Both Overtons playing would have helped here.

Wow t20 leagues produing test productsI remember when an unknown David Malan was picked in the PSL an Indian claimed that in PSL any white guy on the street is picked just to show foreigner participation.
That same white guy now scored a gutsy hundred in the Ashes.
Slap on the face of Indian keyboard warriors.
And then posters say Smith isn't ruthless like Kohli!
M Ali been utter useless for England down under failing with both bat and ball. Another reason why bits and pieces player is never good for test matches. His part time offie will never trouble batsmen in Australia. England should really try out Mason Crane.
Smith showing Root how it is done on a flat pitch.
It isn’t flat, it's pacey with a bit of bounce.
So only subcontinent pitches where lack of pace and bounce , which is difficult to score , are flat ?
Perth is flat and has been for some time now. True pace and bounce accentuates the stroke play.
I wouldn't call this particular wicket flat but its one which rewards batsmen a lot while still providing the bowlers with something.
Last few years before this has been a disgrace though.

Did you forget the first time it happened 3yrs back at the same ground? India beat Aus in Adelaide, Aus had an even better lineup than the one England faced off against.
The most critical session of this Test, probably this Ashes as well, and no post so far!!!!! People are tired after enjoying high voltage cricket in UAE .................
There's no need to comment. Smith is dominating these helpless trundlers. We'd just be repeating the same thing.
I think,ENG has to close Aussies under 450 for any chance; but Aussies might cross 550 here.
Any chance of a draw?
You know the pitch is super flat when Mitch Marsh stars scoring runs.
Surprised ..... no one is calling Smith a FTB !!!!

ENG shouldn't lose the review - it's umpires fault that he didn't call the NO, at first.
Simple solution, keep your foot behind the line.
Smith averages 57 in away matches so pretty hard to criticise him.
2nd ball is 29 overs old and ENG bowlers are drained, we might see AUS scoring over 600 here, even close to 700.
Ideally, I think if possible AUS would like to bat till 30 minutes before lunch tomorrow, that's about 60 more overs; at 3.6+, that takes AUS to around 625+.
How toothless is the English attack outside England? Its pathetic really.
England has been hurt again and again by the lack of specialist spinner.....

Lack of 140k+ bowlers is hurting them.
Bowling at 130k will be enough to get wickets in England. But in Aus, you need solid pacers who can hit 140k+ and bang it into the pitch to extract something out of the pitch.
Starc and Cummins were bowling close to 145k all thorough the day and even Hazlewood upped his pace to over 140 most of the times.
Broad/Anderson/Woakes are all bowling at Stuart Binny pace.
English cricketers are paid millions of pound for mediocrity year in and year out. Really sad.
Their economy & currency is stronger, in a cricket world dominated by 3rd world countries. Otherwise, compared to other sports, English cricketers are least paid. Not to mention footballers, golfers or tennis players; even top snooker players earn over a mn BP annually. Top Boxers, Rugby players, athletes also earn higher.
Andesron probably earns less than 2mn/year from all sources - in same city, Rooney was paid base wage of BP 350K/week.
I wouldn't pay to watch him, he's ugly but effective.Smith reminds me of those Cyborg movies - unfancy, but ruthlessly effective and efficient.
Sportsmen in general are grossly overpaid in my opinion. If people cared about global issues as much as they do their favourite teams losing, it would be a better place.
I wouldn't pay to watch him, he's ugly but effective.
I hope Kohli surpasses him because I want the best of this generation and GOAT contender to be someone who is easy on the eye. Smith bats like he's holding a shovel and digging balls out.
