I don't think that Sanga really comes in contention when you have such a dominating performance in entire tournament by a bowler when batting is ruling the WC. See how many 100s are scored in this WC.

Also, Sanga playing so pathetic in QF takes away many brownie points from him. Starc has been great in pretty much all matches and no poor display. Even without that point, Starc should take it in my opinion. having said that I am biased towards bowlers at times and awards often goes to batsmen.

I think they need to have a best batsman/best bowler award to compensate for it.

Basically the idea is to give recognition to the players who barely missed out on the player of the tournament award. Its quite unfair on someone like Sangakkara to go home empty handed with the second highest tally (just 6 runs short of Guptill) while having played 2 games less, not to mention 4 consecutive tons.
