Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Arsenal fans just never learn. They are getting carried away thinking that they will win the league, when we all know they will eventually crumble. That is what they do. They will crumble just like how they crumbled when they were going for top 4 last season, they will crumble just like when they let Leicester win the league in 15/16 season. When Arsenal eventually crumble, the meltdown from Arsenal fans will be something else and Arsenal Fan TV will be fun to watch again.

No Arsenal fans are talking about winning the league. Everyone knows it would take a miracle but they are delighted to see the team make progress and show improvement in all areas.

A lot of this insecurity is coming from rival fans who cannot believe that Arsenal are top of the league after match week 13 and have been waiting for Arsenal to crumble so that they can thump their chests, but Arsenal keep winning and their chest thumping keeps getting delayed.

Arsenal is guaranteed to finish in top 3 and it is real progress. I am happy to see them lose the match yesterday because it is a pointless competition in the context of this season. I would be happy to lose in Europa too because Arsenal don’t need Europa to qualify for UCL next season.

Finishing top 2-3 in the league and sustaining a title challenge for a couple of more months would be a power statement.

Arsenal will not crumble. This team is different. If you don’t see the difference between this and the previous Arsenal teams then you clearly haven’t been watching them play.

Yesterdays defeat just showed that you go past Arsenals starting 1st X1 and squad is very poor to say the least. Vieira, marquinhous, lakonga in particular.

Not too unhappy about dropping out of the Carabao Cup.
It's just another distraction and we don't have the squad depth to remain competitive on 4 fronts.

Need at least two good signings in January to absolutely guarantee top 4.

i dont think anyone is upset. But the fringe players once again did themselves no favours being poor.

even Arteta says they need players in january we need 2 or 3 signings or if we get injuries we are in trouble.

Exactly that. I don't know about you but I've yet to come across an ex-Arsenal player or a supporter, whether it be in person or a verified account on social media who thinks Arsenal will win the league.

It's a simple case of having nothing bad to say about the team so lets fire shots at the fans instead. Bunch of haters is what they are.

I live in London, surrounded by Arsenal fans. Many of them are getting carried away by arrogantly claiming that Arsenal will win the league. They are many on social media who have said the same thing. The funny thing is that they are yet to play against Man City who are by far the best team in England.

Time will tell if they will crumble or not, but the safe bet is that they will.

Arsenal fans shouldn't be arrogantly dismissing Europa League, seeing that Arsenal have no European history. Arsenal haven't even won the Europa League in their history, let alone the Champions League, yet their fans are constantly acting like they are too good for the Europa League. Try to win one before arrogantly dismissing it as a competition.

Well done Ivan Toney. Arsenal top going into WC break. 3 points vs wolves a must now. No complacency tonight.

Arsenal should put an offer in for Toney in january. offer them cash + eddie. Hr would be just what Arsenal need in 2nd half of season.

Stop judging Arsenal fans on mamoon, its like judging all indian cricket fans on mamoon.

most Arsenal fans are well grounded. if we end up in a title race then good. will we win it? i dont think so. I want club to have a go.

Arsenal should be aiming to try and win FA cup and EL. Top 4 aint a trophy.

xhaka off with illness and Vieira on after 15 mins, not a good sign.

If you can’t win this one bro even with a couple of setbacks then might as well write off the title charge lol, Wolves are a pub team.

its been a placid 1st half. Jesus missing a sitter. Wolves have no striker and we are making hard work off this so far.

0-0 HT.

Well said. Too many fans think that top 4 is a trophy when it isn't. I rather win a trophy than finish in the top 4.

A trophy is better for the short term but in the long term top 4 means your team will improve a lot in the next couple of years. Better players will arrive if you're in the CL and more money for the club for transfers.

Arsenal have NOT secured Top 4 yet.

Winning the league is a pipe dream only Arsenal fans have.

Need to kill game off while on top. podence always does well vs Arsenal so need to be careful.

I get that, but as a fan, I rather see my team win a trophy than secure top 4.Winning a trophy is more memorable for a fan than top 4.

Gabriel who has been poor in large parts of season has been excellent tonight.

Another good win for Arsenal.

2-0 at Wolves.

Not at their best tonight, but still too good for their opponent.

5 points clear at the top of the table!

That will do nicely. hopefully everyone is fit and rested before west ham on boxing day.

Tough game at the Molyneux. We did very well defensively and the perserverence to break the deadlock has to be commended.

No one would've thought we'd be top at Christmas with 5 points in hand.

This is a much needed break for Jesus, who's been terrific as a player overall but is lacking confidence in front of goal. He'll be back to scoring form after the World Cup.

Great game for Odegaard

Much needed break for Jesus to regroup and come back with a goal scoring threat. He’s been a serious bottler in front of goal for quite some time now

He could easily have scored 4-5 goals in the last few games had he been clinical enough

Edu named Arsenal sporting director

Arsenal have appointed Edu as the club's first sporting director.

The Brazilian, part of the Gunners 'Invincibles' side of 2004, was the club's technical director but this expanded role sees him take charge of al the club's academy activities alongside the men’s and women’s sides.

Great news for Arsenal fans :)

England got their World Cup campaign under way with a 6-2 victory over Iran as youngsters Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham starred.

Saka, who scored two goals, was voted as BBC Sport readers' player of the match with 8.23, just pipping Bellingham on 8.21.

England's lowest-rated player was defender Eric Dier, who replaced Harry Maguire after he went off with concussion, with 5.87.

Mehdi Taremi, who scored both of Iran's goals, was the highest-rated of England's opponents with 5.6.

Mykhaylo Mudryk has drawn the attention of clubs across Europe and Newcastle are also chasing the 21-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk wing wonder. But insiders say the Gunners have the framework of a deal in place after Shakhtar significantly lowered their original demands, which were said to be close to £90million.

It is now understood they are willing to accept around £40m plus potential add-ons. Another factor in Arsenal’s favour is Mudryk’s desire to link up with Ukraine teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko – the left-back moved to the Emirates from Manchester City for £32m in July.

Mudryk had admitted he felt his dream of signing for one of Europe’s elite clubs was "wounded" by Shakhtar’s initial asking price. "When I found out about my price, I wasn't just surprised – I was shocked," Mudryk told Sport Arena.

"I have a long-term contract with Shakhtar, I give all my strength and energy so that Shakhtar achieves maximum results, but every football player has a dream to play in a top club and in a top championship - I am no exception.

"But I am 100 per cent sure that they are unlikely to buy a player from the championship of Ukraine for 100million. I will not hide that I was very upset. The amount of 100 million puts a barrier for my transition to the top championship, which I so dreamed of. I can't say that my dream was killed, but wounded - that's for sure."

Mudryk came through the academy ranks at Shakhtar before making his senior debut during the 2018/19 campaign. This season, he has scored 10 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions and was especially impressive in the Champions League group stage, netting three times and grabbing two assists.

Arsenal have made adding a winger to their ranks a priority, with Mikel Arteta short of back-up options for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The Gunners have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season and top the Premier League after winning 12 of their 14 games.

While some fans may be wary about upsetting the apple cart with midseason recruitment, others are desperate to see Emirates Stadium chiefs splash the cash in the January transfer window to strengthen Arsenal's title charge. As well as signing Zinchenko last summer, Arsenal bought Gabriel Jesus from City and Fabio Vieira from Porto, and their overall spend was north of £100million.

It remains to be seen how much is left in the transfer war chest for further recruitment in the January window.

Jesus now injured and likely to miss games at end of dec and possibly january as well. Edu need to get another striker in january as depending on Eddie aint going to work.

Jesus out for 3 months, Kronkes need to splash big now and bring in another striker, cant play most of 2nd half of season with mediocre player like Eddie as only striker.

Devastating news

It's not the goals that he brings but his energy, drive and hold up play that was making us tick snd taking our team to a different level.
We simply have to recruit January but whose available?

We need a central midfielder, Winger in January, we now need to add a striker as well. If Arsenal want to repeat same mistakes as last january thats on the Manager / Edu and kronkes.

I think we should go for a tall centre forward and also look at a winger as well. Depends if Ivan Toney gets a ban if not he should be looked at, may eve have to go for broke and offer loads cash to Fulham for mitrovic.

Other option is Vlahovic, as Juve are broke have no money and no bargaining power now, so Arsenal should raid them.

Edu should be looking at players now, drawing up plans and start negitiations, we can afford a poor january like we did last year.

We need to be realistic. Vlahovic is a great striker but Jesus is not retiring. Once he is back, neither of them will want to sit on the bench & they cannot play together.

Jesus didn’t leave City’s bench for Arsenal and Vlahovic will not leave Juventus to sit on Arsenal’s bench when he can easily start at most UCL teams.

Arsenal will most likely sign Mudryk & start with Eddie or have Martinelli at number 9 as well with Mudryk on the left. ESR will also be back soon & he can play on the left.

It will be sufficient to cover for Jesus when he is back in 3-4 months. You just can’t buy players without considering what will happen when everyone is fit.

Arsenal can’t pay City like wages to keep top players happy on the bench.

What we need to do as Arsenal fans is attend the games and have a new chant for him. I suggest "Eddie is ready" to help motivate him during the matches.

If this doesn't work maybe then we can buy in Jan?

Your talking about reality? :)) You keep on harping on about how this is one best squads Arsenal has had in Ages.

The reality is that we have a good starting X1 and we have 3 bench players who if they come into the side the quality doesnt drop.

Starting X1 - Ramsdale, white, saliba, zinny, partey, xhaka, oddegaard, saka, jesus, Martinelli

ESR, Tomi and Tierney are like for like quality replacement yet they cant stay fit

Elneny, lakonga, eddie, marquinhos, cedric, vieira, holding, nelson etc.. are downgrades. These guys looked poor most of the europa league and in league cup. Next season we are possibly going to be in CL, which means we will need better players to rotate to compete in CL and PL. Having just one striker in jesus aint going to be enough.

Arsenal to go forward need competition for places and atleast 2 top quality strikers. Are squas has no where near the depth for where is wanting to go. Yeah we aint going to be like man city but reality is to compete we are going to need more firepower. Liverpool had 4 or 5 good strikers and thats why they at least challenged City.

If we buy another top striker it gives us competition for places but also means we would be in a lot better position to play CL and challenge in PL next season. or are Arsenal just going to make up the numbers in CL next season.

Same goes for mudryk signing if that means saka is bench sometimes then good, means quality of team is still same but also pushes saka to up his game even more.

Just remember last time we won the league 2004 we had henry, bergy, wiltord, reyes, kanu etc..

this aint 1998 either where you just have a good 11 and you get by and you worry about a player being upset if they are on the bench.

If you think Arsenal are going to challenge with eddie as main striker when we have some seriously tough games in jan / feb etc.. then your as naive as Edu / Arteta were last january.

I’m afraid you are the one who is out of touch with reality. You wanted Arteta sacked last season & here we are, Arsenal are 5 points clear at the top of the table.

You thought it was because of easy fixtures & they would get found out against Liverpool, Spurs & Chelsea but they won all those matches.

Arteta has proved you wrong at each & every step.

This is the best Arsenal side of the Emirates era. Only 07-08 runs them close.

There is a difference between having squad depth & having two discontent, quality strikers who both want to start but cannot because of the system.

If you sign Vlahovic you are creating more issues than you are solving. Players like Murdyk will be happy with a rotational role at this stage of his career.

An established player like Vlahovic who has been a starter for a club much bigger than Arsenal will not be.

Same goes for Jesus who has spent years on the bench & has finally found a prominent role. Eddie is perfectly fine as a backup striker. He can do a job until Jesus returns.

Arsenal need a winger to replace Pepe & provide cover to Saka & Martinelli along with ESR & Nelson. They also need a CM to provide cover & competition to Xhaka & Partey.

There is no need of signing an established, big name striker in January for the aforementioned reasons but of course if there is a hidden gem somewhere & you are in a position to sign him you should not squander it.

Once again a load of hype on a squad thats proved nothing yet, but according to you its best of Emirates era? Based on 14 games. Nothing has been proven yet, we havent finished top 4, we arent even in CL and your proclaiming it the best! Have a day off with your nonsense for once.

When the team is in a title race, or qualifies for top 4 regularly in CL or in a title race then speak.

The squad has already shown outside the starting X1 its poor during europa league and league cup.

Eddie wouldnt even get on the bench at liverpool, spurs or man city so stop being so deluded that hes even remotely good enough as 1st back up.

If this so called greatest ever emirates team is that good they should be winnning trophies as well as being in title races before you start prematurely getting over excited.

They are literally leading the title race. :91:

You keep making excuses & justifications because you cannot accept the fact that Arteta proved you wrong & exposed your shortsightedness.

Thankfully the board didn’t listen to impatient fans like you who can’t see beyond the last result. It has been obvious from the beginning that Arteta has a vision & he will deliver the goods.

First it was 4-5 games, now it is 14 games. Soon it will be 25 games & then you will see it is just one good season, it doesn’t mean anything, even Leicester won the league in 2016, let’s see if Arsenal can sustain it etc. :91:

Arteta is a great manager, this is a great Arsenal team. Swallow your pride & enjoy the ride. No one will make fun of you if you accept that you got it badly wrong - people don’t make fun of those who accept their mistakes.

Rather, they make fun of those who keep making excuses & keep digging holes for themselves because their ego doesn’t allow them to accept their mistakes.

Arsenal are 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League having played a match less than both Newcastle and Tottenham, if anything they are threatening to run away with the title and only Manchester City can spoil the party.

Great managers win league titles and champions leagues, just shows what low garbage standards you have using the word "great". Your little goading troll comments dont work with me so feel free to carry talking non-senses as usual.

So according to you a manager who hasnt even made top 4, won a league title or even got his team into CL is a "Great manager"

Great Managers are ones like Fergerson, Pep, Shankly, Anchelotti managers who have actually achieved something.

Carry on with your delusion rants shows you have zero football knowledge.

City are favourites and will continue to be, the two players Arsenal could ill afford to lose for any length of time are Jesus and Partey, as the drop off in replacements is replacing a Champions league player with a championship standard players Eddie / Lakonga.

Im gutted Jesus is injured as we genuinely had a chance of pushing City this season. Now sqaud wise we are in similar situation to last season in january where we will be depending on Saka, Martinelli and ESR (if he can stay fit to carry team in 2nd half of season) the whole reason 2nd half season fell apar last season was because when starting 11 didnt fire we had no bench strength in attack areas to change that. So unless Club brings in players in attack areas to help same thing will happen again and clubs results will fall away. Depending on a mediocre player like Eddie until Jesus comes back is naive and stupid, so we will see if the club as a whole has learn from last januarys mistakes.

Yes, the guy who wanted Arteta sacked last season is the epitome of football knowledge.

Surely they can get Gonçalo Ramos to replace Jesus?

What a great finisher he is

Hes having his 1st good season at Benfica this year as hes taken over as main striker from Darwin Nunez, i think his price may have just gone up with this hat trick.

Atleast partey, xhaka, Tomiyassu can return to Arsenal now and prepare for west ham on boxing day. The sooner Arsenal players return and uninjured the better.

Supposedly Man utd had a deal in place in summer for 25 M but decided against it, i can see Benfica wanting probably double that amount now.

Barcelona are tracking Arsenal and Brazil winger Gabriel Martinelli, 21, with a view to making a move for him in the January transfer window. (Sport)

Arsenal must sign Goncalo Ramos in January.

I think a lot of clubs will, his price will have gone up and also benfica are still in CL so i doubt they will be willing to sell in january. They were willing to sell him in the summer just gone, i think will have changed now

Apparently we were linked with him in March earlier this year. If our scouts rated him, we should've signed him in addition to Jesus.

Don't worry bro, Arsenal will find a superior number 9 to Nketiah whether it be on loan or permanent in January.

You know who we sign in January. I think he'd be tempted to join us as well.

Taremi. These are his stats this season:

Portuguese league: 6 goals in 13 matches
Champions league: 5 goals in 5 matches

World Cup: 2 goals in 3 matches (with little support/service)

Apparently his release clause (rumoured) is £52m

Taremi. These are his stats this season:

Portuguese league: 6 goals in 13 matches
Champions league: 5 goals in 5 matches

World Cup: 2 goals in 3 matches (with little support/service)

Apparently his release clause (rumoured) is £52m

Has 18 months left in his contract.

The downsides are:

Not proven in the PL and he's 30.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Barcelona forward Ferran Torres after failing in a last-gap swoop for the former Manchester City star.

Torres only left the Premier League last January to join Barcelona but reports in Spain suggest Barca boss Xavi has 'lost faith' in the forward.

Fichajes claims that the Gunners are considering a fresh approach for Torres, reuniting Arteta with the striker after their days together at Manchester City.

Arsenal are reportedly set to revive their interest in FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi ahead of the January transfer window as a replacement for Gabriel Jesus.

With the club likely to have to do battle with Manchester United for Cody Gakpo's signature, the Gunners have been re-linked with Taremi ahead of the opening of next month's transfer window. Portuguese outlet O Jogo have claimed that the club have renewed their interest in the striker after he put in a couple of good performances in the World Cup for Iran.

The 30-year-old scored twice and assisted another in three games in Qatar but couldn't help guide his nation to the knockout stages. Taremi returns to Porto ahead of the return of Liga NOS and Champions League football but faces doubt over his future.

The striker enters the final 18 months of his deal at the Estadio do Dragao and it's reported that Porto may sell the striker should he refuse to commit his future at the club. Valued at €20million (£17million) by transfermarkt, the Iranian has enjoyed a good season himself with 13 goals in 20 games - including five in five Champions League games.

Benfica Ramos stance

With no more games in Qatar for clubs interested in Goncalo Ramos to perform a scouting mission, attention now seems to be on his club Benfica to declare how much they would demand if a club wanted to enter negotiations for Ramos, or even if they would be willing to sell him in January.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United seem to have got their answer, with Benfica chief Rui Costa insisting that Ramos, along with the rest of Benfica's star players, will not be sold for anything below the value of their release clause.

"We have the sole objective of having a winning season, no player will leave – unless it is due to the clause – which at this moment is fundamental for the squad," said Costa.

"What I can promise our supporters is what I did at the beginning of the year. This is a sporting project, not a financial one. Fortunately, we are not experiencing financial problems and we have no need to sell players."

Costa ruling out a January departure, unless clubs paid Ramos' release clause which according to Correio da Manha stands at €120million (£103million), likely means teams may have to wait until the summer.

João Félix, please.

He can play across the front three & also drop into a deeper role. He is young, extremely gifted & desperately wants to escape Simeone.

He is ready to explode in the right environment & Arteta can give him that platform. He is like a mini Kaká.

I heard he would cost 130m Euros. He's good but not that good.

We need to be realistic and accept we're not spoilt for choice.

Arsenal will have to settle for someone like Taremi. Anyone better than him will costs at least around £100m+

Arteta would unleash Felix. Him and Mudryk in one window... a nice thought. Unfortunately too good to be true.

Decent record but he's not the most mobile of strikers, there are better options out there I think.

Atletico is not in a position of power. His contract runs out in 2024. They are desperate to sell & he is desperate to leave. They will bring the price down.

I think Edu & Arteta have a very strong chance of getting it done if they are really interested, but I think they view him as an alternative if the Mudryk deal fails to materialize.

Portugal forward Joao Felix, 23, is being offered to Premier League clubs as he seeks to leave Atletico Madrid in January, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa potential destinations. (Mail)

Manchester United and Arsenal seem the most likely options for Felix, with Atletico willing to listen to offers of more than 100m euros (£85.9m). (AS)

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will be fit to face West Ham on Boxing Day.

The Gunners are aiming to secure the Premier League title this season after going into the World Cup five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.

Saka and Martinelli both played key roles for their countries in Qatar, with England and Brazil, respectively.

Despite their valiant efforts, Arteta needs them more than ever, following injury to Reiss Nelson.

The 23-year-old picked up a knock at the weekend against Juventus in a friendly, and tests haven’t provided good news for the Gunners boss.

Strength in depth has been a concern among Arsenal fans, but Arteta has suggested Martinelli and Saka go straight back into the line-up.

“I don’t have any concerns,” the Spaniard told reporters.

“They have assessed really well and they will be training for us in the next few days so hopefully they will be ready. They came back [to the club] straight away into the rhythm, shape and mood of the team.

Arsenal and Brazil forward Gabriel Martinelli, 21, is set to sign a new deal with the club worth £200,000-a-week. (Mail)

The PL admit that the VAR decision to rule out Martinelli's early goal at Old Trafford was incorrect.

How different that game could have turned out had we not been forced to chase it for the vast part of the match, instead we would have been ahead from the start. Our only loss of the season.

Arteta on Gabriel Martinelli new deal: “No news on Gabriel’s new deal now, we are extremely happy with him - you can keep asking in the next weeks”

“Gabriel Jesus? It’s very difficult to put a timeframe, knowing him I prefer not to give a return date away”.

Whatever good that Edu and Arteta have done this season does not absolve them from absolute stupidity of not using the last Jan transfer window. Team spectacularly imploded and ironically spurs, who strengthened using that window pipped Arsenal to fourth place. I am kind of having the same feeling this transfer window as well. A team with Eddie up top does not deserve to be on top.

Mikel Arteta: Arsenal will be 'active' in January transfer window after Gabriel Jesus injury

Arsenal will be "active" during the January transfer window following an injury to striker Gabriel Jesus, says Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

Jesus scored five goals and registered six assists in the Premier League to help Arsenal lead the top flight going into the break for the 2022 World Cup.

But the 25-year-old got injured playing for Brazil at the tournament and has since had knee surgery.

"It's going to take some time for sure," Arteta said of Jesus.

"He's gone through surgery and that tells you the extent of the injury, so we will be in the market, always active and we will assess the biggest opportunities we have.

"We are going to be active and active means we are looking to strengthen the team.

"This squad still doesn't have the luxury of not maximising every single window. We have to do that because it's really important, but then we have to get the right profile.

"It has to be the right player to take us to the next level."

Arsenal have a five-point lead from second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League and return to action in the top flight with a game against West Ham on 26 December.

Jesus, who joined the Gunners from City in the summer, had his participation at the World Cup ended after he picked up an injury during Brazil's 1-0 defeat by Cameroon in their final group game.

"It's obviously a huge blow with Gabriel Jesus and his injury," added Arteta.

"We'll miss him for a period of time. The season has challenges, this is a challenge we have to overcome, but if you're going to be at the top there's going to be those challenges.

"With Gabi it's difficult to put a timeframe because it was a significant injury. Knowing him, I prefer not to give any dates."

West ham at home for re-start. I really hope we pick up our early season form straight away. With Jesus now out i hope that doesnt effect rest of the team. We defo need a new striker and winger in january.

Mudryk and Thuram would be ideal signings.

I dont think any team has LOST the league title after being so many points clear at Xmas??

Will Arsenal blow the title or walk it?

Everyone is saying that Arsenal are in a title race, except for some Arsenal fans. Why? Are these Arsenal fans scared of failure?

Arsenal failed to win the league 5 times before after being on top at Christmas. This time it is fewer games as well and hence not exactly a legitimate christmas table.

We were definitely more than 5 points clear back in 95/96 when we ended up blowing it.

Also, although we are at Xmas due to the World Cup we are behind in terms of games so the comparison to previous seasons isn't entirely fair.

They are 5 points ahead of Man City with about a third of the season gone, that's hardly a comprehensive lead so even if they end up 2nd not sure if is fair to say they blew it. Obviously context is important, if they are 5 points clear with 2 games to go and they finish 2nd then fair enough.

Finally, the injury to Jesus is massive, how long he is out for and what they do in January can determine whether they are well and truly in a title race.

Joao Felix on a 8M loan deal would be a no brainer for most PL, Add Mudryk to that as well and Arsenal would then have enough cover going forward to have a good 2nd half to the season.

Winning vs West ham and Brighton is a must, as we have 3 very difficult games in January and we need to have confidence and points in bag going into those games.
