may not be a devastating bowling line up but when you bring the balance of 5 unique world class bowlers in one team, it forms a formidable bowling unit nonetheless.

Greatest Indian test batsman is easy to pick in Tendulkar.
Followed by Gavaskar and Dravid.

My All Time Indian XI would be
Gavaskar , Sehwag , Dravid , Kohli , Laxman , Dhoni , Kapil , Ashwin , Kumble , Zaheer and Srinath.

You wouldn't include in the team whom you just said is the greatest Indian Test batsman?

gavaskar
sehwag
dravid
tendu
kohli
laxman/mohinder(laxman in asia and australia, mohinder everywhere else)
dhoni
kapil
kumble/zaheer(kumble in asia, zaheer outside asia)
javagal/shami
bishan singh bedi

tendulkar no one is close to him.
Then Gavaskar, Dravid, Sehwag..

Kohli might reach Tendulkar level once he finishes his career or maybe surpass him we will see once he retires so I won’t rate him right now.
