If India didn't perform well enough to make significant strides in this game, the unbeaten 45-run stand has certainly dragged England further. Kuldeep Yadav has appeared more assured than many of the England batters throughout the entire series. Initially blocking his way, Bumrah managed to nudge around to score some runs too.

Rohit and Gill set the first session on fire with positive cricket, both completing their hundreds. Devdutt Padikkal, on debut, never looked out of place as he notched up a fifty, but the habit of hanging back to not-so-short balls eventually got him. Sarfaraz got set and then unleashed in typical fashion. England made a comeback with 4 wickets for 25 runs, but Kuldeep and Bumrah frustrated them to stretch India's lead past 250.

Stokes bowled a dream ball to Rohit when he bowled for the first time in international cricket since last year's Ashes Test at Lord's. Anderson got one close to 700. Bashir was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, and Hartley joined the party late.

England need one wicket for Bashir and one for Anderson to end their series on a happy note. :srt

"You see all the wickets, but what wasn't on that stat board would be his average coming down which would be an indication of him getting better and better.

Wicket looks flat. 3 days to go. i think lot of guys are too over confident of innings defeat, it is not that easy.

Apparently that is the 7th time Ashwin has got Duckett’s wicket. Classic situation of the psychological hold. Duckett didn’t trust his defence, he was out of ideas and out of shots against Ashwin, so in his mind the only remaining option was to come down the pitch and attack. Far too easy a dismissal to give away. Duckett is building a reasonable record in international cricket but he needs to work on his defensive technique.

From Crawley's comments last year, he said he wasn't going to work on his defensive game. Don't think Duckett will work on it either.

Ashwin, playing in his 100th Test, has now accounted for both of England's openers as Crawley is gone as well.

He top-scored for the tourists in the first innings, but the right-hander is back in the hutch without getting off the mark this time.
 
It was starting to turn last night so no surprise to see Ashwin ripping it here.

Easy for them to think they’ve got it all figured out when they were winning. This is the first time they have had 3-4 losses on the bounce since Baz came in, so they’ll have to do something.

Bazball bubble is burst. Hope the Indians slam them on what is going to be their final day of the tour so that next time they come up well prepared as fans are invested here and don't feel wasted due to poor show from opposition.
 
Trying to hit all balls without having any defensive game. Needs to learn how to defend as well. Two Indian tail batted 20-25 overs with good defense.

English cricket is not in very good shape currently.

No Test series wins since Pakistan 2022.

No T20 series win since the last World T20.

No major ODI series win since 2021 and a horror 2023 World Cup

Some tough decisions coming up.
 
This series has been so similar to that 2018 series in England only with the roles being reversed.

India in 2018 won 1 Test out of the first 4 , losing one by an innings and competing very well in the other two similar to what England did this series. They too were just half hour of determined cricket away from making it 2-2 in Southampton before succumbing to the pressure. England did exactly the same in Ranchi against the partnership of Gill and Jurel.

@DeadlyVenom was right, some opposition fandom have really taken England’s approach personally.

I can’t see a huge amount of change coming in just yet. If however this home summer goes pear shaped, which it is not expected to given the visiting opposition, that could alter things.
