What's new

Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

I'm buzzing after that wonder strike by Reiss Nelson.

Amazing finish. Whenever he's come on, he's always delivered for us this season. Arteta needs to give him some more minutes, now that's he back from injury. Amjid Javed

The refereeing once again appalling/biased. I just don't know what to call it now. There were so many penalty checks which all went in Bournemouth. We should've got at least 2 penalties.

To turn it around from 2-0 down will always make this game to remember. Hopefully this will be one where we'll look back and reminisce for many years to come if we go on to win the PL this season.

What a season this is, better than any since 03/04.

How many memorable wins! The double over Spurs, late against United, late against Villa, late against Bournemouth. This is truly special.

That was amazing finish, whites finish for 2nd goal was sublime to. Huge 3 points, but we need to cut the sloppiness out at the back, we should not have been 2-0 in 1st place. Nelson will get game time in europa league, as will ESR and Vieira.

The fighting till the end is a good sign but we need to not let complacency set it which was there on 1st half.

Superb!!!

Oh and Spurs lost...

Wonderful afternoon

I think Wrighty summed it up well

Yes that was brilliant!
Watching for MOTD 😂

Arsenal match winner Reiss Nelson, speaking to MOTD: “When the ball came out to me I was thinking 'please give me one chance'. I'm buzzing, really happy. I controlled it with my right foot and it came onto my left.

"We need moments like this if we want to go all the way. We're not looking at any other team at the minute. We are focusing on ourselves. We will keep going day-by-day, game-by-game. As an Arsenal fan, I'm just delighted with the result."

I don't ever wanna see Tomiyasu start for Arsenal again in the PL. Ben White made a big difference especially with that goal. Great finish that was as well.

I still don't rate Zinchenko. I find he slows the play down when he's on the ball. Can't defend and can't deliver crosses like Tierney.

He was absolutely outstanding when he came on, even before the goal. Everything was going through him, he created the equaliser almost as soon as he came on. And then to produce that in the final second of the game, I'm still shell shocked.

I thought it was crazy to put him on for ESR, but what an inspired substitution. So happy for him

If there's one man who can capture the emotions of every Arsenal fan, it's this guy. Love it! :)))

Danny Murphy (I think it is) looks p1ssed after that goal hahaha :)))

I just hope Arteta and co at Arsenal aren't keeping quiet about this. Some shocking VAR verdicts we've had in recent times.

I don't think any of the players that came in to start from Wednesday were pretty poor.

Tomiyasu was poor, Vieira was average and didn't make most of his start, Partey did get a goal but his foul for free kick and defending on 2nd goal was abysmal.

The subs changed the game, I was more shocked at White's composure at the volley for 2-2. Nelson was really direct when he came on and that changed game, to often we were trying to walk the ball in the net.

Let's hope Fulham (A) is not as hectic. We can't keep conceding as many goals as we have since restart after World cup.

Yeah ive said this for ages that zinchenko takes to long move the forward on left side and this is why are left side isn't as effective as the right. But Arteta is not going change the left back situation.

VAR ref must have thought he was watching basketball. Any other team would have got pens for this.

One person who should get huge credit today is Ramsdale, his save in 1st half at 1-0 (god knows where Zinchenko was as usual in regards to defending) and his save at 1-2 were huge, without those saves we would have lost today.

Yes, Vieira as well. Kept getting bodied. Physically looks too weak for the PL at present.

I know Partey scored but I prefer Jorginho playing over him. He's a much better passer of the ball and looks way more comfortable when he has possession. Partey at times looks awkward when he has the ball.

As for Zinchenko, yes Arteta won't drop him but just watch he'll get exposed ruthlessly just like how TAA did. I can see it happen in the UCL next season against a big team when he's up against a menacing right wing forward.

Ramsdale has made a number of massively crucial saves in the past few games that have relatively unnoticed. When no-one's speaking about the GK, you know he's doing an amazing job

He made a good triple save vs everton as well, which went unnoticed as we were 4-0 up. He's quietly going about doing a good job, he did have a bad patch at start of season, but all keepers can have that.

Partey is our best midfielder but it's clear he's not match fit and has been sluggish and poor since the Everton game at Goodison. We really need him to get back to full form fir Fulham game.

Interesting who starts with saka and Martinelli vs Fulham now that Trossard is injured.

If Trossard is absent for the game against Fulham. I would start Nelson and Saka as the forwards with Martinelli upfront.

ESR struggled today and is clearly not ready to be starting games for Arsenal. I don't know if that's because of fitness or lack of game time.

ESR will be lack of match fitness. I think both him and Nelson should start the Europa league game. Saka should be benched as well as Partey and Gabriel.

I think Tierney and kiwor need game time aa we'll for europa game, as does Eddie.

For the Europa League, I would like to see Arteta pick:

Turner, Tierney, Kiwior, Holding, Tomiyasu, Jorginho, Xhaka, Vieria, ESR, Nelson and Nketiah. This is the weakest team we can pick that can still compete in the Europa.

The only reason I would play Jorgino and Xhaka is because Elneny is injured and Lokonga is out on loan otherwise I would've preferred these two to start instead.

I agree with that team except Rob holding, he should be nowhere near any team anymore, we need one of our main CBs playing. Whilst sporting are not a top side, we can't afford some one like holding having his usual stinker of a game and us conceding goals. Either white or saliba need to play CB along side kiwor.

Some sort of leg injury as he pulled up and cudnt run, Eddie wasn't in squad either. So we can't afford more injuries
Will be a tightrope managing sparce squad. These opportunities are rare in the superpower game so Arsenal knew they needed to strengthen and didn't significantly

ESR and Nelson are back so they can play europa, the bigger concern is the options we have in PL games, we need Jesus back now if trossard is out for a while.

Liverpool away
Man City away
Newcastle away

They look like the toughest matches to come for Arsenal.

They look like the toughest matches to come for Arsenal.

Last season Arsenal lost all 5 away games at - United, city, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle. Reality Is we were battered in all 5 of those games. We have lost 2 out 2 of those games this season. So the 3 remaining big up north away games will decide the title. Arsenal need to increase this point lead by time we go to Anfield.

We haven't won at Anfield since 2012, Eithad since 2015.

City have won 11 out of 13 games at home this season.

Liverpools home PL record is good as well,, only losing 1 game.

So when a season can be decided on small margins that's where it will be won and lost.

If someone offered me a draw at Anfield and Eithad and a win at Newcastle I would take it.

We have lost 3 out of 26 games this season, so we if lose 3 in out last 12 we don't deserve title. April will be make or break.

We have bucked a lot of trends this season, no reason why we should not be confident, especially at Liverpool and Newcastle. Jesus should be back for those ones too, a massive boost.

Can't stop playing this goal video again and again!

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/2eh1m2" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

The magnitude of the result and the timing of clinching goal made the magnificient half volley goal from White, a sideshow

Tomiyasu was a disaster

Viera is a failed investment

Zinny and Ode need to speed up their play. Cant dare to think if it was either of them instead of Nelson when the chance came upon. Hopeful cross or a pass to the penalty box would have been the result.

Great win, but why are we nearly bottling home games??

Brentford, City and nearly Bournemouth!

Only 3 clean sheets at home this season in PL, defensively we have been very sloppy at home.

Just because you ask for pens doesn't mean they should be given

MOTD might have missed some of them but the ones they showed I didn't think were penalties

And you have to factor in the bar (whether we like it or not) it's set higher for VAR to intervene

So, I recon we need 5 more wins out of 12 to secure champions league

Liverpool have just mauled Man utd. Liverpool have dealt with most Big sides this season at Anfield.

Also liverpool have done well in the Big games in General This season as we, so we would be lucky if get a draw an Anfield.

Im hoping that Liverpool can actually take points of City at the Eithad.

Wow, league leaders celebrating a win against a team bottom of the league, like they've won the World Cup.

That match was probably up there with our 3-2 FA Cup final win against Hull in terms of comeback and magnitude of the game.

Delighted for the original starboy Nelson but boy does Ramsdale deserve credit; he kept us in the game.

Arteta is a practical man and I’m sure he’ll notice that Arsenal have been sloppy lately. Luck will not always be on our side, Arsenal need to be more sharp if we want to stay on top.

I don't think 22/23 Arsenal would capitulate like United did in that 2nd half. They have done that many times this season, 4-0 Brentford, 6-3 Man City. Those days for Arsenal are behind us for now.

But yes they are a formidable side at home. I would take a draw against them, as long as they also take points from City.

Yep I'm sure the coaching staff are not getting too carried away, when they sit down to analyse the game they will see we have had a few bad moments in the past few games.

With Jesus back soon, we can get back to playing the imperious football we were playing at the start of the season. Inevitably though, as the title gets closer the games will get scrappier. City themselves are only reigning champions after they came back from 2-0 down at home to Villa on the final day.

United 2nd half collapse vs Liverpool, reminded me of how Arsenal played at Anfield last season. Defensively we have been pretty poor since the world restart, we really need to improve on how many chances we are allowing oppositions teams to have in games at moment, because if we defend like we have been Liverpool will beat us 3 or 4 nil in April.

It doesn’t matter what happens at Anfield, Arsenal will win the league. In fact I wouldn’t mind seeing Liverpool win that match and beat United for the third place.

I hope United mentally capitulate after this mauling and lose momentum.

Arsenal
City
Liverpool
United

Arsenal winning the league and Liverpool leapfrogging United after trailing them all season. Gary Neville would cry like a baby and it will be beautiful.

People talk about luck, but this Arsenal side is built different. They are relentless, mentally strong and they have the capacity to quickly recover from bad results.

Of course they will drop points from here on but so will City. Eventually, this 5 point gap will more or less stay intact until the end of the season.

The best part is that the big players will no longer leave, Arteta will add more quality to the squad and build on this momentum to get even better next season.

I think Arsenal will make a serious impact in the UCL next season, they will be back with a bang.

What a beautiful time to be an Arsenal fan.

The Gunners are also leading the race to sign Napoli's Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, 24, despite interest from Manchester United. (Rai, via Mirror)

He would cost around £150m in today's market. I can't see Kroenke throwing that kind of money on one player.

True, I think more money will be spent on the midfield position to bring in alternatives to Partey and Xhaka. Age-wise, they are the 2 that need replacing the soonest. Scoring goals is not really high on our list of weaknesses.

Midfield indeed is 1st priority, I think the club may then look at a LB and a RW after that.

The more I see west ham this season the Less I think the club should look at signing RIce now. He's been pretty average and for price west ham will want I think Arsenal should look elsewhere, earlier on in season id have said yeah go and sign him.

Declan Rice was given a run around by Brighton. He was also atrocious against spurs and Arsenal. Not sure he is worth the hype.

Yeah im getting bad vibes about it as well, better off the club spending money else where i reckon.

Arsenal celebrations against Bournemouth to be investigated by FA

Arsenal's celebrations following their 97th minute winner over Bournemouth on Saturday are being investigated by the Football Association.

The Gunners' bench rushed on to the field to celebrate after Reiss Nelson's late winner made the score 3-2.

However, the incident was included in referee Chris Kavanagh's match report and will be reviewed further.

Arsenal's win helped them maintain a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Bournemouth had taken the lead after just nine seconds through Philip Billing before going 2-0 up in the 57th minute thanks to a Marcos Senesi header.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's side launched their comeback with goals from Thomas Partey and Ben White. Nelson then won the match with virtually the last kick of the game, with substitutes and members of coaching staff running on to the pitch to celebrate with the 23-year-old.

These are the sort of comments that just fuel others to come back at you.

Declan Rice is currently playing in a poor team lead by an average coach... he knows he's leaving at the end of this season and so a few poor games this season is justifiable.. I wouldn't read anything into his performances this season.

Instead he could be playing in a dynamic team and coached by a modern manager at a top 4 club (maybe even champions). I would 100pct have him in the Arsenal squad.

Dont really care if people come at me or not, i express my opinion just like anyone else, i dont say things to be popular and or act like certain flip flop fans.

Now back to then topic of Rice, West ham have some pretty good players and should not be where they are, there are a lot of players that under performing in that team as well as others, Yes playing around better players and better coach may well improve him, but if West ham bump the price up from say 70M towards the 80M or 100M mark and their is a bidding war, i think Arsenal should walk away. Whilst we do need a marquee signing, i think there are other players that could be looked at that price range as well in summer. MNS and Frankie De jong would probably command a similar fee in the summer and could do just as good a job.

but like you say lets see if this so called downing of Tools from Rice in performance is just because he wants to leave.

This is now literally one of the very few threads I follow and contribute to on PP. But last 24 hours have almost destroyed this too.

Let's just stick to thr here and now and get behind our team...but get dragged into a war or words with certain posters.

Regarding Rice and your comments, I concur fully and knowing how the board does it's business I would expect them to pull away if it goes beyond £80m (maybe even less then this). MNS would be a good alternative but I see De Jong going to Manu.

i think who ever Arsenal target as the Midfield signing in the summer (It looks like it may even been two Midfielders) the transfer Business need to be done early and quickly, dragging out the transfers like the Mudryk failure, will just mean that we dont get our primary targets again.

Liverpool will be looking to rebuild their midfield, United as well, I can See City looking to sign 2 Midfields (Gundogan and Bernado likely to leave) so every big club will be looking to stock up in midfield.

So De Jong, Rice, Bellingham, MNS, Zubamendi will pretty much be on all these clubs Priority lists. Caciedo has signed new deal at brighton so he doubt he will move now.

The next level of midfield options below that will be players like Ismael Bennacer, Ruben Neves, Youri Tielemans, Nicolo Barell Macaliister who i think will have suiter as well.

If Arsenal want to make a statement they need to for once get primary targets it, the Club should only be looking at players now who are 1st team quality.

The signing of back ups Tavares, Lakonga, Vieria type players is simply not working and the club ends up having to spend even more money addressing such poor signings.

Napoli's Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, 24, and West Ham's England midfielder Declan Rice, 24, are Arsenal's main transfer targets this summer. (Sun)

Osimhen says he is "working hard" to achieve his dream of one day playing in the Premier League. (Sky Sports)

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool remain interested in Moises Caicedo despite the 21-year-old Ecuador midfielder signing a new contract with Brighton last week. (Football Insider)

Arsenal are cruising it. At the moment I never have any doubt that they are going to win a game in the end, even when they are put under extreme pressure as they were (for example) by Bournemouth.

If they avoid defeat in their league match away at Manchester City, Arsenal will win the title.

We still have to go to Anfield yet and we have pretty much smashed in every game baring 2 draws there since 2012, so how do you see us doing in that game?

We also still need to go to newcastle away as well.

Arteta guarded over Jesus' involvement in Lisbon

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would not reveal if striker Gabriel Jesus had travelled for the first leg of his side's last-16 Europa League tie against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

Brazil forward Jesus, who has not played since December because of a knee injury, trained in London on Wednesday before the squad flew to Portugal.

When asked in Lisbon if the 25-year-old was also there, Arteta remained coy.

"We have brought a few players and you will see on Thursday who is available."

Jesus has returned to full team training since suffering the knee injury at the 2022 World Cup and having surgery on the problem.

The former Manchester City forward has scored five goals and registered six assists in the Premier League for the Gunners.

Arteta says Jesus, who joined league leaders Arsenal last summer, will not be rushed back.

"We will try to make a fair assessment between what he needs and when he is comfortable as well as giving the team a boost that it's going to need in the next few weeks for sure," said the Spaniard.

"Everything is going well, he needs time as well to get himself that confidence and that physical state necessary to compete with a free mind and once he's free to do that, we will throw him in."

1-0 up after 35 mins, good goal by Saliba

Hopefully a few more team goals tonight

1-1 at HT, poor equializer given away, we have been very poor defending set pieces this year. Turner has almost given 2 goals away with his poor distribution. Very sloppy, and needs to be cut out.

Arsenal have conceded four goals from corner situations since the completion of the World Cup, twice as many goals as they conceded this season from those scenarios prior to the World Cup.

2-1 Sporting shambolic defending again. Can't keep doing this every game

What a miss by paulihno should been 3-1, sitter and shambolic defending

Instead xhaka's shot is deflected in at other end its 2-2

Tough game . Arteta needs to rest some players esp away. Fulhum away in 3 days , 2pm start.

When you're this close to the league why risk anyone for the Europa League.

Totally agree - but think the thirst for a 'backup' title could be the reason

If Arsenal keep defending as poorly as they have since the world cup restart, they ain't winning the league or the EL, you can't keep gifting one or two goals a game and kept expecting to come back.

We put a strong side out tonight and defensively it was a shambles.

Its a good trophy to win.

The PL of course is the Gold medal. This will be the best chance Arsenal have to win it, next season will be very tough. If I was in charge , id give it all, rest players and concentrate on the big prize.

Fulham are a good side now, they could beat Arsenal.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his side must "improve massively" if they are to continue winning games after the Gunners were held by Sporting Lisbon in an entertaining Europa League last-16 first leg.

France defender William Saliba put the Premier League leaders ahead with a towering header before Sporting took advantage of poor defending to score either side of half-time through Goncalo Inacio and Paulinho.

An own goal by the hosts' Japanese midfielder Hidemasa Morita ensured Arsenal will start on level terms when the teams meet in the return leg at Emirates Stadium next Thursday (20:00 GMT).

However, Arteta was unimpressed his side had conceded two goals for the second successive game.

"It's true that it's something that we must improve massively if we want to keep winning games," said the Spaniard.

"When you concede two poor goals like we did away from home in Europe it's very difficult to get a positive result.

"We gave too many simple balls away. We need to defend our box much better."

Squad being stretched thin by injuries even after reinforcements.

Jesus, Nketiah, Trossard, Odegaard, Tierney, Elneny were all unavailable for Sporting game, while Smith Rowe still seems half fit.

Jesus' return is the galvanising boost the team needs, we just need to get by until then. Fulham and Palace (which I'll be going to) left before the international break.

Both games are a worry now with players missing. I think Arteta needs to play xhaka, jorginho and Partey vs Fulham, Vieria is just not up to task and i think in a tough away game vs Fulham we need full control in midfield.

I hope we get some players back fit for the Fulham game

Fulham are missing Paulinha so it will not be as physical a game. It will just be attack vs defence just like all our recent games, as they try to snatch a goal through a set piece with Mitrovic. We need the attacking and creative talents of Vieira compared to playing both Xhaka and Jorginho, otherwise we have no hope of breaking them down.

Dumb penalty to give away by Olise. City otherwise never looked like scoring.

There'll be a lot of pressure going into the Fulham game tomorrow.

Tough game for Arsenal today, away to Fulham, but the Gunners should have enough quality to win it.

Palace at home will be an easy win. Palace haven’t had a shot on target for the last 3 games. They are an extremely negative side.
