Asian Games 2018 : 18th August - 2nd September

Another gold from shooting.
Rahi Sarnobat wins gold in 25m pistol.

Ankita Raina of India reaches semis in women's singles Tennis thus assuring us of another bronze.

Today is the last day in wrestling so Iran and Uzbekistan will grab 1 OR 2 GOLD each by end of today.

Manu also broke the qualifying games record, earlier today.

Yes, she made 593, just 1 pt less than Olympic record. Pity she couldn't handle the pressure in main event and was in tears when she got eliminated :(

But she's only 16 we can expect a medal from her in 2020 Olympics.

Jakarta, 22 August 2018 – The ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered its first arbitration procedure related to the 2018 Asian Games.

Four national golf associations (Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan) submitted applications challenging the decision taken on 16 August 2018 by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) not to enforce the Technical Guidelines for golf preventing the participation of professional golf players in the Asian Games. These 4 associations were joined later by the golf associations of the Philippines and
of India and the six applications have been consolidated. The Respondent is the OCA. The national golf associations of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Macau and Uzbekistan have been identified as having possibly registered professional golf players and have joined the procedure as Interested Parties.

This CAS case has been submitted to a Panel of arbitrators composed of:
Mr Anthony Lo Surdo (Australia), President
Mr Enrico Ingles (Philippines), arbitrator
Mr Jahangir Baglari (I.R. Iran), arbitrator

The Panel held a hearing with the parties in person and via telephone conference in the evening of 20 August 2018, from 21:00 to 01:50 at the offices of the CAS ad hoc Division in Jakarta.

The CAS Panel rejected the applications after being satisfied that, on the basis of the evidence submitted at the hearing and after the hearing, none of the players nominated by the NOCs of Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Macau and Sri Lanka for participation in the 18th Asian Games golfing competitions were professional. In the end, the applications became moot in the absence of any juridical foundation to further challenge the OCA Decision.

The full award with the grounds will be published shortly.

Asian Games 2018: Pakistan pulverise Oman for second straight 10-0 victory

Pakistan national hockey team on Wednesday registered their second straight 10-0 victory of the 2018 Asian Games, this time making Oman the victim of their freescoring start to the campaign.

The Green Shirts, who had also dealt a 10-0 shellacking to Thailand in their tournament opener, were unwilling to relent against their weak Pool B rivals.

It took them a little under two minutes to get off the mark for the game, with Mohammad Umar Bhutta being the scorer.

Ajaz Ahmad doubled the lead in the final minute of the opening period, but surprisingly the second period did not see a single goal.

With Pakistan sitting on a 2-0 lead at the end of the half, few would have bet on the final scoreline to go into double figures.

However, all hell broke lose in the third quarter, with the Rizwan Sr-led men breaching the Omani defence no less than five times to up the score a staggering 7-0 in their favour.

By the time the final whistle put the minnows out of their misery, Pakistan had scored thrice more.

Substitute Ali Shan was the hat-trick hero for Pakistan, while Muhammad Dilber and Muhammad Irfan netted a brace each.

Ajaz Ahmad, Muhammad Atiq and Bhutta all found the net once.

With that victory, Pakistan now have six points to their name but are second on the points table due to Malaysia's better goal difference.

Elsewhere, India were even more dominant in their game, crushing Hong Kong 26-0, which, when added to Pakistan's victories, highlights the massive gulf in quality between the competing sides.

Next up for Pakistan will be Kazakhstan; the two teams will clash on Friday.

Asian Games hockey: India demolish Hong Kong 26-0 in record hockey win

JAKARTA: India’s men’s hockey team romped to their biggest ever tournament win at the Asian Games on Wednesday with a 26-0 thrashing of hapless Hong Kong — who didn’t have a single shot on target.

India scored nearly a goal every two minutes as they broke an 86-year-old record, surpassing their 24-1 victory over the United States at the 1932 Olympics.

The eight-time Olympic champions’ dominance was such that with seven minutes to go, they took off their goalkeeper Krishnan Bahadur Pathak as the entire team laid seige to the Hong Kong goal.

India had already overtaken their previous Asian Games record — Monday’s 17-0 hammering of hosts Indonesia — by the end of the third quarter, when they led 18-0.

But the defending champions refused to show any mercy, scoring another eight goals in the final period.

India’s men have won a record eight Olympic golds, but trail on Asian Games golds (three) to their fierce rivals Pakistan (eight).

Beat them both with their racquets. This isn't why Jehanghir and Jansher retired.

We opened Kabaddi for others via PKL and lost the only GOLD in asiad which we always win... :)))

Women's team is playing Iran tomorrow for the GOLD, let's see if they salvage some pride in the sport for us.

We are failure even in Asian Games.....

The same people have been the heads of all sports boards for so long just filling their pockets. I hope IK cleans up the house, although sports would be a fair way down on his list.

womens and mens
recurve individual event
both representatives from Pakistan got eliminated in round of 32

weightlifting men 77 kgs

Ali haider of Pakistan finished 13th in the event

Obviously been lifting more aloo parathay than weights. Are there even 13 other countries competing?

In all honesty can't hate on the competitors, they're making the most of a bad situation in terms of the administrations that run sports in Pakistan. Insha'Allah that changes with PTI coming in

Jakarta, 23 August 2018 – The Ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) at the
2018 Asian Games registered a new application filed by the cyclist Olga Zabelinskaya and the
Uzbekistan Cycling Federation, supported by the NOC of Uzbekistan, against the decision of the
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to deny the participation of Zabelinskaya in the women’s individual
time trial on 24 August 2018.

The NOC of Uzbekistan registered Olga Zabelinskaya in road cycling at the 2018 Asian Games. Earlier
this month, the International Cycling Union (UCI) had accepted the athlete’s request to change her
sports nationality, formerly Russian, and had registered her as Uzbek. However, on 21 August 2018,
the OCA determined that the athlete was not eligible to compete for Uzbekistan in accordance with
the OCA Constitution, which provides that any athlete who has changed his/her nationality shall not
participate in the Asian Games to represent his/her new country until three years after such change.
This matter was submitted to a Panel of arbitrators composed of:

Mr Xianyue (Simon) Bai (China), President
Mr Jahangir Baglari (I.R. Iran), arbitrator
Mr Enrico Ingles (Philippines), arbitrator

The Panel held an urgent hearing with the parties in person and via telephone conference (athlete) in
the afternoon of 23 August 2018, from 16:00 to 17:30 at the office of the CAS ad hoc Division in
Jakarta. The CAS Panel deliberated and issued the operative part of the award on the same day.
The Panel dismissed the application and confirmed the OCA decision not to accept the participation
of Olga Zabelinskaya in the women’s individual time trial. The full award with the grounds will be
published shortly.

So kabaddi players can be turned into bunch of softies after playing in Kabaddi league but when the same is said about some cricketers who play in IPL some of you get offended. Lol. :inti

To be fair from what i heard this Indian team didn't have the same experience as the one who competed in 2014, so its a learning experience, and at the same time we should be happy that a traditional Indian and pakistan game, had brought success to Iran, and Korea now in this case, it will help the game grow.

Good point, nice to see non South Asian teams do so well in Kabaddi. It will get more global coverage and as a result the profile of the sport will be lifted a lot.

Hallelujah! Never thought I would see this day, but you just made your point with a solid argument. Well done. :salute

Punjabi Kabbadi is diff from the ones played in these games, Indian team has Kabbadi players from across not only Punjab.

We got a GOLD in rowing, unexpected and kind of compensates for Kabaddi loss!

India vs Iran Women's kabaddi final is gonna start in few hours time, I hope at least eves salvage some pride for us.

Nothing unexpected. If anything, the rowing results have been disastrous. Dattu Bhokanal was a strong gold contender in singles, did 7 minute times consistently in the season only to choke with a 8:23 time here when there was a gold for taking. Others too were medal contenders, but disappointed yesterday.

I am really looking forward to Neeraj Chopra's Javelin throw. That kid is one of our biggest Gold hopes in the next Olympic.

Hope we can get enough GOLDs to avenge the Kabbadi loss.

We at least got a bronze in Kabbadi - so it wasn't a complete washout.

Not quite happy till now.
Expected more medals in Wrestling and 2 golds in Kabbadi.
When will boxing start ? Do we have any chance there ?

Our conversion is very bad, only 6 gold medals out of 23 total medals. We need more golds or we are facing a very poor ranking.

I'd be happy if this actually translated into anything come the Olympics. We always get loads on medals in the Commonwealth, slightly lower in the Asiad, and in the Olympics? Barely 4 or 5 at best.

JAKARTA: So, this is how a dynasty crumbles. A 28-year-old fiefdom has finally been consigned to the history books as Iran took down India in the semifinals of the men’s kabaddi event on Thursday. In fairness to Iran, this has been a long time coming.

While the ascent of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) certainly played its role in hastening India’s downfall, Iran had placed its tanks on India’s kabaddi mats long before their players started exchanging trade secrets with their Indian counterparts. One will only have to remember what happened in Incheon four years ago when PKL was two months old. Iran were within one half (they were leading 21-13 at the break in the final) of wresting the crown then. They have completed the job four years later.

At a heaving Garuda Theatre — the crowd reacted to tackles and raids like they were watching India versus Pakistan at a cricket World Cup — India lost the plot while Iran composed a haiku with athletes who promised to dance deep and long into the night. The encounter, billed as a final before the final, was lost from an Indian perspective long before the start of the match.

Even as Iran burnt the midnight oil and scouted all Indian players, the Indian camp sauntered into the tournament thinking nothing will change. They were under the impression that 10 of the 11 countries were here to earn the right to lose to them in the final. Coach Rambir Khokhar admitted as much after the match. “We were a bit overconfident. We thought we would beat them this time also.” Needless to say, going in with such hubris was always going to bite them. “It’s a big loss and we will never forget this. Iran were far superior to us.”

So how did Iran crack the code? While having Fazel Atrachali and Hadi Oshtorok playing in the PKL from the very first year proved to be a boon, there was a proper game plan. “We had a certain game plan as we were watching all the footage of India and Pakistan players during our training sessions,” Iran coach Gholamreza Mazandrani said. “We didn’t lose our patience and we waited for our opponents to commit mistakes. It happened as per plan and I think we are worthy winners.”

Sure, Khokhar’s men will walk home with bronze but the repercussions of the defeat will ring in India. The allegations of a ‘cash for selection of players’ scandal will only get louder and that match against a ‘trial team’ selected by a three-member panel as ordered by the Delhi High Court will have more coverage. If the players sent to Jakarta lose that, things could get very ugly for the sport in India. However, the women’s team managed to sidestep the challenge posed by Chinese Taipei to advance to the final.
Their opponents in the summit match on Friday? Iran.

I am really looking forward to Neeraj Chopra's Javelin throw. That kid is one of our biggest Gold hopes in the next Olympic.

Yeah looking forward to him too. Should win the Gold in the Asian games, but will be hard pressed for any medal in the Olympics. The three german throwers are way better than him right now.

How do you guys know so much about these sports, and the intricacies of different players, their past records, etc.?

Do you follow these games outside of these events?

Yes, but age will play a part in the next Olympics. Neeraj will enter next Olympics as a 24 year old while the Germans will be in their 30s. Not many 20 year olds have been as good as Neeraj in sport's history, so he has a lot of room to grow by leaps and bounds.

It isn't really hard to keep track of world class Indian athletes, there simply aren't that many.

Lol lost the women Kabbadi final.
Man look at the Iranian. They are crying, it means a lot to them.

A big message for Indian kabbadi, wake up. Or is it already too late ?
Whats the point of PKL ? When you are going to loose when it matters the most.
Its not cricket, where there are 3-4 teams better or equal to us. Its kabaddi, we invented this game and we are expected to win every damm time.

Relax ... without PKL those players will win GOLD in asiad and then continue to slog in life, now they have a full professional career where they don't do any other job other than playing kabaddi for all 12 months.

I guess it's more or less over confidence from our management which should be rectified within the next WC.

Congrats to Iran, the new power in Kabaddi. Well played Indian girls, I think umpiring had a big say in the final result, wish we can see a video referral system in place in the future.

Pakistan men's field hockey team picks up another victory this time over kazahkstan winning by a score of 16-0

Pakistan open their medal account in Asiad 2018 with a bronze in men's kabaddi, they are currently tied at 28th spot alongside Afghanistan.

KARACHI: Pakistan hockey team beat Kazakhstan 16-0 in their third Pool B match of the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta.

Men in Green, who bagged 10-0 win each against Thailand and Oman in their first two matches, made sure they decimated their opponents from the word go.

Mohammad Toseeq found the net four times, while Mahmood Abu Bakar also scored a hat-trick for Pakistan.

Asian Games hockey: Pakistan thrash Thailand 10-0 in opener

Ali Rizwan, Shan Ali and Muhammad Umar Bhutta scored a brace each to add to the score.

Ali Mubashar, Muhammad Dilber, Muhammad Atiq also scored one goal each for Pakistan.

“We have won all three matches and haven’t conceded any goal but Malaysia is another team which is on a winning streak and they will be tough to face,” skipper Muhammad Rizwan senior told The Express Tribune.

Asian Games hockey: India demolish Hong Kong 26-0 in record hockey win

He added that the team needs to stay composed to beat Malaysia. “Till now we are in full shape, form and in coordination. If we keep playing like this, then we can win the match against Malaysia. They are one of the top teams of the competition, if we beat them then that will increase our chances to win the gold medal,” he said.

Pakistan will next face Malaysia on August 26, before facing Bangladesh on August 28 to complete their Pool B matches.

One more win for the Men in Green will mean they qualify for the semi-finals of the Asian Games hockey event, scheduled to take place on August 30, with the final to be played on September 1.

Idk about Malaysia but we will decimate Bangladesh in hockey.... so a semi is pretty much guaranteed now. Btw how is the Indian hockey team doing, the only result I heard about them is they beat HK 26-0.

So India has 25 medals so far compared to 1 by Pakistan?? :murali

How inferior Pakistan is compared to India in sports????
