Finch Out early - Boult again!!!

Michael Clarke after the semifinal:

'Don't be surprised if Finch walks out in Melbourne and scores a brilliant hundred'

Finch then gets a duck.

There's a reason I created a "Suicide McCullum" thread last Tuesday.

Clarke attacks with intelligence. McCullum plunged his team into trouble with a third air swing even after the first two swung. And they never recovered.

You have to adapt to the conditions and the occasion.

McCullum chooses not to.

This

McCullum is a Hack, his stupidest approach costing the team

True. McCullum was worse than Afridi today. Even he of all people would have blocked a few upfront.

And he has a lot to learn as captaincy is concerned. Clarke is clearly the better of the two. Dont think he would have removed the second slip to Warner in this situation.

How good Clarke has been with his captaincy this whole tournament. That has made a big difference too imo.

Ditto. He has the ability to get a 100 off 100 but he always chooses 30 off 20 instead. At least while playing in Australia he should have looked to survive and then attack.

McCullum aggressive captaincy disappeared very quickly. He had only one slip when Warner gave a chance against Southee.

I always maintained that it's very easy to set 4 slips when ball is swinging a lot and you have good swing bowlers.

Yep captaincy is always dependent on resources and situation which people to understand

And you watch, for the third game in a row he will overbowl Boult at the start.

So if 85-1 becomes 90-2, he won't have a pair of 3 over Boult spells up his sleeve.

I like McCullum's courage, but I wish he would learn from his mistakes.

That's why captains using their limited resources should be rated high.

There is hardly any brownie points for putting 4 slips when ball is swinging a lot and you have bowlers to use those conditions. That's a default action anyway.

Starc has to be man of the tournament, as good as Boult has been, Starc played one match less, has a far better average SR Economy as well as being the best player in the winning team. Ruled everyone with the ball in an era of flat pitches and batsmen dominating.

No pyrotechnics needed, they just need to bat sensibly, see off Boult and Southee and this total will not be out of reach by any means. I was never worried about having to bowl first on an Aussie patta because I knew our bowlers would put pressure on them, which they did. Just need the batsmen to finish the job now.

I have also said all along that BJ Watling and not Wonky Donkey should be the keeper.

Watling has a Test ton in South Africa against Steyn, Philander and Morkel. Ronchi just bullies midgets. Who's going to score runs in a World Cup Final?

Comfortably. Unreal performance given pitch conditions and dominating performance by batsmen. Pure gold.

Has been just as impressive at the death, when all others have been getting smacked around. Phenomenal. Quite possibly the most naturally gifted cricketer going around. Height, effortless pace, left arm angle, swinging it both ways, vicious bouncer and the best yorkers going around.

Is he Aussie?

Yes I'm Australian mate. I'm based in Boston but am from Sydney.

Somewhere between normal and excited. Satisfied thus far. I'll probably get a bit more excited the closer to the end it gets. I was very excited when Macca got dismissed, followed by the rest of the top order. I was a bit worried when Elliott and Taylor were putting their partnership together but I felt we had the bowlers to continue to apply pressure even when Starc, Hazlewood and Jonno were spelled and they were bowling well without much luck. If you keep applying pressure all the time and bowl in the right areas and support the bowlers with aggressive fielding eventually the wickets will come and NZ looked like they were shellshocked especially when Taylor was dismissed.

People talk about needing to bat first on an Aussie patta but I never subscribed to that theory. Teams should be good enough to bat or chase and Aus wickets have always been like that. The people who say that probably don't have teams that have the bowling attack to apply pressure.

183, if we don't chase it we don't deserve to win the WC, simple as that.

Warner goes...such a cowlasher. But he did his job. 60-odd runs knocked off the total.

I rate Watling and have advocated for his inclusion in ODIs over Ronchi, but it's understandable because he is counterproductive to the brand of cricket they are playing.

They have two aggressive openers, 3 middle order anchors and than aggressive hitters in Corey and Ronchi. Watling has no role to play there, wheh they are looking at a par total of 350 everytime they bat first or look to chase totals down at over 7 runs per over. However, if the top order doesn't fire, their lack of grit is exposed and that's what happened today.

How much cricket has Bhogle played?

a couple of street cricket games in is teenage but then the other boys started bullying him for being a nerd and made him carry drinks :kakmal

Well that's two more games than Yahya Husseini :))).

Sangakkara would feel hard done by, but looks like Starc will edge it.

I don't think that Sanga really comes in contention when you have such a dominating performance in entire tournament by a bowler when batting is ruling the WC. See how many 100s are scored in this WC.

Also, Sanga playing so pathetic in QF takes away many brownie points from him. Starc has been great in pretty much all matches and no poor display. Even without that point, Starc should take it in my opinion. having said that I am biased towards bowlers at times and awards often goes to batsmen.

Amazing how quickly Clark's form bounced back from injury. He must have done a lot of hard work in the intervening period.

Seems like NZ's pace bowling is the most lethal in their home conditions a la English bowling. They seem ordinary outside of NZ.

what an underwhelmng final

aur neend bhi kharaab

Offtopic you should try the Malaysian restaurant Penang, the food is awesome. Try the black pepper crab and Mango chicken :inzi
Ashraful_Rox That's one of my all time favourites. The only place that serves decent rendang which I miss from Australia :D

Slow agony for the New Zealanders. Australians have managed the game well and not allowed NZ bowlers to get on top of them. Nothing in the pitch to worry the Australian batsmen.

They've won it five times
They've won it five tiiiimes
At MCG
They've won it five times.

Has Vettori done his Achilles again? He can hardly move!
