23 wickets fall on day 1 of the 2nd Test between South Africa (55, 62/3) and India (153)

On difficult pitches, Kohli is the best among fab 4. Look at the difference in levels. Only ABDV was at this level in the last 20 years.
Given his indifferent form he has been impeccable in judgement today. Vintage stuff. Won't say he is back to his best. Not close. But he is good at picking the lenght. He is generally good on bouncy wickets. His issue is movement with 7the stump line.

This is like the 2018 Johannesburg pitch between the same two countries. There were murmurs about calling off that match due to the pitch's dangerous nature. Bhuvi was breaking fingers and knuckles there with his 125 kph thunderbolts. Kohli was imperious there and Pujara, Rahane put their bodies on the line to secure a test win.

Among SENA countries only Australia provide fair pitches. Others doctor and SA, NZ take it to the extreme against SC teams.

Elgar sooked the most in that test about the pitch. Imagine wanting to stop a home test match due to not being able to encounter a pitch against a subcon team.

If this was an indian pitch...imagine the hits on the internet with doctored wickets, home track bullies, BCCI> ICC etc...i have no problem if it turns big on the first day, as long as the BOUNCE is EVEN. if its uneven bounce on the first day, you know wicket is going to deteriorate...we need to get a big l

83 ahead , another 80-85 runs & game over . 138/4

NZ pitches aer luck based. Sometimes they arebatting beauties depending on when you bat. But SA does the worst. Sometimes it backfires. Sreesanth's dismissal of Jacque kallis is legendary. Ball just reared off from a good length and Kallis had no answer. SA bowled out for 84 runs.

Yes, he and Amla wanted to walk off while Indians were adamant to continue the game. Indians under Kohli-Shastri were always there for a fight.

Elgar continued to sook in India about the pitches, hotels, food because SA was getting mauled badly.

Yeah, a sook is a sook is a sook.

Will miss his sooks post this test though.

partnership of 34 with Rahul contributing 1

144-4; Lead by 89 runs

On Elgar, its really weird to see CSA making him captain for this test. Does it happen regularly?

Even Shaun pollock is critical of the pitch. He wants pitches like you see in Australia. I agree with him. This is why they get bullied in subcontinent. Last time they toured I ndia. They lost two tests by an innings. Another test by close to 300 runs after India declared in both innings. Humiliaring 0-3.
SA got 0-3 last two times in India. 0-3 and 0-2 whitewashes in SL. 0-2 whitewash in Pak.

They are on a 13 game losing streak in these countries, not even a draw in the last 8 or 9 years. They toured Bangladesh last in 2014 when they had AB, Steyn, Amla and drew the 2 test series 0-0.

Also Remember kohli’s chiding of Vijay to continue playing in the middle and not show any discomfort while being hit on the fingers/body.

Totally agreed about Elgar being a big sook (always has this condescending tone about pitches in India when he plays).

Philander’s way of saying “sion” as “sun” is getting on my nerves 😅

Eg., Decision becomes Decisun

How can he sook about Indian pitches when he can't even bat properly on his own pitches?

last over by Rabada this spell probably - wonder if Keshav gets a bowl ...93 lead looks nice .

Yep. Some of these guys always have got the gall to be over critical of our pitches while being silent on their less than ideal and at times dangerous for batters pitches.

Funny thing is Kohli scored an unbeaten 250. Rohit 3 daddy 100s in 3 tests and along with Mayank was giving 300 run opening partnerships. Even Rahane was smashing them. Ashwin was the leading wicket taker but Shami and Umesh almost matched him in wickets tally unlike in SA where spinner doesn't even get a bowl.

India showing precisely why they are the number one team. How many teams can respond to 36 all out and an innings defeat in the first test in the manner that they do?

Pakistan in comparison has made a habit of playing worse and worse as the series progresses

KL always does well in one innings per series. No wonder his average is so low.

To be honest to Pakistan, they've played really well on the day 1 of SCG test

Another 50 runs please. A lead of 150 here will be insurmountable even for an ATG batting team.

fancy Aussies getting bowled out for 350 ?

Disagree, Australia is number one right now.

A team coached by clueless Dravid can and should never be number one in anything.

No wonder, they are nowhere near the top in any of the formats.

Ashwin would have scored at least 10-15 runs on this pitch and would have bowled some tight overs too.

Feel sorry for Kohli, he has been carrying such a useless batting lineup on his back for so long.

Thakur or even Ashwin at the lower order instead of Prasidh would have been better in such scenario.

We should see curtains soon for this innings.

Jadeja is not good enough to play any cricket (not even IPL) except for, may be home tests.

India's batting is all Kohli and Rohit in overseas conditions without these two the batting line up is thin. The Indian bowling line up of Bhumra, Shami, Siraj, Ashwin, Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav also successfully bridges the gap

Have a feeling this match will go close. Won't be surprised to see SA be around 150 for 3..in the 2nd inngs and setting Ind an uncomfortable chase of 150+ in the last inngs, which Ind will mess up!

17 wickets in 57 overs.

Will ICC rate this pitch as excellent as they always do in SA? Will foreign experts speak up? Or is pitch criticism a thing only when venue is SC?

SA is such a poor place to cricket. ODI pitches are flattest and test pitches are disgrace like this.

I would love to see Prasidh bat. Utter useless with the ball :dhoni

falling like ninepins out there, SA right back in this game
surely some fines are in order for this disgrace of a pitch though!

What's happening here. Total abject collapse by India. 5 wickets for 0 runs

20 wickets in less than 3 sessions on day 1

This is crazy
