Centuries by Rohit Sharma (103) and Shubman Gill (110) take India to 473/8 at Stumps on Day 2 of the 5th Test, lead England by 255 runs

This footwork won't take Padikkal anywhere in test cricket. Hope he improves it.

Third boundary off the over by Paddy. Anderson feeling the heat

Padikkal has raced into the 30s here in Dharamsala, with seven fours in 32 balls.

looking Sarfaraz bat here on this docile deck , wonder how he will fare overseas against big tall pacers ! 313/3 in 70 - should look to get 50 before new ball .

Wood with his pace can trouble these youngsta beauties. Stokes should try him.

Sarfaraz is scating on thin ice. He had a forgettable last test. Once senior players come in, he may not get a chance in near future so he should take this chance with both hands.

The partnership is worth 34 from 47 balls between two men who would probably not have been playing in this series had Kohli and Rahul been available. The depth in Indian cricket is obscene!

Sarf looked more condifent in his first test than he does now.

Sarfaraz looking nervous...make or break innings for him. If he doesn't score here, his test career will be over with big guns returning whenever the next series is. Considering he has no chance in white ball cricket, test cricket is only format where he can realistically play for India and that is at stake on this very innings.

Just tuned in, terrific bowling by stokes to get Hitman and good one by jim to get gill but was also fun to see the pepper going up entitled grumpy jim's nose...legend that he is no mistaking that.
no v impressed with namma paiyaan Devdutt's footwork, but still a young guy, looks to have the strokes - can only improve from here. Will get limited chances till the time KL, shreyas and vk are around, hope he gets a big one here.
Awesome drone shots of the ground, this has to be amongst the top five international scenic venues - i can think of cape town with the table mountain, Queenstown with the jets takiing off and landing in the background, Galle with that fantastic fort in the background...

Wood doesn't have the skills, or high bowling IQ. Pace alone won't cut it, horrible test for him.

Shastri, placed in the commentary box, didn't hesitate to give his verdict on the state of England's performance in Dharamsala.

"To beat India in India, England need the entire bowling attack of India's. They need a Yashasvi Jaiswal, a Rohit Sharma, and a couple of others," said the former India head coach.

"So basically they need to outsource resources," Sanjay Manjrekar, accompanying Shastri in the commentary box, doubled down.

Shastri agreed with Manjrekar's suggestion, highlighting England haven't won a single series in India since the 2012 tour.

"Absolutely. And it's not new. It's been for a long time. 2012 was the last time England won a series in India and since then, they haven't even been able to tickle India, let alone win a series," he added.

It is still poor...did you see his dismissal today and the gap between bat & pad?

It's not as bad as it was until sometime back. Yeah the dismissal was bad but the expectation is not that he plays with perfect technique all the time.

Both youngsters batting freely now, after nervous starts.
Both essential playing to stay in the side, they know failure here and they are getting dropped. Such is luxury of batting options India has

obscene BG  . New ball due , 40 overs left for the day , 139 ahead .Hope ENG bat 1st thing tomorrow so that Sunday is free for everyone .

370/3 & ENG lost 7 for 43 on this deck . KD was brilliant is besides the point .

No need to declare untill tea tomorrow . Play three more sessions, add another 350 more runs and give England 500+ target

Its only day 2, India should look to bat till late on day 3, get 900 or even 1000 runs and humilate England.
Rohit should declare overnight . IND would be 250 ahead by then , should be fun watching Stokes & ENG being brave & fearless & imploding in 80 overs on day 3 .

Bat till tomorrow evening and physically drain the English, mentally they have already checked out.

Whats with all these declaring nonsense?

It's day 2, 3 days left! The team has had a decent break between tests. Make England bowl india out, if I was Rohit I'd making England earn all 10 wickets.

Then when England are 700-800 runs behind they will fold like a pack of cards.

am surprised root only one over, is he injured or something?
Am impressed with Deva, dude shows he has patience...we all know he has the big shots and have seen the same in IPl, but if he plays in the same way, he could be playing a role like Che pu or Rahul dravid did not so long back....

241/2 in 54 overs today - good going - get 140-160 in remaining 36 & lead would be 300+ . Enough imo . Let then leave Sunday morning , been a long tour for the personal Chef they got :)

Worried about fast bowling options. Shami's surgery looks major and he is quite old. Siraj isn't that good. Want to see Akashdeep develop, Bumrah is the only world class option we have now.

England has been terrible with over rates this whole series, and also in the WTC cycle. Accumulated lots of penalty points for that, Stokes must wisen up.

One thing i agree with Stokes & Co is their utter disregard to the farce called WTC. Already 19 points docked and still taking their sweet time.

shush , are you not entertained :)
Hope Jimmy gets 1 more to reach 700 & retire after a Home Test , I like Wood but he is 34 & today has conceded 83 in 13 . Wonder what the future pace pool of ENG is going to be like ? any thoughts @James ?

India leading the 2nd session as well. 2 wickets lost but still, they now lead by 158 runs.

yes, true. We have no young quicks on the horizon. at one point i thought shivam mavi , umraan , avesh would be playing tests soon....don't know if the lure of IPL is setting them back or they are not hungry enough.
I thought the same about Devdutt Padikkal after that wonderful 2021 ipl season but i am liking his patience shown so far, his hunger for runs and hope the same rubs off on some young pace guys.
Whatever happened to guys like kuldeep sen, kartik tyagi, Rajvardhan hangargekar et all...
Frankly the pace bowling cupboard looks bare and it does not look like BCCI , management are aware of it or taking any steps.
And if we do not take steps at the oppurtune moments - i forsee jassi, siraj to be bowled into the ground moving forward.

We have a tough tour of Aus coming up, 6 tests - and if we are to match cummins, hazle, starc and co -we better have altleast 3 young pace options other than jassi, bhai siraj and shami

Sarfaraz provides catching practice to Root.

1st ball after each session is not doing any good for Indian team atm.

WICKET! Sarfaraz c Root b Bashir 56 - India 376-4

To be in Indian test team for a long time, Sarfaraz needs more than these pretty 50s.

This is where Team management are not pro active enough.
you have a flat pitch, you have one LH guy at the crease already. This would have been ideal for Dhruv jurel to come and express himself but team management chooses to send Ravjadz who is also LH bat and has nothing to prove. A good knock would have done wonders to Dhruv jurel's confidence.

Sometime, we are not dynamic enough.

Criminal to lose wickets to nothing balls at start or end of session. We have had too many of these lapses this series, especially by the youngsters.

Remember, we led by 192 runs on the basis of first innings in the first test too! And how did that test end up for us?

Bashir after getting hit for hundreds of runs makes idiotic expression ( Krunal Pandya alike) for picking a wicket. Good to see DDP giving him a bashing down the ground.

Wow....what a shot to get to 50!....straight as an arrow....
Good innings by namma paiyaaan Devdutt - am so happy personally as his fam is from my dad's ancestral village in Palghat - kerala....not that i have any contribution to his success....:)
but good patience shown....keep going young lad....cheers ! :ds

Yashasvi, Devdutt, Sarfaraz, Jurel....

I think the future of Indian batting is in very safe hands.

2 hours (including the extra 30 minutes) left to bowl 29 overs, England will probably get those in.

India’s top 5 batters registering 50-plus scores in a Test innings:

vs Australia, Kolkata, 1998
vs New Zealand, Mohali, 1999
vs Sri Lanka, Mumbai (Brabourne), 2009
vs England, Dharamsala, 2024

Remember, we led by 192 runs on the basis of first innings in the first test too! And how did that test end up for us?

Won’t happen twice. That was when the series was level, with an England team that was full of energy and belief, and Pope had played a career best knock. Whereas now it is the back end of the tour and England have been handsomely defeated. They’ll lose by an innings and have a long contemplative sleep on the plane home.

Bashir strikes as he cleans the Padikkal threat.

WICKET! Bashir b Padikkal 65 - India 403-5

Bashir is a tough cookie, got a couple of serious tonkings but keeps coming back with wickets. He has something.

Think England is mentally deflated at this point, predict them to fold cheaply in their next innings.
If there ever was a ground, conditions, temperature, pitch et all completely suited to Eng, it would have been Dharmshala.
They won the toss and should got a big one, they were bowling on 1st day and 2nd day when conditions should suit....if they have bottled this which is what it looks so far, its pathetic.
on another front - when we get runs, its a flat wicket, when our spinners demolish them - its a dustbowl, when our pacemen get among'st them, it s uneven bounce/too much seam/swing etc....
We did'nt complain on the SAF tour when we lost one and won the other in 2 days....
and even as i type, beautiful delivery by Bashir, Devdutt goes...good innings young man...

Jadeja is sometimes very annoying batsman. He think to much about it rather than make it simple
