Arsenal FC | 2020/21 Season

AFTV's Claude has passed away. He was the best of that bunch. Really sad to hear about this.

Yep, devastating. Has been struggling with depression and mental health issues for a long time. He often tweeted or said suicidal things casually as if they were normal.

I havent followed him on SM but he seemed like a guy who only cared about Arsenal FC and the football, unlike the rest from AFTV who seem like its about them, the fame, money and the likes.

I think being taken off took its toll on him.

Claude had mental health issues for some time. The only thing keeping him going was going to Arsenal matches and appearing on AFTV. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic and lockdown, he couldn’t go to matches anymore. And he got kicked off AFTV, because he said “DVD” in relation to Tottenham’s Son and apparently that is offensive to Asians.

He is yet again another victim of this ** woke cancel culture. I feel so bad that he was suffering alone in his final days. Even as a non Arsenal fan, I respect him so much. He was a genuine Arsenal fan who didn’t care about fame unlike the other clowns on AFTV like DT, Troopz. May he rest in peace.

why would a DVD be offensive to Asians? Perhaps a local reference?

David Luiz faces a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury that may require surgery, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

The 33-year-old was absent from Arsenal's 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday with a knee problem but did play the full 90 minutes when the Gunners drew 3-3 with West Ham before the international break.

Luiz will definitely miss the next few weeks according to Arteta, as the club discuss with doctors whether the Brazilian defender requires surgery.

All said and done they'll miss his ball carrying...

The performance yesterday was simply not good enough. The league season is dead for us but we cannot be performing like that. It’s all the Europa League now.

I am sticking by Arteta regardless of what happens in the Europa League. I have seen enough improvement since Christmas to believe if he gets better players he will take us up the table. I think it’s personally a bit stupid deciding a managers future on a cup competition.

Mikel Arteta says the Europa League is "all or nothing" for Arsenal ahead of his side's quarter-final first leg with Slavia Prague.

With the Gunners 10 points off a top-four spot, winning the Europa League is their most realistic chance of playing in next season's Champions League.

"We want to be in the semi-finals and we know how important the game is for us," added Arteta.

Full-back Kieran Tierney is facing up to six weeks out with a knee injury.

Lineup's been announced for this 1st leg of the UEL quarter final against Prague.

Some good news thankfully. Xhaka, Smith Rowe and Saka all fit and return to the team. Cedric comes in at LB for Tierney.

Aubameyang and Pepe both dropped from the Liverpool game, with Odegaard unfit for the game. Chambers dropped for Bellerin.

Once again, Arteta selects Willian over Martinelli.

That arsenal team isn't mid-table. Funny how bringing on Martinelli & Pepe changed the game. Dumb manager

How does Martinelli not start and Willian does? Willian is nothing but a mercenary, while Martinelli is a talented young lad who is hungry to prove himself. I think Arteta can be a good manager, as the potential is there, but he is so bloody stubborn with some of his decisions. If Arsenal go out next week, he needs to be sacked.

Arteta did make some errors in terms of team selection and subs but these players are absolute joke. Lacazette continually missing chances, Willian performing poorly, and errors at the back.

No just this game, he's made glaring errors in countless games.

Partey
Tierney
Gabriel
Saliba
Martnelli
Saka
Smith Rowe

These are the only first team players I am desperate to keep. This is the size of the job Arteta has, most of this square we need to get rid of. This is a 3/4 transfer window clear out and incomings. There are some players who i would be ok with keeping bug a majority of this squad needs replacing.

I have heard Arteta will get a new contract. So he is not going anywhere anytime soon. I hope KSE will back him in the transfer market. And I hope Edu and the scouting team are upto the job.

I don't get the blind praise for Partey. If that was Xhaka, everyone would be on his case.

Speaking of Xhaka, he's been terrific for us of late.

Partey is a top class player. He will come good trust me.

Xhaka has been great recently, his limitations hold us back and he makes too many mistakes. He won’t be sold in the summer which I can live with. But we need a better player than him to partner Partey long term.

Bro from what I've seen of these two, it is Xhaka who we desperately need to retain. Partey has been horrible and I fear he's going to be another flop of signing for us.

When you take Partey out, have you seen how crap our midfield looks lol? I think he is still coming back from his injury.

I'm not convinced it's any better with him in it but I'd be glad to be proven wrong in the coming months.

Not sure if you guys have watched it but thoughts?

I have watched it.

Whilst I fear there is more to this Aubameyang situation, I would not listen to Neville too much when it comes to Arsenal. He hardly watches us play and he says the same thing about us needing players which is common knowledge. Before the Liverpool game, we were playing well. If there was a disconnect, how did we come back from 3-0 against West Ham the previous game? We also did that with Pepe assisting a goal and Lacazette playing well. So the "little mafia" were on board 2 weeks ago, but 2 weeks later they aren't?

Just in terms of the Aubameyang situation, I worry that he is not happy with how Arteta threw him under the bus. He is a happy person so when he is not happy we can clearly see it. Him and Arteta need to sort their problems out. As no one will buy Aubameyang. He has 2 years left on his deal as well.

You should not worry about Partey. Trust me. There are bigger problems in this team. Even when Partey hasn't been playing well he has done small things, that a world class player does.

Hope Neville is proven wrong about the "disconnect" in the team.

Arteta must let Martinelli start for next Thursday's game.

As for Partey, time will tell but his form has been very worrying.

Partey has not lived up to the expectations so far. He was expected to have an Essien, Kante, Fabinho, Ndidi type impact on Arsenal’s midfield but that has not happened so far.

Apart from 2-3 games, he has been ordinary. He is slow, lethargic and has a limited range of passing. He also seems to be injury prone.

It is too early to be worried in the long-term but it won’t be surprising if this ends up pear-shaped in the end.

Buying players from Atletico is always risky. Their players often appear better than they are due to Simeone’s system and end up getting exposed in other teams.

Filipe Luis looked like one of the best LBs in Europe before he flopped at Chelsea. Godin also couldn’t perform in Conte’s system at Inter.

I hope Martnelli does get more game time but I understand why Arteta has been cautious with him due to injuries.

It's quite simple.

With the players we have we should be in the top 6 at the very least.

Shows Arteta isn't up to this standard. Emery did better in his stint and not many Arsenal fans felt sorry when he was sacked. Arsenal have gone backwards.

No, you shouldn't. Man City, Man United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool & Leicester all have a better team than Arsenal. I would say even Everton have a better team. You guys should be finishing around 8-9, which I think you will. There is only so much Arteta can do with this bunch of players.

The only criticism I have of Arteta is that his style of play is very negative and defensive. I thought that someone who worked under Pep Guordiola for so long would play attacking football, but he is just so bloody negative.

Gabriel Martinelli gets his first start since the 30th of January!

Saka seemingly at left-back, with Ceballos, Xhaka and Partey on the pitch.

That could mean either a back 3 with Xhaka dropping in at LCB, as he does often throughout a game, or the usual 4-2-3-1 with Ceballos moving up to the #10 role (which will be painful to watch).

topspin, did you see that turn and ball from Thomas Partey?

A world class midfielder.

Brilliant assist for Lacazette’s second goal. A much better display from him today but lets not forget this is the bottom side of the PL who have lost 25 of their 31 games.

I want to see a strong response from him on Thursday so we can make it to the semis of the Europa League.

Do you think Aubameyang should start for the second leg?

It’s not about the opponent there, it was about Parteys quality. Plus we have seen him dominate Liverpool’s midfield when he was at Atletico.

I would not start Aubameyang. Lacazette played well so keep him upfront, play Martnelli on the left. Don’t think Auba and Laca play well together, so I would rotate them at CF dependent on form and opposition.

I think a better opposition may have anticipated that ball from Partey a lot better. I won't be convinced until he can deliver against better teams. Performances against Sheffield Utd don't count for much because I can't imagine what their mental state must be like having lost 80% of their PL games this season.

First, I want to see him make amends on Thursday. Lets see what he can do on a cold night in Prague when the stakes are high.

I agree Auba and Laca have never been in a combination that has worked well for us. Laca is slow and lacks pace but he's in better form. Auba just seems disinterested going by his body language.

Fair enough. But I would not worry about him. As he has performed against top teams in the past and he is still coming back from injury and he did not have a pre season. Our midfield doesn't look the same when he isn't there.

Something is clearly wrong with Aubameyang, Slavia do play a high line so I'm sure he will be needed at some point. But I think Lacazette is in form so should start. And if Martnelli is starting you have that threat in behind against the high line.

That surely can't be your only criticism of Arteta?

The most glaring mistakes have been in his selections.
He finally went with youth, even though that was the way forward, when he had absolutely no other options left.

It's no coincidence that the Europa League team that was averaging three goals per match contained 8 youngsters in it, three of whom have now been loaned out.

We need to spend big on a striker and possibly another centre back but I am convinced that we have the players to finish top 6 afterall we have done better this season against other top 6 teams then we have in a decade and yet find ourselves mid table.

I’m not an Arsenal fan, so I am giving my opinion as a neutral. I’m assuming you are an Arsenal fan, so you know more than I do regarding Arteta.

I agree what you are saying about youngsters though. I can’t for the life of me understand why Willian was signed, let alone played every single game. Even giving Aubameyang such a massive contract extension at his age was a big mistake.

Yeah I'm a big fan having been brought up in north london and been taken to Highbury as a child...

Signing Willian and letting go Martinez were two huge mistakes.
I think the Willian purchase was down to the Brazil/Edu link.

Auby's form inexplicably dropped off a cliff the very next day after signing the new contract.
However I can see why they did. Top goal scorer and banking on one more season of him to get us into the CL which of course never happened. Also shows other players that we're serious and attracts top quality... I wouldn't blame them too much for this because everyone from Mersin, Write to your average Arsenal fan were shouting out for his contract to be extended and as it was going to be his last big pay day I don't really have any gripes about it.

Promising signs from Arsenal. They will challenge for the title next season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is waiting on the fitness of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Martin Odegaard before their Europa League quarter-final second leg at Slavia Prague.

Striker Aubameyang has been struggling with illness, while on-loan midfielder Odegaard has an ankle problem.

However, the Gunners have been boosted by the availability of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

The Gunners travel to Prague with the tie at 1-1 after Tomas Holes' late equaliser at the Emirates last week.

Massive game tonight. The UEL is the only thing keeping our season alive.

Real Madrid are not prepared to sell 22-year-old Norway midfielder Martin Odegaard, who is on loan at Arsenal until the end of the season. (Marca)

If Arsenal get past Emery's Villarreal in the UEL semis, we will reach our 5th cup final in the last 5 years, and 7th in the last 8 years.

IMMY69 , don’t call me an Indian as well. Just because I have different views to you doesn’t make me an Indian. Have some respect for other people. But the fact you have a dog as your profile pic sums up your mentality and lack of respect.

But here goes anyway.

That dog in my profile pic is my 10 year old GSD.
What is wrong with having my dog as the profile pic?
I really don't know what you're getting at when you say "you have a dog" as your profile pic.

Regarding the Indian bit, I said your Indian buddy... what does that mean? Have I called you Indian?

Arsenal fans set off flares and hung banners outside the stadium prior to their clash with Everton and have called for owner Stan Kroenke to depart the club following his involvement in the Super League scandal.

Ancolotti was available but we signed Arteta...

Well here you go.

Another terrible performance.

Watching Arsenal is like watching Pakistan at the moment, lacking ideas and planning.

Arsenal have lost 7 home league games for the first time since the inaugural Premier League season of 1992-93.

Arsenal have failed to score in 8 of 17 league games at Emirates Stadium this season. Only West Brom (9) & Fulham (10) have failed to score in more home PL games in 2020-21

«Boring boring Arsenal» they play dull football and also lack the finishing touch. They seem to have a new captain every game. Lack a real leader like Tony Adams.

If Leeds win their next game we go back down to 10th.

Another insipid display with plenty of possession but no cutting edge up front... Then the customary mistake that costs us.

If crowds were allowed in this season I'm pretty sure Arteta would have been gone by now.

Spotify founder Daniel Ek declares interest in buying club as fans protest for Stan Kroenke to sell up

Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek - co-founder and chief executive of music streaming service Spotify - has declared his interest in buying Arsenal.

On a night of intensive fan protests outside the Emirates Stadium calling for owner Stan Kroenke to sell up, Ek said he would be keen if Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) decided to heed their calls.

Ek said on Twitter: "As a kid growing up, I've cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring."

Ek is worth £3.38bn (€4.7bn) according to Forbes, following the worldwide success of Spotify. In 2017 he was named the most influential person in the music business by American magazine Billboard.

He appeared to be reaching out to supporters as thousands massed outside the Emirates as Arsenal took on Everton on Friday night in protest at Kroenke's involvement in the aborted attempt to set up a breakaway European Super League.

Many supporters have been unhappy with his management of the club for some time, having failed to qualify for the Champions League for the last three seasons running and struggled in midtable again this term under Mikel Arteta.

Kroenke's son Josh spoke to a fans forum this week in which they apologised for their involvement, but they have since declared they have "no intention" of selling the club despite the controversy.

Manager Arteta said on Thursday Kroenke, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and other figures at the London club involved in the Super League plan had apologised to the players and himself.

And ahead of kick-off on Friday, he said the team would continue to listen to the noise created by supporters outside the Emirates during the game.

"Well we hear it, we know what they [the fans] think but our responsibility should be on trying the best possible way to play the match, and that's it," he said.

"Obviously it doesn't help when you have your fans standing out there on a matchday and saying loud and clear to us they're not happy with something.

"But our job again is to win the football match and when that happens everything is better."

Not sure if this protest will force Kronke to sell. He has a thick skin and is making money from Arsenal which benefits his other business. The thing that annoys me about KSE is how they continually appoint the wrong football people to run the club and how slow they are react to get rid of them. I really want to know what process they go through for that.

Even though I don’t think protesting will make a difference, fans should continue as KSE need to know we are upset and it could force them to change. But let’s see what happens.

Just something from yesterday’s game, I think Leno is a good goalkeeper but I’m not sure he’s a goalkeeper to take us to the next level. He doesn’t dominate the box and is not convincing in terms of distribution. Leno has 2 years left on his contract, I would not be against selling him and replacing him with another goalkeeper in the summer.

Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira to join Daniel Ek in bid to buy club

Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek is set to launch a takeover bid for Arsenal with the help of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira.

Ek, co-founder and chief executive of music streaming service Spotify, has enlisted three of Arsenal's legendary 'Invincibles' to help him purchase the club from current owner Stan Kroenke.

Ek first expressed an interest in buying Arsenal last week, after fans protested outside the Emirates Stadium against Kroenke's ownership and his involvement in the failed breakaway European Super League.

Ek has intimated he would be open to having fan representation on the Arsenal board if he succeeds in buying the club.

"As a kid growing up, I've cheered for arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring," Ek tweeted on Friday.

Ek is understood to be totally serious about the deal and has the funds to make it happen. According to Forbes, he is worth £3.38bn (€4.7bn), and was named the most influential person in the music business by American magazine Billboard in 2017.

Close friends have described Ek as an Arsenal obsessive who watches every game. He has even been known to watch live Arsenal games during Spotify board meetings. He has been to many games at the Emirates Stadium and at Highbury.

A key figure in any proposed takeover will be Arsenal non-executive director Tim Lewis who is close to owner Stan Kroenke.

At this stage, it is not known how much the 38-year-old is willing to bid for Arsenal.

However, Arsenal director Josh Kroenke has told fans that his family has "no intention" of selling the club.

Speaking last week at a fans' forum following the collapse of the European Super League venture, Kroenke said the club was not for sale but that they would work harder to engage with fans more effectively in the future.

Arsenal's owners, the Kroenke family, insist they "are not selling any stake" in the Premier League club, amid talk of a takeover from Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek.

"In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club," read a statement released by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE).

"We remain 100 per cent committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the club. We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.

Getting interesting this now - Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek says he has 'secured the funds' to takeover Arsenal and will now present a 'very compelling offer' to owners Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke to buy the club.

Inkee Qismet hee kharab hai!

Just when you thought they are on a high they slump - like they are at the moment in UEL

The team was set up so poorly

Xhaka on the left and no striker...

Amateurish management

emery showed arteta whos the boss, what a terrible mistake to replace him for arteta.

Mamoon will ofcourse say villareal had better players :)))
