What's new

Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

They'll have to show their credentials today.

Instead of going to the well because it's just not sustainable, they have to try and win games dictating them.

That's what the very best ultimately do.

Arsenal at full strength, partey, oddegaard and Trossard start

Jesus on the bench.

3 points needed

One goal disallowed for Offside (Own goal)

We score few mins later through Gabriel

Good start here.

2-0 Brilliant spell of keep ball and what a cross from trossard, Goal Martinelli

Martinelli 12th Goal of season. Not bad for a player who hasnt "Developed enough" or "isnt a key starter" :)))

Should be 4-0 now, Xhaka and Trossard both missing sitters.

Still 2-0

3-0 Brilliant football again, Trossard with 3rd assist, oddegard goal

Brilliant 1st half (apart from 2 stupid moments from ramsdale where he nearly cost us a goal)

Martinelli 12th Goal of season. Not bad for a player who hasnt "Developed enough" or "isnt a key starter" :)))

I still maintain that he's the 4th best left wing forward in the world. Only Mbappe, Vinicius Jnr and Rashford are better than him in his position.

Arsenal are cruising here

They should be 8 points clear going into the International break, then City have Liverpool to play on the return

If City drop points in that game then Arsenal should really go on to win the league from that stage

Best player in the first half.

He should have had 4 Assists and a goal. That miss by xhaka after build up play was criminal, as was Trossards miss.

We need more goals in 2nd half to boost GD.

Looking at Citys Fixtures on paper there arent to many that i can see them dropping points in. Liverpool have been a shambles away from home, but im hoping that raise there game against city like they always do.

90 points will win league for City or Arsenal.

If we win today that means 66 points, so another 24 from the last 11 games could get us there.

Reality is Arsenal need to win all their games before they go to Anfield i think.

Certain posters will take Son over Martinelli, even this season. :)))

Good save by Ramsdale, then we nearly conceed from a set piece again from the resulting corner.

We need to defend better from set pieces.

Saka and zinny off - Tierney and Nelson on

Well earned rest for saka, was getting kicked every 5 seconds.

Another set pieces and poor defending again, good save by Ramsdale. A clean sheet is needed here.

I disagree, I think against Liverpool is always tricky because of like you say they raise their game

But also away to Southampton, Brighton and Brentford are all places I can see them dropping points

Similarly your 3 away games (Liverpool, City and Us) are the challenges but I think you'll have enough of a buffer that even 4 points from those (especially if City is one of them) will be enough

Martinelli and Trossard off - Vieira and Jesus on

So good to have Jesus back

Id take a point an Anfield and Eithad now, cant see us winning those games but draws would be good.

City have to go to everton yet and that was one of few games i could see them maybe dropping points

Forgot about Everton away, plus at that stage they'll still be fighting for their lives so won't be easy

I think the back to back wins against Villa and Bournemouth convinced me that you'll win it

Though I understand why you'd be reluctant to show the same level of confidence

Solid, professional, easy.

Hard work done in the first half and kept it tight in the second half.

Terrific day for AFC.

Brilliant win. Back to full strength. Things are looking good for Arsenal.

Now we got 2 x home games coming up against Crystal Palace and Leeds. We need to win both before we play Liverpool.

Arsenal 11th Away from 14 PL games.

04/05 - Won 12 Away Games
01/02 - Won 14 Away Games

So both those records could be equalled or broked.

Last season won 9 Drew 1 Lost 9

This is where i said at start of season we need to improve away from home and we have massively.

Villa game was turning point for us, that day it was just about 3 points. Every team needs a game like that to break a bad spell.

Palace up next who we havent beat at the Emirates for quite a few seasons, they will come and park the bus so we need early goals against them.

Certain posters will take Son over Martinelli, even this season. :)))

When I read it, it did raise eyebrows. Just like Salah, Son's best days are behind him. They're in decline. No one in their right mind would take Son over Martinelli.

Most impressive thing about todays game was the work off the ball, every time we lost the ball to fulham, the team hunted in packs to get the ball back and pressed really well, yes in a long season you cant do that every game. However this is 1st time in a while were the energy levels at start of game seemed high again.

With more and more players coming back from injury having a fully fit starting 11 and now a stronger then before bench will only help.

Some people tend to make bizarre claims. Like i said Martinelli is 12 months behind saka in terms of development, this will be his 2nd season in a row playing 25+ PL game is a season, and hes improved from last season. Both Saka and Martinelli werent as clinical last season, but they will only get better with Age.

Salah is still a quality player, Son is now on decline yes.

All teams would happily take Martinelli in their team.

We're so blessed to have Saka and Martinelli in our side.

Barring Messi (who does play multiple positions) there is no one better than Saka in the right wing forward position. It used to be Salah but Saka has overtaken him.

We are very Blessed indeed to have both. In regards to Saka, hes now played 25+ PL games for 4 seasons running. He started off playing Left back and now one of the best Young wingers around.

I hope he can become half as good as what Gareth Bale was, who in a similar way started off playing as a full back / wing back and then became a world class winger. I think if Saka reaches his full potential i think he can be on that sort of level as a player one day. Yes he may now win CLs etc.. like Bale did. But as a poor footballer i can not see why he cant aim to be just as good.

The win was great, but the Jesus return was even better. So so happy that he is back, and he already looked so sharp despite being out all these months.

Yep. We've won 5 in a row and incredibly we are only going to get better. It's looking good!

After the City game, On paper we have the following fixture

Villa, Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth, Palace, Leeds

And i thought to really bounce back we would need to win 6 or even 7 of these before the liverpool game. We have won 5/5 With the Villa game being the turning point. We need to win the next 2 home games and hope City drop points against Liverpool some how.

The its 9 games in April which will make or break season in PL and EL. But return to form and now some sqaud depth is a good positive.

Arsenal in london Derbys (Away from home)

Palace 0-2 Arsenal
Brentford 0-3 Arsenal
Spurs 0-2 Arsenal
Fulham 0-3 Arsenal

To not concede a goal in any of these london derbys away games is mightily impressive.

Hopefully Liverpool can get a result at City and we can extend our lead to 7 or 9 points on Saturday

Arsenal play Palace on sunday. Man city are playing in FA Cup vs Burnley (west ham PL will be moved to another date)

So Arsenal need to extend lead to 8 points.

The City vs Liverpool game is after the international break, we play Leeds at home on same day.

oh also forgot the 0-1 away to chelsea.

Quite fun to look at the league table. 21 games won out of 27 played with still 11 to go. Most we've won in a season since the Invincibles 19 years ago is 24.

If we win at least 6 out of the next 11 we will actually have won more games than the Invincibles did.

What a season, what a team, what a manager.

Mikel Arteta hails Leandro Trossard impact and Gabriel Jesus return as Arsenal beat Fulham

Mikel Arteta saluted Leandro Trossard's "football intelligence" after he claimed a hat-trick of assists in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Fulham and said Gabriel Jesus must earn his starting spot following his long-awaited return from injury.

Trossard produced a player-of-the-match performance at Craven Cottage, setting up Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard's goals as Arsenal re-established a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The game also featured a return for Jesus, who appeared as a late substitute to make his first Arsenal appearance since November following his recovery from a knee injury, but the Brazilian has returned to intense competition for places.

Trossard played as false nine against Fulham and his starring performance was even more impressive given he was forced off injured in the 3-2 win over Bournemouth only a week ago.

Asked about Trossard's display in his press conference, Arteta said: "When we talk about composure and finding the right colour when it's looking really blurry in the box and many players rush passes, he's the opposite

"He got three assists and could have scored two. I think he was really impressive.

"Not only that, he had an injury three days ago which could have taken a week, or another 10 days, but he was really willing to come back early and the doctors and medical staff did a lot of good work to get that.

"It makes a big difference in the team. We needed him today and his contribution was superb."

The Belgian has made an eye-catching impact since his £27m arrival from Brighton, adapting seamlessly to his new surroundings.

"It's football intelligence," added Arteta. "He's really clever to understand straight away what we want, what's required. He's executed it really well."

11 matches remaining and still there are matches against City ( A), Liverpool (A), Newcastle (A), Chelsea ( H ), Brighton(H). Gosh, this league is relentless.

What a season, what a team, what a manager.

Massive improvement in a lot of ways

More goals this season already in PL then we did in entire last season (62 v 61)

More points away from this season already then we did in entire last season (35 vs 28)

Last season our home for was decent, our away form poor (we have addressed the poor away form).

In regards to the invincibles (yes we went entire PL season unbeaten) but from a overall team quality point of view I always personally rate the 01/02 higher (for me thats the best side we had in the PL era) and the 97/98 interms of a starting 11 wasn't to far behind it.

Fair point, the Invincibles strongest XI that's often quoted actually started very few games together. That season is the greatest achievement in the club's history I'd say, but to have a team that strong and get knocked out in the quarter-finals of the CL is just criminal. If ever there was a season to win a European trophy, it had to be that. Just take a look back to the bracket and see how weak it was that year.

Hopefully the new gen can rectify that :)

In regards to just the PL, Arsenal fans will look at the team going unbeaten and getting 90 points and it was a good achievement, but Interms of the quoted strongest 11 yeah they didn't play together as much as they should have that season. Also the CL defeat to chelsea and FA Cup loss to united in same week were a disappointment.

Why I rate the 01/02 team better is I think it at had more players at their peak at same time. Ljungberg (barclays player of season), Pires (football writers player of season) and probably best winger in PL at that time, Henry scoring 20+ goals, Bergkamp and wiltord also got in double figures in all competitions.

- The won the PL and FA Cup double
- 87 points in PL (only 3 less than invincible side)
- scored in every PL game in that season (only PL team to do that), also during that period the team scored in 55 PL games in a row
- 47 points (14 wins 5 draws) away from home only Chelsea 48 and man city 50 have earned more away points in a season
- lost zero game away from home (only conceded 11 goals away from home, only Chelsea with 9 have conceded less in a PL season away from home)
- Won last 13 PL games in a row that season (only Man city 14, have won more consecutive games at end of a season during a end of season title run in), that season Arsenal won 15 out of their last 16 games as well. Arsenal won 19 out off 22 games from their last PL defeat that season vs Newcastle. People always go on about these great runs city go on during last 5 years, Arsenal churned out that sort of level back then in that season.

I don't think the 01/02 team gets enough credit when you look at how it played and records it created.

Arsenal lead 1-0 but Saliba off injured early on, not a good sign. We cant afford to have him missing Rob holding is a liability at CB.

I hope Saliba's injury isn't serious. I've read on Twitter that Tomiyasu's however might be.

Tomiyasu is made out of glass, seems to get injured all the time. I hope Saliba isn't serious also. Palace game on Sunday (as bad as palace are they haven't lost to Arsenal on any of last 4 visits to emirates) then the international break.

Going forward we look good. But sporting causing problems on break. So we will need a 2nd goal

All Sporting lisbon so far in this 2nd half, really poor how Arsenal keep giving ball away in midfield. I can see an equalising goal here coming up.

1-1 shocking play in midfield give the ball away, but what a lob from half way line over Ramsdale. Pathetic 2nd half so far.

What an incredible goal by Sporting. Even I had to get off my chair and clap.

This is embarrassing, giving ball away so easily, almost let lisbon in again, now needless corner given away which they almost score from.

Why are we struggling in Europe's second rate competition? Are we playing at a lower intensity or is it because we need best XI to click and be in complete control?

Really poor play to give ball away in 1st place. Vieira and Jorginho have been garbage in this 2nd half.

Partey on for jorghino.

Sporting look like they will win this, still creating chances

Holding looks like he'll get a red card in every game he starts. Proper liability.

Lame excuses, should be no excuses for how poor team has been in 2nd half, most of these players on pitch will be needed at various points in the title run in.

Vieira still on pitch and he's been shocking.

Ripped open again and Ramsdale saves us.

This is the back 4 that will play if saliba remains injured

Lisbon look favourites yo win this now, if goes to extra time that won't help either with game on Sunday.

Will be on a par with olympiakos and villareal humiliations

FT 1-1 (3-3 agg)

Extra time it is, shambolic 2nd half, xhaka and Vieira both need to be dragged off. Get ESR on.

Both these games have shown how weak our midfield is when partey or oddegard ain't there.

What the hell was that from Vieira, get this clown of the pitch

What a chance for Trossard and keeper touches it onto the post

What the hell was that from Vieira, get this clown of the pitch

It was so bad. I can see Arteta loaning him out this summer or seeing him sold for a cut price. He's not good enough.

Holding looks so bad as well!

Whats with these stupid flicks in the penalty box, lost count how many players have tried it.

Two brilliant saves from keeper save lisbon.

Now they are down to 10 men.

But there keeper looks really good.

Strange decision to expect and control the win, concede stupid goal then allow extra time before bringing on the XI. How this is helpful with a match on Sunday in a tight tital race makes little sense when most expected them to prioriitise the league

Arsenal out

Sporting lisbon deserved that better team for most of game embarrassing defeat for Arsenal

Arsenal are out :)))

Arsenal have won no Europa League or Champions League in their history. They have got no European history, yet Arsenal fans act like they are some European powerhouse. :misbah

It's one thing to lose to Sporting with our reserves but with a strong team this is unacceptable.

I hope this isn't going to psychologically wreck us going forward.

When did Arsenal fans say they were a European power house? Think your clutching at straw with you silly statement. Most Arsenal fans will tell you teams performances in Europe have been poor.

3rd time under Arteta they have bottled it in europa league, this team would get humiliated in CL next season

At least we don't go into hiding like you did when your team lost 7-0. Remember you're 16 points behind Arsenal.

Misbah taught you well with the small team mentality. Choti choti khushiye :misbah

He's the most deluded football fan on here. He thinks ETH is ahead of Arteta in his development even though he's been a manager for 10 years :)))

I didn't go into hiding.

And Arsenal know all about getting battered away from home at their rivals ground. We battered you 8-2 once upon a time. Remember?

Zero control of the game in midfield from the 2nd half onwards, this is what happens when you play xhaka, Vieira and jorghino together, poor passing, Zero pressing and Zero mobility. The fact xhaka stayed on and Vieira didn't get taken off till extra time was a shambles.

1st pressure game at back end of season and they bottle it.

Ramsdale is an awful keeper when it comes to penalties, didn't expect him to save any. He should have actually saved 2 of them.
