The Xbox Series X will be launched in November, Microsoft has confirmed.

The "most powerful ever" games console will feature twice the processing power of the current generation Xbox One X.

Microsoft said there will be "thousands of games to play", spanning four generations, when the product is released - but the flagship game Halo Infinite will be delayed until 2021.

More than 100 Xbox Series X games "optimised" for the new console will be released this year.

Xbox said: "Playing will look and feel better, no matter which games you choose to play on day one."

It comes as rival Sony plans to launch its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, at the end of 2020.

A key feature of the product will be its backwards compatibility technology, which allows games from older consoles to be played on new systems.

Other features will include hardware-accelerated Direct X ray tracing, frame rates of up to 120 frames per second, faster loading times and Quick Resume for multiple games.

In what may come as a disappointment to fans, the company said it needs more time to "finish the critical work necessary" to launch the next instalment in the popular Xbox-exclusive Halo series.

"Our vision at Xbox and 343 Industries has always been to deliver the most ambitious Halo game ever for our fans, while also balancing the team's wellbeing," Xbox said.

Other highly anticipated games coming to the console include a reboot of the Fable fantasy franchise, the open-world zombie sequel State of Decay 3 and another addition to the Forza racing series.

The PS5 vs Xbox series X rivalry will be interesting, especially since they are releasing at very similar dates. It is a big blow for Xbox that Halo is not able to release alongside the new console in my opinion, that would have boosted sales massively. PS5 have a lot of blockbuster games releasing alongside it, like Spiderman, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed, Madden etc.

PS will once again blow XBox out of the water in terms of first party games and sales.

Looks like it but there seem to be something xbox is going to have that is apparently allowing streaming from PC using xbox pass, this needs confirmation but this would push a lot of youtube gamers into Xbox as game streaming is huge... (also annoying personally).

Also Xbox backward compatibility will be much more than PS but because Japanese,Chinese console sales will be huge for Sony they will easily beat Xbox in worldwide.

I somehow want Xbox to succeed, I have played on all consoles but never owned one and I don't care for it either ,imo Xbox's success leads to more innovation than PS and the stigma around gaming is less with Xbox, even my parents loved the exp of Xbox.

Good to have competition.

Xbox will always be the more popular console in the U.S. They cannot compete with PlayStation in Asia and they obviously know that.

Not true. Xbox was more popular than PS3 at one point, and MS was competing with Sony, because of exclusive AAA titles.

Since then Xbox has been cheaper, but still loses out on sales because of Sony exclusives, which are doing incredibly well (HZD, LOU2, GoT).

Even when PS4 Pro was released, it did not support 4K movie discs, Xbox did, it was cheaper, but MS still failed to dent market share.

On top of this the new Xbox uses BluRay technology which is a Sony patent, but then Sony uses MS Azure cloud architecture for gaming servers. So both win.

I'm sure PS4 outsold Xbox one.

The problem with Xbox is their exclusives are available on PC. As a PC gamer myself, there is no benefit of me getting the next Xbox. I'll be buying the PS5 and upgrading my gaming rig later this year.

So Xbox potentially being released without their flagship game, do they even have any first-party AAA game coming out at release then?

Microsoft possibly looking at bungling their second console release in a row.

microsoft have given up trying to crack the EU and Japan code after trying for 2 decades. the 360 was a good console but i'm being told they'll come with a 60$ cloud based game pass - not sure about exact details - which could be a game changer for the industry.

I saw a survey few months back that came to the conclusion that Xbox is still the more popular console in the U.S., which is obviously understandable because Microsoft is American.

Back when I was there, almost everyone around me had an Xbox. I didn’t see many people preferring PlayStation.

Xbox 360 was very popular in Pakistan and outsold PS3 by a big margin because of piracy. You could buy a disk for Rs. 150/- while the same game would cost about Rs. 3,000/- on PS3.

Xbox One pretty much flopped though, just like the original Xbox that competed with PS2.

The PS5 will surely outsell Xbox this year. The hype around the release and reveal of the PS5 was far far more from what I saw, I didn't even know about the new Xbox until I came on to this forum.

This is going to almost the same story. PS5 will outsell Xbox Series X for sure. Even the exclusives right now of PS5 are better than Xbox next gen imo. And besides every Xbox game will be playable on PC so some people might even opt out to buy Xbox.

Even MS is American, it's still surprising why they would go for an inferior console.

Also, PC gamers who also game on consoles (like myself) would never go for Xbox because their exclusives are readily available to play on PC.

Yep, this is why I've already ruled out buying the next Xbox. I'll be upgrading my rig when AMD and Nvidia announce the next gen. Ryzen CPUs and GTX 3000 series GPUs (respectively). I will be getting a PS5 so I can play the exclusives.

I am supporting Sony Playstation. They have given me the best experience as a gamer.

Microsoft has officially confirmed the name and price of its smaller and cheaper next-generation Xbox console, following a series of leaks hinting that such a product was in the pipeline.

The Xbox Series S will be available for £249 ($299 in the US) and won't have a disc drive, instead depending on users purchasing and downloading or streaming games over the internet.

According to Windows Central, the console could also be available within a $25 a month plan (UK price is unavailable) known as Xbox All Access, which will include Xbox Live and Game Pass - a subscription service offering a library of games to download or stream.

A leaked video posted to Twitter compared the Series S with the main Series X console, which is expected to retail for $499 (presumably £449 in the UK), showing the difference in size.

The Series S is the smallest Xbox console to date, Microsoft has said.

The leaked video lists its technical specs as including support for 120 frames-per-second gameplay at 1440p resolution, 4K upscaling for games, 4K media playback, support for DirectX raytracing, and 512GB of storage.

Both new Xbox consoles are expected to be released on 10 November, according to Windows Central - although this has not yet been confirmed by Microsoft.

The company has only said that it plans to launch the new consoles at some point in November.

Microsoft has said it will reveal further details soon.

The Series S will have a weaker GPU performance than the flagship Series X, and probably a little weaker than the existing Xbox One X - although unlike the One X, it will be able to play next-generation titles, The Verge reports.

Microsoft has previously announced the Xbox Series X would be released in November and will feature twice the processing power of the current generation Xbox One X.

Microsoft said there will be "thousands of games to play", spanning four generations, when the new consoles are released - but marquee launch game Halo Infinite has been until 2021.

Rival Sony also plans to launch two models of its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, at the end of 2020. No date or price has yet been revealed.

As a lifelong Xbox user (I own both Xbox 360 and Xbox One), I think it is time for me to switch to PlayStation. As a result, I am unlikely to buy XBox Series X.
