Yep! India never won a lot of series outside India. And it was very important for them to protect their proud home record. In this context, no one was more important than Sehwag(batting wise) in term of winning matches.I think many fans rate players based on recent performances otherwise Sehwag is in surely class of his own. Cricket has been played for so long, how many test openers have dominated the way he did? He simply allowed not so good bowling unit plenty of extra time by scoring so quickly and heavily in many matches.
80+ SR as an opener with 50 odd average for 100+ test match. Simply an unmatched performance. He is surely underrated by many due to his last few series.
He did not do too badly abroad in the first half of his career either. I remember him getting a 100 in quick time at Trent Bridge and also a 90 at Lords in the same series (2002) . India would have really struggled in Australia in 2003 without his knocks at the top.
