Arsenal FC | 2024/25 Season

Actually not mad at Nwaneiri going off. Last thing we need is a sending off. Young player could easily mistime a tackle

Not one player has stood out today.

Brighton were not even good.

We decided to waste time in the 1st half when we were playing well instead of going for it.

Not champion mentality.

2 points dropped

Partey - awful
Calafori - headless chicken
Merino - 🐶💩
Trossard - useless all game
Jesus - spent all game fouling, offside, rolling around
Odegaard - rubbish when he came on
Martinelli - spent most of time rolling around on floor

There is an Internet outage in Peshawar, so expect the cheerleader to have missed the game

You did and I hadn't seen much of them to have opinion.
Merino I'd seen at sociedad and Spain and was never going to elevate us

Calafori was injury prone in Italy, like Tomiyasu. His rash defending is being exposed in a faster paced league

I'm singling Merino out as he was our major signing. Chased him all summer and I'd love to know how he has improved us.

We needed players to improve us.

He missed a sitter and did absolutely nothing I mean nothing all game.

Back to the line up... Safe to say didn't work. Merino did not deserve to start. Partey should play midfield ALWAYS

That position in midfield has not been filled other then xhaka

Arteta has wasted 30M+ Vieira, 60M+ havertz and now merino 28M on substandard midfielders

I wont be shocked if kronkes get fed up of giving the manager money for trash midfielders and left backs

Anyone thinking we just need a striker to fix things. The midfield needs a revamp as well

Poor poor poor

That was a pathetic second half performance.... unbelievably bad.
Not a single good performance.

Even Nwaneri, who scored our goal, looked poor after he scored although he's only 17 so will give him some rope.

I'm not going to say much more now as I'm just too angry

I've just seen a slow mo of the pen
Saliba touches the ball Lmao. Never seen a pen give for an accidental head clash before.

To be clear I don't think we deserved the win.

Talking about the incident in isolation I've never seen a pen given for that and probably won't ever again.

Accident or unintentional its still a foul.
Yes it won't happen again, but it's a foul.

All that time wasting while we were 1-0 up and not much urgency when it was 1-1

Didbt have the legs in 2nd half . Midfield slowed down like shot tortoise, serious issues in their fitness and questions over their training and recovery esp as a game every 3 days or so this month . Arteta doesn't help with weird changes to line up and player positions.

Newcastle is going to be tough mid week , they are very fit players.

Did you see how Gordon hurt his face today?

Why was that not a pen... What was the difference.

Again this is not the reason.

I'm discussing football. These Refs are never held accountable

Arsensl now have 5 home games in a row, so no excuses on fatigue or travel.

Next up an inform Newcastle on Tuesday which will be very tough

Liverpool 5 clear. 2 games in hand, including quarbani vs united tomorrow

Being 1 up away ar HT , some very poor managerial decisions, lack of ideas and being blind to not seeing your players losing stamina, unable to adjust lead to Brighton slicing the midfield and controlling it.

In the end a point is a good result on that 2nd half performance.

Liverpool have to win comfortably tomorrow, no team is applying any pressure to their lead

The referee and VAR in Newcastle vs spurs game was a shambles.

Joelinton handball

He must have relatives in the FA, with amount of stuff he gets away with

You don't need to tell me about clueless management, I've said it for 5 years.

More importantly please can you donate to pay for electricity card in Peshawar so Arteta cheerleader can watch 2 minute highlights

Feel free to be honest best way and say what you think.

Feel free to be honest best way and say what you think.
Poor line up.

Rice Merino and Jorginho midfield for a title challenging eam.

Partey your best midfielder being asked to play RB. I think sky bought a stat up when he plays midfield and Arsenals point ratio compared to when he doesn't.

This was not a good Brighton team and they didn't park the bus either.

Merino turns slower than a double decker bus. Then goes backwards.

Odegaard has been poor for a few games now. People blaming his newborn as though he is the 1st footballer to ever have a child. STOP it's embarrassing. And I'm probably his biggest fan.

Califori looks lost off the ball.
remember when Zinchenko used to play and Gabriel used to get exposed. Same vibes

Trossard is a sub... Poor when he starts ye started after Martinelli did well last week.

I said earlier in the thread we are not no challengers. It's like Oles United when they came 2nd. They werent challengers just best of the rest.

Carabao cup midweek I couldn't care less.

If we were a serious club we'd have identified players to sign weeks ago ready for when the window opens. But it's alrite we are unbeaten in 13.

Mikel go ask your self acclaimed best owners for the tools you need or just go buy a coat you can't zip up and we've gone full circle

Yeah Merino is trash, I said he was Spain 6th choice and sociedads 3rd best midfielder behing brais mendez and zubemendi. But Arteta will keep forcing him into starting 11.

Jorginho legs went ages ago. He got away numerous times been caught on ball dawdling.

Partey - won't be shocked if he gets injured again with him being over exerted at RB, he's still our best midfielder agreed. So moving him is just play dumb from Arteta

Oddegard is vastly overated, yes he's a vital cog in this system, but those deluded posters in this thread calling him world class have got a slap of reality again.

There hasn't been a single Italian CB who has come from serie A and been amazing in PL, yet the fan base got gassed up over a few performances at international level. This guy is a worse defender then crychenko.

Trossard or Martinelli are both useless when they start, sterling is injured. Another managers mess.

We ain't signing any one major, the Kroenkes have no ambition, also I bet they are fed up of giving Arteta money which he is wasting

The managers poor in game management
Poorly built squad
Weak mentality and no accountability
Unambitious owners

Only thing missing is sleep bag coat now foe Arteta.

Supposedly the last 5 years of Arteta has been a success according to one clueless 🤡

At this point, the refs are not even hiding their agenda against Arsenal. That was not a penalty at all. Another two points robbed because of PGMOL corruption.

Congratulations to Liverpool for winning the league, but if you bottle it, Arsenal will be ready. Otherwise, Arsenal should focus on next season now. This season is out of their hands.

'Never seen this in my life' - was 'bizarre' penalty harsh on Arsenal?

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta bemoaned a penalty decision he called "bizarre" as his side's Premier League title challenge suffered a setback at Brighton.

The second-placed Gunners looked on course to claim a precious three points on the south coast following an early opener from 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.

However, they had to settle for a point and a 1-1 draw after Joao Pedro equalised from the spot following a freak incident in which he was accidentally headbutted by visiting defender William Saliba.

"We are really disappointed with the decision that leads to the goal because I have never seen something like this in my life," Arteta told BBC Sport.

"He touches the ball as well. [It is] bizarre. That means we have probably never seen it before. I haven't in my career. I asked the boys if they have, and no-one has seen this before. So it is a new one.

"I checked and, after three seconds, they said they already checked VAR. It seems quick."

While Spaniard Arteta was clearly frustrated by referee Anthony Taylor's decision to award the penalty to the hosts, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler felt it was the obvious outcome to the situation.

"It was a clear penalty. It is head to head, but if it is another piece of the body everybody would say it was a penalty," said the German.

"Joao Pedro places the ball with his head and Saliba comes too late."

What actually happened?

Brighton were searching for an equaliser just before the hour mark when Pedro flicked the ball up in the air in the Arsenal penalty area.

As the Brazil forward nodded it into his own path, trying to turn to his right, there was a clash of heads as Saliba attempted to clear.

Referee Taylor took a few seconds to consider what had happened as Pedro fell to the ground.

The official then pointed to the spot and after the VAR check Pedro sent visiting goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way, finding the right corner as he levelled the scores.

On Match of the Day, the pundits were convinced a penalty should not have been awarded.

"It was clearly headed by Saliba," said presenter Gary Lineker. "Never ever have we seen a penalty given for head clashes."

Danny Murphy added: "They both head the ball before they clash. They are genuinely going for it. It's a coming together."

'Chaotic' defending cost Arsenal

Although Arsenal considered it a contentious decision, pundits at the game made the case that Brighton merited their penalty.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jamie Redknapp suggested the Gunners only had themselves to blame.

"When you think about Gabriel and Saliba you think about calmness, but there was chaos in Arsenal's defending there," said Redknapp on Sky Sports.

"The defending was chaotic. Is it a penalty? Absolutely. You can see the contact. He heads him and he goes down; you can't afford to do that in the box.

"We have seen a lot worse penalties than that one. They were rash in their defending. I can see why people say it's soft, but he is hit on the head and goes down. It's a foul. Arteta is entitled to his opinion, but they didn't play well. That is the fact."

Ex-Fulham midfielder Steve Sidwell added: "It was a genuine attempt to get the ball, but Pedro gets there first. I think it's a penalty. A clear penalty for me."

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Arsenal defender Matt Upson added: "A clash of heads. It's an interesting one. How often do you see a penalty given away for an accidental headbutt?"

Meanwhile, fan reaction on social media overwhelmingly endorsed the award of the penalty.

Dom: Not sure what the complaint is? Missed the ball and headbutted him. Same way if you miss the ball with your foot it's a foul. It wasn't a clash of heads, he missed the ball.

Mike: It's a stonewall penalty. Yes the clash of heads may have been accidental, but if it's a clash of legs that was accidental it's still a penalty

Neil: Unusual penalty, but when a defender accidentally trips an attacker when trying to play the ball it's a foul. Guess this isn't that much different. Good call from the ref.

Chris: It wasn't a 'clash of heads' - Saliba head-butted Joao Pedro! If you can give a penalty away by kicking someone, what's the difference?

'Not moment to think too much about title'

Nwaneri's goal in the first half was his second in the league this season.

It made him the sixth player to score multiple Premier League goals before turning 18 after Wayne Rooney (seven), Michael Owen (five), Danny Cadamarteri (three), James Milner (three) and Federico Macheda (two).

He was booked just before half-time for taking too long over a corner, and he was then replaced at the break by Gabriel Martinelli because of injury.

"Really bad news because I think we've lost him," said Arteta afterwards.

"We had to take him off at half-time with some muscular issues."

The England Under-19 international has been deputising for injury-hit Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

"What a good replacement Nwaneri is for Bukayo Saka. He fits the bill - the pace, body shape, and the lovely left foot he has got," said Upson on BBC Radio 5 Live after the teenager blasted Arsenal into the lead.

Arsenal's failure to collect maximum points means Liverpool have the chance to go eight points clear at the top on Sunday if they beat Manchester United.

"It's not the moment to think too much about the title," said Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori. "We need to focus on ourselves."

Redknapp added: "If Liverpool win tomorrow it opens it up for them. I have said there will be twists and turns, but if Arsenal keep performing like this there won't be twists and turns.

"Arsenal have the same points as last season at this stage, but they are not playing well yet. They haven't got Saka and they struggle to open a team up at this moment. The game is hard for them at this moment."

Frustrated to have come away with just a point, Arteta said: "In the second half we didn't really grab the game or dominate enough to have certain moments and be more of a threat in their half.

"When you are playing every three days, or less than that, you cannot with the amount of injuries and situations maintain the level of performance and competitiveness. Today we lacked it in the second half.

"Today was not about fatigue. it was about the simple things that we have to do in ball possession to give chances and dominate the game in the right areas."

🤣🤣 there is an agenda, the FA hate arteta

Arsenal players are getting injured

It's a blip...

Arteta will be back next season (heard this rubbish for 5 seasons now)

Arteta didn't have control of all transfers

Slot fluked the title in 1st season (I'm sure this excuse will be used)

Arteta will win 2 out of next 3,4,100 titles

Havertz and oddegard were ill from crying to much

After 20 PL games - Arsenal have only won 2 games against teams in current top 10 this season vs Villa and Forrest,

Yet people want to cry about Refs, injuries, illness etc.. Arsenal only turn up against bottom half of league teams.

I mean, if there is corruption and an obvious agenda against Arsenal then it's an impossibility that Liverpool will bottle it

I'm sure everyone is looking forward to "Dark Arts Derby" this week, both teams time wasting, fouling etc.. and worse thing is, Newcastle do have attackers that can score goals, so if Arsenal are impotent again on Tuesday, they are in huge trouble

Can't blame referees for Arsenals blunders. You have to learn to take it on the chin and move on.

I think reality is staring right at you, Arteta has taken the club as further as he can , and come end of the season, the Gooners should move on from him, and for your sakes, get in someone who can take you to the next step and win the title.

I've supported Arsenal far to long and don't have head loss. Normally I'm annoyed for about an hour after the game then I'm like meh.

The most frustrating part of this season it's all self inflicted. Lack of quality signings. Square pegs round holes by the manager.

Yes Refs have been dodgy against us however that does not excuse us being poor at the things we are in control of.

Arsenal football club did not have a striker on the bench. Heck they didn't even have a proper one on the pitch.

Also something that should not go unnoticed. We sold Xhaka on the back of his best season with us.

Partey is likely to leave on a free after arguably his best and most consistent season with us.

Jorg will probably leave or go to a coaching role.

That's big positions we need to recruit for. It's alrite Mikel will just buy another left back and goal keeper.

Oh ye I'm not really to fussed about numbers as they don't mean much these days. But 2 numbers have been iconic for Arsenal over the years from an attacking perspective.

Number 10 and Number 14.

Neither shirts are in use at the moment.....

If we don't go to St James with anything less than a 2 goal leas it's gonna be a long night up north in the 2nd leg

It was the correct decision as per the handball law

Did get lucky with Burn avoiding a second yellow for handball
Joelinton is the type of player you'd want in your team but as an opposition he's overly angry and gets away with a lot of persistent fouls before he is booked.

Will be interesting to see how he does without Bruno in midweek

@topspin your thoughts on current mess? Which I told you was coming a while ago.

Oddegard came back during inter game and has been trash in most of the games since. But you thought I had an agenda.

I simply telling you what was coming and it has arrived.

So while the Arteta-fan boy is rolling out the excuses. Anyone want to justify why Arsenal record against teams in current top 10 (20 games played is)

1st to 10th - played 10, Won 2, drawn 6, lost 2

11th to 20th - Played 10 Won 9 drawn 1

It's simple. Arteta plays with the handbrake on and gives them to much respect. They on the other side are happy to take a draw against Arsenal and see it as a good result.

We don't play like big boys

But teams play against us as though we are if that makes sense

Bruno and Schar missing is a huge blow for us, especially Bruno as he's been superb during this good run we have been on

If you offered me a 1-0 loss on Tuesday I'd actually snap your hands off

He plays just like Rafa Benetiz did when he was Liverpool manager, sets up not to lose and wins are a bonus. I remember the season Liverpool finished 2nd to united, but only lost 2 games during season, but drew to many due safety football. Arteta doing the same.

We dropped points in 10 games last season, we have drop points in 9 in 20 this season.

Also going back to the penalty, did anyone complain when we got a penalty for west ham keeper punching one of our players in the head? A while ago

Also if in the penalty box a player touches the ball 1st by poking it and defender is a second to late and touches opposition player intentionally or unintentionally its a penalty. So the ball being headed before the head clash is the same.

Also why did saliba even bother going for ball when Pedro was going nowhere

The non big boy mentality comes from the owners, manager and captain. There is no desire to win titles or accountability at this club.

I have seen nothing this season that would suggest that Arteta isn’t the right man for the job.

Maybe stop watching the 2 minute YouTube highlights everytime the team doesn't win. Always going into hiding like the plastic fan that you are

But but I don't see anything wrong 🤣

As we were at the start of the GW

Liverpool winning was more likely than Arsenal winning. Both drew but I see it as a opportunity lost.

We need to be there when they drop points. But we never are cos we are not serious.
