Younis Khan - 2007 Final and 2011 SF vs India

Was just recently watching few Match Highlights so unfortunately got to watch world t20 final 2007 and WC 2011 SF both vs India.
In Both Matches Pakistan were chasing average totals which were very get-able.

Pak were chasing 156 Runs got off to a bad start but than Imran Nazir counter attacked scoring 21 runs vs Sressanth in the 2nd Over. But on the other hand Younis kept playing dots than played Out a Maiden in 4th over than couple of overs latter he got Imran Nazir Run Out , who was absolutely smashing the indians scooring 31 of 14 balls . Even after that dimissal Younis kept wasting balls than eventually got out when the RR had touched about 10.

Chasing 260 Runs Pak got off to a good start but when Hafeez feel Younis joined Shafiq and slowed the scoring rate down and eventually got out scoring 13 of 32 leaving Pak 107-4 leaving the RR 6+.


So this guy caused us 2 of our worst defeats in the last decades because of these innings i don't really rate him as a Legend

What about the time when he staged a hissy fit to play the ODI series against Eng in UAE, only to announce retirement after one game. As usual, putting the team first.

Yep, he's a bigger reason for disaster in the 2011 semi as well when compared to Misbah.

Have heard few people say he should've never retired from t2s in 2009 after winning the trophy which is downright hilarious. You can't have a specialist captain.

I'll put it this way, for all his amazing and definitely praiseworthy contributions to Pakistan cricket, he has done his fair share of damage to it as well.

216 At SCG against Indian bowling of that time is a very avg target even for that time frame .... you forget that 260 was in a S/F and against Ind ... much difficult even though the total appears to be avg for the current times.

Iam not comparing careers of YK with JM ... just stating that bigger and better players have done worse in big matches. These things happen.

I get that, I'm saying that this is not a one-off with YK, these are 2/3 of the biggest occasions where he botched it with the bat in LOI cricket.

Was the main culprit of our losses in many ODIs. Worst ODI player in history to play more than 150 games. His innings at mohali was worse than Misbahs

He was never a MoYo-like-quality batsman. His strength was carrying on for marathon innings when the conditions were easier to bat on.

Younis was one of the worse player to play ODI for Pakistan, who was very good player in test. That was a dilemma, in past our top players were equally good in all format. This has changed in recent past, Younis, Misbah, Shafiq and Azhar, all are fairly good in test( in some cases thanks to most tests in Asia), but were well below average in ODIs/T20s. Hence the reason for our #8 ranking.

Blame is not only on the players, pitches where we have been playing most of the our test cricket in last decade has effect on our output. We are struggling to find fast bowlers and batsmen who can play them. But management also overly relied on Misbah/Younis brand of Cricket for 2/3 years longer than needed, that has dented our brand, it is going to take sometime to get the exciting players back. Part of the problem was nobody in management thought that brand of cricket was a problem, until over ranking plummeted and we lost 6 tests in a row. I hope we move away from those one dimensional players and style of play and demand more dynamic players with flair and attitude. We do our best when we nurture such players.

Younis didn't know how to play ODIs,used to waste 10 overs mostly but he isn't even that slow in tests last year his double came at a SR of 75
