Arsenal FC | 2020/21 Season

This is a guy who thinks I was bad for thinking sterling would flop in 2015 while he though sterling was going to be the Messi

Now his backing of Arteta must be the biggest joke of footballing history, surly surpasses his own record of buffoonery of backing modi.

This is the thread where we had the discussion on Sterling. Please show me the post where I claimed that Sterling will be the next Messi?

You cannot, so please apologize.

However, we can all see your laughable assessment of Sterling, Depay and Martial. Your posts clearly didn’t age well.

Lol, don’t resort to exaggerations to cover up your embarrassment. I never said Sterling is going to be Messi.

Messi is the greatest of all time, no one is close to him, let alone Sterling, who is leagues and leagues below him.

Your argument was that Sterling would flop at City and that Depay is better than him. I rubbished your assessment because it obvious by 2015 that Sterling was a great talent and much better than Depay.

6 years later, we can all see who was right and whose delusional claims backfired in spectacular fashion.

Who cares, you exaggerated on sterling because you can't defend your own nonsense, you clearly called sterling will be a great player, he is anything but that, not even close. still an overhyped English player.

Depay had great talent but had no one to nurture him, would have been a different scenario had it been him with pep rather then sterling

Clearly you are just trying to hide your own embarrassment of backing a clown like Arteta, there's absolutely nothing more embarrassing then that ever written on this forum, not even your posts that back modi.

The skepticism among Arsenal fans regarding Odegaard is largely due to the fact that they get the impression that he is a Real Madrid outcast who cannot cut it in their first-team. If he was bought for 30-40 million from some small club there would be a lot of excitement and hype surrounding him.

He is actually an excellent player and a better footballer than Pepe. He is intelligent and technically gifted, and played really well for Sociedad and Vitesse in the Dutch league.

If he gets proper exposure and playing time, he has the potential to become a one of the best players in the world in his position in a few year’s time.

If Arsenal has an opportunity to sign him permanently they should immediately do it. They will live to regret it down the line.

He has started well. But I will wait until the end of the season before saying we should sign him permanently. We don’t know for certain what Real have planned for him as well. So we may not have the chance to sign him even if we want to.

If the team shows improvement they will stick with him, it doesn’t matter if he finishes 4th, 5th or 6th.

It is not right to be rigid about making top 4 and getting fixated with positions. You can miss top 4 by 1-2 points as well, it doesn’t mean anything.

Klopp made top 4 in his second season but only by a point. Had he missed out by a point and Liverpool would have sacked him, it would have been Liverpool’s loss.

Rival fans don’t understand Arsenal’s philosophy. Arsenal is a not a trigger happy club that gives managers ultimatum and then sacks them.

They predicted Arteta to be sacked in December but it was obvious that it was not going to happen, and now they expect him to be gone next season if he doesn’t make top 4.

It won’t happen. Arsenal’s culture is different. As long as Arteta shows continues to build on his good work recently, he will stay in his job regardless of whether he can make top 4 next season or not.

Arsenal is not a club that is going to spend big one summer in the hope of making top 4 or fight for the title right away; it will focus on making incremental steps. Arteta will fight for the top 4 and eventually for the title as well, but it will take 4-5 years.

Emery got sacked within 2 seasons because of two major reasons: 1. The structure of the club was remodeled after Wenger and Emery was the head coach not manager. 2. There was a communication barrier between him and the players.

The structure has now reverted back to the Wenger era and Arteta is now a manager and not a head coach, and in the future he will have a greater say in how the club is run and in the transfer window.

He is the true successor to Wenger after the club went into a different direction briefly with Emery and it did not work. Arteta is not going anywhere and he will slowly but surely make things much better.

I agree Managers should get more time, at least a couple of years imo. But money trumps structure or planning. Arsenal like other big clubs have spent believing they will qualify for champions league this season, wont happen. Imo if you dont finish in top 4 next season, the fans will want change. Arsenal have some fickle young fans now, they dont have patience, Ive seen them in the ground.

Arsenal must not put a foot wrong in the second leg - Saka

Bukayo Saka warned his Arsenal team-mates that they cannot put a foot wrong when they face Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie after his goal earned them a draw in the first game in Rome.

Played in Rome's Olympic Stadium instead of Portugal for Covid-19 reasons, the Gunners were the better side but failed to take a number of first-half chances before falling behind to a Pizzi penalty.

However, they responded quickly with Cedric Soares crossing low for England winger Saka to level from close range.

The England winger is now determined not to allow his side to suffer the same European fate as last season, when a goal in the last minute of extra time saw Olympiakos advance to the last 16 on away goals at Arsenal's expense.

"It is about managing the game," Saka told BT Sport. "Last year when we went out to Olympiakos we conceded a silly goal. We can't put a foot wrong because if we do we will make it difficult for ourselves.

"We had a lot of chances tonight. We dominated the whole game. They got a lucky penalty which I don't think was. We had to react well.

"We got a goal back and could have gone on to win it. It's not the worst result, we got an away goal."

Benfica's penalty was awarded when Emile Smith Rowe was adjudged to have handled in blocking Diogo Goncalves' cross, with Pizzi converting to take his goal tally to a tournament-high of seven.

Fresh from scoring a hat-trick against Leeds in the Premier League, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had two big chances in the game but inexplicably side-footed wide from close range with the score at 0-0 and then dragged an effort off target at 1-1.

In positive news for the Gunners, left-back Kieran Tierney and forward Gabriel Martinelli made welcome returns from injury as second-half substitutes.

The second leg is in Athens in a week's time, sandwiched between two big league fixtures for the Gunners - the visit of Manchester City to the Emirates and a trip to Leicester.

Arsenal just make it through to the next round with the skin of their teeth. A couple of goals by Aubameyang being crucial but it was the determination and attitude by Kieran Tierney that brought them back into the game.

There was some nonsense written about him such he is an "old style" or traditional left back. But once again, KT dispelling that myth. It was a well taken goal that brought the game level and the tie on parity but Arsenal facing the exit due to the away goals rule.

The goal gave Arsenal the confidence to seek the third goal that would take them through which Aubameyang duly obliged.

Really good win and great performance. Willian played well. Cedric linked up with Pepe really well as well.

Alhamdolillah we are no longer Leicester City’s whipping boys

They're not all that better than Brighton, though, which is the reality of it.

This is a weird season. West Ham is doing better than Liverpool and Spurs.

Arsenal will finish 9th or 10th, and with some luck it can even sneak into 7th or 8th.

All this talk of relegation was nonsense. The era of big clubs getting relegated is done and dusted. No traditional top 6 club will ever get relegated again.

It was only a matter of building confidence after 2-3 wins and the 3-1 win over Chelsea on Boxing Day was the turning point in this season.

Since then, Arsenal have had a few bad results but overall, they have looked like a much better team and our playing with conviction with belief.

People need to exercise patience - Arteta is a really good manager and he has a good foundation to build on over the next 3-4 years.

The current crop of young players is the best the club has had in years and the deadwood has largely cleared out with the last few remnants on their way out as well.

Arsenal will be a top 4 contender by 2023-24.

Arsenal are among a number of clubs considering a summer move for RB Leipzig's 21-year-old French defender Ibrahima Konate. (Standard).

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta after 1-1 draw against Burnley:

"It's a really tough place to come on a difficult pitch, but I have to say we should have scored the big chances we had. When you miss the chances we had, and you do not get decisions, it is complicated to win football games. If that is not a penalty, then someone needs to explain what one is.

"From what we produced, you have to come here and win. When you do not, you have to look at yourself. We completely dominated the first half but they make it difficult with a lot of long ball.

"We generated chances and we should have won by two or three goals. if you give any hope to any team in the Premier League, they are going to take it."

Can’t wait for this season to end and play champion’s league football next year.

Oh wait....

Konate is a gem of a talent who will be elite for years to come. A much bigger talent than the ***** Saliba.

It is highly unlikely that Arsenal will sign him because he is going to attract the interest of top clubs, but if Arsenal can pull it off it is going to be incredible.

Nervous, excited, scared - it must be derby day.

A little over 2 hours to go. My head is telling me Spurs are the big favourites, but my heart's saying that anything can happen! I would do anything for a repeat of that 4-2 victory from Emery's first season. However, our record has been extremely poor recently in NLD's

BREAKING: Mikel Arteta confirms Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been dropped due to disciplinary issues.

shaykh

Do you think Arsenal will survive the relegation battle?

Odegaard needs to be signed permanently. He has immense technical quality and he has visibly improved the team. He is playing better than what Ozil managed in the last 3 years.

Mourinho will cry about the penalty decision and I would agree that it was not the right call, but these things happen. Spurs have had favorable decisions multiple times this season.

Apart from the last 10 mins where Spurs upped the ante after the red card and Arsenal were sloppy in possession, Arsenal dominated the game and deserved to win the match.

Mamoon another win for Arteta against a big manager. But we are told Ole is the better manager.

If Zidane stays at Real Madrid he will probably stay at Arsenal but maybe on loan because I keep hearing Real don't want to let him go permanently.

They're still tenth..

Which is not good enough. But there is clear progression in terms of style of play and certain players.

Fans who just say to Arsenal fans "your in 10th" don't watch Arsenal. You just concentrate on your own team.

I'm not sure there is. It's always two steps back. Kim Jung Mikel needs to do more work on the training pitch, shore up discipline and teach game management. The defence needs work too. This is a mid-table team going nowhere. With the likes of Allegro available, much like Tuchel and Arsenal, it begs the question.

Most of goals that we conceded from player errors not the way we are set up. Arteta has shown he can set up a defence and can implement a style of play.

The fact you think our defence is weak shows you don't really watch Arsenal. Our issue in the first half of the season was creating chances. But in the 2nd half of the season that has improved.

Allegri has been avaliable for 2 years and no top team has gone near him. There must be a reason for that.

Played well today and deserved the win.

Good on Arteta not bowing to a discipline breach from his star player and leaving him on the bench.

This team should be a lot higher than they are in the table, but they concede so many stupid goals.

The reason is the premium he will charge and the blank cheque book he will also demand. With Arteta we will never make it into top 4.

Good win but nothing seems convincing at AFC

It seems as if we could sign Pep and 3/4 Barca legends and Arsenal will still let you down more often than not.

The reason is the premium he will charge and the blank cheque book he will also demand. With Arteta we will never make it into top 4.

Allegri wouldnt even accept the job if given it, Arsenal missed the bus to appoint a top manager after Emery got sacked, they could have easily lured in Brendon Rogers, now the best they could do is go for someone with proven EPL experience like Nuno who will suit Arsenal and get your players like Auba, Partey, Willian, guez, torrieni back up and running without asking for a chequebook.

If Zidane stays at Real Madrid he will probably stay at Arsenal but maybe on loan because I keep hearing Real don't want to let him go permanently.

Madrid needs to sell a few players this summer and Odegaard will never start there. He could also push for a permanent transfer. It is very much doable if Arsenal show interest which I think they will. He has had a positive impact.

People need to calm down and learn football. The same people who were demanding Arteta to get sacked in December because he was getting Arsenal relegated are now crying about 10th position.

The reality is that Arsenal are only 2 points behind Liverpool and 4 points behind Spurs who have vastly superior squads and experienced, proven managers.

Arteta took over from Emery at a point where the team had no identity and no playing style.

He has tried to develop a system and it has not been a smooth ride because it takes time to adapt plus a lot of players do not have the quality that Arteta is looking for. Moreover, the pandemic and the suspension of football disrupted his plans.

The club has also not backed him properly in the market and failed to secure the creative midfielder that he wanted, and the loan signing of Odegaard has visibly improved the play and showed the importance of a technically gifted player.

Although he doesn’t have the same quality, Odegaard is fulfilling the Bernardo Silva role for Arteta and he has improved the creativity and retention of possession in the final third.

With Saka, ESR, Odegaard, the team is looking very good in terms of creativity. If the latter doesn’t sign permanently he will need to be replaced with another creative player.

Arsenal is on the right track and will need to sign a younger striker alongside Martinelli and a younger CB over the next couple of windows.

I have no doubt in my mind that Arteta will take Arsenal to the top 4 soon and eventually mount a serious challenge for the league title.

They could sell Ceballos ,Isoc, and Asensio. They seem adamant that they want to keep him. Our best chance is another loan it seems.

Yes we can make top 4 under Arteta. He has made improvement since Christmas.

So Arsenal make it to the final 8 of the Europa League, losing 1-0 on the night but beating Olympiacos 3-2 on aggregate.

Pretty poor performance, but job done. Aubamryang, Ceballos, Elneny were all less than impressive. As soon as Odegaard and Partey came on, we started to play a lot more fluently. This is probably going to be the last time we can get away with rotating those key players. From now till the end of the season, the likes of Smith Rowe, Saka, Odegaard, Partey need to be playing maximum minutes. We cannot slip up.

Martinelli just in 10 minutes was the brightest spark in the whole game, he really needs to be getting more minutes I think.

Overall, with a 3-1 lead from the first leg, we never really showed up to the game until the subsitutions, but I'm happy we've made it through.

Ah well, we got our convenient home defeat out of the way for this month. Thankfully it hasn’t costed us much as it usually does...

We need to win at all costs and pay off Man U if we must. They will qualify for CL anyway. I am willing to forgive Arteta for this casually poor season with all of those red cards and pathetic, self inflicted defeats if he can deliver us back into Champions League.

Villarreal and Zagreb are tough propositions as well. Need a lot of luck as well.

Both Aubameyang and Lacazette need to leave. Their goofy bromance is a problem and they lack the professionalism and attitude that you require from your senior players.

Aubameyang is not captaincy material and he will be 32 in the summer. It is the right time to move on from both.

Play Martinelli as CF and get a new ST.

We have a great chance. Just need to avoid mistakes and take chances when we are on top. I hope we don’t play Manchester United. I know we can beat them, but don’t want another Baku situation against an English side.

It’s going to be harder than that I feel. The level of competition these days is a lot tougher than years before.

Zagreb, Prague, Ajax and Emery’s Villarreal are very good sides too. In fact, it would be pretty appropriate of our season for Emery to knock Arteta out.

And in one-off cup ties, those teams become even more dangerous.

Having said all that, Arsenal and Man United are clearly the 2 strongest teams. If we stay injury free and our main players start each game, I’m confident we can beat all except United (a game against them would be very 50-50).

Lacazette will have 1 year left on his contract, and there are no signs of renewal talks. He will almost certainly be moved on in the summer.

Next summer should be Aubameyang’s departure, not this one. We need defensive and midfield reinforcements far more urgently, so the focus should be on that.

Martinelli should inherit Lacazette’s place in the squad. With ESR, Martinelli and Aubamyeang all able to play on the left too, a lot of interesting and exciting combinations can be forged. Martinelli will have plenty of minutes to play, even if Aubameyang stays.

You can say whatever you like about Aubameyang’s professionalism, but he’s been our most important player of the post-Wenger era. He’s got the most Premier League goals in the entire league since his debut 3 years ago. He’s got 60 goals in all competitions across the previous 2 seasons and a PL golden boot. His 4 goals at Wembley last year is the reason we’re even in the Europa League, and one of the reasons Arteta is still in a job.

A bad half of a season does not change all that, and he’s currently got 6 league goals in his last 7 games anyway.

This team does not have a problem with professionalism. Look at the youngsters who have been training with our “problematic” senior players, for years in some cases: Saka, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Gabriel. Model professionals. The team has a problem with mediocre players, whom Aubameyang has been carrying for years.

Arsenal draw Slavia Prague in the Europa League quarter final. Good draw.

If we win, we will face the winner of Zagreb vs Villarreal

Lacazette will leave in the summer as he has 1 year left on his contract.

Auba signed a new contract last summer, I don’t see him going anywhere.

Martnelli has a lot to do to show he can be a top class CF. I would definitely sign a more physical striker as a replacement for Lacazette, keep Auba and continue to develop Martnelli.

Appalling and disgusting racist abuse by Slavia's Kudela towards Glen Kamara, an ex-Arsenal youth player. Their 'ultras' pondlife fans are even worse with a vile banner taunting the Rangers player.

Here the cretins have used the N-word. I hope the Gunners pump the scummy b%$*! in the next round.

And I was wrong!

WHU 3-3 Arsenal

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, speaking to Sky Sports: "We had the pressure, we knew it was a big game. We have to work a lot to be ready for the end of the season. It is really complicated, this kind of game, we need to work a lot.

"We knew even after the bad first half we could come back and score more."

Martin Oedegaard keeps impressing. He was involved in all 3 goals and every time he got the ball in 2nd half he created chances. He just needs to be more brave. Looking forward to see him play with Haaland for Norway.

Phenomenal character shown by the team. They fought back to a 3-3 draw when it could have easily been 4-1 or 5-1 for West Ham.

Arteta has instilled a lot of fight and courage in this team. The mentality is certainly improving.

Also, what a player Odegaard is. As I have said multiple times already, Arsenal must do all they can to sign him permanently. He has the talent and the mentality to be one of the best players in the world.

For the first time Arteta went all Wenger Style in the second half.
Took off Xhaka, brought on Smith-Rowe in his place and bang we were all out attack like the good old times...

Against traditionally poorer teams is see no point in playing two holding midfielders, it takes away our creativity and this is why we're not potent against teams we would easily beat, at least at home.

Sort out our jackel and Hyde performances and with more consistency we can go places... BUT that first 35 minutes in the first half was inexplicable

How good could Arsenal be if they weren't Arsenal. How can we just flick a switch and go from the worst 30 minutes of the season to the best 60 minutes of the season? It's just inexplicable.

Every time we're brilliant, we have to follow it up by being equally bad. Wolves (A) first vs second half, Olympiakos first vs second leg.

Then sometimes when we're horrible, we follow it up with brilliance, like yesterday.

In Arsenal's last 9 league games, we've won 3, drawn 3 and lost 3. 9th in the league.

The definition of average. Equally brilliant, equally diabolical. So so infuriating

The problem is Arteta was overhyped from the start, and made to be a messiah just because he put some cones out for Pep once upon a time. He hasn't been tested , you can have all the tactics you want but if you cant communicate to your players or get the man management side of things right then you will fail. Everyone talking about how great a manager he was to orchestrate a comeback 2nd half, Arsenal should never have been in that position in the first place.

Compare him to Ole who is on the other end of the spectrum in terms of ability and nous if the papers are anything to go by , but he seems a lot more comfortable in his role.

I think the fact that Ole is one of the worst coaches , and is sitting at second says a lot about the quality of the rest of the league, take out pep , ancelotti, Klopp (poor season) , tuchel , maybe even rodgers everyone else is easily replaceable, says it all about the calibre of coaches at the moment.

Either way both local clubs to me, Barnet more so as I live in the Borough.

Nice to know your a local though, I'm literally a stones throw away from our new stadium .

We must do whatever we can to sign him up.
He's been brilliant and taken to premier league much quicker then expected.

Martin Odergard came off injured in Norway’s game. It looked to be an ankle injury. Hopefully it’s nothing to serious. Doing an international break at this stage of the season was an absolutely ridiculous decision. Not just because of the Covid situation, players have played a lot of games in short succession. Would have been better to give players 2 weeks off or just continue the season as normal.

Odegaard is a breath of Fresh air.

Him, Saka and Smith Rowe are our most penetrating players since a long time.

I actually kind of like Lacazette and I hope he stays, it’s Aubameyang who might be the one we look to off-load and bring in another attacking winger in place.

Happy to give Pepe another season, the guy definitely can impact any game.

Pepe yet to reach Bolasie levels

Arsenal have no chance of signing Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard, 22, on a permanent deal, with the Spanish giants still seeing the Norway attacking midfielder as a key part of their long-term plans. (Marca)

Your comments on Arsenal are bizarre. You clearly don’t watch us. Pepe has been really good in the last 2/3 months. It’s disappointing that Arteta has not given him a run of starts.

One cross assist then a scuffed shot at point-blank is Arsenal's level nowadays.

No it actually isn’t. He has been threatening, setting up chances and getting into goal scoring positions. As I said I can tell you don’t watch Arsenal, your making up lies on an Internet forum. Which show your “levels” currently.
