Asian Games 2018 : 18th August - 2nd September

India demolish japan 8-0 in hockey 🏒 :)))
Our team seems to be in beastly form so far, Japan are ranked no 15 in world and are no minnows ala Indonesia or Hong Kong

KARACHI: Pakistan kabaddi team managed a bronze medal at the Asian Games, country’s first in the 2018 edition, after they lost their semi-final 27-24 to South Korea.

Both powerhouses in kabaddi Pakistan and India took bronze medals after losing their semi-finals.

India had lost their match to Iran 27-18, while on Friday Iran became the continental champions defeating South Korea 26-16 in the final.

“We are at the medal ceremony,” Pakistan Kabaddi Federation secretary Muhammad Sarwar told The Express Tribune from Jakarta. “We are receiving our first medal at the Games.”

Pakistan began their campaign with a massive 62-17win against Malaysia in Group B, but then lost to Iran 36-20.

They registered two more wins, Indonesia 40-11 and Japan 25-14, and finally outplayed Nepal 38-20 to qualify for the semi-final with eight points in total, just second to Iran’s 10, who topped Group B.

South Korea were the top squad in Group B with eight points while India were second with six.

In the history of Asian Games’ kabaddi event, Pakistan have taken eight medals — two silver and six bronze.

The two silver medals came in 1998 and 2006, while for the last three editions of the Games, Pakistan has consistently finished with a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, India has won seven gold medals but Iran broke their monopoly this year.

it appears thier is two bronze medals, because their isnt a third place match, only final for the kabbadi tournament.

Also looking forward to Boxing hoping Pakistan can have some good results

In womens Boxing 60kg round of 16 Pakistani boxer Parveen Ruksana will take on Indias Pavitra

hockey we should get atleast silver india is heavy favorites to win the gold, depending how things go in boxing maybe some their, maybe in judo, and i believe maybe one in weightlifting....and i think bridge too but again this is if all goes well....im thinking pak will end up with 3 or 4 medals at the end of the games

^^ A few days back I read about Gioga's unconventional methods and a stress on players avoiding meat and staying vegetarian. That probably cost us one of our biggest Gold medal hope!

thanks a lot bro for the updates :)

How far behind have we gone in sports.... Even Cambodia is ahead of us. We are at 28th out of 45 :( That too because of Kabaddi bronze. Just hoping for best in other sports left though

We should be looking at a silver in Hockey but there is absolutely no chance of winning a medal in Boxing or Weightlifting. Il be surprised if our boxers win more than 2-3 Bouts combined, as for Weightlifting Nooh is a very promising lifter but hes still way behind the medal places. As for Judo im certain that Shah Hussain Shah will reach the bronze medal match but not sure if hel be able to win that.

Other than that we should get a medal in Squash team, are close to 1 in Bridge and Usman Chand is currently first in skeet shooting so he might spring a surprise. Saadi abbas in karate has a small chance too but other than that no medal hope.

So we should end up with between 3-6 medals in total.

Shah Hussain Shah !

In anyway related to legendary boxer ?

A surprise medal from Karate but thats what you get with participation as some draws are kind and this was a pretty lucky medal to be honest but a medal is a medal and congrats to Nargis....At the same time a massive choke from the bridge team denied us a guaranteed medal as we missed out on it by 0.2 points having scored 98 something...with 3 rounds to go we were unbeaten and had to play the winless malaysia and 2 others needing just a few points to get the medal...but we lost all three matches with massive deficits and missed the medal.

Men's hockey - India and pak take on Korea and Malaysia respectively today, let's see how many can we score today against better opponents!

Quetta’s Nargis has become the first Pakistani to win a medal in Karate at the Asian Games. She outplayed Nepal’s Rita Karki 3-1 to claim bronze in the +68kg event in Indonesia on Saturday.

Hailing from Quetta’s persecuted Hazara community, the 19-year-old is following in the footsteps of Kulsoom Hazara who won the South Asian Championships earlier.

The female karatekas have been striving hard to make their name in the sport and Nargis’ bronze is the much needed head way. She is also the first Pakistani female to win a karate medal at the Asian Games.
“I had the expectation of winning the medal, my friends and my coaches everyone were expecting this, i gave everything on the floor,” Nargis said in her media statement.

Encouraging other female athletes Nargis added: “I believe that Pakistanis should not make excuses anymore; that is my advice to other female athletes. We always think that being a Pakistani we can’t achieve much, but we can.”

This is Pakistan’s second medal at the Games, earlier Kabaddi took a bronze medal.

Really happy for Nargis.

“Congratulations to Nargis on winning #Bronze at #AsianGames2018 she is from the persecuted Hazara community who continue to churn out athletes in various sports despite living in constant fear in Hazara Town, Quetta.

Now waiting to see how authorities and corporates help her.”

Well done Nargis. With absolutely no support at all and under threat from Murderous scumbags, still she pulls it out of the bag and talks of inspiring Pakistani's. #NayaPakistan

2 silver in equestrian

2 more silver guaranteed in Archery as both men and women have qualified for the finals

2 bronze guaranteed in Badminton as both Saina and Sindhu have qualified for semis

2 more bronze guaranteed in Bridge

Indian hockey team leading 3-0 against S.Korea at the end of 2nd quarter. So almost assured of a semi final spot baring a miracle from Korea.

I don't know what happened to Hoor Asrar Rauf. She was tipped as the next bug thing and has been winning swimming competitions since the age of 6.
Won the best swimmer of the year in 2011 and she wasn't even 16 then.

Last I heard about her was in 2013.

Hoor along with Amir Atlas are 2 biggies who could have got us medals even on world stages like Olympics and world championships.

Was expecting one gold either in mens or womens 400ms, if not for these African imports

Was expecting one gold either in mens or womens 400ms, if not for these African imports
I was expecting in men’s 400m..but as u said African imports won both Golds...10000m men ,L Govindan has a medal chance ..now the finals are going on

Pakistan vs Malaysia to start in few mins, winner will play Korea in semis and the loser shall be put against India.

Yeah now 1000m lost to Africans, in a way it makes the games more competitive, but its not right when Qatar/Bahrain can just buy gold medals. It should have been 3 Golds for India

Congratz to the Indian who won bronze medal he made history so that's always nice to see.

Pakistan lost in volleyball to Korea , lost to Japan in baseball and lost to Indonesia in sepak takraw

Pakistan men's field hockey team beat Malaysia by a score of 4-1 their final group game will be against Bangladesh but with this win I believe Pakistan has secured first place and will take on Korea in the semi finals

Hima Das qualifies for women's 400m finals in Athletics, Bahrain's Salma is heavy favorite to win GOLD but can Hima surprise us all today? Let's see...

India qualified in a different event of Bridge not the one in which Pakistan was leading.

Another close call for Pakistan as Usman Chand qualified for the final of the Skeet event with a score of 122 out of 125 which i believe is a national record and good enough to qualify for the olympics finals. He coudnt perform that good in the final and settled for the 5th place.

Really looking forward to tomorrows events as a lot of relatively big names in Pakistan sports compete tomorrow.

Nooh Dastagir competes in +105 Kg Weightlifting event and while he cant win a medal il be looking at him to break his national record and continue his progress towards hopefully Olympic positions at 21.

Saadi Abbas competes in Karate and as a former Asian champion has the ability to get a medal.

Squash Team event starts and that should give us another medal.

Arshad Nadeem competes in Javelin throw and once again hes not a medal prospect but as a promising youngster should be looking to improve his own national record.

These are a few of the events to look forward to and hopefully they perform when needed.

Pakistan national hockey team maintained their flawless start to the 2018 Asian Games with a 4-1 defeat of Malaysia on Sunday — their fourth straight victory of the tournament being played in Indonesia.

Having thrashed Thailand, Oman and Kazakhstan by a collective scoreline of 36-0 in their first three matches, Pakistan entered the game on an almost unprecedented high.

However, the team also knew that in Malaysia they would face a much tougher side than the previous three that had allowed them to score at will.

The opening goal of the game came in the sixth minute when Muhammad Irfan converted a penalty corner to put his side 1-0 up.

ARTICLE CONTINUES AFTER AD

However, Malaysia's Faiz Helmi Jali did exactly the same four minutes later as Pakistani defence conceded their first goal of the tournament.

Two goals within the first 10 minutes of play had set the tempo for another high-scoring encounter. However, surprisingly, the next goal did not come until the 38th minute of the match.

With both the teams neck and neck and unwilling to given any edge to the opposition, Pakistan Ajaz Ahmad finally succeeded to get the crucial go-ahead strike.

That goal sapped the energy out of the Malaysian backline as Pakistan struck again four minutes later, with Mubashar Ali finding the net this time.

At the end of the third period, Pakistan were 3-1 up and, not for the first time in the tournament, in the driving position.

Two minutes from the full-time whistle, Ajaz scored the game's final goal to give Pakistan a relatively hard-fought, yet still quite comfortable victory.

With another three points earned, Pakistan now have a total of 12 to their name — good enough to go on top of the Pool B points table.

Pakistan will take on Bangladesh on Tuesday in their final group match.

So far, the Pakistani athletes in Indonesia has managed to win two bronze medals. The hockey team represents the national contingent's best hope for a gold.

Bronze for Saina.
Extremely disappointing!

She is on a losing spree against the World #1, so I expected the loss. Btw, I watched Sindhu's match today expecting the Japanese world #2 to be tall, lean and athletic. What I saw was your typical muscular little Thapa from Pokhara! How the hell is she number 2 in the world??!!!

Insane from neeraj he just threw 88 mt in javelin throw, this would have given him a gold in previous olympics :O

Outstanding from Nadeem of Pakistan ...gets himself into bronze medal position. He was unfort Are to miss a medal in commonwealth!

3rd medal coming in for Pak :)

One more silver in Athletics as Dharun Ayyasamy finishes second in 400 m hurdle.
If not for these African imports, we would have been far ahead in the gold tally.

Gold for India and bronze for pakistan in javelin throw

Neeraj ‘s worst throw was 83.2 which would have still given him gold , that’s how good he was to others. China wins silver.

Another silver in women’s high jump to India.

Neeraj is an Olympic prospect. Counting on him to win at least a silver in the next Olympics.

The kid is soo special. Will be throwing 90m distance quite consistently in a couple of years! Scary prospect!

To me, all the Gold medals lost to African athletes don't count at all. Many of our men and women have proven to be the best in Asia despite such limited facilities and a corrupt system. Mad respect to these guys and girls!

Congratz to Arshad Nadeem on picking up bronze medal . Pakistan men's sqaush team won their last encounter of the day Agaisnt Nepal . How ever the women's sqaush team lost to South Korea

I think our Athletics contingent has been improving a lot in recent years...they have been up there with China as the best unit in athletics in this game so far if we discount the imported Africans by Qatar, Bahrain. I hate it when countries like Bahrain, Qatar poach athletes from African countries just some 2-4 years ago. It's not like they were trained in these Gulf countries...they were born and brought up in Africa and even trained in Africa. We have been denied so many golds in Athletics this time due to Qatar, Bahrain and most of them who won gold were imported Africans.

The thing I don’t understand is- We have been doing pretty good in Commonwealth Games from last few editions and remain in top 3-4 . But struggle massively in Asian games. Why is that?

Is the competition level tougher in Asian Games compared to CG? Or participants don’t take CG seriously?
