WWT20 | Pakistan Women v Sri Lanka Women | 7th place play-off | 3/04/14 | Sylhet

Match scheduled to begin at 2:30 PKT (09:30 GMT)

Both sides can end somewhat disappointing campaigns on a high if they win in the seventh-place playoff

Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women have had a somewhat disappointing ICC Women's World Twenty20 2014 campaign, but both sides have the opportunity to end on a high when they face each other in the seventh-place playoff match at Sylhet Stadium on Thursday (April 3).

Sri Lanka started brightly in the tournament, securing a 22-run win against India, but it hasn't had any victories subsequently. Sri Lanka's inexperienced batting stumbled as the side lost against the West Indies, England and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka faced New Zealand on Wednesday at Sylhet in the qualification play-off in Sylhet, and the batters put up a good performance with contributions from Yasoda Mendis (45) and Chamari Atapattu (46), but despite that, it lost by six wickets.

Pakistan hasn't fared much better, losing to South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Its solitary win has come against the inexperienced Ireland side.

Though Pakistan did well to restrict India to 106 in the qualification play-off, with medium-pacer Sania Khan grabbing three wickets, it lost wickets regularly and fell short by six runs.

Having conceded scores of 160+ in its first three defeats, Pakistan will look for a better show from the bowlers. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, needs to ensure it doesn't get bogged down while batting. For inspiration, it needs to look no further than the men's national team, which has qualified for the semifinal.

With only the top six at this World T20 automatically qualifying for the next edition of the tournament, both Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be required to compete in a separate qualifying tournament to earn a berth for the ICC Women's World Twenty20 2016.
