3 guys who are totally a waste of 3 different spots. My theory is that lets waste one spot by picking Umar Akmal to keep and bat at number 7, and lets find two guys who should bat ahead of them.

Firstly I recon Iftikhar and Imad need to be promoted ahead of these three blokes, as they are much more reliable and have so far proven to be consistent. Rizwan is a nice hard working person but he seems out of his depth. Asif has been a total flop. Umar is Umar, he is better than these two whether you like it or not, but that doesnt mean he isnt a wasteman.

A wasteman in cricketing terms is someone who is wasting a valuable spot for a decent batsman or decent bowler to actually make a contribution. Fakhar Zaman has also been a waste of late.
 
Preferably none!!!
But Umar Akmal can be a wicket keeper and play one of those rare good innings
 
Give Mohammad Rizwan a few chances first, blimey.
 
Need Sharjeel and Kamran Akmal back if I'm being honest. And I hope Khushdil also performs and cement his place.
 
Let us wait for the last T20I. If Rizwan fails, then I would rather give Bismillah or Rohail a go, but in the T20I format. In the ODI format, Rizwan is a different player altogether.

Wasteman is a derogatory term that originated in south west london around 2005. It was to identify a person that really was hopeless.
 
Umar Akmal is the best WK/bat option in T20 and probably in ODI cricket as well until Rohail is ready. He isnt great and generally lacks the intelligence to read a game but Rizwan from what i have seen looks late on the ball and Asif is just terrible and should stick to franchise cricket. I would Haris to the poor T20 players, adds nothing to batting lineup.

There is no better option than Rizwan for the 50 overs cricket. Umar Akmal is finished. He is the PPPP/PMLN of cricket, so stop supporting him.
 
the problem with rizwan is that he has no aggressive shots and make him very useless in the last 15 overs of an odi game , same is the issue with babar azam. Pakistan hasnt yet made him open in odis which defies sense. If rizwan doesnt play in top 4 then he is useless for the odi team.

Umar Akmal is one of our best T20 batsmen.

It's super tragic that he was dropped after just 1-2 T20s, in a comeback situation!!

He can even keep. He's ten times the batsman Rizwan and Sarfraz can even dream of becoming, especially in the limited overs format.

We badly need him for Wt20, which will have pacy wickets and only Umar can handle the pacers among Rizwan / Sarfraz. The other two are duds.

Yep.

Rizwan is terrible. I'm afraid he's turning out to be worse than Sarfraz. Sarf used to sweep pace bowlers for sixes in his prime. Could at least time.

Rizwan is Fawad Alam v2.

Such as shame that rizwan has got the same amount of centuries umar akmal got in his ODI career and that too against Australia while misbah didn't even get one his his whole career while playing at a test strike rate. Rizwan is not a t20 player but he still not scoring ducks like umer akmal.

Okay. You'll see what I mean as he plays more matches. Of course, I want him to do well, but he just doesn't have the technique, range of shots and reflexes.

Ever seen him bat and how he's unable to time anything?

A lot of you guys are missing the point of the thread

Umar Akmal is a 3 in 1 wasteman. He keeps, he can hit big if gets going, he fails most of the time.

That’s one waste of space instead of having Rizwan and Asif both in the team, Umar can’t be the 3rd wasteman in this scenario

I watch every Pakistan game and do my best to watch any line domestic match. I know what he struggles with it still doesn't change the fact that with all these flaws he's got same amount of centuries them 2 clowns had, i wonder how dreadful were they? That too he's played around 200 odis less then them.

Rizwan is a better keeper. Rizwan should just bat at 9 or 10 till we find a replacement in t20is. Umar's keeping is terrible.

Misbah is making a mistake by trying to unnecessarily stuff Rizwan in the middle order, same as he did with Sarfaraz.

Sarfaraz was fine for T20Is as a specialist captain, and batting at #7 or 8 considering his form. Misbah wanted him to lead from the front but he couldn't so he dumped him. Now he's trying to fit Rizwan as a mainstay of the middle-order when we have better options.

You don't need to be so rigid with a T20I batting lineup.

Yep, exactly what many don't get. He can bat at 9 or 10 in t20is as there are better hitters. There isn't a better keeper there. People must have forgotten how bad Kami and Umar Akmal were at keeping. UA fans will be UA fans though, just won't change.

Surfaraz is much better than Rizwan any time, even in worst form surfaraz use to score run a ball for 20 and 30's ..... hate and abusive remarks have not helped saifi either.
Coming back to other options, Umer Akmal is the best option to keep and play at number 4 or 5. Some new players should be inducted such as Zeeshan Ashraf or Ahsan Ali at #3 then Ifti, Umer Akmal and Kushdil Shaw. rest of them follow as it is ok except Wahab. Asif Ali is given too many chances, discard him. Remove Sohail and fakhar.
 
Give confidence to ifti and persue him, he is a useful player needs to be continued. i know there are some haters. Abusive comments will ruin the confidence of players.
 
Rizwan is a keeper, so not quite as useless as the other two.

I'd go with Khusdil Shah for that spot, or even Anwar Ali if you're just looking for a slogger. Otherwise I'll just play with 10 players - the team wouldn't be any worse off, but at least you'll cut some cost

I am not fan of his but at this point he is the better option, although Rizwan needs to be given a run as deserves the chance to swim or sink.

yes,, really shameless ... forget how our T20 and ODI team was destroyed and hit rock bottom...

really shameless to forget how our success was based on solely spin twins and 2 good batsmen without any work on backups

really shameless how consistent failures were tried and tried and tried

and really shamesless for people who support them
 
sure umar Akmal is better than these three we somehow should bring sharjeel back as soon as possible

with sharjeel inclusion and umar batting at 5 or 6 we will have a very strong batting line up

I thought Misbah would be sensible enough to realise that nothing can be done for Umar Akmal besides the hope that he may learn or regain some confidence of his initial burst into cricket. The best way to have done this was to make him a selection that would still be beneficial to Pak cricket. Umar v Sarfaraz as a keeper, Sarfaraz is maybe slightly better. Umar v Sarfaraz as a T20 batsman, hands down Umar wins this battle.

Rizwan certainly comes across a stuffing down our throat selection, appeasing fans as well.

Telling me Rizwan is a world class keeper bat is like telling me Tiagi is a 150kmh bowler

Yet to be convinced what the hype is about. Yeah he had a decent Test series in Australia and England, but this is about ODI cricket. What did he do today for this thread to be bumped?
 
I will stil back rizwan but he needs to open or bat at 5 thiers no other position for him

There should be a quota system for TTFs - only allow one to be selected in the XI and three in the squad to provide cover.

It happens, not all of them can fire all cylinders at once plus you gotta understand that these guys are human too and get unnecessarily scrutinized. Some Ppl are just watching IPL and are comparing that filth with international cricket . Kohli whom I respect alot is struggling and struggling big time , he doesn't look the same at all nor he looks interested when it comes to batting focus ..all that bravado after getting a wicket us just chasing that energy he had ..still it doesn't make him a bad batter although he should've hit that form by now after god knows playing gazillion games .....anyways Boyz are still good and have the ability to find that mojo back quickly ...we just gotta change the boing coach ...this panda has done jack so far ...glasses aisay pehen Kar ghoomta Hai jaisay coaching mein PhD kii huii Hai ..eik number ka duffer coach Hai.

At the risk of being repetitive I think we as Pak fans are too early to hype players as well as putting someone to complete dust.

Rizwan is the best keeper batsman we have at the moment and his domestic stats and performances prove that. Yes we can argue whether we need similar kind of players in the top 5 and at which number Rizwan should play but, this is just one ODI after months.

Rizwan knows his power game isnt great currently and said during the National T20 cup that he is working on it.

Which other options do we have? Zeeshan Ashraf is one with a decent power game but, is his keeping good enough for ODIs? While Rohail’s power game is nothing to rave about as well currently, he needs to show performances and play more in domestics.

So who is the option? I dont think so there is any other. As always I am open to be convinced otherwise, after all that is the point of having such discussions.

I like Rizwan because he has the potential to fit in the team as the wicket keeper batsmen at No. 4. Today he played a very poor innings but it was not selfish. Selfish innings are one in which you score a 50 at lower strike rate to stay in a team. In simple words his innings today was like anybody having a bad day in his job. For all those people who make judgements on one match imagine if you are having a bad day and your boss says that I think you are not good enough. Just like in other jobs, everybody deserves time to prove their utility in the team. Bashing Misbah's selection is justified, bashing selfish innings is justified but do not criticize players too early after few games. Players are selfish due to insecurities and Pakistani fans create them for the players too. Let's judge all new players in Odi team after 10 games especially Haider, Abdullah, Khushdil, Rizwan and Haris Rauf. Personally, we should support Babar, Shaheen and Shadab even on off days because they are match winners. Lastly, I believe Haris Sohail would not last the next World Cup with his current knees so it would be quite sad that we might have to sacrifice him from the Odi team at some point.

Not a big Fakhar fan but he should be in the team because we don't have many players of his profiles in the opening position. Rizwan and Haris deserve to play so 1 has to bat at 5.

Rizwan is one of the most important player in PCT, only for his keeping. Even in T20, don’t think PAK has a much better option now; only if Umar could keep his fitness and attitude, could have been an asset in T20 as WK; otherwise Rizwan is best among available options. At times Sarfraz was better option for T20 for his batting, but not sure now.

I’m not going to be gassed by Rizwan’s 2 tons against c team Australia in UAE last year to think this man is the best player we have after Babar. No sir. I get people love him and want him to do well, but he is no different to me and isn’t on the level of some of our better cricketers.

Boy, there are some real dummies here. 2 failures and all the overreactions are there. This can happen to any player. Rizwan is quality and just needs to be given more chances in ODI to show his ability. The guy hit 2 tons vs Australia for God's sake. He should keep playing.
 
Me personally I would stick with Mohammad Rizwan personally. I know he's not been great with the bat this series. But he's still our best WKB and personally would stick with him, but maybe at No.4.
 
Rizwan needs to be given a few more series in ODIs otherwise Rohail Nazir would be the only option left.

How does he average 49 at 90 in LA cricket.

Hoping he sorts it out quickly.
 
Played a poor shot today but i admire him having the confidence to go for it even despite not being at the crease for long.

He'll learn and grow. His quality will be visible at the LOI level soon too.
 
I personally believe that it is a minnow mentality if you judge your player's performance against really weak teams. And Pakistani fans have started to act like that sadly. The point is that against Zimbabwe we should win comfortably but should not give any value to individual performances except debuts and mentality of the players. Players are judged when they play the top teams and obviously Rizwan will also be judged then.
The issue is if players perform against weak teams they can be weak team bullies or actually good players. And those who do not perform they can be either bad or overconfident/complacent. For example Iftikhar got 5 wickets but they have no value because against big teams his bowling won't work. Imam and Abid are competing for one spot and against good teams you need an aggressive opener like Fakhar. We need to get out of our minnow mentality. These Odis have no value except seeing potential of youngsters.

Even if we dont like it rizwan will be first choice wicket keeper Bateman I dont rate him in t20s and in odis am 50/50 but he needs to be given a few series and need to be backed
 
Rizwan needs to be given a couple of series before we judge him I would prefer he bats at 4 where he can get set and then up the tempo.the shot he got out to if that's his shot he should play it even if he did get out in that manner today.

3 matches against Zimbabwe at home, 70 odd deliveries for 20 runs....and he is supposed to be our world class batsman after Babar?

You know damn well if this was Sarfraz ppl would be calling for his head and ridiculing him like no other. Ofcourse those same people are silent when Rizwan is underperforming. Those so called fans need to wake up and see Rizwan is not a LO batsman. They will refer to his 2 centuries against Australia last year (both in a losing cause) to diminish his failures against Zimbabwe at home. Fact is Pakistan has a problem they don't have a LO keeper right now.

Long gone are the days of specialist keepers in LO cricket. You need to be able to bat as well. Rizwan can't even rotate the strike in LO cricket. If the Zimbabwe batsman can bat on these pitches, why can't Rizwan????

Rizwan batted well in Australia if I remember correctly. This guy can bat. He probably just had a bad game.

The series you are referring to was in UAE and not in Australia. In those matches Starc didnt bowl and the one match Cummins did bowl he got Rizwan out for a duck.

His scores this series:

14 (29)

1 (5)

10 (26)
 
He is was showing some batting skills in England and was even in contention for test batting. now in this series against second string Zimbabwe looks like a tailender.

Sarfraz says ar3 not numbered. With Misbah in charge and his love for seniors , Sarfraz will b3 brimming for his next chance

No one is calling to remove him from the test team, but for LO he is beyond pathetic. There is no excuse for this embarassing performance from him in this series. He is playing at home against a weak opposition, and looks like he is batting on a Day 5 test wicket.

Rizwan is the true definition of wasteman in LO cricket. I hope PCB has a backup plan for keeper in LO cricket.
