Arsenal FC | 2024/25 Season

I agree with you but Saka has carried us this season. Arsenal limped over the line against two relegation candidates, Soton and Leicester, so based on what's happened recently, I couldn't help but feel nervous.
Ideally we should have got a top quality right winger as competition for places for saka. Instead we are stuck with Jesus and Sterling.

On top of that Nwaneri could have used wide right

Once we went down to 10 men, we should have just played a back 3, we had a good shield of rice and Partey infront. Yet we decided just to park bus with zero outlet. Trossard has zero pace and havertz is a statue in such instances

And Declan Rice was like a rabbit in head lights, every time the ball went anywhere near him.

@MK7Z @IMMY69 @topspin

Do any of you 3 trust havertz, Jesus, trossard, sterling to step up in tight games if other key players are out?

When I mean tight games, I mean ones where chances are limited.

Arsenal are going to need a creative player in midfield vs liverpool.

Rice, partey and merino physically is good, but their is no creativity.

Then if uve got a front 3 that isn't clinical on limited chances, it's asking for trouble.

Time for players to step up

I think out the ones mentioned Havertz is probably best pick and has on the whole been good. Issue is when we play defensive his attacking output is restricted deaming him pretty useless in these situations.

That's the point I was trying to get at, when we do play defensively or have limited creativity, havertz is non existent. Sane goes for Jesus.

This is where the strikers have to do something out of nothing and our strikers don't.

This was issue last season, in the really tight games.

Ye I know what you mean. Someone who can go on a mazy run, something out of nothing.

Mattinelli could be that guy but his form has only recently improved

I'm certain this Gooners criticism won't effect you. Spursy, Seem to have a soft spot for you. Lol
I openly criticise and praise team when it's justified.

Yet you criticise Rice every game, so clearly you ain't watching games objectively.

I could do same with plenty of united players I don't rate, but I don't as I do things on merit

I thought Martinelli could make difference in 2nd half today, but that miss is typical of his indifferent finishing.

Unless players outside saka don't step up, we are falling short again.

Havertz - yes
Trossard - if he starts on the LW, no. As a CAM, maybe but the guy is clumsy. I’m starting to have doubts on whether he should be allowed to start again when Ode and Martinelli are both fit.
Jesus and Sterling - certainly no

When saw the team line-up for today’s game, I didn’t like the look of Rice, Partey and Merino starting in midfield because they’re all specialist number 6 or 8 type of players.

You need a specialist CAM if you want creativity.

If your going to play a midfield 3 like thar, your front 3 have to have pace, creativity and be clinical. The front 3 we had today, plus what we had on bench don't offer that.

Jesus is like that one selfish player you get in every five aside team; tries to beat several players, doesn't look for the pass and then falls over in a heap.

Havitz actually wasn't too bad. Not his best game.

Trossard had an awful game today but is unlikely to start too often. He's a decent finisher but makes more impact coming from the bench, after Martinelli has run them ragged.

Kiwor needs to go... doesn't offer anything.

It was a challenging game for Arsenal with all the absentees they had but Arteta made some blunders with that starting XI.

Trossard can have no complaints for being reduced to a bench role when Ode and Martinelli are both fit. He’s potentially cost Arsenal 5 points with those two red cards this season.

Arsenal must prioritise a new left winger in the summer. Ideally someone who can also play CAM.

Arteta needs to give starts Nwaneri because like AJ said we’ve got a congested schedule coming up soon.

Ye that midfield in hindsight was to safe.

But even then should be beating Bournemouth

With the absences of Saka and Odegaard, Arteta indeed was trying to play it safe and hoping for a 1-0 win.

Worked against Spurs but backfired badly today. Having said that things may have ended differently if it wasn’t for Trossard’s awful pass to Saliba.

I really like Nwaneri..
the lad has bags of potential.
Needs to be played more

This defeat is just a red herring for the imminent dominance and anointing of Arteta FC, for the prophecy will be fulfilled or extended, dependent on the outcome of this season….

We need Timber to cover for Saliba at RCB, otherwise we'll have to play either Ben White or Kiwior in that position. If White plays RCB then who plays RB? Partey?
Timber is a big asset as a full-back. I wouldn’t play him as a CB especially due to his lack of height for a CB.

If Arteta doesn’t want two left footed CBs then White RCB and Partey RB is very likely, although it could be very risky because Partey doesn’t have the pace to cope with Diaz.

I think playing Calafiori and Gabriel in the middle with Timber LB and White RB would be the best bet given the circumstances.

White isn’t very quick either but he is a lot more athletic than Partey.

Fair enough, my point was does VAR ask ref to look at every yellow on basis it can be a red.

It was a red card, I have no qualms on the foul by saliba he was last man.

Yes, they do

If they deem a yellow card to be worthy of a red card they would always ask the referee to a look

Allan for Everton against us a couple of seasons back was given a yellow card, VAR got involved and it was turned into a red. Bruno G a couple of years ago against Southampton, yellow card was rightly turned into a red by VAR

There have been other instances too, just can't recall any other specific ones

It’s mind boggling that’s he not getting minutes when we’re playing 3 games every 7 days and have injuries in the CAM/RW areas of the pitch.

It’s going to be very interesting to see which 2 x CBs will pair up against Liverpool.

You make an excellent point about Timber’s height. Ideally you want someone above 6ft, at the very least, and he’s just shy of that.

Partey vs Diaz will be hard to watch. Reminds me of Zinchenko vs Salah.

Arteta is reluctant to play a left footer at RCB.

I think the attack is more of an issue. We have decent defensive cover. However upfront I can't see us creating much.

Unless Saka and Odegaard are back.

Even our reliancebon set pieces didn't help us today as we had a right footer taking corners from the right. Outswingers when our strength is inswingers.

The set pieces today were awful.

The lack of creativity and playing with a statue upfront and 2 circus performers on wings didn't help either.

Not much positives but Partey has been playing well this season. Wanted to mention it other week but forgot. When fit he is my 1st choice in midfield with Odegaard.

Probably best Arsenal player today, he tried to run with ball and be positive, also take a few shots. Rice and merino in front of him were to similar with possession and no cutting edge

@topspin - I don't think Arsenal are going to look at another CAM, the way Arteta wants to play he seems instant he wants a xhaka type player on left side, rather than a more potent player going forward.

The options and signings being used their have been abysmal.

Vieira - not good enough
Havertz - very poor in midfield
Trossard - used there for a few games, a couple of goals vs Leicester shouldn't mask over fact he's been average in that position.
Merino - we will see, but the fact his level of passing is mediocre will nor offer much going forward.

So all this points to nwaneri, yes we shouldn't be reliant on a young kid, but not testing him in home games vs Lowe opposition to see if he can do a job for other games was criminal.

There will always be games during a season where there is a lack of creativity, we saw it vs Newcastle (away), Fulham (away) last season and this is wear players have to make something out of nothing and outside of saka, our players can't do that..

Arsenal next away game is Newcastle which will be a game of limited chances with the way they set up and play, the lack of cutting edge could be exposed again.

Need to win well vs shakthar midweek, vs liverpool a lot of these squad players need to step. Can't be any excuse not to be competing on all front from anyone this season.

Looks like the medical team did some magic with him.His body was falling apart.

Time to do the same magic with Tomi. Another walking injury.

Ahead of Declan🤯🤯🤯

All 3 midfielders are limited , defensive minded . The forwards aren’t going to get Arsenal 20 goals each . Arsenals defence & very few injuries in the last 2 years helped them to finish 2nd . This season , esp the last two matches , it’s looked an avg team . Liverpool shouldn’t lose away to these lot , a win or a draw looks likely .

It may be a return to the good old days of City & Liverpool back competing, the rest watching .

What ever back 4, including the centre back pairing they are going to go with, they should test that out vs shakthar midweek. Last thing we need is a disjointed back 4 vs liverpool and salah and go having a field day

And when we are back, it's straight back to the helm.

Maybe 3/4 years , the old failures need to be moved on . City & Liverpool have the best recruitment & young players coming through. It’s a squad game now the big clubs . As seen yesterday , Arsenal has 3/4 out , it’s a different team . The level drops considerably, Bournemouth imo may still have won against xi .

The delusion is real.

Odegaard is one of the best players in the world. Miles ahead of any Liverpool midfielder.

Rice is one of the best DMs in the world. Miles ahead of any Liverpool midfielder.

A fit Partey is a top player as well. He also walks into the Liverpool midfield.

Furthermore, Liverpool never “competed” with City. Winning one title compared to City’s 6 is not competition.

Yes no doubt about it. Klopp left a quality Squad for slot. Only issue is, if Van dyk, Salah decide to leave end of the season, it will not be easy for you guys to replace them. Generational players.

As for City, Hugh boost for them if Pep stays. His hunger success and their Quality is a NIGHTMARE FOR ARTETA MOUTH PIECE MAMOON
🤣🤣🤣

You still GUARANTEE 2 PLs in the next 3 years after that poor performance ? :wenger

You don’t have the squad to win it unless City do something wild . Liverpool next season will be back to recent years . Only saliba can get into it the LFC XI .

Arteta had two great chances to win it , but bottled it . Maybe next season you’ll compete again.

So what if they lost? City lost 5-2 to Leicester in 2020 and still won the league. Rival fans are acting if Arsenal are the first team in history to lose a match away from home to a less fancied opponent.

Cut the crap. There is no difference between City and Arsenal now. Liverpool is inferior and they will finish below Arsenal yet again and that won’t change in the coming seasons.

Arsenal is clearly better than Liverpool and you think only Saliba would get into the team. What nonsense. Your delusion is beyond control.

If only Saliba gets into the Liverpool team, what stopped Liverpool from finishing above Arsenal in the last two seasons?

The midfield should be Rice, Merino/Partey and Odegaard. Nwaneri should be used to deputise for either Saka or Odegaard.

Yesterday's choice of midfield wasn't great from Arteta. He got it badly wrong. I hope he learns from this and becomes more flexible with his thinking.

@KingKhanWC as much as I enjoy you winding the Arteta cheerleader up, your claim only saliba is good enough to get into current Liverpool team is hilarious.

I don't really like all this combined 11 nonsense, but your claim here is silly to say the least.

Yesterday's selections shows he longer trusts Jesus, also that he doesn't think nwaneri is ready to start.

Also starting Merino in oddegard position, when his passing ability is levels below wasn't great. Merino is a decent player, but he doesn't take the team up a level. This is a point a made at start of season.

Arsenal should have been looking at a midfield signing to take them up a level. Not a steady eddy type player.

Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea next and if key players are still missing and others fail to step up its going to expose the lack of ambition in summer when it came to signing players.

City played crap today and won, we play badly and never seem to ever get things from games.

Competing but 1 covid title. Some rivalry that. Pep wiped the floor with pools challenge

Agreed with all this. Merino is a number 8 and possibly a makeshift number 6 but never a CAM.

It reminded me of when Havertz were in midfield.

I watched City and indeed they were well below their best but still managed to steal it at the end. But I think they got lucky with that VAR decision. Bernado Silve gives Jose Sa a nudge. I felt that should've been disallowed.

Bro forget the Arsenal finishing above Liverpool last 2 seasons, I want to hear the hilarious justification of how certain 🐶💩 Liverpool players are getting ahead of Arsenal ones in his 11.

Apart from Allision, VVD and salah im interested to hear is logic or the lack of it.

Purely for comedy purposes.

You do realise VVD, TAA and Salah are in the last year of their contract? At least two (if not all) will leave at the end of the season.

You prove yet again, that you don't have a scooby doo. I don't blame you, it must be hard to keep up given Man Utd's demise.

What do people think of the city goal being given?

It was given offside on field and overturned.

Try to talk on it without any bias.

I think he is impeding the goalkeeper and was not clear and obvious to overturn.

But that's VAR and refs for ya

don't highlight the first line lol. Read the whole post. I did point out, there will be issues if VVD and Salah left.

Maybe you've still not come around from yesterday's absolute shower of xxite.

Was impedding the keeper, we saw Ake do it last season and a goal was given.

No shock goal was given.

Now in Chelsea vs liverpool game Tosin has fouled Jota, was last man, no red given.

On current form yes only Saliba . It’s an opinion & what suits a teams style of play . Liverpool front is no contest , midfield arguable but I prefer mids who can complete goal scoring chances with their passing . Of course I expect Arsenal fans to disagree , we all have a certain loyalty to own players also

You’ve never come close to being on par with city & certainly not this season. Leicester & Bournemouth at times played your team off the park .

You are clueless lol
What rubbish.

Last season:

City 91 pts, 62 GD
Arsenal 89 pts, 62 GD

This is parity in every sense of the word. Now let’s get back to Liverpool vs Arsenal.

Apparently, Liverpool is much better than Arsenal (only Saliba will get into their team) and Klopp is much better than Arteta, but yet, Arsenal not only finished comfortably above Liverpool two seasons in a row, Klopp only took 2 points off Arteta in the league from a possible 12.

Even Sherlock and Dr. Watson cannot solve this mystery.

What makes it even more delusional is the fact that Salah, VVD and TAA may all end up leaving next Summer. At least two of them will.

This season will Liverpool's last chance of winning the PL in a very long time.
Chelsea will eventually get it right, when you keep spending money, you will eventually find the right manager who can take advantage of it, they have the pull too because of the London appeal.

Liverpool is a dead club. They will soon be back to their normal level in the PL era now that their golden generation is coming to an end. They have zero pull.

As far as Arsenal is concerned, 11v11 they are as good as anyone, but the lack of discipline is concerning. You can’t sustain all these red cards. I hope Arteta is able to rectify it immediately.

I've taken a leaf out of your book. Your obsession with Havertz is no different to me being critical of chief Water carrier.
The difference is... He supports Arsenal. So his opinion is about his own player.

You support North England FC so not sure why you mention him so much.

A bit of a brotherly advice... Drop it. Its giving very strange vibes. You either slipped into his DMs and he ignored you or there is something you are not telling us.

It is also worth nothing that Arsenal is a very system oriented team right now and not having all 10 outfield players on the pitch makes a huge difference to how Arsenal set up and both defend and attack.

It is not a team that relies on individual brilliance where a superstar can produce magic out of nothing and still drag the team over the line with 10 men.

It is no surprise that Arsenal have won all matches when they had 11 men on the pitch and none with 10 on the pitch.

You’ve never come close to being on par with city & certainly not this season. Leicester & Bournemouth at times played your team off the park .

Did you watch the Leicester game?

We absolutely battered them. Not sure why you make statements that are so inaccurate.

Maybe you are not used to being challenged when you make them.

I don't agree with the hype surrounding a player who in my opinion with other English players including Kane is vastly overrated.

There was a defender on one side, but he was behind play. VAR probably didn't even review it either.

The refs just apply the rule randomly whenever they feel like it
